The Start of Forever

Rate this book
Can Brynn and Micah live happily ever after, or will they allow outside forces to tear them apart?

Brynn Martin’s love life has worked itself out since finding out she was married to Micah Legon, but the rest of her life could use some help. She’s still tracking down why her sister, Liz, was experimenting on and killing aliens and finds herself in an unfortunate situation with Helen, Micah’s sister, not to mention a crumbling relationship with her mother. Her assistant, Laura’s, strange behavior coupled with Brynn’s need to keep Micah safe only add to her rapidly expanding list of concerns. She would love nothing more than to just plan her and Micah’s future together, but life has a way of throwing plenty of roadblocks in her path, and she’s at her wit’s end on how to dodge them all.

Micah Legon has the loving wife and family she always wanted. Though she could do without the constant chaos that has clouded their lives lately. From Helen’s new hire at the clinic to superhero GraySteel’s crush to Brynn and Helen’s constant bickering and disappearance, it’s all Micah can do to keep it together. Not to mention, their cleanup business takes up a huge chunk of her time. Throw in a strange woman following them, and the all-encompassing urge to throw in the towel at any given moment becomes overwhelming. All she really wants to focus on are choosing a caterer for their wedding, tasting the best cakes in Morgantown, and making sure her dress fits, so she and Brynn can start on their forever.

Join Brynn, Micah, and their friends and family as they navigate crises, confusion, and catastrophes in this sequel to First Comes Marriage.

WHAT I LIKED:
I loved how protective and affectionate Brynn is in this sequel compared to the first book. She’s always on Micah’s side and defends her even when Micah doesn’t need it.

I absolutely loved how some of the female alien species in this world were able to have biological children with one another. Without giving spoilers, I loved what happened between a side couple and wished I could have a novella focusing on them because they were always all over each other.

Again, without giving any spoilers, I loved how one couple chose to be the cool rich aunties instead of have kids of their own.

I loved how disgusted Brynn was towards a side couple, despite she herself having her hands all over Micah. This is the kind of established couple dynamic I want to read more of in sapphic fiction, just women wanting more of their women.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
Almost like Book 1, there were two major conflicts that weren’t really resolved. I think if the idea of “accepting that you won’t always get the answers you want” was a theme that was set up earlier in the story, I would have accepted these unresolved conflicts more easily. However, this idea was introduced near the end kind of out of nowhere, so I felt it was an excuse to just not have an answer to a lot of questions that were brought up.

SPICE:
None on page. It was all implied, and while I support every sapphic author whether they want to write spice in their stories or not (because they can write whatever the heck they want), I was devastated that there wasn’t any actual on-page spice scenes, because the set up before it fade to black was so damn good.

Like, damnit, I would have loved to read Micah putting Brynn in her place in bed, because Brynn—Miss Always In Control and Never Let Anyone Step Over Her—enjoys having Micah step on her. It was great to know Brynn would let her wife take charge during these intimate moments, but I’ll just have to imagine it in detail.
