Eudoxia is a washed-up seamstress, daughter of a whore, and so broke she’s desperate for another ale to dull her pain. One more drink, one more mistake. That’s all it takes for Eudoxia to stumble upon two women killing a man and drinking what spills from him. She tries to forget. But they don’t forget her. Especially Anna, who is searching for someone to stitch into their immortal family.
Anna and Xenia slip into her life like a fever, beautiful and relentless, offering a taste of belonging. They thread themselves through her nights—two strangers who taste of sin and salvation. What begins as fascination spirals into need. Eudoxia becomes their breath, their pulse, their bridge to the living world. Until she finally surrenders to the allure of darkness.

Sophia-Rose Johnson, who has already written under the pen name S. Johnson, is from Minnesota, USA, and she is a northerner by heart and accent. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 2018 with a writing degree, and she argues about commas constantly. While she first published in 2022, she’s been writing since 2011. She is a queer woman.
Oh my... It was just so sad. My heart goes out to Eudoxia. Her life is hard barely making enough to survive and she is always thinking of suicide.
Anna pulls her into their lives (with Xenia) and they live as a triad, with of course, the usual unbridled bedroom horseplaying.
Hard though Eudoxia's life was, there was happiness, love, romance and a wedding. The three of them make for a very adorable triad which somehow conflicts with the dark themes of the story.
I cannot say more because it will be a spoiler so read this book if you want to know what really happens. It's just sad.
If you like dark romance, you should be fine with the usual triggers but reading discretion is advised because there is also a brief description of period sex.
Overall I liked the story and if you enjoyed the first two books you'll like this one.
Thank you for the free ARC and I leave here my voluntary review.
This is the third book in the series. This one was my favorite so far. You could feel all the emotion that Eudoxia went through. Eudoxia's life started rough but then she found purpose and joy with Anna & Xenia. Although the ending is sad it is very well written and if you loved the first two books in the series you will love this one as well.
Lastly, thank you to the author for choosing me to be one of your ARC readers.
There aren’t many books that leave me with my mouth hanging open at the end……
THIS ONE BLOODY WELL DID!!
I sat there for a good few min’s processing what just happened….
Book three see’s us a few 100 years on from the marriage of Xenia and Anna They’ve travelled and lived many lifetimes…
And now Anna wishes to extend their family & Xenia will give her anything she wants whilst keeping them both safe
Eudoxia lives a life of cold, hunger, dirt and working her fingers to the bones.
As a low-level seamstress, daughter of a whore and determined not to go back to working in the brothels, she often fantasies about just ending it all in the coldness of the canal
Trying to warm herself with as much ale as she can afford, she spots two beautiful women watching her…
After staggering home, she witnesses them feeding on a man… Who totally deserved it lol
Giving her the gift of working for them, a warm bed and plenty of food in her belly, Eudoxia slowly starts to fall for the two very different women.
Anna, bubbly, dressed beautifully, full of warmth
Xenia, Stone faced and Stoick, protective and subtly dressed
But both full of Longing and Lust
When Anna decides Eudoxia is the one they’ve been looking for, Eudoxia doesn’t find it hard to make the choice of becoming the next wife to the Queen!
The writing is yet again spot on. The atmosphere of the story doesn’t lose its gritty dark gothic feel. The spice scenes feel even more intense and maybe because there’s 3 of them now?!
It’s a win from me loll These are bingé-worthy books!
I already pre-ordered book 4 and I’ve ordered the paperbacks of books 1-3….
Eudoxia’s at the end of her rope — broke, lost, and haunted by thoughts of ending it all. But just when she’s ready to give up, Anna and Xenia step in… saving her again and again. She’s terrified, yet something about their world pulls her in. The question is — will she take the leap? Sophia-Rose completely pulled me into this story. Her writing is immersive and vivid — I felt like a fly on the wall through every scene. This can easily be read as a standalone, and it’s so worth it!
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Thread She Unraveled" by Sophia-Rose Johnson. I had read the previous two novellas just before starting this one and I was very eager to see what came next, though it could easily be enjoyed as a stand alone story too. I had a great sense of the world the story was set in. The author does a wonderful job of describing the setting and painting a vivid picture of where this novella takes place. I could visualise the cold and it's parallel with Eudoxia's despair and situation was fitting. I felt like the characters from the previous novellas developed more depth and complexity, and I found myself more invested in their reactions and relationship, often drawing from their experiences in the previous novellas to come to conclusions about some of their behaviour and unspoken motivations. I truly under-estimated Xenia's role in this one and I felt like she really shone in the second half of the story, though in retrospect she was always a pivotal character in her own less obvious way from the beginning of this novella. I feel like there is so much more to explore with her and can't wait to see where the next novella takes us! The intimate scenes are beautifully crafted and true to the characters. There is plenty of plot and backstory making this a well rounded story with depth, character development, suspense, and unanswered questions that I'm sure will be explored later in the series. I was so unprepared for the ending and was left reeling and wanting more. I highly recommend reading this novella and the rest of the series.
This one is probably my favourite out of the series so far! I absolutely love how Sophia-Rose Johnson set this one up!
Eudoxia was such a fascinating character, and I really felt for her with everything she had been through in the beginning of the book. The survival mode, depression, and constantly struggling really made her relatable in ways I wasn’t expecting when I opened this one. Her character felt so real and raw, and I really, really appreciate the mental health rep in fiction. Also these struggles really seemed to tie well with Xenia and Anna while remaining different and yet fresh.
It was also interesting how Xenia had very much stayed true to herself. Anna had always been a stubborn little thing, but it was fun to see how she had changed from the beginning of the second book.
I’ve been ranting and raving about this series since I first read it, but now I am officially obsessed. Mind the trigger warnings, and buckle up my friends. 💕
Legit cannot wait for the next one! I NEED MORE!
Thank you so much for the advanced copy for free. I’m leaving this honest review voluntarily!

4.5 stars. Holy. Shit. I wasn’t expecting this series to get this damn good. This was fantastic. From the start as soon as we meet Eudoxia there’s just such a melancholic tone and aura about her. She’s constantly thinking about ways to die and she has the sadness to her character throughout even when she’s happy with Xenia and Anna. It was heartbreaking. Speaking of heartbreaking…that ending. Damn that ending. I had a feeling it was going to turn out that way but that was devastating and I loved it. Each book in the series has been better than the last so I hope they continue to just get better and better from here because this was fantastic.
This is the third book in the series. It can be read as a standalone.
This one was the most emotional one for me so far. I loved the story from the beginning.
Eudoxia’s life is far from perfect. She’s barely scraping by to survive, and from there, everything just goes downhill. That is, until she stumbles upon Anna and Xenia draining a man dry. She’s trying to forget, but it seems Anna doesn’t plan to let her.
What started as a fascination and a saving, quickly turns into a beautiful triad, full of romance, emotions, and a wedding.
All characters are amazingly well-written. They all complement each other, creating a beautiful story. I’m obsessed with this series.
Be mindful of triggers. But if you’re a fan of ‘why choose’ FFF vampire romance on a darker side, it’s definitely worth a read!
I received an ARC (thank you!), and this is my honest opinion.
The Thread She Unraveled, by Sophia-Rose Johnson, is the third book in her Wives of the Vampire Queen series. Each one explores difficult topics regarding women and their role in society. The Thread She Unraveled asks a timely question--can a woman rise above a life of poverty, economic exploitation, and prostitution with her soul/spirit and self-worth still intact?
Similar to the first two books in this series, The Thread She Unraveled is a very dark story overall, but leavened with moments of Sapphic passion and joy.

ARC REVIEW - I want to first say thank you to the author for gifting me a copy of their book for my honest review.
This is book 3 of the Vampire Queen series, and I'm truly enjoying how the storyline is developing. You can read these on their own as well, but please ensure to note since this is an author published novella you will have some mistyped of MC names and various words. This book does have just the right amount of spice if you love a good vampire romantasy and is an easy read to get through in an afternoon. This contains FF and FFF poly relationships along with a young woman struggling with their own identity.
I got too used to happy endings, I think, because I did not see that coming. This was so sad, I felt so much for Eudoxia, and really hoped she would find a happier life as one of the vampire wives. As usual, check trigger warnings! I love this series so much; the writing, the vampires, the female rage, the connection you build with the characters. I also really liked seeing Anna and Xenia's dynamic from a different pov, it meant we could really tell how different they are, yet so in tune.

Eudoxia has nothing and no one and she’s on the verge of losing even that when she meets the beautiful (and suspiciously strong) Anna and her mysterious companion Xenia, who extend her an offer she isn’t in the position to refuse.
This story is hauntingly beautiful; mysterious and sexy and feels like a warm cocktail that leaves you with a hangover you can't decide if you regret.
I have not read the first two stories in the series and did not feel like I missed anything, it stands entirely on its own.
TW: suicidal idealizion
I received an arc from the author, my opinions are my own.
This book was absolutely amazing. I was hooked as soon as I started reading it. Eudoxia was so relatable and you could definitely see where she was coming from. Hands down one of the best books I've read. If you're into novellas, you should definitely read this one.
Trigger warning: murder, blood drinking and blood play, sexual assault, consensual sex, misogyny and sexist behavior/ situations, death, violence, gore, suicidal ideation, menstruation, and more.
ARC Review - Thank you to the author for providing me with a free copy of the book to read and review.
This damn series. I love it. I hate it. It builds you up, everything is great. And bam! Emotional damage. I thought I was over being mad at this storyline, but here we are. Now I’m stuck impatiently waiting on the next installment to either sooth the wound or rub salt in it.
Anyway, read it. You’ll enjoy it even when you don’t.
Well, that was a surprise. I really thought I knew where this story was going, but unexpectedly Johnson pulled a deft twist that changed everything and keeps this story as gritty and dark as the first volume. I appreciate the exploration of vampirism that unapologetically delves into the monstrous while still making the characters relatable. It's reminiscent of Anne Rice's style and very different from the more recent trends in stories featuring vampires.
This was everything that I was looking for and enjoyed from a third entry of the Wives of the Vampire Queen series. The characters felt like they were supposed to and enjoyed getting into this journey with the characters. The plot was everything that I was wanting and enjoyed getting into Sophia-Rose Johnson's writing perfectly and left me wanting to read more.

In the 3rd book of the series Anna is becoming lonely , she wants more people around. Xenia gives in and decides to grow their family, Eudoxia seemed like the perfect fit. Lot of spice in this book. Eudoxia has an awakening and decides she wants to join them in marriage. Unfortunately, she's not the one
The Thread She Unraveled is the third installment in the Wives of the Vampire Queen series. We meet Eudoxia in this Cinderella inspired retelling, where she rises from rags to riches alongside her Queens, Anna and Xenia.
As Anna grows lonely, she becomes far more invested in Eudoxia than she should, creating a fascinating and emotionally charged power dynamic between the three women.
This book’s ending absolutely broke me. I have already informed the author that she will be paying for my therapy, so readers have been warned.
Overall, this was another fantastic and unforgettable story in an incredible series.
The world-building was rich, the emotional moments hit hard, and the chemistry between our friends to lovers chefs kiss. If you like your vampire stories with a side of longing, loyalty, and forbidden love, this is one you’ll always think about the characters after finishing.
Eudoxia has had a hard life, where she was born and raised. And then haw she had to survive from scraps after that. Anna and Xenia took her in, and made her part o their family. Until she decided to join them.
Follow Anna and Xenia as they weave the desolate Eudoxia into their lives.
I don’t want to say too much because I feel going in blind truly adds to the emotion of this book. It takes you back to its original dark and dreary feel dragging your heart through every melancholic and gut wrenching page.
This may well be my favourite book of the series so far and I cannot wait for the next instalment.
pretty slow start, but you get to learn the FMC and her struggles well. love how it shifts into the main storyline and she meets our vampires. once she does you don't want to stop reading.
The Thread She Unraveled (Wives of the Vampire Queen Book 3) Sophia-Rose Johnson. A short story so so good there is so much mystery, unraveling and accepting change . I enjoy it.
