Rate this book
He’s lost everything. She’s determined to show him what’s still worth fighting for.
After losing his legs in Afghanistan, Neil Morrison wants only solitude. The remote Glencoe cottage is supposed to be a place to hide from pity, from friends who’ve moved on, and from the ghosts of the men he couldn’t save. He doesn’t need modifications. He doesn’t need company. And he definitely doesn’t need a woman with opinions louder than the Highland wind.
Rhona MacLeod doesn’t take no for an answer. As an adaptive architect and ex-Royal Engineer, she’s built her career on helping veterans reclaim independence. Her latest client might be her toughest challenge yet—a proud man determined to suffer in silence. But when a freak flood cuts them off from the world, she’s forced to prove that accepting help isn’t weakness…and that love might be the strongest structure of all.
As tempers flare and sparks fly, walls begin to crumble—inside and out.
And when disaster strikes the glen, Neil must choose between hiding from his past or leading again alongside the woman who refuses to give up on him.
If you love grumpy wounded heroes, fierce heroines who won’t give up, slow-burn passion and small-town Scottish charm, you’ll fall hard for Stranded with the Highlander. One storm, one cottage, one chance to rebuild—grab your copy today.

Skye MacDonald writes steamy contemporary romances that celebrate the rugged beauty and urban energy of Scotland. Under this pen name she explores love in all its forms—from off‑grid Highland cabins to glass‑walled penthouses overlooking Edinburgh Castle.

Her heroes range from gruff craftsmen and reclusive mountain men to charismatic billionaires; her heroines are curvy, creative women who refuse to settle for anything less than passion and partnership.

Skye’s reads are packed with tropes readers crave—forced proximity, grumpy‑sunshine dynamics, second chances and instalove—yet each story offers its own unique twist and emotional depth.

Writing is Skye’s second act after a decade in travel journalism, where she fell in love with the north’s wild landscapes and the capital’s thriving arts scene. That wanderlust now fuels her fiction.

When she isn’t writing, Skye can be found trekking along lochside trails, losing herself in Edinburgh’s bookshops, and sharing drams of whisky with her husband and two terriers. She believes there’s magic in every storm and starlit street—and her goal is to capture that magic on the page so readers can fall in love with Scotland right alongside her characters.

There are some stories that don’t just entertain you—they heal something inside you. Stranded with the Highlander is one of those rare, breathtaking reads that stays with you long after you turn the final page. It’s a story about pain, pride, and the quiet courage it takes to let someone in again after the world has broken you apart.

Neil Morrison is the kind of hero that steals your heart not because he’s perfect, but because he’s real. A proud, wounded veteran hiding away in the Scottish Highlands, Neil isn’t just battling his physical scars—he’s wrestling with the guilt and grief that came home from Afghanistan with him. The remote Glencoe cottage is his sanctuary of silence, until Rhona MacLeod storms in like the very wind he can’t ignore.

Rhona is everything he doesn’t want and exactly what he needs—a fierce, capable woman who sees potential where he only sees loss. As an adaptive architect and ex-Royal Engineer, she’s not intimidated by his walls; she’s ready to help rebuild them. But what starts as a battle of wills soon becomes a battle of hearts when a violent storm traps them together, forcing both to face the truth: maybe broken doesn’t mean beyond repair.

What I loved most about this story is how honest it is. It doesn’t romanticize trauma or healing—it shows how love can be both tender and infuriating, messy and miraculous. The chemistry between Neil and Rhona is slow-burn perfection, full of biting banter, emotional tension, and moments so raw they make you catch your breath. And the Scottish setting? Absolutely gorgeous—wild, rugged, and perfectly matched to the mood of two souls finding their way through the wreckage.

By the end, you’ll be rooting not just for their love, but for Neil’s rediscovery of himself—and for Rhona’s stubborn, beautiful belief that no one is too far gone to be rebuilt.

❤️ If you love:

Grumpy, wounded heroes who make you ache in the best way

Fierce, compassionate heroines who refuse to give up

Forced proximity (and one cozy Scottish cottage)

Emotional healing, found family, and small-town charm

The idea that sometimes, love isn’t about fixing someone—it’s about standing beside them while they rebuild

Then you need to read Stranded with the Highlander.

It’s heartfelt, hopeful, and deeply human—a love story that proves even in the darkest storm, there’s still light waiting to break through.

My first read in this series and took a chance on this given I've been to Glencoe. :) My travel's there left me with a deep love of the country and as with the green guys, anything with a Scottish theme, is a desired read. In this we have Rhona, she's made it her life role to help service men and Neil is her latest challenge. For a short read, it has all you need to keep invested in this couple.

It’s a great story, very well written and characters are just wonderful.
Is drama romance, a lot of angst but very uplifting.
