Lighting Up Christmas : A Cascade Falls Holiday Romance

Rate this book
Twelve years ago, Brennan Morgan left me standing in my prom dress.

Now he's back in Cascade Falls with his rockstar swagger and dangerous smile. The worst part? We have to work together on the Christmas festival entertainment committee. Which means hours of planning, picking trees, and stringing lights, while I pretend my heart doesn't still beat for him.

He says he's changed. Maybe he has. But trusting him again? It will take more than gingerbread lattes, Christmas cheer, and those seductive smiles to convince me.

This was a fun read--perfect for Christmas when we want to think about forgiveness, hope, and what really matters in life. Cascade Falls is delightful in the best way of small town romances, and the side characters are well drawn and perfect for the story. But those are all the cherry on top of the deliciousness that is the chemistry between Brennan and Crystal. The two POVs are well-drawn, so the reader gets the front seat ride along for all that romance and emotion.

Lighting up Christmas by Katie Rose definitely reads just like hallmark movie - but with spice! I guess that’s why some people are calling at “Hallmark after dark.”

I really enjoyed the small-town charm of this story, and I’m a sucker for childhood sweethearts. The second chance romance was very sweet, and I feel like the evolution from the initial angst and tension to the ending felt realistic, even though it was packed into a short novella. It was a quick but satisfying read that left me feeling happy and wanting to decorate for Christmas even though it’s not even Halloween yet, lol. I did go make myself some cider!

I haven’t ever read a book before that had a main character who was a rockstar, and that was a really fun angle to explore. I wonder if someone that famous could really settle into a normal life in a small town, but I guess they must!

While it’s not pertinent to me personally, I thought it was great that there was a spotlight on sobriety. I know that for many people this is a struggle, especially in the entertainment industry, and especially around holidays and family dinners. It’s always great when you see real world issues presented well in fiction. I’m sure members of AA would be pleased to read about celebrations that do not revolve around spiced wine and spiked eggnog.

This was the first book I’ve read by Katie Rose, given to me for an honest review, and I am curious to see more!

Crystal has made a life for herself as a librarian in the small town she grew up in. However, when she runs into the man who ghosted her on prom night, who she hasn’t heard from in over a decade, her entire existence is thrown upside down. Forced to work with him to plan the town’s holiday festivities, she is determined not to let him break down her defenses, knowing if she lets him in, she won’t survive when he inevitably leaves again.

Brennan has spent the past 12 years touring the world as a rockstar, but has never forgotten the girl or the town he left behind. After hitting rock bottom, he is determined to make amends with Crystal, not willing to lose her again. His initial reunion with her does not go as he had planned, and he realizes that proving to her that he changed will be harder than he thought.

This was a beautiful story of love, second chances, redemption, and childhood connection. I loved how the characters take us down memory lane, remembering some of the significant moments between them. It quickly becomes obvious how much their feelings for each other still linger after all this time, and watching Brennan gradually win Crystal over, despite her best efforts, was so sweet.

I received an early copy of this book from the author and absolutely loved it. With Hallmark movie vibes, including the town festivals and small-town gossip, you won’t be able to avoid feeling warm and fuzzy.

Lighting Up Christmas isn’t just another holiday love story — it’s about healing, forgiveness, and finding your way back to the person who always felt like home.

Brennan and Crystal’s story pulled me right in. After ghosting her for twelve years, Brennan comes back, and suddenly all those old memories, emotions, and what-ifs come flooding back. The flashbacks were done perfectly — tender, nostalgic, and full of meaning.

This is definitely a slow burn with a “Hallmark After Dark” vibe. It starts sweet and emotional, but once it hits the halfway point, the intensity and passion skyrocket.
What I loved most was the growth — Brennan battling his demons, Crystal learning to trust again. Their journey felt raw, real, and ultimately redemptive. By the end, I was smiling through tears.

A second-chance love story that lingers long after the last page.

“I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review”

If you enjoy cozying up with the Hallmark Channel, then you will love Lighting Up Christmas! This book gives you all the warm cuddly feels. But it’s not that sweet because Katie brings a little bit of spice with this book! I enjoyed the banter between the main characters and was really drawn into the story. The ending was left a little open-ended so I’m wondering “will a novella come out “??? Overall a great fun read for the holiday season!

I received this book as an ARC, and was my first book by Katie Rose. The tropes are listed as:

~ Childhood Friends
~ Slow Burn
~ Forced Proximity
~ Snowed In
~ He Falls First
~ Hallmark After Dark

Ok yesssssss to all. I knew what to expect going in, and it delivered. It was a super quick, super cute and fun story. Exactly what you want in a cozy romantic holiday read!

My only gripes are the overuse of the phrase “fuck my life” and “baby.” 😬 There are also a couple overly cheesy parts (needing a “label” and what are we?) but they’re easy to overlook.

A cute, cozy wonderful story to kick off Christmas season that has childhood love with second chances featuring a rockstar/small town librarian with forced proximity.

The author does a wonderful job describing the scenery/town and transports you into the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the description of the small town festival transformation from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I am also a sucker for a snowy cabin scene.

The author also does a magnificent job of taking you down memory lane to showcase significant moments that add depth to the story and further prove the love they still have for each other buried under past hurts and insecurities is true. It tugs on your heartstrings and brings out emotions and memories of past hurt that then lead to the road to forgiveness.

I received an eARC copy of this book from the author and the best way I can describe this book is a Hallmark after dark movie script. It made me want to curl up in a blanket, sip some hot cocoa and watch the twinkling lights of a Christmas tree with the one I love. I absolutely loved this book and am thankful for the opportunity for an advanced copy.

I’m finding that I love a good rockstar romance. Second chance romance, sign me up.

First off, I love that the FMC works in a library. Seriously, can you say dream job for us book lovers?

Brennan left Crystal waiting for him in her prom dress years ago. Like what do you mean he stood her up ON PROM NIGHT!?! Talk about trauma. Can she forgive him when he waltzes back into town? I probably wouldn’t.

Back in town, Brennan hopes this is his chance to find forgiveness for leaving her behind, and right past wrongs.

He says he’s changed. It might take more than a rockstar smile, and a walk down memory lane for her to forgive him.

This is the absolute perfect start to my holiday reads! Crys and Brennan working together for the Christmas lighting festival, with seasonal favorites sprinkled in. Definitely a great cozy read for the upcoming holiday!

Small-town romance meets rockstar romance in the most heartwarming, magical way. 💫

Crystal and Brennan’s story hit me right in the feels — childhood friends torn apart by circumstance, only to find their way back to each other years later. Sometimes, we meet our soulmate before we even understand what love really is… and sometimes, it takes a little Christmas magic to bring that love home again.

This book had everything I wanted — emotion, second chances, holiday sparkle, and a love story that just feels right. Katie Rose perfectly captures that cozy, small-town charm while giving us a rockstar edge and spice that makes it impossible to put down.

Get ready to buckle up, fall in love, and let Crystal and Brennan light up your holiday season early. 🎄❤️💚

Lighting Up Christmas is a heartwarming, small-town second-chance romance that glows with festive charm and emotional depth. When Brennan, the one who left Crystal heartbroken, returns to Cascade Falls, the sparks between them reignite faster than the town’s Christmas lights.

Full of chemistry, witty banter, and just the right amount of angst, this story perfectly blends Hallmark magic with a hint of heat. The forced proximity and snowed-in moments add tension, while Brennan’s “he falls first” devotion gives all the swoon-worthy feels.

If you love romances where forgiveness, love, and Christmas spirit intertwine, Lighting Up Christmas is the perfect cozy (and spicy) holiday escape.

I enjoyed this Christmas story. It definitely was more along the lines of a Hallmark Christmas story, but with spice. I thought it was delightful. My only issue was that I wish it was longer so we could get more details about Brennan’s past. I needed more information with his story. Actually, I wouldn’t have minded more of Crystal’s either. That being said for a light Christmas read I would definitely recommend it.

I also want to add that I LOVED Crystal’s comeback during one scene with Melissa. Finally a FMC says what I’ve wanted others to say during similar situations.😏

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Lighting Up Christmas! I did love the story line just thought it went a little quick from not being together for 12 years then automatically together again. Needed just a little more slow burn 🔥 but I loved the characters and loved having a sober character and his struggles when times got hard. Really bringing to light that reaching out to someone you trust goes a long way! Perfect read for the holidays 🎄🌶️

I loved this book. The characters spoke with real dialogue as opposed to contrived versions of small town folk. I love the second chance trope and appreciated the misunderstanding was acknowledged early on. I would definitely like to read more in the Cascade Falls series.

I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Lighting Up Christmas by Katie Rose. This book was really cute. It’s a small town second chance romance where rockstar Brennan comes back to his small town and has to work alongside librarian Crystal to organize the town Christmas festival. Is this book predictable? Yes, but it’s an adorable Hallmark Christmas novel. If you’re looking for a book that makes you kick your feet, I’d recommend giving this book a read.

This book is nonstop cozy holiday vibes! The characters are all so easy to love, which is amazing. I love how you see so much from the side characters and know they love their family! The FMC and MMC are both hurting from a past that they need each other to face, and you can tell their love runs deep. I love the family aspect of it, and would 100% recommend to anyone looking for a cozy read.

Do you love second chance romance? Christmas? Rockstars? Then this is the book for you.

This book is quick, spicy, and overall a good time. I really loved the AA aspect in here as that is a reality for a lot of people especially during the holidays.

The FMC deals with a lot of anxiety and trust issues and the one that got away aspect is super cute.

I loved this book! Lighting Up Christmas by Katie Rose is exactly the kind of holiday romance I crave! You know, one with sweet, small-town charm with a little Hallmark-after-dark spice on the side. The cover caught my eye first, that golden glow feels exactly how I imagine Cascade Falls: cozy, warm, and dusted in twinkling lights.

Crystal and Brennan’s second-chance romance had me hooked from the start. I loved the forced proximity when they were snowed in and how Brennan fell first and hard. The small-town details were perfect, and the writing felt real and natural, not at all contrived or over the top. By the time I reached the last page, I was left wanting more!

If you love short, festive romances with childhood friends, snowed-in moments, and a hero determined to earn a second chance, Lighting Up Christmas is a perfect holiday read. I absolutely adored it.

Thanks so much Katie for the advanced copy!

This is the first book by this author that I have read and I absolutely loved it! I love that not only is this a story of so many kinds of love - romantic love, love of family and friends and being in love with a place in this case, Cascade Falls - but it is a story of forgiveness. I love how although Crystal comes to terms with forgiving Brennan because she loves him now and always has, she still needs to work through her fear of being abandoned by him again. I also love how Brennan will do just about anything to gain her love and trust even if he makes some little mistakes along the way. I also enjoyed this being a holiday romance with all the mentions of the Christmas tree farm and the holiday events in this small town.

Thank you Katie Rose for providing this ARC of Lighting Up Christmas in exchange for my review.

There are definitely elements of this book that give Hallmark cosy Christmas movie... but the spice? Let’s just say that wouldn’t be making it to pre-watershed TV time.

This is a short and sweet festive romance featuring some of my favourite tropes. Crystal clearly has a bone to pick with Brennan after his disappearing act, and true to form, he’s yet another man allergic to communication who thinks running solves everything. Still, credit where it’s due... he pours his heart out through songs and actually makes an effort to set things right, even if Crystal’s determined not to hear it.

A Secod Chance to Shine

Katie Rose's *Lighting Up Christmas* is a charming, heartfelt journey back to small-town roots, wrapped up in the magic of the holiday season and the sizzling energy of a second-chance rock 'n' roll romance. This book will make you believe in Christmas miracles and the enduring power of true love.

Lighting up Christmas centers on Crystal, a woman who stayed in her picturesque hometown of Cascade Falls, and Brennan, the boy who left without a goodbye to chase fame and fortune. Growing up, they were inseparable, but Brennan's dream of becoming a rock star took him far away—until it didn't. Now, having battled his own demons, including alcoholism, Brennan is back. He's looking to turn his grandparents' farm into a music venue, and is determined to win back the only girl he's ever truly loved.
Katie Rose masterfully balances the nostalgic warmth of a small-town setting with the gritty reality of recovery and regret.

The connection between Crystal and Brennan is undeniable. The years apart haven't dimmed the spark, making their slow-burn journey toward reconciliation incredibly satisfying. You genuinely root for Brennan to prove he's changed and for Crystal to risk her heart again.
Brennan is a deeply flawed, yet ultimately lovable hero. His fight against alcoholism and his commitment to his grandparents' legacy give his return a weighty sincerity. It's not just about winning the girl; it's about finding his way home in every sense of the word.
Cascade Falls, especially dusted in Christmas snow, feels like a character itself. It provides the perfect backdrop for healing and second chances, filled with the cozy atmosphere and supportive community crucial to this kind of romance.
Lighting Up Christmas isn't just a holiday story; it's a testament to the fact that it's never too late to fix a mistake, and that sometimes, the biggest dreams are the ones that lead you right back where you started. If you love stories about redemption, deep emotional history, and holiday cheer, this book deserves a prime spot on your reading list.

I was super lucky to receive this book as an ARC and Katie Rose did not disappoint! A second chance romance mixed with holiday spirit is such a vibe and Katie Rose delivers it in the best way.

If you want a second chance romance with forced proximity, that includes small town vibes in that Hallmark Christmas way we know and love (or secretly love), then look no further, because this is the book for you!

I am the type of person who has a hard time finding holiday themed books that actually scratch the holiday itch, while also captivating my attention. So, believe me when I tell you that I absolutely adored this book and could not put it down.

Not only is it the perfect read for this upcoming Christmas season, but it would also be perfect for anyone who is in a reading slump and is in need of the perfect love story to get them out of it.

I enjoyed the aspect of our MMC, Brennan, being a Rockstar who was brought back to his hometown to reunite with his childhood friend, Crystal (FMC), after the passing of his grandfather. To me, the rockstar element is not one that I have seen as much in my usual romance stories. So, this was a nice added bonus as Brennan is in the running for my latest book boyfriend.

I definitely recommend reading this to get you in the holiday spirit in more than one way as Katie Rose delivers this amazing story with the right amount of spice and everything nice ;)

Please consider not taking my word for it and finding out for yourself. I promise you won't regret it! This book will be released on November 1st, 2025, right in time for the Christmas season. So, go ahead and set a reminder on your calendars now!

This was a cute Christmas romance. It was really quick, cozy and a little spicy.
This is about Crystal and Brennan. They’ve known each other since they were children, but Brennan left to become a big-time rockstar 12 years ago. He broke Crystal‘s heart and she hasn’t recovered since. Brennan comes back to take over his grandparents’ Christmas tree farm after they’ve passed, but continue to be a rockstar. And he still loves Crystal. The town is quant and just what we all love of PNW small towns.

I felt like the love was very quick. I know that they loved each other when they were kids, but when I found out that they had never even kissed it seemed very quick to just all of a sudden be in love. With that being said, it is a very short standalone romance. The main problem I had with it was that there was extreme amounts of description. And that seems kind of strange to say that that was a downfall, but in the end, it was descriptions that were being said aloud by the characters as excessive descriptive knowledge of situations and feelings. Quite a bit of it could’ve been said in other ways or was just known already by the reader. I’m just not a huge fan of things that we already know as readers being said and described multiple times by the actual characters. It doesn’t come off as true. With that being said, if it was trimmed down a little bit, then I think it would be a great short story. The spice was fun, not a lot of it but just enough.
Overall I’m giving a 3.5 star because I think a lot of people would really love this. I will definitely recommend this as a Pacific Northwest author for a fun Christmas story. Thank you for the ARC!

I really liked this book it definitely gives the hallmark vibes. You kind of know where the story is going, but not really. It's a very cute small town romance where everyone knows everything that happens within minutes, which makes a personal life or, in this case, past history hard to cope with and manage. Seeing both sides of the FMC and MMC stories really does this story justice you can really connect and sympathize with both characters. You get to see the FMC battle through her insecurities that her past has caused her and carved deep into her. For the MMC, you really get to see his side of the story and his battle with alcohol addiction. Together, you get to see the ups and downs of working through a difficult relationship with a past betrayal. Overall, I really enjoyed this story!

A short and sweet hallmark after dark Christmas romance with sweets and treats I need to try one day.

Thank you, Katie Rose for an ARC copy.

I am not normally a contemporary romance reader, but believe me when I say this will get any romance fan into the spirit. The small town reality had me sympathizing for Crystal, but at the same time, I love how Katie highlighted the good things about small towns and their strong sense of community. I really appreciated how Katie didn't shy away from the raw reality of addiction and how recovery never ends, it's the rest of your life one day at a time. This was just such a cute little read I devoured in one session. Add it to your holiday TBR this year and enjoy it with the cozy beverage of your choice.

“What are we even going to do stuck in this cabin all night? There’s no internet, no TV, I don’t see any books or board games…” “Shall I serenade you? Entertain you with music?” I go to the corner of the room and pick up an acoustic guitar. Crystal jumps to her knees on the couch clapping her hands. “Yes. Treat me to the type of private concert that thousands of women would kill to experience.”

This story follows Crystal and Brennan, childhood best friends whose bond was shattered when Brennan disappeared—on prom night, no less—and didn’t return until twelve years later. Crystal was heartbroken by his sudden departure, and when she sees him again, she wants nothing to do with him. Brennan is back to take care of his late grandfather’s farm, and the Mayor of Cascade Falls has tasked him and Crystal with organizing entertainment for the town’s Christmas festival.

It’s a quick, engaging read. I enjoyed it overall, though I found Crystal’s reaction to Brennan a bit intense after so many years. Just as Brennan attends AA to work through his drinking issues, perhaps Crystal could benefit from therapy to help her process what happened when they were still immature teens. The ending also felt a little rushed.

That said, I loved seeing the two reconnect. The portrayal of Brennan’s struggle with alcoholism and the support he receives from his sponsors was handled with care. The depiction of family support was heartwarming, and the town’s gossip added a fun layer of humor to the story.

Overall, I’m glad I read this book—it was a cozy holiday romance with emotional depth and a satisfying second-chance arc.

A lovely contemporary romantic comedy Christmas Romance that hits all the high points and doesn't leave you wanting at all. Brennan is adorably boy-next-door turned sexy rockstar, and Crystal is like an angry kitten - she's got claws but when you tickle her belly she turns into a sweet little ball of fluff. I thought the second-chance aspect of this story was very believable and really liked that it focused on the relationship most of all. I also like that the characters act like real adults who have flaws, but are finding healthy ways to grow and overcome them.

I also loved Crystal's family, how they were so nosy but also so supportive of her. And I want to move to Cascade Falls! The author painted such a charming portrait of a small, "hallmark-style" town that I felt like I could just drive down the road and visit.

This is the second Cascade Falls romance I've read by this author and while I'm not normally a contemporary reader, I make an exception here because I absolutely love everything this author writes. She gives you all the feels and wonderful spice to boot. I can't wait for next Christmas - or maybe a Cascade Falls Valentine's Day? Pretty please? :)

Lighting Up Christmas by Katie Rose completely stole my heart. From the very first page, I was hooked — the perfect mix of small-town charm, holiday magic, and the kind of emotional slow burn that keeps you turning pages until way past bedtime.

This book has everything:
🎸 Rockstar MMC trying to find peace in his hometown
🏡 Cozy small town filled with holiday traditions
💔 Second chances and old wounds between childhood friends
🔥 A slow burn that finally ignites halfway through (and it’s SO worth the wait!)
🏠 Forced proximity + snowed in = pure perfection
🎄 Hallmark vibes… but with that after dark twist we all secretly crave

Katie Rose nailed the nostalgia, the longing, and the cozy Christmas atmosphere while giving us a love story that feels both heartwarming and deliciously emotional. I laughed, I teared up, and I swooned HARD.

If you love small town Christmas romances that feel like a hug but still bring the heat, Lighting Up Christmas is an absolute must-read.

✨ Hallmark after dark has never looked this good.

A dedication message that speaks directly to my soul❤️

Let's begin with what I love most about this book..it's how it managed to give you a light, sweet romance while balancing the pressures and struggles of the characters beautifully. Add in a Christmas theme and it had me in a choke-hold.
Both MMC and FMC are not to be taken at face value, their personal struggles have shapped them and at times it seems hard for them to overcome the mistakes of the past, but we see growth with them as well as a reminder that growth, isn't linear. And I'm here for it!
Personally, I felt like some more healing could've taken place before some spicy bits but I live for a nice make-up spicy scene 🌶 and 'Hallmark after Dark seems to be my new favourite' thanks to Miss Katie Rose.

Overall I truly enjoyed the book, the premise and the characters so much. I devoured this book and I'm waiting with bated breath to see what's next from Cascade Falls.

To Katie and her team, special thanks to you for an advanced copy.
It's a beautiful story and it was my pleasure to review it.
