Hotter than Hell

Exorcise Me

Rate this book
They told me exorcisms were a battle for souls. They didn’t warn me about him.

Lucien—tall, charming, impossibly smug—was supposed to be the evil I drove out. Instead, he’s the temptation that moved in. He laughs when I recite holy verses, leans in close enough to make me forget the words, and insists he’s not wicked—just lonely.

Every time I tell him to leave, he just smiles and asks what’s for dinner. And maybe I’m damned already… because I keep cooking for him.

It started with stolen glances and teasing touches. Now he’s in my space, my thoughts, my bed—whispering things that make me ache, promising pleasures no mortal has a right to crave. I swore an oath to protect the innocent. I never imagined I’d risk it all for the one thing I was trained to destroy.

Banishing him would be easier if I didn’t crave the way he says my name.

Callie is a romance author who believes every love story deserves a happy ending — and a little heat along the way. Known for her lighthearted, swoony, and steamy novels, she delights in creating characters who make readers laugh, blush, and believe in love. When she’s not writing, Callie can be found hunting for the perfect vintage teacup, baking wildly over-decorated cupcakes, and choreographing impromptu kitchen dance parties to 80s pop hits. She lives with an ever-growing collection of romance paperbacks, a mischievous cat named Biscuit, and a firm conviction that love — like sprinkles — makes everything better.

A young man of the church is an exorcist but he meets his match with the demon called Lucien, a very confident and cocky demon actually who happens to be a great cook. A nice read.

This was so cute! I would have liked it to be longer. I loved the dialogue and the MCs character development. Some of the fade-to-blacks / time jumps were disappointing. The description of intimacy was also repetitive. Overall though I had a great time.

Here's Callie Colby's "Exorcise Me." It's the third book in her Hotter Than Hell series.

["They told me exorcisms were a battle for souls. They didn’t warn me about him.

This book was adorable as hell (no pun intended)!!! They were so soft and accepting, even in the face of life-changing realizations.

It was a different kind of angst than the previous two books, but it was also a faster, warmer fall into love.

I didn't expect this book when I read the previous two last week, but I wouldn't say no to more.

AI use?

This is the third and last book I’m going to read from this author as I suspect they use AI.

I started to read the hotter than hell books and I was starting to like the stories a bit but then some things just started making me suspicious of whether or not this author uses AI. For example, the book covers have that look I’ve come to associate with ai generated photos paired with the fact there’s no cover credit for them. Also, the pictures don’t fully match with the character descriptions you get in the books. For example, in the first book Julian has blonde hair on the cover but in the book he talks about his “dark hair” and in the second book Morax is described as having obsidian skin (which if I’m not wrong is usually black) multiple times but the cover shows him having bright red skin.

I’ve also noticed at lot of authors will put a no AI/bot disclaimer at the start of their books, which these books do not have. Also, the fact that I can’t seem to find any social media or online presence for this author either makes me suspicious of ai being used.

thoughts n feelings:
-a lot of MM fantasy romances I read fall victim to the Terrible Indie Cover epidemic but this one is cute!!
-banter was good but a lot of the other dialogue was corny as hell
-multiple fade-to-black sex scenes, which was weird -- this was a novella, so it's not like they were omitted for brevity. if i'm reading about a demon and a human hooking up, it needs to be more exciting I fear
-I liked the plot, a surprising amount considering this was barely 90 pages.
-I felt like something was missing???? idek what tho

I picked this book up on a whim purely because I adore the cover!
Unfortunately, the story within does not live up to it. I honestly feel like I've been punked.

A human exorcist and a demon hooking up? Yes please!
Unfortunately what we get is a whole lot of fade to black (I initially flipped back and forth through the pages thinking I'd missed something), and very little development in the romance side of things.
I felt like Noah's job was more fleshed out and in depth than his relationship with Lucien was.
Overall it was kinda cute, but a disappointment.

I found this cute. So you have a demon and a exorcist. What happens when you go to exercise a demon from somebody's house and instead to bring them home to yours, well the human main male character knows that part. I like how the mane human character was encouraged by the demon not push or Force but truly encouraged to really think outside the box to really look into other aspects of it. I would recommend this if you like an M&M cute demon f
Based romance. Although I feel like it could be longer.

Pretty good and sweet short story but two problems

First, the cover is completely wrong : Noah isn’t a priest (the older exorcists are Fathers but he’s just Noah) so why the clerical collar? Lucien is described with human features, so why the red skin and horns?

Second, it’s the Catholic Church, and no one, Council or Noah himself, bats an eye about the gender of the demon? Really, priests who don’t condemn homosexuality? Nope, more unrealistic than the demon aspect…

This was a short novella about a exorcist who meets a demon and starts to seriously question everything he has been taught. There is a lot of angst about his faith and what he should believe. Can demons love, questions like that. I feel like if this was longer, the angst could have really been cranked up, but the tone was kept pretty light considering the subject matter.

This was not the light-hearted silly/fun story I was expecting. Nothing like the first book with the vet (which admittedly was hard to believe).

Having to leave the community you were raised in. Even realizing their prejudice, rejection still hurts; having to find a new path and new community is still scary.

I love Lucien and Noah so much. There’s so much growth in Noah where he finds his place and what he truly wants to do. I like how Lucien gave Noah space to explore himself but was always there. I think their two are super sweet.

AI slop.

From the copyright page: Callie Colby asserts the moral right to be identified as the author of this work.

I wouldn't say someone who uses AI to create something knows what morals are. :) But yea, this author is pumping out AI crap so beware.

A cute little short story

I wasn’t expecting it to actually make me laugh out loud but the sass coming from Lucien was amazing he criticised Noah about his pronunciation, his grammar, his car and his spice rack. I could read more books about these two and not get bored.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed Noah and Lucien’s book. The storyline is interesting with a relationship between a demon and an exorcist, but behind it all is a sweet romance between two souls meant for each other

Cozy cuteness

Cozy cuteness, of questioning and acceptance and love in unexpected places, a short, adorable read that's good for a rainy day of escape.

Short but sweet. Honestly, too short for me to rate it anything over a 3 stars though I honestly liked it. It needed more development for anything higher

This could have been a little beefier and even made into a series, but, even with that, the storyline was good!
