What’s better than a book boyfriend? The voice actor who narrates him.
Raven Lovelace lives for success – her financial firm at the forefront leaves no room for distractions. Especially not the kind that comes with a voice that could melt steel and awakens desires people didn’t know they had. When everything is going as planned, a new client catches Raven’s attention. He’s everything she isn’t supposed to want – younger, laid back, and sounds exactly like the audiobook narrator she can’t get out of her head.
Ryan Mitchell never expected his online voice content as “Zander Kane” would become his career. One viral romance audiobook later, he’s the hottest in the industry – but he realizes his popularity might not last forever. A search result and a phone call later, he finds himself transfixed on his financial advisor, the one woman who can’t let herself fall apart at the sound of his voice.
What starts as a virtual flirtation spirals into an obsessive passion neither of them expected. Ghosts from Raven’s past lurk in the shadows, threatening to destroy everything she’s built – including her relationship with Ryan. But Ryan isn’t the only one veiled behind a mask, and the truth could cost them everything.
Moniker is a dark voice kink romance, the first in the Dark Voices series. While it is a standalone, it's recommended to read Moniker first. This novel is intended for readers 18 and older. Some content may be disturbing to readers. Please check the beginning of the book or the author's website for warnings.
Voice Kink / Virtual to IRL / Forbidden Romance / Secret Identity / Reverse Age Gap / Opposites Attract
~ ARC REVIEW ~ was looking forward to this because i have been looking for more reverse age gap dark romance but ultimately, this one didnt do it for me. Dnf at around the 48% mark. the fmc felt really shallow in that it didn't feel like she really had much of a personality. the sub plut felt unnecessary and kinda left me confused? i think the author has potential, and since this is their debut novel, i think theres room for improving. i would be willing to read another book by this author in the future to see how their writing may mature.
Thank you to Wrenna King and Tales & Teacups for an advanced copy of this book.

Raven is such a delightfully sassy woman. I had a lot of fun reading from her perspective and seeing what a boss she was. Running your own company is hard and exhausting but she handles it with such grace. I loved the way she interacted with the two ladies who worked with her, creating meaningful work relationships but also great friendships. Seeing their dynamic was a lot of fun. I really admired how she handled everything that was thrown her way, but I couldn’t resist grinning whenever she was flustered. It helped endear her to me - proving she is just as human as the rest of us! Ryan was quite the surprise. I expected someone cocky considering his job and the following he has amassed but he was the complete opposite. Sure, he knows his voice is a turn on and uses it to his advantage but he is an incredibly down to earth guy which I loved. Of course, I also thoroughly enjoyed his darker moments and behaviours but he backed everything up with his genuine nature - he deeply cares about Raven and he made that known. What a great character!
I found myself quickly intrigued by the premise of this book. I’m not a big audiobook girlie but there is just something that hits right about a man’s voice reading some of my favourite bookish quotes… This was a delight from start to finish. I loved the emphasis on the lesser spoken about voice kink. I’m sure most of us have it when we find the right voice and I loved how this book took it to new levels. Things felt relatively fast paced, sweeping the reader up in the story. I enjoyed having both of their perspectives as it heightened the mystery shrouding both of them, keeping me guessing about what they were hiding! Character wise, we don’t have many people we’re introduced to beyond the main duo. I was a little cautious about this but it actually works really well. The focus of the story remains on their interactions and how they impact each other instead of others jumping in and stealing the reader’s attention. The romance is fantastic, full of sass and angst and yearning which is just chef’s kiss in my mind. And the spice? Omg, that was HOT from both of them. I was not expecting that! The ending felt so perfect for this story. A big twist after all the build up that answered any questions I had pop up throughout the story. What a brilliant book this is!
Overall, Moniker is definitely a book I’d recommend to any audiobook lover!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

"There are worse monsters in the world, Ryan. I know a monster when I see one."
I am so grateful to Luna Literary Management and Bookfunnel for the ARC of this book. Thank you to the author for all the time and effort you spent writing and editing this work.

3.5 stars
Gosh, where to begin. This book was really... good. It can definitely be better. There were a multitude of scenes where I found myself blushing or covering my mouth in excitement. I resonated well with the characters but felt as if their development was very vague and could be touched on a little more. The author does very well at telling a story... but I wanted her to show me.
There is one quote I will never recover from and I thank the author for writing it. It has lived rent free in my mind since.
"F*** baby, you're exquisite."
There were a few times the author said something alluding to the fact that Ryan let on who he was to Raven early in the story- before they met- and I wasn't sure if she was just playing dumb or it was intentional.
I understand the excitement that comes with writing a book and getting ahead of yourself, especially when dealing with character movements. That is one part this author fell short on- on more than one occasion. I found myself rereading multiple emotionally charged, moving scenes and felt quite confused about positions and what was going on.
ALSO- I follow the author on social media and she made a point to post about the correlation between the release date and the book- but the only pattern I am finding is that her office is on the 13th floor- am I right? Please tell me I am right.
Thank you again, I did enjoy it a little bit and I am sure with another round of editing before release- and maybe an audio of this book since it is about VA- that it will be a 5 star read, for sure. I hope you find your readers. <3

Whispered Control, Spoken Need
There is something instantly gripping about 'Moniker' by Wrenna King, because it does not rely on the usual sparks to pull the story forward. It leans into an original concept where connection is built through sound, timing, restraint, and the kind of closeness that feels almost private to the reader. From the first chapters, the voice focused tension creates a pulse under every scene, like the story is breathing right against the page.
The pacing is one of the strongest parts. The relationship is not rushed, and that slow burn gives every interaction space to deepen. Conversations carry weight, pauses feel loaded, and the power dynamics shift in small, deliberate ways that make the chemistry feel earned. The voice kink is woven in with intention, not as a gimmick, but as a language between two people who are learning where desire meets trust. It heightens the intimacy while also revealing character, especially in the moments where vulnerability slips through the cracks.
What lingers most is the emotional layer beneath the heat. This story understands that intensity is not just about what happens, but about what it costs to let someone in. The characters feel driven by needs that are not always easy to name, and that psychological edge keeps the tension sharp even when the story turns quiet.
By the end, 'Moniker' leaves behind that delicious feeling of having been completely pulled into a dynamic that is equal parts control and comfort. The kind of romance where one voice can change the air in a room, and the echo stays long after the final page.
Voice Kink | Virtual to IRL | Forbidden Romance | Secret Identity | Reverse Age Gap | Opposites Attract
As a voice enjoyer, I genuinely thought this book would be right up my alley. I was excited going in and very ready to fall for a voice kink dark romance.
I don’t typically read reverse age gap, but that element didn’t bother me. What ultimately made me DNF at 40% were a few consistency and characterization issues.
Raven unfortunately felt underdeveloped and one dimensional. Her entire identity seems to revolve around work. She works A LOT, just listens to said Xander's audiobooks, and that’s about it. I understand she grew up with financial instability, though the book also notes her parents weren’t necessarily destitute. Still, she has no hobbies, no distinct quirks, and felt like a workaholic. I struggled to connect with her except that she's a goth queen.
The insta-lust during the very first phone call also lost me. Truly. But the level of immediate intensity felt exaggerated. It went from professional call to overwhelming desire in seconds, and it didn’t feel earned.
The stalker subplot added more confusion. Raven suspects her ex from ten years ago and is clearly in fight-or-flight mode, even carrying a knife. Completely understandable. But then she briefly suspects Ryan and becomes instantly aroused at the thought. I couldn’t tell if the story wanted me to feel tension, fear, attraction, or all three. The emotional throughline felt muddled and predictable.
There were also some phrasing choices that pulled me out, such as referring to anatomy as “lady bits.” That one nearly made me launch my Kindle across the room.
Additionally, there’s a contradiction where Raven states she hasn’t been with anyone or touched herself in ten years, but later says she “takes care of herself if needed.” Small detail, but my brain is unable to overlook inconsistencies in books.
For a debut novel, there’s potential here. I really did try to push through because the premise appealed to me. But at 40%, it started to feel like I was forcing myself to read rather than enjoying it, and that’s usually my sign to put it down. Wishing the author the best in future projects.

This is a secret identity, reverse age gap, dark romance with an Audiobook Voice Actor for an MMC & A goth queen, business owner FMC. It’s also much more than that. There’s stalking, suspense, shock factor, a great twist ending, satisfying epilogue and a lot of spice throughout!
Raven was a bada*s to say the least. For a majority of the book you are trying to unravel her past and who has been stalking her since she was eighteen. You know she went through something tramatic and get to see the life she fought for and built for herself despite whatever she had gone through. She’s tough because she had to be, hardening herself and throwing everything into her work. Her only true respite is audiobooks with the alluring narrator, Zander Kane.
Ryan, aka Zander, has always been short on love. His parents disowned him and although he had his fair share of women, none of them lasted. His moniker & alter ego was created to remedy just that. “Zander” gave him what he craved, an outlet, a place to feel desired. And it worked just fine, until he met Raven. The woman who consumed his entire being. He is a man obsessed 😍
The spice in this was Dom/Sub, kink filled, very spicy and their chemistry was 🔥 Their dynamic was entrancing and made me want to both finish AND savor the story.
There was a nice balance in the storyline between the plot and the main dark romance theme. Making this a great debut for sure! I’m excited to see what Wrenna writes next!🖤
This concept was so cool!!!! Voice kinks? Hell yeah man A book narrator who favors dark romance and fantasy? Obsessed Also the twist at the end? I did NOT see that coming, wowza Ryan? Zander? I love him
I had the chance to beta read this book and it is fresh in the dark romance book world. I loved that the characters were not starry eyed and fresh in their respective professions, they supported each other’s work, and respected each other. The kink level was done just right and though the plot twist was pretty obvious in the end, it was necessary, and I think made the characters that much more believable and their stories that more complex and intertwined. I will revisit this review once the book releases and I am able to reread its finished state
"Moniker" is the first installment in the "Dark Voices" series.
Raven is the successful owner of her financial firm, Lovelace, and is a workaholic. Her work overwhelms her every day with no time with no social life, but she does have one guilty pleasure: listening to audiobooks narrated by one voice in particular. Zander Kane (aka Ryan). He's a forbidden fruit, something she shouldn't be craving because he's her client! Ryan is one of the most popular, sought-after voice actors but fears it may not last forever. After a phone call with her, his financial adviser, his interest peeks in a way that it shouldn't. Meanwhile, she recognises him immediately. His own obsession sparking for her isn't helping. And when something from her past threatens to turn her world upside down, how will she deal with it? What happens when the lines between professionalism and improper blur?
Raven is our FMC. A career driven and smart, sassy, and independent woman. I appreciate discovering that she's an approachable boss, someone who actually gets to know her employees. Also, the way she handles what life throws at her is admirable, knows her worth, and goes for it. She does have some raw and vulnerable moments as well, which proves that in the end, no matter how strong and unbreakable she tries to appear, she is still flawed and it's OK to let go. A very kind, sweet, generous person, as she also supports her parents, but is guarded because of past experiences with other people.
Ryan/Zander is our MMC. He's a recluse/homebody who works from home instead of having a social life like most 25 year olds. Despite how well many women throw themselves at him online, he does have insecurities. His background tugs at your heart, especially regarding his upbringing with his parents. Hence, he believes that he's unlovable and unworthy. My heart! Using the talent of his voice acting, he uses it to his advantage to make some money. A simple and ordinary guy really, yet also has a unhinged, playful side under those carefully concealed layers that come out with Raven.
Now, the reverse age gap is refreshing, and the way their connection evolves from the virtual world to the real world feels organic (Psst! And not before he does some cyber-stalking of his own!) The character growth is brilliant shown over time. Their romance and spice are addictive, full of chemistry, and relentlessly daring. A relationship doesn't feel forced or rushed either. I love them as a couple.
I've been dying to get my hands on this book because I haven't read a concept like this! Needless to say, I enjoyed it so much. It's written very well: it's smooth and easy to follow with page-turner intrigue. Although it does start off a little slowly for the first couple of chapters before it becomes fast-paced. Of course, the world building is described wonderfully: it's immersive and exciting. Now, the plot-twist at the end made me gasp. What a fantastic debut by Wrenna King. I LOVED IT. (I wonder if Mia - Raven's work colleague - and her controlling boyfriend might make a return in a future installment...)
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat! If you like a dark, forbidden romance that goes from virtual-to-IRL, emotional moments and angst, yearning and mutual obsession, mystery and suspense, secret pasts and mystery, strong spice and mask play, and more, then this one is for you. Releasing on the 13th of March! TBR it!
They were obsessed with each other ... Since chapter three. By chapter eight, he already wanted to fuck her "until I was branded into her mind and soul" because, ofc, she’s "different from any other woman". First things first: I originally didn’t want to rate this book. I even messaged the author’s PA with a few questions, but after more than 24 hours without a reply, I can safely say that I tried. I knew what I was signing up for when I applied for the ARC. I might not listen to many audiobooks since my English listening skills aren’t great, but I do listen to ASMR almost every night before bed. Sometimes even the spicy ones. So I’m not exactly new to the voice acting world. My problem is ... I didn’t expect the instalove to hit this aggressively. Reading about how insanely horny these two had me physically cringing. Someone pls pls send help. 😭 What’s worse than instalove? Well ... Instalove before the characters have even met 👁️👄👁️ No, it’s not a penpal situation. That would at least be forgivable. The FMC, Raven, who describes herself as Morticia Addams coded, is a financial advisor. I appreciate that the author wanted to portray an independent career woman, but I have to be honest: Raven’s introduction was painfully dull. She didn’t hook me at all. She’s so devoted to her job she’d probably be Mr. Krabs’ dream employee replacing Squidward. Her only personality trait outside of work seems to be listening to audiobooks narrated by a voice actor named Zander Kane. And surprise (!!!), her client, Ryan Mitchell, is actually the man behind the Zander Kane pseudonym :)) She recognizes him from their very first conversation, which made me wonder if Raven’s hobby might be a little ... Ughh, unhealthy 😬 But wait!!! It's okay because Ryan also becomes instantly obsessed with her because of her voice. He even admits he got turned on during their first phone call, and I was like, WHAT???? I can somewhat understand Raven (okay, not really 🙂), but Ryan’s obsession felt completely forced. When you break it down, their relationship foundation is basically this: she melts because of his voice, and he loses his mind because of her looks. That’s it. That’s the ✨ romance ✨ And before they even meet, before Raven even knows what he looks like, they’re already fantasizing about each other. And yuup, they’re masturbating about it 😰 I'm scared you guys. I’m can't imagine what they’d do if they ever met their favorite celebrities 💀 Even Ryan admits it: — "I knew little about her and had only seen one photo, and yet I was obsessed with the dark-haired woman." Yes. Exactly. That’s the problem. Did the author genuinely expect readers to root for a couple whose chemistry is built entirely on vibes, hormones, and phone calls??? I’m seriously curious why everything was rushed like this. This isn’t a novella, it’s a 400 page book. So why does Ryan start calling Raven "my sneaky girl" in chapter six? Why is the FMC, a supposedly successful businesswoman, acting like a teenager who uses work as an excuse to call her crush? Attraction can be shown in SO many better ways 😔 Honestly, I got nervous about what would happen once they actually met, which is why I quit around 23%. Also, the writing started feeling bloated. Everything was over explained. The characters’ tragic backstories and family dynamics were mostly told, clearly aiming to make readers feel sympathy. It didn’t work for me. You know what? I have a favorite ASMR artist whose content I really enjoy. She’s gorgeous and has a voice that could probably rival Orpheus himself. Even her weird alien examination videos make me giggle. But not once have I ever thought about her in a sexual way. And trust me, I love women. But maybe that’s just me?? Maybe some people, like Raven and Ryan, who are written to be 32/25, simply have such catastrophic hormone levels that hearing a voice immediately short circuits their brains. Who knows 🤔 Perhaps a nice medical professional could help with that. I wish them both a speedy recovery 👍
Wrenna King truly made an entrance with this debut. From the first chapter, I was completely hooked—and I stayed that way until the very last page.
Raven Lovelace is the powerhouse behind Lovelace Financial, confident, sharp, and fully in control of her career. When a new client reaches out about investing the growing income from his rising narration career, she recognizes something instantly—his voice. Ryan Mitchell, better known to listeners as Zander Kane, is a dark romance audiobook narrator whose tone alone could melt headphones. What neither of them expects is that a simple professional call will spiral into something intensely personal.
It doesn’t take long for Raven to connect the dots and realize her new client is the very narrator whose work she devours. And Ryan? He quickly discovers that his newest online follower—the one clearly affected by his voice—is none other than his financial advisor. From there, the tension snaps tight.
Ryan leans into the dynamic, sending private voice notes that blur every professional boundary. There’s a commanding edge to his messages that Raven finds impossible to ignore. What starts as playful temptation escalates into something far more consuming. The chemistry ignites early, and the heat does not let up. If you love a story where the spice is bold and unapologetic, this one absolutely delivers.
Beyond the steam, though, there’s substance. Both Ryan and Raven carry baggage they’d rather keep buried. Ryan’s guarded nature and tendency toward isolation make sense as layers begin to peel back. Raven, for all her boss energy and composure, has shadows from her past creeping closer. When Ryan makes a decision to dig into her history by hiring a PI, the fallout threatens to dismantle everything they’ve built. The emotional stakes rise fast, and the domino effect that follows keeps the pages turning.
I especially loved the reverse age gap element—it added an extra spark to their already electric dynamic. Watching their connection shift from virtual fascination to real-world intensity felt organic and deliberate. The teasing, the power play, the vulnerability that slowly surfaces beneath it all—it was layered in a way that made their relationship feel earned rather than rushed.
And I have to mention the playlist. I’m usually someone who skips those at the beginning of a book, but this one pulled me in. The song choices mirrored the emotional beats of the story so well that it genuinely enhanced the experience.
Ryan might start off distant and carefully contained, but once Raven becomes his focus, his attention is unwavering. And Raven? She’s ambitious, intelligent, and fully aware of what she wants—even if that includes a slight obsession with a certain voice. Their push and pull felt intentional, charged, and addictive.
Between the forbidden professional connection, mask play, virtual-to-IRL tension, unexpected twists, and emotionally charged backstory reveals, this book checks a lot of boxes. It’s a fresh spin on familiar tropes, packed with heat and heart.
If this is what Wrenna King can do in a first novel, I can’t wait to see where she goes next.
4.5 ⭐️ First, thank you so much to R&R book tours and author Wrenna King for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Now let’s start the review… WHOLY FUCKIN BALL!!!!! This book was soooo sexy 😂 it was my first time reading a book where the voice kink is a thing and damn, I was not expecting it to be this hot!! But also, who never thought about what some voice authors look like in real life…. I know I have hihi (kingfisher voice actor hello??)
So the book is about a business woman (Raven)who is obsessed with audiobooks, particularly audiobooks with a certain voice actor (Zander). One day, she gets a call about a new client wanting to hire her services, but when she hears his voice through the phone, she is almost certain it’s one of her favorite voice actors! Then she goes on a hunt to find out more about him and he does the same to her hihi and so the story keeps going and their obsession with each other just keeps growing. However, there is a slight issue, Raven holds a secret that could break them apart or bring them even closer.
I absolutely loved both characters, Raven is not just a brilliant business woman, but also knows what she wants and that is super important to me (honestly, no one likes a wishy washy FMC). I also loved how supportive she was towards her coworkers, I wish I had a boss like that haha. Also, shoutout to chapter 29, my jaw was ON THE FLOOR besties!!!!
Zander was the perfect balance between fuck boy and gentleman. Non consensual stuff was not his thing and is not mine either, so this was a match made in heaven in my eyes lol. The way he would move heaven and earth for my girl Raven was just so sweet. And pleeease, if there is an audiobook coming, may it be kingfisher’s voice actor!!! He would be perfect!!
I can’t forget to mention the steamy scenes, lord they were so well written (chefs kiss) and hot!!! I don’t blame Raven, I would have fallen head over heels for Zander too 😂😂
The plot itself was well paced and kept me intrigued. I was dying to know what happened to Raven, and when it was finally revealed, I was shocked!! I wish, however, that a detail was a bit different (I will put it under the spoiler alert).
‼️ This is a very steamy book, so for my spice girls, this book is for you my loves!! Also, chapter 29!! That’s all I’m gonna say 😂

If you haven’t left yet, im assuming you read the book or is just nosy like me 😂 but here we go…
My only thing for not giving this book 5 starts was because the ending was a bit anticlimactic! Why did Ravens ab**er have to be Ryan’s uncle and father???? Like, what are the odds… I think it would have been a lot more interesting if it was someone else.
There’s a scene where she bumps into a guy on the street and she was thrown aback by something odd he said. I didn’t think for a second that it could have been Ryan’s dad following her, because to me, she would have recognized him, no??
That was my only pet peeve with the story tho, I loved the rest 🫶🏻
I read Moniker by Wrenna King as an ARC and overall gave it 3 stars, with about a 4/5 on the spice scale.
One of the strongest aspects of this book is the author’s ability to capture the characters’ emotions. The story is told through multiple POVs, and the internal thoughts and feelings of the characters were written in a way that really made me feel like I was inside their heads. For a debut novel, the writing itself was very strong, and the opening chapters pulled me in immediately.
The story follows a reverse age gap romance between a 33-year-old FMC and a 25-year-old MMC, and the MMC develops an almost instant obsession after their first interaction. The beginning of the book was very page-turning, and I found myself wanting to keep reading to see where the story would go.
Readers should know going in that this book is definitely spice-forward, with several detailed and explicit scenes throughout the story.
Where the book started to lose me a bit was around the middle. As the story progressed, the relationship felt more focused on physical attraction and sexual tension rather than continued emotional development. Because of that, the character growth felt somewhat stagnant, and at times the connection between the characters came across more as obsession than fully developed love. Some of the banter between the FMC and MMC also felt a little cheesy to me during their early interactions.
There is a twist toward the end that I didn’t fully see coming, which I appreciated, but it did feel a bit rushed. Once the twist happens, the story wraps up fairly quickly within the last couple of chapters.
Overall, this is a spicy standalone romance with a HEA and a very promising debut from the author. While I wish there had been more character growth and relationship development in the second half, the writing itself was engaging, and I’m interested to see how Wrenna King continues to grow as an author.
Tropes & Elements: • Reverse age gap • Insta-love / instant obsession • Secret identity • Virtual connection → real life • Dual POV • Spice-forward romance • Standalone with HEA
This book opened my eyes to the people who give us the voices to the characters in the books we love. I'm not an audio book person but after reading this book I am more than willing to try!
I have to applaud Wrenna on her debut book. This book was more than I could have hoped for from the little snippets we got from her teasers.
I was hooked from the first paragraph and could not put this book down. There were moments of light, dark, angsty, funny, emotional, and some spicy scenes.
Raven is healing from a traumatic past and making sure that her business is successful so she can support herself as well as her parents. She is a kind and caring person who wants to see the best in people, but has seen a darker side of them that makes her cautious.
Ryan, now he is a reclusive person with hints of darkness in him. He makes his money from his voice acting and a side hustle he isn't ashamed of. He is troubled from the way his parents treated him and feeling that no one can love him because of it.
When Raven and Ryan's worlds collide they are both instantly attracted to one another based on their voices alone. Raven knows exactly who is on the phone but she has no clue what he looks like. Ryan on the other hand starts to cyber stalk her and finds out he is not only attracted to her voice but to her looks as well. Both cross lines that shouldn't be crossed but the pull is too much to resist. There was some hidden intrigue in this story that gave it that extra push to be an extra hook. I for one am a huge fan of who done it books and this one not only had the push and pull from the main couple but had some turns you would never expect the book to take. I hope there are more books like this from Wrenna so I can dive back into the written worlds she creates. Thank you so much Wrenna King and Luna Literary Management for letting me read an early copy of this book.
Rating: 3.5/5 Penguins Quick Reasons: fast paced, steamy read; believably flawed characters with mostly believable reactions; the ending seemed a bit jarring
Huge thanks to Wrenna King, Ink Feather Books LLC, and Luna Literary Management for the ARC! This review is voluntarily written and in no way impacted by this gesture.
“I think you have the wrong number.”
-- Come on, babe, take the bait.--
I rushed to text back. “I know I have the right one. I’ll be anyone you need me to be.”
Her response was immediate this time. “Hmm…can you be a serial killer because I need someone to kill this conversation.”
This read was atmospheric, dark, and gritty in all the right ways. The characters are believably flawed, and most of their reactions and actions make sense for the plot being built in these pages... though there were a few moments that made me question them. The ending, also, felt a bit jarring-- after so much build up and anticipation, it all came to a close almost too easily for me to fully be able to suspend my disbelief.
The idea of a Gothic happily ever after between an avid reader and their favorite voice actor is one I've not stumbled across in books before, and was super entertaining. The snark written throughout is on point ESPECIALLY for the dynamic these characters have, and several times I found myself snickering.
I understood why women were obsessed with these books. They were f*cking hot, but they were more than that. They were raw and beautiful in a way that easy romances weren’t. Real life wasn’t a fairy tale, and sometimes the path to your happy ending wasn’t always something from a Disney movie.
I highly enjoyed this read and would definitely recommend it to lovers of dark romance, gritty atmosphere, and snarky relationship dynamics. Do you have a voice kink, Penguins? If so, this read is for you.
This was one of my most anticipated reads for the year, and it did not disappoint. If you are looking for a dark romance with a voice actor with a secret identity and a reverse age gap, this is the book for you. I would firstly like to thank the author, Wrenna King, for the ARC. Importantly , this book does contain dark topics; please check trigger warnings before reading.
I was hooked from the start and could not put it down. This is very much a character-driven; the more we find out about the characters, the more it reveals about the plot. Reading through the book, there was so much that I did not expect to happen, and it added depth not just to the story but to the characters. I did not expect the ending to unfold the way it had; it had me thinking that it was a certain person, but I was wrong ( very wrong) . I was in shock; it had revealed so much about both the main characters' stories and made me question what I was thinking would occur at the start of the book. Overall, the story and the plot were amazing, and there were so many things I did not expect to happen.
Ryan and Raven were written amazingly; their story and each individual character were suited to the story, but showed how they each had their own struggles that they had to overcome. As we learned more about these characters, Ryan's addiction ( past), and the events Raven has been through and how they came together and healed each other. I loved seeing how Ryan would do things for Raven, and make it a safe space for her and showed that sometimes people heal in different ways. I do have to say my favourite part was when Ryan spoiled Raven the whole day after certain events. Overall, I highly recommend you read this book and pick it up on release day. Happy reading.
First, I’d like to thank Wrenna King and Luna Literary for the gifted eARC in exchange for my honest and spoiler free review of Moniker!
My Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My Thoughts: This is my first ever read by Wrenna King and let me just say that Moniker was an arc that I was the most excited to read this month! The entire premise of a book boyfriend coming to life in the form of a voice actor but make it a dark romance story, definitely captured my attention from the very beginning.
In the beginning we learn that our FMC, Raven, has had something traumatizing happen to her. It already set the tone that she had to keep her guard up when it came to trusting people and just being alone in general. Seeing her find safety in the form of her favorite voice actor set the stage for what would be a very instalove/instalust type of situation between Raven and our MMC, Ryan.
I enjoyed how they randomly happened to meet during a business transaction and seeing how Ryan became obsessed with the sound of Raven’s voice just like Raven loved Ryan’s voice actor voice definitely made for a fun little moment. Having to work together professionally but also soon started to engage in a very dark and adventurous affair of sorts made for amazing scenes that should have scared Raven but somehow made her feel safe with him just felt somewhat healing in a way. However, there are a lot of ghosts from Raven’s past that also start coming into play that throws a wrench into everything that her and Ryan have started to build with each other.
If you are in the mood for a fun, instalove dark romance between a financial advisor and a voice actor, then I think you should really give Moniker a try! I cannot wait to read more from this author in the future!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 OMG this story was SUPER HOT 🔥🔥🔥 It pulled me in right away and I was instantly hooked. I absolutely devoured this book from start to finish and quickly became completely obsessed. The writing was so vivid that everything played out like a movie in my mind, and the pacing was absolutely perfect. I loved the voice actor element of the story it was such a unique angle and it really opened my eyes to what goes into that world. It made the whole story feel even more interesting and immersive. This is a dual POV, which added so much depth to the characters and their emotions. Raven, our FMC, is an absolute badass. I loved how strong and successful she is, and learning about her past makes you root for her even more. I fell in love with her character right away. And Ryan… OMG I’m SWOONING 😍 He’s soft, sweet, and feels so safe—but he also has his own past that adds so much to his character. Watching their relationship unfold was one of my favorite parts of the book. The banter between Characters was fantastic and kept the story fun, engaging, and full of personality. And the TWIST?! I genuinely did not see it coming! Now let’s talk about the SPICE… HOLY MOLY 🔥🌶️ This book is fire. The spice is definitely there, but it never takes away from the plot. Instead, it balances the story perfectly and adds even more chemistry between the characters. This book completely exceeded my expectations, and I’m so glad I had the chance to read it. I would HIGHLY recommend this one—especially if you’re an audiobook girly 😍🎧 This was a book I didnt know i needed Thank you sooooo much Wrenna for writing this masterpiece 💕💕 I loved it 💕💕💕💕
Thank you to @lunaliterary.management and the author for the eARC!!
Okay but WHAT is better than a fictional man? The man who voices him.
As someone with a full-blown voice kink… this book had me feral. The second I heard the premise I knew it was going to ruin me and I am thrilled to report: it absolutely did.
Raven is sharp, composed, hyper-focused on success... the kind of woman who does not spiral over a man. Especially not one with a voice that could melt steel and rearrange her priorities. And Ryan? The fact that he accidentally built a career off narrating romance and then becomes the object of obsession himself? Chef’s kiss. ✨
The tension in this is addictive. The virtual flirting? Dangerous. The obsession creeping in? Delicious. The stalker-adjacent vibes mixed with emotional vulnerability? Inject it directly into my veins.
I LOVED that they exist outside of each other. They had full lives before they collided, real baggage, real ambition, real ghosts. So when everything starts unraveling, it actually hits. Their connection isn’t just lust, it feels layered, messy, intense.
And let’s talk about the spice. Equal plot to spice ratio? Yes. Backstory? Yes. Unhinged, toe-curling, voice-based tension that makes you reconsider audiobooks forever? Also yes. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
The banter made me kick my feet. The darker elements kept me locked in. And the payoff? Worth. The. Wait. 🥵
If you love obsessive energy, morally gray intensity, and a man who knows exactly how to use his voice… this one is for you.
Moniker, written by Wrenna King, is an interesting spin on a dark romance. Not only does it have a bit of suspense, but it is centered on a voice kink. I know all about voice kinks! LOL As an audiobook lover, I can totally relate to the attraction to the various seductive voices that lure you in.
The book follows Raven Lovelace and Ryan Mitchell. Raven is a successful business owner who has dedicated all her time to her financial firm. Raven has little time for much else, but she is a lover of audiobooks. Ryan Mitchell, a voice actor known as Zander Kane, has built a career on being heard and not seen. After the viral success of an audiobook, he is looking to lay down a foundation for his future. Reaching out to a popular firm, he finds himself mesmerized by the voice on the other end of the phone.
What starts off as harmless flirting leads to a two-sided obsession. Before long, they are both in a lot deeper than they thought. Dark secrets threaten to ruin it all.
I really enjoyed the book's premise - voice kink. Even though it is what fueled the book, it did not focus completely on just that. The story was fast-paced and kept me engaged. I found it more realistic than not. I think there are a lot of us out there who engage in virtual activities rather than in-person ones. I enjoyed the build-up and the twist at the end.
Thanks to Wrenna King for gifting me an eARC of Moniker. I am leaving this review voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Moniker was definitely different from what I've read when it comes to Dark Romance. It's all about voice kink and a reverse age gap (not a big age gap though). Both Raven and Ryan are attracted to a sound of a voice, aka voice kink. A bit of a forbidden romance as Ryan is Raven's client as well. Once Ryan talked to Raven, he was intrigued by her voice and looked her up. Raven in turn was attracted by his voice and thought his voice sounded familiar! There's some stalking going on, Raven feels someone has been watching her, but thought after awhile that it was Ryan with the dark games they have been starting to play together. Once Ryan finds out about Raven feeling she's been followed, he wants to find out who so hires a PI. I love how he watches over her, and goes over his insecurities to want to be with her. There's a couple of twists in the book that happens that will surprise you! The author definitely keeps the book interesting and different! I rounded this up to 4 stars for the twists and the voice kink alone! I'd have loved rather than some specific details that the characters go through, that it could have been put into a scene where they have voice s*x considering they are both into it. Or a scene in which they are together and both are blindfolded. It also leaves you wondering about Mia, Raven's coworker who has issues with her controlling bf, yet never got it addressed.... will this turn into a series then?
If a narrator’s voice has ever had you staring into the middle distance like, “yes sir… I'll be your good girl," then Moniker by Wrenna King might be your next obsession.
This clever, voice-driven romance follows Raven Lovelace. A fiercely competent finance boss who has zero time for distraction, until a certain audiobook narrator’s voice starts living rent free in her head. Enter Ryan Mitchell, the man behind the viral voice alias Zander Kane, who turns out to be far more grounded (and far more dangerous to Raven’s composure) than expected.
Raven is sharp, ambitious, and gloriously sassy, running her firm like a pro while still being hilariously flustered whenever Ryan’s voice does that thing (Cough Joe Arden, Cough, Teddy Hamilton, cough Jason Clarke) Ryan, meanwhile, is confident enough to weaponise his voice, but genuine enough to make the slow-burn connection feel real rather than performative.
What makes Moniker stand out is its playful yet surprisingly intense focus on the power of voice. The chemistry builds through conversations, pauses, and tension that practically hums off the page. Add in a dash of mystery, a few emotional ghosts from the past, and a romance packed with sass, angst, and yearning, and you get a story that’s both addictive and refreshingly original.
Equal parts witty, steamy, and emotionally sharp, Moniker proves one simple truth: sometimes the most dangerous book boyfriend… is the guy reading him aloud. 🎧📖🔥
This book had me in my feelings like I went feral and had to message. Other people who I knew said that they had the arc read and I sat there and I blew up their phones. When I say I went feral went feral. This book was amazing. It was twisting and it was turning and there were things that I didn't think would actually happen and then you're getting to the end and then there's a bomb drop and I'm like what no yes no yes no. This book just sucked me in and I mean literally sucked me in and I'm sitting there and I'm like yelling and screaming at the two that I know that have our credit and I'm sitting there and I'm like screaming at him and yelling at them. It was an amazing read. If you have a chance to read it, definitely worth it. This author had me on the edge of my seat with the will. They won't they. Will they be happy? Will he say what he means? Will they do this? Will they do that? Oh I mean like literally it was like what's going to happen next after every chapter. That did not just happen after certain ones. And this book is very heavy and spice. Like I mean I couldn't have asked for a book with more spice. I feel like there was so much spice that I was like. Is that even a possible position? Like how did you do that and not hurt each other. You just have to read it in order to understand how I'm feeling.
arc review - I want to give this a 4.5 this was actually goood I see that this author has potential i see what she was trying to do i have never read anything with these tropes but i think i unlocked something with this and I will read any book from this author moving forward. This “As she cried in the dark against me, I didn't want to take her emotions away. I wanted her to feel everything so she could work through it, but I wanted to help her. I wanted to be someone she could show her weaknesses to without fear of appearing weak. She was anything but weak” had me gone but I love the characters I love the mmc ryan aka zander he was something no words can describe how much I love this man he knows how to be a real man and he actually care about emotions and how the fmc raven was feeling he was really protective over her bc he really had a messy childhood and try to overcome it and do something with his life and with raven the fmc well she was something even tho she had her own struggles she try to mange and to become something and wanted to do something out there and she kinda did but yk the past will always come back to you and that what happened to her but she managed to face it but in the end they both challenged and moved on from it but overall this was really well done and can’t wait for more.

Raven Lovelace owns her own financial firm, & when she gets a call from a new client, there’s something about his voice that she recognises.
Ryan Mitchell (aka Zander Kane) is a dark romance narrator, who is looking to invest some of his money now his career is kicking off. His call to Lovelace Financial sets about a series of events neither Ryan or Raven are prepared for.
Raven is a clever cookie, & it doesn’t take her long to figure out that Ryan is Zander, the narrator she loves to listen to. & once she’s made the connection, it doesn’t take Ryan long to figure out his newest follower is none other than his new financial advisor.
Ryan sets about making Raven his, sending her voice notes with instructions which she is helpless to defy. As things progress between the two; it’s clear there are demons in the past that neither particularly want to share. But when Ryan hires a PI to find out about Raven’s past, the dominoes that fall as a result leave their relationship hanging in the balance.
This book has it all. Sexy voice actor ✔️ Reverse age gap ✔️ virtual to IRL ✔️ mask play ✔️ forbidden relationship ✔️
Massive thanks to the author for an ARC of this work!
“I haven’t ever given much thought to what goes into narration. From the looks of all this stuff, it seems much more complex than I thought.”
I couldn’t put this down, and loved the nuances of a romance involving a voice actor! I found Ryan’s character so interesting as an audiobook lover myself, and enjoyed watching him connect with Raven due to his book narrator work.
Raven is a strong, resilient FMC with a beautiful relationship with her parents. Overall, I found her blossoming relationship with Ryan beautiful and seeing them both let down their walls was so fun to watch.
The speed of this felt a little choppy in that we see a lot of incredible moments when it comes to their relationship development, but that leaves other aspects of the plot feeling less developed (the supervillain moment, Ryan’s relationship with his parents, Raven’s backstory, Mia and her boyfriend, etc.). I think the author does a good job giving us most of the direct info in conversations, but I wish that part of the story had been shown instead of told.
Overall though, I absolutely loved this book, and I will absolutely be listening if it ends up in an audio format (and I sure hope it does)!! 🎧
I’ve been so fucking excited for Moniker since I saw Wrenna’s post for ARC readers! This had everything I wanted it to and more. I love my dark romance with humor. Give me laughs with my trauma and tears, please🙏🏼
•Voice kink •Reverse age gap •Stalking •Audiobook Narrator x Fan •Secret identity •Virtual -> IRL •Forbidden Romance •Opposites Attract
I’m usually a cuck chair reader, but the FMC having my name took me straight back to my Y/N days😂 Raven is a gothic financial QUEEN. She also happens to have an absolutely horrid and traumatic past, but is a total badass that can defend herself now.
Zander is a CATCH! He’s reclusive, humble (when it matters), and completely stalker-level obsessed with his biggest audiobook fan! Their romance developed so smoothly with their chemistry constantly mixing. “Limit?” Not yet, try again type shiiiiit😍
I didn’t see the twist coming at all! It completely blew me away, and to say that I was stressed about the outcome was an understatement. I’m so attached to these characters and the story Wrenna King created. I’d give just about anything for a Dark Voices book about Mia next🥹
Thank you so much to the author and Luna Literary for the gifted copy!
Thank you for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Moniker tells the story of Raven: a kick ass, independent, strong woman who runs her own business and leaves little time for anything else, except listening to sexy audiobooks. Alongside her, we meet Ryan, a voice narrator with many secrets. Between them we, as the reader, are pulled into a world shrouded in mystery, betrayal and the darker, more secretive side to sex.
What I liked about this book was how the less talked about aspects of sexual interaction and intimacy were thrown to the surface. This book is a very different kind of love story, one where all forms of sex and connection are laid bare for the reader to consider, and rightly with no shame.
As a lover of audiobooks I found parts of the book unsettling and disturbing (in a very good way that made me want to find out what happened next!)
For me, I would have liked to see the ending stretched out with a bit more tension as the book very much paved the way for a thrilling conclusion. Personally I felt the ending came too swiftly, but that is only my opinion and certainly didn't change my enjoyment of the book.
Would recommend Moniker to any lover of audiobooks, romance, thrillers or unconventional romance.
My genuine gratitude to Team Luna & Wrenna King for my advanced copy of this book!
My first impression going into this was the question, "what if your book boyfriend was real, and he was the voice actor who played him?" and immediately I knew that I had to read it. From the second I got hold of Moniker, I flew through it, because I just couldn't put it down.
Raven is a high powered, self-made business woman who never stopped channeling her goth phase and wears a knife on her thigh (hot), and Ryan is a audiobook voice actor with the hottest voice ever. It just so happens they become mutually obsessed with each other in a quick and fun read that explores not only their relationship, but the way different, difficult upbringings can impact how you view your future.
Every chapter ended and I just had to know more. By the time I got to the last chapter, I audibly heard myself going, "no, this can't be the end of it!" Because I just needed more. (There's just something about a woman and a knife, iykyk.) I was so excited to get my hands on this early and I already can't wait for the next book! 🖤
