All of her friends know her as Dana Darling, the clean romance writer. She's never written a steamy novel, not even in her head, but now her publisher needs her to write one. It doesn't appear too difficult at first, but then Dana's lack of sexual knowledge creates writer's block.

That's where her friend Landon comes in. She needs pointers on positions and dirty talk, and he owes her a favor. "I thought this was Sex Positions 101"

All of her friends know her as Dana Darling, the clean romance writer. She's never written a steamy novel, not even in her head, but now her publisher needs her to write one. It doesn't appear too difficult at first, but then Dana's lack of sexual knowledge creates writer's block.

They agree that it's strictly business and clothes are mandatory, but once they get to work, it's another story entirely... one that's being written between the sheets and not on paper.

I loved the idea of a positions partner, it gave life to the overplayed "friends with benefit" scenario, but the difference is that they only have one night and they have their clothes on.
"Most of sex is the foreplay-the words and caresses and everything leading to the finale."

"That seems a little more...intimate."

"It's supposed to be...I just want to be through in my training. What you feel will be what you describe when you write."

Reading on as the fight their needs and desires was just as arousing then the deed itself. Landon and Dana are both writers, so it's not your typical dirty talk...
I've never been with a man who had the vocabulary and knew how to use it.

He takes her on a sexual journey, educating her on the benefits of each position, their need grows until it is too late. And with one night only they give them selves over to their lust and enjoy the night. But what happens when the night is through...
"That's full-on, pure 'wanted it all along' disguised as research."

More Than Words is a quick hot read, that was the perfect length to not make it drag but to get the point across. It is sometimes hard with novella's because you have such a short amount of time and space to form a connection with the characters and feel something. I can't say there was a strong connection between me and the characters, but I got where they were coming from and I felt their emotions as they spoke. As expected it was predictable, but I was okay with that because it didn't take away from me enjoying the novella. Did I wish more time was spent exploring the positions, of course, by that is just me. Perfect bedtime read or if your in the mood for a quickie.

HOT! HOT! HOT! I love this novella - it is perfection! Dana and Landon are both writers. Dana needs help writing erotica and has only ever had sex in the missionary position. She asks her writing friend Landon for his help. This was incredibly sexy and was a really good story. This is how a standalone novella should be written - a short, complete story that leaves the reader satisfied. I loved this and highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a sexy, hot, short story! Fantastic!!!!

Dana Darling and Landon Sinclair are writing buddies. Their friendship feels so real and natural. When Dana is asked to write an erotic fiction she is at a loss. Her inexperience may halt this professional opportunity. Landon agrees to become her ‘research’ buddy. Will this be one night of research or will it become more? It truly is a fun, flirty and sexy novella. Wonder what is next for Dana and Landon? Can’t wait for the next installment. Lilly Avalon does not disappoint her readers. Most enjoyable!

This review was originally posted on One Curvy Blogger
More Than Words turned out to be one of those short stories that drew me because of the theme, rather than the real writing. I’m not sure why, but I’m a huge fan of romance novels featuring writers, so I tend to greedily grab them up and beat myself up afterward or (jump for joy, depending on how it went. Duh). Unfortunately, this book really did nothing for me, besides put me in a reading funk. It’s a short story of 49 pages, and yet I couldn’t finish it. That tells you how much I enjoyed it.

Dana, a clean romance novelist, has written for Gravity Lit for over three years. Her boss tossed an assignment in her lap that she is not ready for – she must write a 40-50k erotic romance story in two weeks. How can she possibly write a story filled with hot sex, when her own experience has never been very pleasant?

The premise of More Than Words is right up my alley, so it caught me off guard when I realized there was zero connection for me. I didn’t particularly become attached to the characters, and I could honestly care less what happens to them. . . How am I supposed to finish a book when I don’t have any interest in it?

The first problem I had, which could account for the zero connect between the characters and I, was the stilted writing. It might have to do with the lack of complex sentences, but to be completely honest, I haven’t looked into the reason for the disconnect. I just wanted to be done with the book, and move on to something that will wow. Unfortunately for me, More Than Words did the complete opposite, so I decided to move on to better books, instead of wasting my time reading something I get no pleasure from. If anybody else read this, and had a better experience, let me know in the comments below! I’d love to hear your opinion of the book. :]

I have been in love with the writings of Lilly since well shoot her very first book. This is my 3rd book by her and my 2nd favorite (Resist won me over) .

This story is about Dana who is a talented writer but is tasked to write a little erotica to fill in for a writer. Before the story Dana has only been with 2 men and only in the missionary position. She asks her friend for lessons and what transpires is a lot of sex and orgasms.

I really love the banter between Dana and her friend Ivy… I love Ivy’s demeanor. Dana ends up writing the sexy novel of the year and wins the postion of the “next Jamie Oliver “ So now she can write sex stories as Jamie and love stories as Dana. But now she just needs Landon back… for more than research

“ How what happened between us was more than words written for a story I had to write. “

“ I want you forever. I want to spend every waking moment by your side- writing in this coffee shop during the day and between your sheets at night “
I love a good romance from the friendzone to the sexzone. Lilly made these 50 pages cute and delicious.,

This was a short sensual novella. That shows how the simple act of doing touching and dirty words can bring two people.

Dana is a clean writer that is has been tasked to write some smutty romance. Dana is worried about this request because she writes what she knows, and clean romance is all she knows.

The inability to have hot, orgasmic sex is Dana, 100%. This is not all her fault, 98% of this is due to the partners she has had. To write this book, she will need a teacher and get educated on the ways of bedroom or Sexual Positions 101.

Dana asks her writing friend and fellow new author, Landon, to help with the tutoring session(s).

I have to admit that this short, through me for a quick, detailed, thorough read. I like the naivety of Dana and the calm teachings of Landon. If you look really deep this is a hot teacher/student session that gets physical.

The books called More than Words and it is true to it’s title. I found that it wasn’t so much about the written word but about the unspoken words. The beginning teachings of Landon are not receptive to what Dana needs. When he amps up the teaching from a walk through to play action, well we go from words to incomplete incoherent vowels and heavy breathing.

I must admit I like Landon’s stamina and gusto. He gives the sexual education that Dana needs and has needed for sometime.

Happy reading.

Dana Darling is known for her clean sweet romances so when her editor asks her to write an erotica for double the pay she accepts, but she needs help with the sex scenes cause she only had bad experience in missionary and nothing else. So she asks her friend, Landon, to help her learn the other positions for her book. What started out as research quickly turned to more when hidden feelings came out, however when the night was over and she woke up the next morning, she was alone. Now she finished her book but she misses Landon, they haven't talked since that night and she is afraid that not only has she lost her friendship but her chance at happiness. Will she have the courage to confront him and show him her love or will she lose him for ever?
This was a good short story about love, friendship, and self discovery. I enjoyed it and think you will too. Lilly really knows what she's doing when it comes to friends becoming more.

My Rating:

4.5

Favorite Quotes:

Landon is the iconic boy from next door. The one that you rode your bike around the neighborhood with. Stopping periodically for the ice cream truck and scrounging up all the change in your pockets to split a Popsicle.

So you’re asking me to be your pretend sex partner with clothes on.

My eyes close, and a sound I’ve never heard before comes out of my mouth. It’s like a cross between a squeal and a moan. It’s very primal and unlike me.

Everything I’m feeling unravels like a ribbon from a spool when I realize he left without saying goodbye.

My Review:

A quick and saucy little diversion. A tasty treat to read and enjoy while indulging yourself with a free afternoon. This author has an easy way with words and brings a smile to my face and a smirk to my mouth. Well written, entertaining, believable, and humorous.

Dana is already known for her pure, clean romance writing. In this book, her publisher kicks it up a notch - asking her to save them by writing a hotter, sexier book!

Dana is stumped and dazed at the same time. She is grateful for the opportunity, but sad she does not have enough experience to fulfill the challenge.

When her publisher will not take no for an answer....what's a writer to do? Call in another writer, that's who. Dana's writing buddy Landon comes riding to her rescue.

The research they work on is hot and intense. Could they have feelings for one another? Is it too soon?

Really good book, I found to be a nice, quick read.

More Than Words is hands down my favourite of Lilly Avalon’s books. It’s laugh-out-loud funny, cute, and sexy.

Dana had a great voice - very funny and fresh. Landon…oh Landon. Can I have you please? He was so sweet and swoony, and let’s just say I wouldn’t mind having a lesson or two from him. ;-) These two had great chemistry; the build up and anticipation was SO hot and had me flipping the pages of my Kindle as quickly as I could.

A lot of times with novellas, you’re left wanting more, but I was completely satisfied with More Than Words. I rooted for the characters, swooned, fanned myself, and then let out a happy sigh at the end. I can’t wait for Lilly’s next story!

I knew when I was given this arc of More Than Words that I was in store for a sweet, sexy, romantic ride. I love the way Lilly Avalon writes. When you can make two completely different people fall in love so perfectly, you know you're reading something amazing. I enjoyed the idea of a erotica novelist trying to write something she has no clue about! When she gets hot Landon to simply "show" her some dirty (in a good way) moves Dana's entire world gets turned upside down. If you like romance or erotica... Never mind if you like READING BOOKS, you will love this one!

I'm not a huge novella fan because I don't enjoy the feeling of getting started and being left incomplete but this story does not do that. Dana and Landon have a chemistry that was just perfect. I love how the story unravels and how complete it felt, despite the fact that it's a novella. I totally a fan of this author and this "taste" was just what I needed.

This was a steamy short story that just whets your appetite for the rest of the series.

Dana Darling is a contemporary romance writer, but her writing is PG at most. She writes amazing romances, but the sex in her stories is absent. When her publisher tells her that she has to write an erotic romance, she reluctantly agrees. The kicker is that she has to get it written in 2 weeks and she has little experience in the bedroom. A friend suggests that she ask a friend to teach her the ropes, but Dana can't even think of who she would ask. When her writing buddy Landon messages her, she's had just enough to drink to make the suggestion to him with the rule that it must be over clothes. He hesitates, but ends up accepting the offer. What she doesn't expect is for him to seduce her physically and emotionally. After the best night of her life, she thinks they could make something real happen between them. When she wakes up the next morning and he's gone, she doesn't know what that means for their friendship or possible budding relationship. Did Landon only want Dana physically or is he unsure of her feelings too? Is Dana able to get the erotic novel written?

Landon was smart, sexy and sweet. I can't wait to hear more about him in this series. Dana hasn't had the best luck with men, but she isn't closed off to something real. There isn't anything suspenseful in this story. It's a quick read that just leaves you wanting more. The teaching scenes were pretty steamy and it made me wish I had a Landon in my life when I was younger. My only complaint is the length. I wanted more and I don't like to wait. Book 2 in this series is expected to come out in 2015, but you can start the series with More than Words for only 99 cents right now.

~~~Kims Review~~~
I received an ARC of this novel to read for an honest review.
Meet Dana Darling 'clean' romance writer, as she meets her biggest book challenge yet... To write a steamy romance!
I felt so bad for poor Dana she has little experience when it comes to expertise in the bedroom. Now we meet the hero in this Novella, Landon with the sexy body and eyes. Landon is a fellow writer and a good friend to Dana. He decides to help her out with a personal sex positions 101 class. I loved this story, my face was burning with embarrassment for the woman! Its filled with humour and sexiness!
I've given this story 4stars purely because it just wasn't long enough for me! I need more Dana and Landon! Fingers crossed the Author writes more about the two characters!
~~~Sarah's Review~~~

This was a super cute and easy read! Dana is an inexperienced writer who needs to come up with some steamy material for a new book and her best friend Landon jumps at the chance to help her! Landon was so sweet and patient with insecure Dana. It was great to watch Dana gain some confidence and go after what she wanted. The novella was somewhat predictable and occasionally i found the dialogue to be awkward. There were a few times when the scenes between Landon and Dana were strained. However, the chemistry was undeniable. Landon was also a great example of how patience pays off in the end. And the "research?" Whew! Off the charts! Looking forward to reading more by this author!

first things first I love the title to this book and once reading it, there couldn't be a more suitable title.

This is a hot sweet romantic novella.
we have sweet little Dana darling who writes sweet little romance stories, one day she gets a call from Jamie at the publishing house calling her in. It's an emergency. one of the authors has missed the deadline and has quit they need someone to ghost write and who better than the talented Dana darling, oh there's a catch it's not a sweet romance it's more of a hot romance in the world of dirty talk and sex.
Dana hasn't got much experience so she calls in her writer friend Landon to teach her in the name of research.

I really liked Landon he's the boy next door character who turned out to be a hottie under the clothes but he's also a goofball, he's funny and he is so sweet towards Dana you can't help but love him. brilliant lead male character.

Dana is loveable you can't help but feel sorry for her as the two men she was in a relationship before with sound as exciting as watching paint dry. I loved Dana in the last chapter when she just puts it out there that she wants Landon for real this time plus the publishing house want her to continue with the erotica books so she wants Landon for more lesson this time as a real couple :)

only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is cause I wished the book was a bit longer and I would have liked to have seen bit more of ivy and her straight up talking, think it would have been a very funny and interesting conversation between Dana, Landon and ivy over drinks, just a little more interaction from the characters outside the bedroom.

My short synopsis:

Dana is a writer that is given an assignment to write about a subject that she doesn’t have very much knowledge of…SEX! She is not a virgin, but she may as well be with the limited experience she has. With Landon, she finally understands what she has been missing out on all along.

Landon is Dana’s writing buddy. It doesn’t take him very long to agree to help her with her research. What starts off as a somewhat innocent lesson, quickly becomes much more. With his passionate touch and sexy words, he sets Dana on fire and brings out the tigress that he was hoping was trapped below the surface.

Can a relationship that begins with a passionate night of research really turn into forever? Looks like an HEA to me!

My thoughts:

This novella was sweet, sexy and very well written. The plot was unique and I connected with these characters right away. I was immediately routing for them to come together and allow the chemistry to take control.The author does a great job of packing in a variety of aspects to the story without it feeling rushed or over the top.

I recommend this to anyone looking for a quick, sexy and passionate read.

"More than Words" is a novella written by Lilly Avalon, and it can be read as a stand-alone story. It features writing buddies. Dana Darling and Landon Sinclair.

Dana is a romance writer. She is given the opportunity by her publisher to write a manuscript under the name of Juliet Oliver after the previous ghostwriter quits. There's just one problem. Dana is not that experienced when it comes to sex. She's had 2 boyfriends, but she's only done missionary. Her romance stories are clean cut. The sex scenes don't go into detail. How will she be able to write hot sex scenes as Juliet Oliver if she doesn't have the experience?

Enter Landon Sinclair. Landon has always liked Dana. When she asks him to help her with dirty talk and sex positions, he's all for it. This is strictly research, right? Will the clothes remain on? Will they give in to their feelings for one another? How will the publishers like Dana's manuscript?

I normally have a love/hate relationship when it comes to novellas because it can be too rushed in such a short story. However, I have nothing, but praise for "More than Words"! Lilly Avalon wrote a unique novella that had me finishing this story in one sitting! What an enjoyable read! I really hope Dana and Landon will have a full-length book next time!

My Review: I really loved this story, it was a light, steamy and quick read. I really enjoyed the concept of the story about need to research for a novel. It is a short story that you can read in one sitting, which normally leaves the reader wanting more, but this one completely fulfills. You aren't left wondering at backstory or with unresolved questions, you would certainly like more time with the characters but you are still satisfied with the ending.

More Than Words, gave me a quick, satisfying read that wasn't full of unnecessary scenes or fillers, which are only there to add to the word count. This novella is full of sexy times and sweet words, that will have you smiling from ear to ear. Of course, some of the scenes will leave you with more of a dirty smile, than anything, but hey, a smile is still a smile.

This tempting book, revolves around Dana and Landon. Both are writers and both consider each other a good friend. Dana normally writes the small town, sweet, romances....the one's without the sex and dirty talk. Her editor needs her to go to the dark side and write an erotic story. The only problem, is that Dana has no inspiration or much experience. Enter Landon. He's just the man to help her out.

I definitely recommend giving this book and this author a chance. The writing was impeccable, the characters were lovable and amusing, the sex was steamy, and the romance was sweet. Exactly what I love in a book!

More Than Words is the story of Dana, a romance writer, whose writing skill is put to the test when her editor requires her to ghost write an erotic story. Having only had boring boyfriends and bedroom experiences before, she recruits her friend and fellow writer, Landon, to help widen her experience and really give her something to write about.
This was a fairly good, easy read. I quite liked Dana as a character and you could understand her plight, especially when she propositions Landon for help after a few drinks and some egging on from her friend. I did think that the romance part of the story came a little out of nowhere at the end of the story though, especially as Landon is so detached through most of the story that I couldn't really get his big passionate moment at the end. Still, they make a cute couple and the sex scenes were fairly hot so it's all good.
A good, quick erotic story if you're looking to pass an hour or two. 4 stars.

A short but entertaining novella about a young, up and coming writer who needs to do research of the sexual kind. And who better to help than your fellow writer and critique partner? So More Than Words was a surprisingly good story despite the length (although this is going to be done into a series). Dana and Landon had the friendship vibe going on really well when Dana finds herself in the position of having to write something out of her comfort zone, namely sex in different positions and with accompanying dirty talk. She can't write from experience so the next best thing is research with a trusted friend. When Landon heard about Dana's predicament he was a little bit leery of the consequences but pretty soon these two were getting really, really into it. The sex scenes sizzled and was more into the build up rather than the all graphic details most erotica tend to have. But even so More Than Words delivered and hit all the right notes for a cute romance erotica.

MORE THAN WORDS is a perfect combination of cute and sexy. When I first started reading, I didn’t want to stop, and I would have finished it in one night if I wasn’t exhausted.

Using “research” as a way to further the connection between Dana and Landon is such a good way to set up their relationship and make the ending (and events between the beginning and end) believable. I really liked that Landon was so caring, and that he wanted Dana to have good experiences. I don’t usually swoon when reading romance, but I liked Landon a lot! He’s the perfect guy for anyone who likes to write, because hey, who doesn’t love creative pillow talk?

This was a nice spin for a book. Dana Darling is a published author and asked to finish an erotica story that was already started by another. She whips through the story, the only problem being that she doesn't know how to write sexily. Heck she's never even really had a sexy relationship!
So after a week of not knowing what the heck to do she enlists the help of a friend...in walks Landon. She entices his help to teach her things other than plain ole missionary. Who knew what sparks would fly, and that non sex, sex could be so much fun.
This was quirky and cute and really short. I read it in about an hour. The perfect read to take with you to the doctors office since it never really gets hot and steamy...Avalon leaves that part up to your own imagination.
Overall a fun and easy read, especially for someone that doesn't have a lot of time to devote to reading, but wants a cute, feel good read!

However, the chemistry was undeniable. Landon was also a great example of how patience pays off in the end. And the "research?" Whew! Off the charts! Looking forward to reading more by this author!
