Paranoia was one heck of a ride. It grabbed me from the beginning and held me in a choke hold all the way through. Painted with a vivid brush, it is a scarily realistic look at what can happen to you if you let thoughts of revenge consume you.

Jacob is in so much pain. You just want to hold him & tell him everything will be alright. But what if that's a lie? What if nothing will ever be the same again? How far are his friends willing to go to help him & what will be the cost to them and to Jacob? Beginning to see why I had trouble putting it down? I found myself thinking about Jacob long after I finished reading his story.

Well, this is the first time I actually read a book from this genre (psychological triller), and it was breathtaking. The author plays with one of the worst fears you may ever think as a kid or teenager.

So, Jacob is an average 17 year old high-school student, until one night his life changes drastically after the killing of his parents. This event, plus the fact that he listened to his mother’s last words, made such a great impact on him that he sank into a dangerous depression and became a different person. In an effort of overcoming the tragedy, he follows his intuition of finding out the mystery about his parents death.

As you can notice in the summary, it’s a book filled with deep emotions. The main characters share such a remarkable strong bond of love and friendship that you will easily get to grow fond of.

Jacob is well-known for being a peaceful guy with an straight moral value. He isn’t a problem seeker, nevertheless, he’s not afraid to risk his life when it’s needed. It was a great choice from the author to develop the story with his point of view. When the tragedy strikes his life, you can easily witness how his world breaks down. All his thoughts, his fears, his rage and madness will be overwhelming.

Sarah is Jacob’s best friend from childhood. She’s smart and Jacob’s voice of reason. She’s one of the main elements in Jacob’s life. His love for him is admirable, and at the same time, heartbreaking.

Keith (Jacob’s other best friend), it’s the funny guy who will stand loyal by Jacob’s side ever when he needs it.

Everyone sacrificed or missed something, here. And that’s why I cannot choose a favorite character. They all were really great.

The story was well presented and very easy to follow. It was an amazing book and you know, I’m still amazed with Paranoia. The final chapter was full of drama, suspense and angst. I’m really surprised about how everything came out. I highly-recommend it! To all the future readers: you won't be disappointed!

Paranoia is a cautionary tale about revenge. It begins innocently enough with all-round nice guy, Jake, being invited to a party. What starts as a good night turns to horror as he is beaten up for stopping an attempted rape and then he hears his mum's last words after both parents are killed by an intruder. He then spends the rest of the book trying to find out who killed them.

Paranoia is aptly named. Jake has completely lost the plot in the four months following the deaths and his inner monologues are quite difficult to read. It's a fascinating read, if a little uncomfortable and the ending is quite a shocker.

The characters were quite well drawn and the situations were well written, however I did roll my eyes at some of the situations that were presented. It is a good book but not a standard read and I would caution anyone going into this book with the expectation to see a mystery solved. The puzzle of who killed Jake's parents is huge, but that isn't the focus, it's more Jake's mental state and history that is looked at here.

Good read and quite unique.

17 year old Jacob Tyler goes off to a party with one of his best friends, Keith. While there, the police show up along with Jacob’s other best friend after a strange call Jacob received from his mother where she says “Jacob, we’ll love you always”. Jacob’s parents are killed during a home invasion and his world falls apart. Four months later, Jacob’s fed up with the police department’s lack of progress and decides to launch his own investigation. However, Jacob’s thinking isn’t exactly clear…

PARANOIA exploits the reader’s darkest fears. No matter what age, you don’t want to think about your parents dying, especially not being murdered. However, the author truly captured the teenage thought-process and language in PARANOIA. It was heartbreaking to see how quickly Jacob’s life fell apart and his mental state deteriorated. Strong imagery and emotions will strike the reader deeply. PARANOIA will surprise you with its twisted ending
