"Waiting" by Vince Adams is a captivating modern retelling of the Arthurian legend that breathes fresh life into ancient myths while grounding them in contemporary settings. Adams weaves a polished tale of destiny, betrayal, and redemption against the mystical backdrop of Glastonbury Tor.

The story kicks off with an interesting prologue that immerses readers in the eerie history and legends of Glastonbury, setting the stage for a narrative where the lines between legend and reality blur. As the plot unfolds, Adams skillfully introduces elements of Arthurian lore—reincarnations, ancient rivalries, and mystical artifacts—into a modern thriller framework.

Without spoiling the intricate twists, the journey takes characters from corporate boardrooms to the fog-shrouded hills of Avalon, exploring themes of power, legacy, and the consequences of unchecked ambition.

What stands out is Adams’s deep reverence for the source material, drawing from historical figures like Gildas and Geoffrey of Monmouth while infusing the story with original, heartfelt creativity.

The prose is crisp and evocative, particularly in descriptions of Glastonbury's otherworldly atmosphere, making the setting feel alive and integral to the plot.

Overall, "Waiting" is a triumphant debut that will delight fans of fantasy, historical fiction, and suspense. It's a testament to perseverance, and a reminder that legends never truly die—they just wait for the right moment to return. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an intelligent, immersive escape.

This suspenseful book reminded me of Dan Brown’s THE DA VINCI CODE, especially in the later chapters. King Arthur is revived from a kind of suspended animation by Merlin, who has been actively monitoring for the reemergence of Arthur’s evil sister Morgana. He has also been keeping the faith alive among the descendents of Arthur’s most faithful knights. As Morgana comes back into her witchly powers, Merlin, the knights, and Arthur, who must adjust to the modern age, prepare to do battle with her. The combination of action and myth are very well done. It was a page-turner once all the pieces were in motion. I did find it a little confusing in the opening chapters as the action moved among the various characters and also to scenes in the past and present. But once I knew the characters, the book flowed along. Some of the language in those opening chapters also seemed a bit high-flown, but it all came together into an exciting tale that was an enjoyable read.
