I always loved to read and throughout my childhood I could usually be found with a book in my hands. To the disgust of my friends, I even enjoyed creative writing assignments that made them all groan. But I had other dreams besides writing. I wanted to be an actress or a teacher or a lawyer.
Life took a different turn for me, though, when my mother made me take a journalism elective in high school (thanks, Mom!). I knew the first day that this was where I belonged.
After I graduated from college in journalism, I took a job at the local daily newspaper and I reveled in the challenge and the diversity of it. One day I could be interviewing the latest country music star, the next day I was writing about local motorcycle gangs or interviewing an award-winning scientist.
Through it all -- through the natural progression of my career from reporter to editor -- I wrote stories in my head. Not just any stories, either, but romances, the kind of books I have devoured since junior high school, with tales about real people going through the trials and tribulations of life until they find deep and lasting love.
I had no idea how to put these people on paper, but knew I had to try -- their stories were too compelling for me to ignore. I sold my first book in 1995 and now, more than 30 books later, I've come to love everything about writing, from the click of the computer keys under my fingers to the "that's-it!" feeling I get when a story is flowing.
I write full-time now (well, as full-time as I can manage juggling my kids!) amid the raw beauty of the northern Utah mountains.
Even though I might not have dreamed of being a writer when I was younger, now I simply can't imagine my life any other way.

SO cute!! This cozy holiday romance was exactly what I needed right now. It delivers all the warmth, small-town charm, and sweet, uplifting feels you could want in a Christmas read.
The story follows Hannah, a compassionate music therapist whose passion is helping others. While organizing a local holiday benefit, she runs into her ex, Wes, a K9 police officer who is back in town with his loyal dog, Kodiak. Sparks fly as their second-chance romance unfolds alongside a heartwarming sunshine-meets-grump dynamic.

This was a cute and cozy Christmas romance with all the holiday feels! I enjoyed the small-town setting, the second-chance romance between Hannah and Wes, and the theme of finding your way back to the person you once loved. I also really liked the friendship and family aspects of the story, especially Hannah stepping in to help Morgan and her children.
While I enjoyed the story, I found the romance a little predictable and felt like the story moved a bit slowly in places. I also wanted a little more depth from the characters and their relationship.
Overall, this was a sweet, heartwarming holiday read with plenty of Christmas magic, but it just didn’t completely stand out for me. 🎄❤️

This is book 4 in the “Shelter Springs” series, but can definitely be read as a standalone. I haven’t read the others in the series and I had no difficulty following along.
This book follows Hannah and Wes, who previously dated over a decade prior to the story, until Wes broke Hannah’s heart and moved away. Now he’s back in town for the holidays and the story goes forward from there.
I really liked Hannah’s good heart in taking in her friend Morgan’s children for the holidays. She was a big-hearted person and did so much to make Christmas special for the kids. She was a really good friend to Morgan. Wes was somewhat closed off after an injury in the field and I liked how helping the kids helped him heal as well.
I also loved the dog Kodiak and how much Wes loved him. As a dog person, that felt really poignant to me.
There’s a slight mystery element to the plot, and though it was somewhat predictable, I really liked how it was resolved.
This book was clean, with a few mild/oblique references about the couple’s past.
With a sweet dog, cute kids, and a clean, ex-to-more romance, this was an enjoyable read.

I started RaeAnne Thayne’s Cozy Little Christmas as a tandem read and listen with my coffee, and this one felt a little extra special because I had the chance to meet RaeAnne last April at Novak’s Book Weekend. Thank you to Uplit Reads PR for the gifted book. Do you ever feel a little more connected to a story after you’ve actually met the person who wrote it?

Hannah has built a life she loves in Shelter Springs as a music therapist, surrounded by family, friends, and a community that genuinely shows up for one another. When her friend Morgan needs to leave town for cancer treatment, Hannah doesn’t hesitate to take care of her two children.
Then Wes comes home.
He’s Hannah’s first love and the man who broke her heart twelve years earlier after tragedy tore his family apart. Now he’s back temporarily with his K9 partner, Kodiak, while they both recover from injuries—and wouldn’t you know it, he’s staying right near Hannah. Because apparently Christmas wasn’t complicated enough already.
I really liked Hannah. She’s one of those people who automatically steps in when somebody needs help, even when she’s already juggling about seventeen things herself. Wes, on the other hand, frustrated me more than once. He loved Hannah, but instead of letting her help him through the worst time of his life, he pushed her away and left. Sir. We need to discuss your decision-making skills.
What I enjoyed most was that this became about more than Hannah and Wes finding their way back to each other. It’s about grief, forgiveness, friendship, family, and learning to let people help when life gets hard. Watching Shelter Springs rally around Morgan and her children was probably my favorite part.
And then there’s Kodiak. Give me a K9 recovering alongside his human and I’m invested.
Carly Robins narrated the audiobook, and this worked really well as a tandem read. I could sit with the book and my coffee and then switch to audio when I needed to get moving.

I went into this expecting a feel-good, maybe slightly emotional story, but unfortunately it didn’t work for me.
Morgan was just so selfish. The issue with her dad felt so small compared to the fact that she still didn’t reach out for her kids. Once I got to that part, I honestly couldn’t bring myself to care about Morgan or her situation anymore. She came across as petty and selfish, which made it really hard for me to sympathize with her.
There also wasn’t enough backstory or even enough of a present-day relationship between Wes and Hannah for me to really root for them.
I did like Grandpa and the dog, and surprisingly, the kids weren’t annoying so there were definitely a few bright spots.
But overall, when I’m supposed to be emotionally invested in a character and I don’t particularly like them, it’s hard for the story to land.
And for a Christmas book… where was the Christmas?!

I recently read Debbie Macomber’s “A Date with Santa” which was also great – I made a comment that I was sure it was going to be a Hallmark 2027 Christmas story.
I feel the same about this story. However, I believe it would be better as a series. The story has a message and although I didn’t realize it until well into the story but the message is throughout. My idea of it being a series is that story could go deeper into the lives of the main characters.
~Elaborate on Hannah and Wes as young lovers attend two different colleges in two different states.
~More details on the robbery and of course
~more details on Morgan’s background with her husband.

They can see what the couple is still struggling to acknowledge the connection between them never really disappeared. Watching their friendship slowly rekindle and seeing them confront the circumstances that separated them made their journey especially meaningful.

The cover is adorable. That's the first thing that drew me to this book when it was initially announced. I love a good Christmas book cover.
I was not aware of the cancer plot going in, so it was an emotional and sentimental read, as I am going through my own cancer journey and needed to move away to get treatment. Some scenes just hit harder for me.
Overall, it's a story about second chances, found family, and keeping the Christmas spirit and joy amidst a difficult time.
Hannah has built a nice quiet life in Shelter Springs as a music therapist and is a good friend who can be relied upon. When her friend needs to go out of state for life-saving medical treatment, right as it's the holiday season, Hannah immediately steps in and offers to take care of the two young children. But she's not expecting her ex and childhood sweetheart, Wes, to be back in town, bringing back feelings she's worked hard to suppress.
When Wes was a young adult, his family went through a tragedy and as a result, he decided to walk away from Hannah, leaving her brokenhearted and devastated. But now Wes is back in town along with his K9 police dog, both recovering from a work incident that left them injured. Fate keeps bringing the two together and Wes is reminded that he never stopped loving Hannah. Will Wes and Hannah make it work this time around and get a happy ending?
As with other RaeAnne Thayne books lately, I do think it could have used better editing. Some things I noticed that should have been corrected or clarified include:
1.)
Wes and his grandfather are invited over to Hannah's house for pizza, and Wes offers to bring a salad. Hannah transforms that salad by adding cucumber, tomatoes, croutons and shaved Parmesan cheese (page 107). Which brings me to wonder...what on earth did Wes actually bring? Just lettuce? It sounds like he did the bare minimum.
2.)
I was also a little surprised that Hannah allows 6-year-old Carter and 8-year-old Riley to shower on their own with no supervision (page 206). Six seems a little too young to bathe independently, especially in a hotel and not at one's home.
3.)
There were a few printing and editing errors in my book. Pages 6, 30, 38 were printed in darker, more bold font compared to the rest of the text. And "But" on page 254 is misspelled (it's missing the "t").

Oh my goodness, this book checked off EVERY SINGLE BOX for the perfect cozy Christmas read! I was laughing, I was smiling, I was crying… ALL OF THE ABOVE! 🥹❤️ I absolutely adore RaeAnne Thayne, and she has once again given me a story that completely stole my heart!
The love story between Wes and Hannah was just BEAUTIFUL. There is something so special about a second-chance romance, especially when two people have shared so much history, heartbreak and love. Watching them find their way back to each other, work through their past and rediscover the feelings that never truly went away was everything I wanted in a holiday romance. Their story was filled with so much emotion, hope and tenderness. I was rooting for them the entire time!
But what I loved most was that this book was about so much more than romance. The friendships, the importance of family, the way everyone came together during difficult times and the beautiful reminder that sometimes we all need a little help made this story incredibly heartwarming. And can we talk about the adorable Kodiak?! 🐾❤️

Cozy Little Christmas is a sweet second-chance holiday romance following Hannah and Wes, former loves who unexpectedly find themselves back in each other’s lives in their small hometown. Between Hannah helping care for her friend’s children and Wes returning home with his K9 partner, Kodiak, there are plenty of opportunities for old feelings to resurface—and maybe for the two of them to finally get their second chance.
I enjoyed the overall premise and the cozy small-town Christmas setting, but the story moved a little too slowly for me and ultimately felt longer than it needed to be. I would have loved to see more of that time used to really develop Hannah and Wes’s history. We know their relationship didn’t work the first time, but I wanted more specifics about why it fell apart and, especially, more conversation between them about what would make things different this time around. Their reconciliation felt a little quick considering everything that had happened between them.
I felt similarly about Kodiak’s story. It was clear that he was still dealing with the effects of his injuries, and I was really interested in that aspect, but I would have loved more depth surrounding the incident and his recovery. There were several pieces of the story that had the potential to add more emotional weight but stayed mostly in the background.
A little more plot development, some flirty banter, and more time rebuilding the relationship would have gone a long way toward making this feel like the coziest little Christmas romance. 🎄
I listened to the audiobook, and while the narration was solid, the slower pacing was still noticeable. I do think audio was the right format for me with this one and made it easier to settle into the story.
Overall, a cute holiday read with a lovely premise—I just wanted a little more depth and spark from the story and romance.

I don’t usually gravitate towards romance novels, but I do love the Christmas Season and a romance at Christmas time is even better. In addition, I felt like reading a book where everyone is relatively happy and the ending is predictable. I think I have been reading too many thrillers, with murders to be solved!
This story revolves around Hannah, a young woman with her own music therapy business in the small town of Shelter Springs. She is busily preparing for her annual Christmas Concert, rehearsing with school children and with residents at a senior center. These groups will be performing at the concert.
Stanley Kenner, a resident of the senior center, tells Hannah that his grandson, Wes, is coming to town to prepare Stanley’s house for sale. Hannah and Wes dated years earlier, but he abruptly ended their relationship, telling her he wasn’t what she needed. After an accident killed his father and left his mother with brain damage, Wes felt unable to face Hannah or accept her help as he coped with the loss. Hannah, who had believed they would someday marry, was deeply hurt by his departure.
Other characters are introduced including Hannah’s twin sister, Holly, and Holly’s daughter Lydia. Hannah’s best friend Morgan also plays into the story. Morgan has contracted cancer and has a chance to go to Salt Lake City for two months so that she can partake in an experimental treatment. Hannah offers to care for her children, Riley and Carter and Morgan accepts.
As the story progresses, Hannah and Wes gradually rekindle their lost love, Morgan recovers, and her children love staying with Hannah even though they loved their mom best.
The characters were somewhat unidimensional, and it was difficult to find anything wrong with any of them. However, the story was faced=paced and I finished it in a few days. A worthwhile read if you like romances and Christmas in a small town. A true Hallmark movie!!

Other characters are introduced including Hannah’s twin sister, Holly, and Holly’s daughter Lydia. Hannah’s best friend Morgan also plays into the story. Morgan has contracted cancer and has a chance to go to Salt Lake City for two months so that she can partake in an experimental treatment. Hannah offers to care for her children, Riley and Carter and Morgan accepts.
As the story progresses, Hannah and Wes gradually rekindle their lost love, Morgan recovers, and her children love staying with Hannah even though they loved their mom best.
The characters were somewhat unidimensional, and it was difficult to find anything wrong with any of them. However, the story was faced=paced and I finished it in a few days. A worthwhile read if you like romances and Christmas in a small town. A true Hallmark movie!!

August 30, 2026I can honestly say that this is the first book I have read straight through. Cozy Little Christmas by RaeAnne Thayne is exactly what the title promises. It has a little bit of everything in it from a second chance relationship, to a little town that would do anything for its residents.
It starts with Hannah and Wes seeing each other again after their relationship ended twelve years earlier. Hannah wanted to stand by Wes when he lost his dad and his mom was badly injured during a robbery. Wes turned away from Hannah and left town. When Wes came back to town, his grandfather, Stanley, tried his hardest to get them back together. I loved Stanley. I wish my grandfather would have been like him.
The town of Shelter Springs is a small town in Idaho. It is the kind of town where everybody looks out for everybody and are the first to help anybody who needs help, especially someone like Morgan who hadn't lived in Shelter Springs very long
Morgan had cancer and needed to go away for a month or so to take part in an experimental treatment. Being a single mom with 2 children, she had no one to take care of while she went away from her treatment. Hannah stepped in to take care of the children and the whole town also helped out.
I wanted to jump through the book and knock some sense into Wes and Hannah. They both still loved each other, but were to stubborn to admit it.
The book didn't just focus on Wes and Hannah, but it also focused on Morgan and her cancer journey and her children and what they went through while their mom was away. It also focused on the strong bonds of the families, the strong friendships, and how a supportive community rallied around one another.
If you are looking for a great Christmas story, I would highly recommend this one.

Just ignore the handsome K9 Officer and his adorable, yet injured, Malinois Kodiak, and go about her business making everyone's day better.

Oh, how I have fallen in love with RaeAnne Thayne’s Shelter Springs. Reading this book, as well as the previous Christmas Shelter Springs books, feel like a cozy warm hug that makes you feel warm and comfy, and you can’t help smiling as you read. And all the retirees I know would be running to live somewhere like the Shelter Inn retirement community. First of all, the cover of “Cozy Little Christmas “ has beautiful artwork with vibrant colours and a sense of whimsy - it makes me want to jump in and visit for the holidays. The story centres around Hannah, a music therapist and twin to Holly, and Wes, her first love and current K9 officer. Hannah loves to help others in their small town community through her love of music, at the retirement home, with her clients at the local school and organizing a concert for charity. She extends her giving spirit by offering to care for a friend’s children over the Christmas holiday while they in hospital with a serious illness. Wes, and his injured K9 dog, Kodiak, step in to offer support to Hannah and the kids while also reminding them both what a great team they had been in the past. There is no better time to find your way back together and to love than during the Christmas season. Raeanne Thayne celebrates the love and spirit of Christmas and the magic and healing powers of music. Hannah is a music therapist and lives in Shelter Springs . She loves her job, her friends and her family. Even after years of nursing a broken heart, this is where she belongs. She is working on a musical program for the community and raises money for a good cause and for a young mother, who’s her friend who’s is fighting cancer. Morgan has to go to a special hospital where there is experimental treatment for her. Hannah offers to take care of her children while Morgan has the fight of her life. Wes, a police officer, is also from Shelter Springs but when there was a tragedy in his family, he left. Left the woman he loved. He broke her heart. Now he’s back after he almost lost his life in the line of duty. Thanks to his K9 Kodiak, who saved his life but who also got injured. They both are struggling to heal. Wes runs into Hannah and offers to help her with the children. Wes and Hannah end up spending time together, as Hannah takes him up on the offer. They still have chemistry. They are both cautious because he will leave and she will stay. She doesn’t want her heart broken again. He now wonders what their lives might had been if he had stayed. Would they have had children ? What a live they could have had. Can he convince her that he still loves and wants her? He knows now that his life is empty without her. Will he stay? The characters are wonderful. They are both loving, kind and helpful to the children.l in their time of need. They need to realize that sometimes you have to let go and after being apart, they realize that this time is meant to be. Worth the read. I received this book for my honest review. I give it voluntarily.

I loved this book! OK, so I really enjoy Christmas books, but they aren’t all executed as well as Raeanne Thayne’s stories are.
The leading characters, Hannah and Wes, were real people dealing with real-life issues, and that made them even more compelling for me. Hannah and Wes were together as a couple long before the start of this book, but broke up. We get to find out what broke them up, and we witness them healing from that rift.
It’s a HEA romance, as all Ms. Thayne’s books are—we want happily ever after—but we don’t want predictable, and this romance isn’t. Hannah’s friend has cancer and is all alone, and we get to see what a beautiful person she is when she offers to help look after Morgan’s kids. Wes is also a great guy, but the tragedy of his past scarred him emotionally, and he has to get past that and realize there is a way forward with Hannah.
I really enjoyed the interaction between them and how they both had to do some soul-searching to move forward together. I am also kind of hoping there will be a story about Morgan in the future, as she was a really interesting character too and deserves her own HEA. I also enjoyed the music therapy storyline and the fact that we were once again back in Shelter Springs, with many of the familiar characters from the previous books. But you do not have to have read the other books to enjoy this one, as it can standalone. However, you will want to read the rest of the series afterwards; I guarantee it !
I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves a good, clean romance and also loves a Christmas theme.

September 18, 2026Hannah has a good life - great job, close family, a new home, great friends. Then her high school sweetheart, Wes, comes back to town. Hannah has worked hard to move on with her life after Wes broke her heart. As Wes struggles with his own demons, he begins to think that maybe it wasn't a good idea to push Hannah away all those years ago. Hannah continues to fill her time including a Christmas concert that brings together the town of Shelter Springs. When her friend needs some medical treatments in Salt Lake City, Hannah takes in her two children to care for them while she is gone. The two children change her perspective on her life even during a busy holiday season. Cozy Little Christmas is told from the point of view of both Hannah and Wes, which I enjoyed reading to see each side of the story. RaeAnne Thayne is a wonderful storyteller that draws you in with her believable characters and stories that warm the heart, especially because it is set in the holiday season. It is refreshing to read a story that is not dark and overly dramatic, but is more positive overall. Cozy Little Christmas is part of the Shelter Springs series but it is a stand-alone story. Although, you may want to read the other books in the series after you have read Cozy Little Christmas.

Another cozy Christmas read by RaeAnne, and this one packed a punch. This story covers tougher topics like death, healing, forgiveness, and being vulnerable in the midst of grief. I listened to this book alongside my kindle copy for a fully immersive read.

Wes is back home temporarily to help his grandfather and allow himself and his K9 to heal. What he doesn’t expect is for his grandfather’s next door neighbor to be Hannah, his first love. Years ago, when his life was shattered, he pushed her away instead of letting her walk beside him. Now he is back home and forced proximity has them constantly together. As Hannah helps a friend with her children for the holidays, Wes finds himself stepping in more and more. And as they spend time together, it becomes harder to ignore the feelings that never went away. But Wes doesn’t think he deserves another chance with Hannah after what he did to her.
This was a harder read with grief and the fragility of life woven throughout. I loved seeing Hannah and Wes slowly work through their past, while learning that loving someone also means letting them in, even during the hard times. This was very much a slow burn and times the pacing felt a bit too slow...but by the end I was glad I stuck with it and got my HEA!

This holiday read is all about letting people in to help and support you and the need of community to live a full life. Hannah is a musical therapist with a heart of gold. Hannah is taking care of two adorable children for a friend in need of medical care. While preparing for the town Christmas concert, the love of her life who left when his world exploded, is back in their hometown to recovery from a work injury and visit family. Wes is still in love with Hannah, but he knows he can't risk hurting her again and that she would never take him back after leaving her the way he did. Situations keep bringing them together which brings up feelings and emotions that they each had thought were pushed away.
Although the relationship and connection between Wes and Hannah is our focal point of this story, it isn't actually the storyline that grabs most of your attention. The community and support of Morgan and how Wes and Hannah find peace with the feelings and emotions of their past is. Why hiding from those who love and care for you only hurts, and to be open and accepting of that love and care.

As much as this was a heartfelt holiday read and had such sentimental moments, I felt there was a lot of repetition on the description of Wes and Hannah's feelings for each other. Read this for an overall story of community and connection! 3.5 stars!
