When Joaquin and his team finally break through the bricked-up cellar entrance underneath Havoc International UK, they stumble upon an enigma. With the shadowy House Drâculești poised to usurp their discovery, the race is on to solve the mystery, or face the grim consequences.
In the USA, Havoc and Kai revisit the site of the late Dr Grizzle’s underground lair. Aided by specialists from the mythical being community, their mission to investigate historic non-human activity begets life-or-death repercussions. The ancient evil they uncover must never return to the World.
Meanwhile, a change of guard in the Magi leadership threatens to end Incy’s existence. When a government minister in the new order is kidnapped from Absinthe on the same night Incy goes missing, Daiyu and Theo must scramble to join the dots.
Can Incy avert the disaster looming on every front and save her friends?
The Imaginative Adventures Continue Helen Huber created a thrilling fantasy world in the Epiphany series and I am a fan. I was intrigued to see Incy take center stage. And she captured my heart in this imaginative adventure. Rich with well-defined and colorful characters, the layers of interwoven plots that span international locations add intrigue. The age-old legend of vampires takes a new and innovative twist here. Its monstrous threat comes to life on the page. The shapeshifting being of American Indian lore adds a hauntingly poignant flare. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the ingenious and adventurous world of the Epiphany series. Incy Unbound comes to a rollicking and satisfying conclusion that left me hoping for the next installment! What an exciting read!
The fact that our Incy is under threat of being un-‘lifed’ as a vote goes against her is devastating. Everybody loves her, but that’s only one element of this brilliant, deep, literary fantasy book. The writing is so rich and beautiful that, although the subject matter is VERY different, I couldn’t help drawing comparisons to Tolkien.
We have myth and folklore, science, all the much-loved fantasy tropes, and vampiric horror. There’s a lot of story in this book, and all of it wrapped in velvet penmanship. The novel follows from Book 2 and is laced with discovery as they excavate the underground cavern, leading them into the best instalment yet. It takes us between continents and ancient realms as mysteries are puzzled over, and an ancient vampire sleeps. We even get to visit the world of Fae, and that takes strong writing and imagination. The ability to balance tension with emotional depth is perfectly executed, and the level of research is extensive. The pace is heart-pounding at times, and the world Huber’s built over the 3 books expands with sophisticated description and characters as the series grows stronger with every instalment. We have elves, dwarves, rituals and handfasting.
Incy is a loveable character with an endearing charm, her placement gives heart to a plot filled with supernatural forces, and all manner of species. The half-sisters have their personal lives as side plots as the new investigation gets underway. Joaquin is a strong alpha male, and Havoc is stubborn. Kai and Daiyu are on the other side of the world, with difficult and inquisitive pilots to barter with and their own problems. We’ve already bonded with the girls and root for them at every turn. Two of my favourite parts were the scenes as they break through the wall. And then the gorgeous descriptions of the fae wedding, but even that doesn’t go without hitches.
The plot thrashes with competing loyalties and hidden agendas. The prose is poetic and literary in keeping with the genre. Fans will finish this novel in anticipation of the next and brace for what comes after.
Incy takes centre stage when a disgraced Magi kidnaps her and believes that she can control the little skeleton for some nefarious plan. Incy must play along in order to discover what the plan is but what she discovers could have devastating consequences not just for the inhabitants of Epiphany but the world as a whole. Meanwhile the mysterious secret room that is found beneath Havoc HQ in London throws out a startling discovery and Havoc and Kai search for something in a warren of caves underneath the Rockies Pueblo facility that the heinous Dr Grizzle had his secret lair at in book 2. But what they’re searching for has been buried for several centuries and powerful people have tried to keep it buried and for plenty good reason too. When they finally uncover the horror they realise that they may have to sacrifice themselves to keep the secret buried. As with the previous books in the series this a superbly writing story that expertly blends the supernatural with fantasy, fairy tales, history and science and in this one there is a dash of horror particularly in the scenes where Havoc and friends finally find what they have been searching for. The big reveal is a genuine moment of wet your pants terror. I believe the ending came to a conclusion that will satisfy anyone who doesn’t like cliffhangers but there is that feeling that we have not heard the last from the residents of Epiphany. I do hope there is a fourth book in the works.
Another roller-coaster of a tale. You would have thought that after saving the world, the powers that be would have cut Incy a little slack, but no, she’s back in the crosshairs. We follow our beloved characters from the first two Epiphany books, as they battle to keep the human world from, at best, learning about the mythical beasts (MBs) that walk in plain sight amongst them, and at worst, being subjugated by a variety of rogue groups, all who want to dominate the humans and the other MBs. All the villains need to have their nefarious plans thwarted. The threads of the story flit from the London HQ, to Absinthe with Daiyu and Theo, and into the caves below Dr Grizzle’s laboratory, with Havoc and Kai and their crew. Slowly, the plotlines twine together as terrible hidden secrets are revealed, culminating in an explosive ending as the factions battle an ancient and deadly enemy. This is well researched in every detail, and the quality of writing is excellent, including fear-inducing descriptions, closely followed by laugh-out-loud dollops of humour. But I particularly liked the story from little Incy’s point of view. So powerful but still so childlike. Looking forward to finding out what comes next.
A FANTASTIC FANTASY ADVENTURE! I so much enjoyed books 1 and 2 in the A Town Called Epiphany Series by Helen Huber and looked forward to reading this third book. The thrills, adventures, and story plot twists were all that I hoped this story would be, and so much more. Book 3 incorporates three mini-stories into one very connected and enjoyable plot – Joaquin and his cohorts stumble on a long-lost mystery under Havoc International UK, while Havoc and Kai investigate non-human happenings in an underground lair, and at the same time a government minister is kidnapped from Absinthe, complicated by Incy going missing the same night. The adventures and thrills continue to unfold one after the other in all three situations with seemingly no resolutions in sight. The overall connected plot is ingenious and highly entertaining. Even if you had not read the first two books, don’t fear about picking this one up to read since Author Helen Huber does a wonderful recap of the previous books to orient the new reader. However, I recommend reading all three books in the series as excellent fantasy entertainment and to develop a special love for the Incy character, as I did.
A Town Called Epiphany, Book 3: Incy Unbound, by Helen Huber.
After a Council ruling that Incy’s ‘life’ status should be removed and she be returned to that of an ‘unlife’ being, and sent to another realm—the little skeleton, understandably, decides to run away. The rich tapestry of characters added suspense and drama to the tale, as the search for Incy gets underway.
If you love fantasy stories where werewolves, vampires, giant beings and scary shapeshifters and fairies abound, then this story is not to be missed. An epic adventure, well-written with imagination and intrigue woven throughout. I especially enjoyed the chapters with Incy in them. She is such an adorable little character. A riveting, immersive plot to the last page.
I'm a fan of the first two Epiphany books, and I was so excited to read this third installment. It did not disappoint! Helen Huber has done it again with another fantastically rich fantasy filled with interesting characters, interweaving plots, and fun adventure. And Incy, of course, was the star of this one. Considering what a great character she is, I'm so glad she got her time to shine!
What a great read, full of adventure, intrigue and excitement. The characters continue to jump from the page, while the plot keeps you turning those pages. Throughout it all, Incy shines like the little star she is. Can't wait to see what the next installment brings.
Having read the first two books in this series, it was good to read more about Havoc, Daiyu and Incy, the Nompic. This is a thrilling fantasy tale full of mythical beings, wizards, and vampires, sure to be loved by all fans of the paranormal. The characters are fascinating, and the book is beautifully written – an exciting read - recommended.
This is a really good installment in the series. Lots of lore, some action and great characters.
I did find the ending was a bit rushed feeling with a lot of different threads ending in a way that felt abrupt. It is also a pretty dense read - if you like a lot of detail, you will definitely like this one!
