This is book 4 in the Colson Creek series and once again, Erin grabs the reader page one. Benjamin Benson is the youngest Benson brother and has just discovered he’s a dad at 46 years old after living a playboy lifestyle for years. Well, that’s about to change. And to complicate his life even more, Ben’s best friend from high school, the one he shared everything with, secretly pined for, Tristyn Henderson, has returned to Colson Creek and for the last year, she’s been sharing Sunday family meals with the Bensons, ignoring Ben and acting like she can’t stand the sight of him. Ben’s confused. What did he do to her? Why does she hate him? She left! That’s only one mystery in this romantic suspense story that I stayed up very late to finish with no regrets.
This book can be read as a stand alone and something that Erin excels at in her writing is giving us more than a glimpse into the history of the characters from her previous books. This helps new readers get to know the other characters. For those of us who’ve read the previous books in this series, we get to remember their personalities and revisit their own HEAs.
I can’t tell you how much I ADORE the Benson family, all of the brothers and their women. The humor, sarcasm, loyality and of course the love shines thru. There is so much wonderful family banter that I never wanted it to end. The Benson women are fierce and there’s nothing better in my opinion to enjoy in a romance novel than strong, fierce women. Bless you Erin for giving us this family.
Then there’s dad Erik Benson and the sainted Donna. Donna has been a virtual godsend to the family since their mother left so many years ago. We should all be so fortunate to have a “Donna” in our lives. She’s taken over as a wife, mother, and a grandmother who arranges Sunday family dinners and weekly church attendance for the Bensons and many times their friends who become family. Enter the mysterious Lancaster. He’s got a dark past. And a soft heart. Can’t WAIT for his book next!
Back to Ben and Tristyn. Ben is desperately trying to soften her heart. Bring down her walls. They have secrets between them. Big ones. Tristyn is hiding from danger that has followed her to Colson Creek and Ben is determined to protect her.
Buckle up. You won’t be able to put down this book. When danger hits too close to home, the Benson family step up as they naturally do and, well, this beautifully written story ends with a well deserved, hard earned HEA that will have you smiling ear to ear.
