Many months before the end of World War II, The Third Reich was doomed. The shooting war was over in May 1945, but for hardcore Nazis, the war was far from over.
In September of 1944, 10-year-old George Ames sees an astonishing event that seems outside the realm of all possibility—a German U-Boat surfacing off the coast of Long Island, New York. As the lone witness to this sighting, George convinces himself that his overactive imagination is to blame, and he quickly puts the memory of the event behind him.
Ten years later, a chance meeting provides George with the opportunity to cross paths with one of the men who surfaced in the German U-Boat, proving that what he saw years ago wasn’t just a gment of his imagination.
This chance encounter eventually serves as the catalyst to a 30-year investigation, where George and his associates will slowly discover a horrifying and insidious truth—many members of The Third Reich refused to allow their cause to be vanquished even years after Germany’s defeat in WWII.
With a fascinating mix of historical fact and fiction, The Volsung Project captivates with twisted and suspenseful intrigue and espionage, leaving a lingering “What if?” long after the last page is turned.

In September 1944, ten year old George Ames saw a German U-Boat surface off the coast of Long Island, New York. As far as he knew, he was the only witness to the event. Over time he almost convinced himself that it must have been a figment of his imagination. In 1944 Germany was losing the War. The Third Reich was doomed, but not all Nazis accepted this. Gold was quietly being syphoned away from Europe. Ten years after the sighting of the U-Boat, Ames crossed paths with one of the participants of that nearly forgotten event. This chance meeting set in motion an investigation that spans 30 years. The Volsung Project is the twisted tale of post war Nazi plans, secret meetings, espionage, and intrigue. Ames and his circle of friends and experts throughout the Western Hemisphere are challenged to identify and thwart the Nazi plans.
World War II is over, the Third Reich is defeated. At least that is what George Ames thought before he crosses paths with someone from his past, someone he assumed was a figment of his imagination.
In “The Volsung Project”by Robert Corwin, MD, Ames discovers what happens when a handful of hardcore Nazis don’t stop when the war does. Full of twists, turns and suspense, Corwin’s blend of historical fact and intriguing fiction make for a thrilling ride!
The topic is interesting although not entirely original. My biggest gripe is the writing style. This books reads more like an after action report than a novel. The conversations contain many clichés. The story is very linear with few surprises and rare setbacks that can make a novel more entertaining. Not a bad book but not run into another book from that author.
