We have jumped into the future 5 centuries. In all that time things still haven’t truly advance or improved for the peoples.
A common thread in these stories is Lucas. If you remember he headed for his lab deep in the mountains when Phoebe was killed.
Read this series; it makes you think deep moral thoughts. It truly does.

Another fantastic installment in the series. I made the mistake of pausing halfway through due to life and such. I restarted from the beginning during winter break and was glad I did.
Like the previous installments, the storyline is captivating. It challenges how we think about AI and the impact decisions about how it's used. It left me excited for the final book.

To be fair, I didn't read the first book in the series, so my buy-in to the characters might have been affected, as well as my understanding of the story arc that runs throughout the three novels (perhaps more are coming?) in this series.

That said, since it had been a while since I read the second book, the start of this volume was a bit bumpy, but it leveled out as I got to know the current characters a bit. There was some hard science language that lost me a bit about 3/4 of the way through, but that's to be expected.

The ending is what was problematic for me. If this is not the end of the series (think Empire Strikes Back), then I get that, but to leave the series on this note was disappointing to me as a reader. It was not poorly written, just displeasing from a reader's point of view.

I really enjoyed the third book in this series. It is fun to see how the community has developed and to meet the descendents from the original colony members. I finished this book really looking forward to reading the final book!

Book 3 of the Synthetic Eden series continues to deliver surprising plot twists while holding steady with believable (for science fiction) characters and recognizeable societal archetypes. This is a thoroughly enjoyable narrative and I can't wait to read the final book in this series!
