Rate this book
“If you think you can tame a rake, think again… it never works.”

Lord Julian Vexley, the overlooked second son, is exiled to a crumbling estate after his latest indiscretion threatens his family’s honor. Hiding under the name Mr. Julian Vale, he expects boredom, but instead finds Isabelle Deane, a brilliant and capable woman who challenges him in ways he never imagined.

As she teaches him purpose and he awakens her guarded heart, passion sparks between them. But when Julian’s true identity is exposed, blackmail and betrayal threaten everything they’ve built.

Can a disgraced lord and an estate manager’s daughter defy society’s rules, or will love be the greatest scandal of all?

A beautifully crafted romance that proves love can indeed conquer all, even the most rigid social conventions of Regency England. Julian and Isabelle's journey from deception to devotion will capture your heart from the very first page.

This was like reading stereo instructions or estate ledgers falling in love. Not only is it more AI than the first two (and the AI seemed determined to throw in the entire thesaurus of huge words), but it's entirely unfeeling throughout the whole thing. A pair of Vulcans would have more passion than these two. The entire plot centers around how they are perhaps being improperly chaperoned. It's happened to her before and it destroyed her life, and we're expected to believe that she'd do it again? I made it through about 75% of this but I didn't care about them enough to finish this torturous novel.

This is probably one of the most serious regency romance I have read. Very detailed description of the main characters and their characteristics. Just two things for me I really did not feel the romance in this story. I understand the admiration between the two as the story revealed more of their lives together. My other one is a question. What happened to Jasper? Where is he?
