Jonathon Netanyahu is well known for leading the raid on Entebbe, one of the great success stories for the state of Israel, which unfortunately ended in his tragic death. Our family was in the process of moving to Florida from Massachusetts when the hijacking took place and we had just arrived in Ft. Lauderdale when the rescue took place so we had been following the events very closely. I read the book "90 Minutes at Entebbe" and saw the TV movies and the theatrical releases. This book of the letters he wrote to his family and friends lets us see into his mind and the events in his life that led up to his becoming the commander of the Entebbe rescue, although there are obviously no letters in here referring to the raid. There are some quite interesting things about him that I never knew, such as that he was an extra in the movie "Judith" which was filmed in Israel. After reading his letters you are left feeling that his life was even more tragic than you knew. He was depressed frequently about the world's treatment of Israel and was constantly writing about his desire to finish his college education at Harvard which he was on the verge of doing until he got killed. It is sad he never got to see Israel come out of its isolation and I'm sure he would have been ecstatic about the peace deals that are happening now with the UAE and Bahrain. There are a lot of typos in the kindle version but that does not detract from this book being a great read.

Brilliant. Inspiring and so elegantly written
If someone gathered up my texts and Facebook messages posthumously, and turned them into a book, it probably wouldn’t be the most valiant biography, to say the least.

Which is what makes this book even more special.
If you were to knowingly write your own autobiography, you could dress it up as much as you wanted. Yoni had no idea these letters would someday be read not only by his intended loved ones, but by millions of strangers. But they paint such a noble picture of the man. It makes you reconsider again your own guiding beliefs and goals in life. Because this was a man who considered the meaning and purpose of every moment in his short life, asking incessantly “how can I better support what I believe in?”
