From America's foremost expert on matters of history comes this shrink wrapped set of two of his bestselling works, "D-Day" and "Citizen Soldier". November '98 publication date.
Stephen Edward Ambrose was an American historian and biographer of U.S. Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Richard M. Nixon. He received his Ph.D. in 1960 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In his final years he faced charges of plagiarism for his books, with subsequent concerns about his research emerging after his death.
Loved it. Really goes into so much detail about the planning and execution of an incomprehensible mobilization. Covers what was going on all over the war arena and the home front. Makes one feel quite ashamed of complaining about anything! I wonder if we would be as selfless and brave today?
A very good account of D-Day. Much more detail than the Longest Day. A little slow when discussing the infantry advances up the various beaches, but otherwise very engaging.
