Another book I did not want to put down, though I had to, more often than I wanted to, life sucks like that sometimes. Anyway.
Right away we’re thrown into the thick of it, with Fae coming to steal away mortals from their lands, and taking them to the Fae lands, a place, they will live, and die within, because there is no returning. When her best friend was chosen as one of the chosen, our FMC Miralyte volunteered to go in her place. That backfired because she was taken along for the ride, and what happens when you toss a Fae-hating human against a Fae Warlord?
Snark, banter, knife throwing, attempted murder, and all of the fun things one could expect when you put two unmovable objects together.
It’s also pretty clear that Mira isn’t quite what we, or she, thinks she is; she’s also stubborn to the very core, refusing to let go of the hatred she has in her heart for the beings responsible for her sister's murder.
Things in the Fae realm, though, are going to test her because there’s something spreading through the court, slowly killing Fae, and mortals alike and Mira might just be the cure.
The MMC Zydar, is just as fun, and I give him props for dealing with Mira because she put him through some shit. He met his match with her without a doubt, and their relationship grows naturally, and it’s nice to see that she doesn’t just give up her hatred; she struggles with her feelings and what it means.
The way he advocates for her, the way he cares for her, he freaking feeds her!!!! Like, honestly, top-tier book boyfriend
There are twists, and turns and more twists, like honestly they just kept coming, and they all felt natural, and while there are familiar tropes and plot hooks, it feels fresh, it feels new and exciting, for the first time in a long time I was surprised by what I was reading, so it’s nice to still be surprised by books.
Also, the ending of this book? Made me cry, and I can count on one hand the number of times that a book has made me cry.
I’d have liked a little more world-building, but, with the way the end of the book is set up, I feel like we might get more of that, if we get a second book. I devoured this and I loved every single moment of it.
Thank you to the author and Book Sirens for the Arc.
