The Gentlemen's Gamble

A Foolish Proposal

Rate this book
One careless remark. One outrageous proposal. One Season to discover love where they least expect it.

Tristan Shepherd never expected the London Season to throw him back into the path of Caroline Whitby—the spirited girl from his youth who once declared she detested both him and his horses. But when a single careless remark at a glittering ball damages Caroline’s prospects with a promising suitor, she lays the blame squarely at Tristan’s feet.

Determined to make amends—and needing a wife himself—Tristan offers marriage. Caroline flatly refuses. Still, with the Season slipping away, they strike an uneasy bargain: he’ll help her find a husband, and she’ll help him secure a bride.

But as they navigate crowded ballrooms, stolen moments, and the dangerous game of matchmaking, their sparring gives way to a far more perilous discovery: the one match they both swore was impossible might be the only one they truly desire.

This is the third book in the series. This time we get Tristan’s story! I loved this story! Caroline and Tristan knew each other as children, now they are grown and meet again. Tristian accidentally ruins her marriage prospect. He then offers himself as a replacement. Tristan is a flirt, so Caroline (or Caro) doesn’t take it seriously and in fact would rather marry a toad. Tristan then has to prove himself to her. I really enjoyed this story! I loved the banter between Tristan and Caro. I also enjoyed the side characters Kitty and Caro’s brother James. I loved how both Caro and Tristan interacted with their friends, willing to help. I liked Caro and Kitty’s master plan at the end. Overall, a great story and I definitely recommend!

“𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖,” 𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒅. “𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒔𝒐 𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒎𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒓𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒂 𝒄𝒖𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒌. 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒘𝒊𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒃𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒅, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒍𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒄𝒆.”

What an amazing romance. This story was such a page turner.

When Tristan reunites with a childhood friend, the sister of his close friend James, he is not prepared for how much Caroline has changed. She is no longer the little girl he remembers but a beautiful young woman. Used to teasing her, Tristan lets a few words slip that put her possible future engagement at risk. Feeling guilty, he offers to help Caroline win back her future fiancé. In return, she agrees to help him find a future bride of his own.

As they spend more time together, they slowly realize the person they care for most is each other. But that is not an easy choice. Both Tristan and Caroline need to marry someone with money, something neither of them can offer. Can they really stand by and watch the other marry someone else?

I loved this story. The growing feelings between Tristan and Caroline felt real and natural. And their almost first kiss. Um, Wow! Was I affected by it? Yes, I was, lol! *if you know you know.

There is so much more to this story, including hints of possible side romances, but no spoilers here. Just read it!

I received a complimentary copy. This review reflects my honest opinion.

I loved getting lost in this book. Getting to know Caroline and Tristan was such a joy. I absolutely love the dynamic between them with his confident flirtiness and her practical feistiness but only with him! I seriously loved every interaction between them.

The first proposal had me laughing and reminded me a little bit of a Darcy & Elizabeth moment.

I loved watching these two fall for each other! I also love the history between them and I can’t wait for you to discover more about them!

One aspect of the story that I really enjoyed were all of the fun activities these characters did throughout London. It felt very immersive, like I was on a wonderful regency tour with them.

I loved seeing the other gentlemen friends from the series. It’s amazing how these books are connected, and I am enjoying getting to know each character more!

Tristan and Caroline’s story had me smiling, laughing, and it had me melting! Their flirty feisty banter was the best. It also tore at my heart strings and kept me guessing as to how everything would work out!

I just have to say how incredible the epilogue is. It is very long and I loved every second of it!! This story ties up so beautifully and it made my heart so very happy!

This is a must read regency romance. It captivated me and transported me to the regency era with beautiful writing, and the most wonderful characters. Tristan and Caroline will steal your heart!!!!! I love them and their beautiful story so soo much!!!!

"Caroline was worth fighting for."

A Foolish Proposal by Kasey Stockton

Oh. My. Tristan. and. Caroline.
From Friends to Annoyance (on her part) to Friends again to More! These two had me laughing, swooning, cheering for Tristan to get the girl, and ultimately LOVING every minute I spent with them.

I binged this sweet Regency Romance the day it came out and I could not put it down. These two were just simply adorable.
When she claimed she would rather marry a toad when he proposes, bahahaha! I was dying inside. And then she overcomes her aversion to him and they agree to help each other out but on one condition, they can't fall for each other. We all know those silly rules never work!

I loved watching them realize their true feelings for each other and when Tristan figuratively (and literally) fights for her, SWOON! He fell so hard for her, I'm surprised he didn't have a goose egg on his heart from the fall.

I definitely recommend this next one in this amazing Regency Multi-author series that is quickly becoming one my most favorite series ever!
I listened to it on Hoopla and followed along in my Kindle copy of the book.

Ahhh I love this sweet love story sooooo much!!! Best friend's sibling is one of my favorite tropes and this is a perfect Regency version of that! There was so much to love between Tristan and Caroline aka Caro. Unrequited feelings from the past. The Banter. The Friendship. The Reunion. The Care. The Protection. The Looks. The Stolen Touches. The Laughter. The Smiles. The Almost First Kiss. The First Kiss. The Outings. The Proposal(s). The Family Aspects. The Falling Even More Into Love. Allllll the Heart Eyes!!!!

Tristan might have made a mistake in trying to tease his childhood friend, but it was probably the best mistake he could have made. He and Caro made me smile so much while reading their story. You'll be hooked and laughing out loud when you start reading this one. This book is definitely one of my favorites by Kasey Stockton. Which, I think I say that with every new book! But she just keeps writing incredible stories and characters for us readers! She has a fan for life in me!

This is the third book in The Gentlemen's Gamble series. I can't wait to see what friend in their friend group gets their story revealed next. Which will be the last gentleman to get married and lose their wager? I'll see if my guess is correct or if I was wrong. Lol!

I hope you enjoy this one if you pick it up. I highly recommend it and the whole series! They can be read as standalones if you want. But definitely worth being read together!

What a fun multi-author series, The Gentlemen's Gamble, is all hinging on a wager that was made when the seven young men where on their grand tour. The ship they were on as they returned home hit a bad storm and as they waited to see if it would sink they made a wager that the last man to stay unmarried would give 100 pounds to each of the other men. Now six years later and Tristan Shepherd has seen his twin brother Charles, marry and two others in their group find their spouses. He is beginning to feel that it's time he also finds a wife before he's left as the last unmarried man. So he heads to London to check out the latest crop of debutantes. At one of his first outings he is happy to see his old friend James Whitby and his sister Caroline. He has no idea that Caroline has been courting a man and she is expecting him to propose. The man she has chosen is an avid horse lover and he knows that Caroline wants nothing to do with horses. So Tristan kidding her reveals her feelings to the man pretty much ending any proposal. He feels so bad about it that he goes to visit her to apologize and propose marriage to him. When she refuses him, he realizes that he really wants to marry her and he must convince her that he's the best candidate.

Caroline Whitby needs a husband because her father's poor choices have left her family in a bad financial situation. The man she had chosen Mr Dennison has a good size inheritance and even though she doesn't have his passion for horses, she feels he would make a good husband. When Tristan destroys the proposal she was expecting and then proposes himself, she is irate with him. He was such a flirt and he also was the second son as his twin was born first. So even though Tristan will inherit a house from his parents , he actually needs a wife with a large dowry.

Caroline and Tristan make an agreement for her to help him find a wife and for him to help her get back into Mr Dennison's good graces. Caroline wishes she could choose Tristan as she remembers her crush on him when they were younger.

I was excited to read this story as I also read the previous one about Tristan's brother Charles. Each book in this series is by a different author and works fine as a stand alone story although the premise of the wager is in each story and there is interaction with characters from previous books. What also is fun is that each author is keeping it a secret when the books will come out and who the last man unmarried man will be.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

Oh my—this series! Every book is an instant favorite, & A Foolish Proposal was absolutely divine. I adored Tristan’s story! From the first witty remark to the last, the back-and-forth between him & Caro was perfection. With both needing a marriage proposal, the tension between growing attraction & the need to marry wealthy was chef’s kiss. Kasey Stockton delivers all the charm, delicious banter, endearing characters, & sweet romance in this new favorite. Run—don’t walk—& grab this one!

After his twin brother marries, Tristan Shepherd feels the pressure mounting. One by one, the men he wagered with on a stormy ship voyage are finding love, & the last to marry owes the rest a tidy sum Tristan can’t afford. Determined to find a wife, he attends a ball with his friend James & comes face-to-face with James’s sister, Caroline (Caro), whom he hasn’t seen in years. She’s all grown up & more beautiful than ever. Naturally, Tristan can’t resist his teasing…which accidentally ruins her match. Feeling guilty, he proposes marriage, but she’d rather marry a toad. So, he offers to help her win back a fiancé, or find another, while she helps him secure a wife. But the sizzling attraction between them quickly turns his plans upside down.

Caro’s had a crush on Tristan for years, but his flirtatious ways convinced her he’d never be serious. Now, with her father’s poor business decisions forcing her to marry wealthy, she locks her heart against him, or tries to. When Tristan’s involved, resisting is easier said than done.

I loved this story! The tension crackled on every page, and I adored watching Caro & Tristan match wits. There are some surprising twists & turns as the story plays out & friends turn to more. That first swoonworthy almost kiss was almost as good as their first real kiss & I loved every moment. From masquerade balls at Vauxhall to rides in Hyde Park, this book felt like a love letter to the Regency Season. I also enjoyed seeing familiar faces & can’t wait for the next installment.

Highly recommend this amazing book & series. Each can be read as a standalone, but are best enjoyed in order. I received an advanced copy from the author, but also purchased a copy in Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.

••I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

~One careless remark, one very foolish proposal, and suddenly emotions become far harder to ignore…

-Dear friends, A Foolish Proposal, is a humorous, delightful, heartwarming story! I thoroughly enjoyed how this story began and where this story took me. What began with a seemingly off-hand comment, opens the door for an unexpected turn of twists and turns. The blend of humor, and sincere intentions at heart had my full attention. I loved watching endearing main characters’s perspectives grow, change, and be united with choices placed before them. Seeing them want to not only risk, stand true, and fight for what was worth fighting for, took such courage, patience, and trust. The love and friendship that grew, blossomed, and held strong was so sweet. I loved the dynamics between main characters. My goodness, their flirty, fiesty banter had me sighing, smiling, and giggling throughout. The epilogue of this story was simply the best. Even when things may not go as planned, there can still be joy! Finding the goodness and love between was so swoons! This is such a wonderful story that is worth the captivating and delightful reading adventure, any day, as is this charming series it is part of. Each can be a stand alone but, please do not miss out on the beauty of them all! Worth it!🙌🏻📚💯

Who loves stories about childhood friends where she admired him but he never noticed her... Until now?
Well, here's a really good one! 😍
I enjoyed this book so much, I devoured it because the story flows perfectly and the chemistry between Tristan and Caroline made me want to keep reading.
Kasey Stockton makes the connection, tension, and attraction between the protagonists feel right in your stomach!
And the secondary characters were a great addition.
This was an excellent read and another perfect continuation of this fun series.
I highly recommend it!

Tristan Shepherd wasn't planning on getting married anytime soon, but seeing that his brother and several of his friends have now entered married life, he's worried that he's close to losing the gamble.
So he's determined to find a wife as soon as possible. A rich wife, to be specific.
Caroline Whitby is determined to help her family with their financial problems, and marrying a wealthy gentleman will allow her to do so, even if this gentleman has a strange obsession with horses and she feels nothing for him.
But just as she was expecting his marriage proposal, Tristan, her childhood neighbor for whom she had completely one-sided feelings, appears.
With one proposal ruined, another unexpected proposal, and matchmaking plans, the two find themselves spending more time together than they have in years and awakening more than just friendship.
But a series of misfortunes make a union between them almost impossible.
Now the question is, will duty or love be chosen?

You will find:
💍 Childhood acquaintances
💍 Reunion during the London season
💍 Friend's younger sister
💍 Marriage plans
💍 Finding a partner for the other
💍 Family misfortune
💍 Love vs. Duty
💍 Fighting for happiness

This is the third book in The Gentlemen's Gamble series.

Thanks to the author for the copy.

📚✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨📚
A Foolish Proposal
The Gentlemen’s Gamble, Book 3 by Kasey Stockton
⭐⭐⭐⭐

📝 My Thoughts:
The story follows Tristan Shepherd, who is determined to win a marriage wager he made years ago with his friends. The banter between Tristan and Caroline is honestly the highlight for me. It is witty, playful, and layered with years of shared history since they grew up together in Surrey. I loved how easy their conversations felt, like two people who know exactly how to push each other’s buttons. The fake interest scheme was fun and lighthearted, but of course it slowly turns into something very real. I also appreciated the historical detail of the year without a summer. It added such a moody, atmospheric backdrop without weighing the story down.

💖 Why I Loved It:
Tristan’s teasing and verbal sparring with Caroline made me smile more than once. Caroline is practical, smart, and steady, which made her a great match for Tristan’s charm.

The side characters were lovely too. Caroline’s friend Kitty and her brother James added an extra layer of sweetness with their own budding romance. This is one of those clean romances that feels comforting without being dull, perfect if you enjoy marriage wagers, gentle humor, and second chances.

🔖 Favorite Quote:
“I love my family, but I will not choose a husband based on money. It is too changeable a feature. I would prefer to choose a husband based on how I feel for him.”

📌 Final Verdict:
A really enjoyable, feel good Regency romance with a charming hero and a capable heroine. Even though it is part of a series, Tristan and Caroline’s story stands well on its own. Comfort reading at its best. 📖✨

“I would like to flirt with no one else but you for the rest of my life.”

I have loved this whole series so far and after reading Tristan’s twins book I was extra excited to see his story play out and to see what mischief his matchmaking mama got up to!
I was surprised that Tristan beats her to the punch by offering his “Foolish Proposal” so early on in the book. But it was so much fun getting to see him try and make up for his blunder as he falls in love with Caro

“No.” Tristan blinked. “No?” he repeated, surprised. “I thank you for the…civil…offer, but I would sooner marry a toad.” He’d not thought she could surprise him further, but it would appear her anger was stronger than he had realized.”

Caroline was in love with her brother’s friend from a young age but he never saw her as anything but James’ little sister. She is now so close to an engagement that will save her family from financial ruin when Tristan shows up and ruins everything.

Throw in a marriage wager amongst friends and increasing pressure to marry and it makes for such a fun story.

“Are you well?”

“Quite well, yes.”

“You needn’t sound so confident, you know. It does not hurt to allow a man to believe he has undone you, just a little.”

“If Caroline was a knitted blanket before, Tristan had unraveled her into a pile of yarn. But the man was confident enough without that bit of information.“

This story also is like a 2 for 1 romance with the bonus of Caroline’s older brother finding romance on the side. 👌🏼

I would definitely recommend this one and the entire series! I cannot wait to see who wins the wager next!

“I would like to flirt with no one else but you for the rest of my life.”

Oh. My. Word!! This story was ridiculously cute. Tristan and Caroline’s HEA was so well earned, and I loved every second of the journey. From childhood friends, to Caroline being totally fed up with Tristan ,to their little charade, and then the moment of realizing how deep the feelings are…well it was an emotional rollercoaster and I was buckled in the whole time!!

Tristan? Swoon. The patience. The devotion. The way he steadily proves he can be the man Caroline needs absolutely melted my heart into a puddle. Every thoughtful step he took just made me love him more.

“Besides,” he looked into her eyes, “if I cannot have you, I do not want anyone.”

And Caroline totally surprised me! I wasn’t sure how she’d handle her family’s situation, but wow—she faced every burden with strength, resilience, and a fierce determination to protect her family, even when it meant sacrificing what her heart wanted. I admired her so much for that.

‘She’d rather marry a toad than Tristan. Yet the way she leaned into him, her reaction while dancing with him, her half-lidded eyes when he whispered into her ear…he rather wondered if she liked toads more than she had led him to believe.’

This is book 3 in the series and can be read as a standalone, but trust me—do yourself a favor and read them in order. This has easily become one of my favorite multi-author projects. The care, heart, and attention these authors poured into their stories truly shows, and the consistency across all the books is just incredible.

On her 4th season, Caroline needs a husband- a wealthy one, to help her family's financial situation. She has one in her sights and things seem to be going well. Until her brother's friend, who she hasn't seen for years, shows up on the night of the awaited proposal. He ruins everything.

Tristan is known as a flirt, and as handsome as he is- it works to his advantage often. Being the 2nd son, by a mere 2 minutes, his financial situation is not strong. He needs to find a wife with a dowry to help his future prospects, as well as to avoid losing a wager with his friends. The last to marry owes the others money he doesn't have to spare.

This is the 3rd book in this series, and they are all fantastic. Each can be read as a stand alone but the intertwining characters are fun. There is humor, lots of humor and a slow burn love blossoming like a late spring flower.

"I thank you for the....civil...offer, but I would sooner marry a toad."

Well, THAT was unexpected. Trying to help had backfired in the worst of ways.

There is a lot of decision making, introspection of feelings, banter, frustration, and of course gossiping matrons that keep this story going strong. I enjoyed the siblings helping each other, good friendships having each others backs, and the realization of what is truly important in life.

"I love you," he breathed. "Have done so since the first moment you released a cunning remark. Your wit and beauty combined were unmatched, and I was lost to you almost at once.”

Oh this was just delightful & I can’t stop smiling. It’s the third book in the Gentlemen’s Gamble series with each book written by a different author. It’s such a fun premise… 7 friends make a wager on who will marry last. The last one to marry will pay each of the others a 100 pounds. It’s years later and three friends have married including Tristan’s twin brother Charlie. Tristan is feeling the pressure and as the second son he can’t afford to lose this bet. So he sets out to find a wife… When he runs into Caroline, his childhood friend’s little sister, things get messy. He accidentally causes her to loose a potential fiancée so he foolishly proposes himself as a replacement. But Caroline would prefer a toad over flirtatious Tristan, who is always teasing. I loved both Tristan & Caroline. It’s sweet and swoony full of fun banter, friendship, family dynamics & will leave you smiling. I’m seriously loving this series and can’t wait to see who is next to fall in love & marry 🤗 If you are looking for a fun regency series this is it but I’d suggest reading them in order.

“You flirt with your eyes as well as with your tongue, Tristan. Do you do it with intent?”

Oh!! This was such a fantastic story with one of my favorite tropes, friend’s little sister! It also has a little bit of a love triangle, family duty, friendship, and romance.

Tristan is charming, determined, and a flirt. He fell hard and fast for Caroline and I was definitely cheering for him to win her heart. I loved the way he fought for Caro and the way he “helped” her in her mission to secure a match. I loved the little glimpses of his Gentlemen friends and his friendship with James. Caroline “Caro” is witty and determined. I loved the banter between Caro and Tristan, I definitely laughed a few times. I especially loved seeing Caro’s annoyance with Tristan change to friendship than more. I was laughing at how drawn to Tristan she was even when she was upset with him. I loved the growth of their feelings and how naturally they developed. And that almost kiss was almost as good as their first kiss! A wonderful story with love winning out in the end.

A few more quotes:
“Besides,” he looked into her eyes, “if I cannot have you, I do not want anyone.”

“I love you,” he breathed. “Have done so since the first moment you released a cunning remark. Your wit and beauty combined were unmatched, and I was lost to you almost at once.”

A Foolish Proposal is part of a multi-author series that are all releasing in a surprise order! Each book can be read as a standalone, but the characters are definitely interconnected!

This is the cute story of Tristan and Caroline whose families have been friends for years! Tristan has a bet with his friends about who will get married last, so he is in a hurry to find a wife! Caroline wants to get married and when she finds out the dire state of her family’s finances, she is determined to marry someone wealthy even if it means she does not love him. When, on a whim, Tristan asks Caroline to marry him to help them both, she is not having it. But, we all know feelings can change…

Oh my! This book was adorable! I loved Tristan and his shameless flirting and Caro’s attempts to resist him! They had such fun banter and I loved seeing their feelings for one another evolve!

Quotes to love:

“She makes a fair point,” Tristan said quietly. “I’m very willing.” Caroline glared at him before putting her hand in his and squeezing hard. If she was trying to punish him for his comment, she had missed the mark. He rather liked the feeling of her hand in his, silk gloves and all.“

“You are a shocking flirt, aren’t you?” Kitty said, entertained. Tristan’s hand gripped his heart as though he’d suffered a pain. “You wound me, madam. I abhor being called a flirt. Everything I say is entirely true.”

“After Caroline took her place, she looked up into Tristan’s eyes, his smile soft and centered on her, and her heart paced rapidly. Oh, dear. She was in trouble, wasn’t she?”

Talk about cuteness, I loved this adorable romance between the charming Tristan and determined Carolyn. These characters were both so likeable and the kind you can get behind and easily cheer for. The dual POV worked so well and I really loved seeing the motivations and emotions of the main characters throughout the story.
Tristan is in a literal race to be married for two reasons: first, a ridiculous wager years before that he does not have the funds to pay up if he were to lose; and second, his twin brother just married suddenly leaving Tristan the next focus of their matchmaking mother. When he runs into his friend's younger sister at a ball and inadvertently disrupts her chances with a suitor, he takes it upon himself to propose. What happens next left me smiling and eagerly turning pages in this five star Regency romance.

Read this for:
*Dual POV
*Tristan who is a delightful charmer and flirt
*Flirty banter
*Little bit of enemies to lovers mixed with brother's best friend and childhood acquaintances tropes
*Happy ever after

This was the perfect size and such a sweet romance read, I highly recommend it.
I also read this book via the audiobook version and enjoyed listening to the story. I recommend the audiobook especially if that way of reading is your thing.

What a fun story! I was so excited for this series and it was such a good one!
Caroline had such a fire to her! She was so loyal to her family and willing to sacrifice for them. I really admired her heart for her friends and family. Caroline knew the structure of society and felt the bounds of her family's needs.
Tristan was a lot of fun! I loved his and Caroline’s banter. He was also struggling with his future and the wager was weighing on him. I loved seeing him get to see Caroline as a grown woman! They had the shared history which gave it depth, but they were able to build a new relationship off of that!
Both Caroline and Tristan were willing to sacrifice for that which they thought was important! I loved seeing them grow together and the way that they were able to overcome. It was also a lot of fun to see the families of both Caroline and Tristan! I loved the sibling relationship between Caroline and James! It was also lovely to see Tristan's family and their support. Overall, this was a sweet story that I really enjoyed! This historical romance has only kissing.
I received an ARC.

This was such a charming, cozy read. From the very first ballroom scene, I was completely swept up in the sparkle of the London Season and the delicious tension between Tristan and Caroline. Their history gives the story a lovely emotional depth, and I adored how their sharp banter slowly softened into something much more tender. The “help each other find a spouse” arrangement is a classic trope, but it’s done here with warmth, humor, and just the right amount of longing.
What really made this book shine for me was watching two stubborn, well-meaning people slowly realize that love has been right in front of them all along. The stolen moments, the awkward matchmaking, and the gradual shift from irritation to affection were all handled so sweetly. This is the kind of romance that leaves you smiling when you close the book—gentle, romantic, and full of heart. Perfect for anyone who loves Regency vibes, slow-burn chemistry, and happily-ever-afters.
Highly recommended!

This couple was an absolute delight to follow from start to finish! I love their banter, humor, and sparring as well as their sweet care for each other as their relationship changes!

As both Caroline and Tristan are in need of spouses, Tristan comes to the conclusion of proposing to Caroline immediately after ruining her chances with another gentleman. Upon her refusal, the two agree to help each other find suitable spouses, with Tristan helping Caroline to win back the man she lost and Caroline agreeing to help Tristan find a wife. The only problem? Their growing feelings for each other.

I was so glad to watch Caroline come to understand that marriage should be a matter of the heart instead of just a matter of duty. It was also nice to watch Tristan determine to do all he could in order to be able to provide for the woman he loves.

Thank you to Kasey for including me on her ARC team! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

How does the author do what she does!? I could hardly put it down! I loved the main characters. I absolutely loved James and so glad he got a good amount of page time. Kitty was hilarious and clever. The main characters, Tristan and Caroline, were witty and just fun to read when they were together. Tristan's humor was infectious. She's a better woman than I am! Those two were equally matched. I loved the suspense of will they/won't they. This series has just been a delight and fabulous so far. I can't wait for the next title. I enjoyed the inclusion of the other friends in the series.
This book had great flow, romantic tension at its finest. (that decleration of love was.the.best.) I loved the world building and historical details to give the story believability and a fullness. The epilogue had me saying Yea!
Fav. line "Caroline relished every moment she was able to touch Tristan's hand or spin besides him."

Casey Stocton, has teamed up with a group of Amazon historical fiction authors.
A foolish proposal is part of the gentleman's gamble book 3
Each book can be read as a stand alone book.

Please be aware that there is mention of past characters.
Personally I have really enjoyed the first three books
And would recommend that you start at the beginning of the series.

Caroline doesn't really think she wants a husband. Caroline is quite contented with books and her home life.
Caroline is rocked out of her cozy life, by her father loosing her bridal price.
Tristan let's loose to her intended beau.
Her dislike of horses.
The engagement with the beau is over .

Tristan now feels he must apologize and find Caroline a husband.
This is where the storey in this book takes off, its serious business finding a partner, missing the obvious.

I received a copy of this book to read, on behalf of the author. It is my choice to leave a review.

Oh my swoony goodness! I love the banter and the heat in this book! I love the misunderstandings and brooding and I love how committed Tristan is to getting what he wants despite the reasons (including Caroline) that are keeping them apart!

Tristan is such a flirt and could make any girl fall for him!! Caroline is kind-hearted, yet has quite a fierce little fire burning inside that one certain dashing gentleman always seems to pull out of her! I laughed out loud a few times while reading their interactions and was so lost in the book I finished it too fast!!

Tristan and Caroline's story is a must read! It'll have you admiring them both and rooting for their happy ending the whole way. And of course, what would the ton be without the match-making mamas and matrons!?! Grab this one as soon as you can!!

Tristan’s off the market, who will lose the wager? The series is so much fun! Seven men racing to the altar in order to avoid losing a wager. In a foolish proposal, we have Tristan, who is the younger twin (by minutes) of Charles. But especially in this era, it makes a big difference because the eldest obviously inherits the bulk of the estate. Tristan will have some inheritance. He needs to find a wife that has a dowry or find some form of employment. Caroline is in her fourth season and has almost procured a offer from a wealthy man. Unfortunately, this union would be more for security than for love.
I love these characters. They knew each other’s children, but the idea of a love forming between them was ludacris, until it wasn’t. There is great banter, the perfect amount of drama, and charming chemistry. We actually get two love stories in this book :) who would say no to that.

The Gentlemen’s Gamble book 3 is now revealed! A Foolish Proposal by Kasey Stockton featuring Tristan and Caroline is one you definitely don’t want to miss out on!

What happens when you run into your brother’s friend at a ball…and with one careless remark… he undoes everything you have been working hard to achieve for the past several months??? Why, you reject him!

This book is so much fun. I love the whole story, but oh my – chapter 1!!!!! The way Tristan and Caroline reconnect, but end up more as enemies, is an enjoyable plot line that brought out the banter, snark, and anticipation of what would happen next. As their adventure unfolds, I love the tender way their affections changed and their ability to never give up and to be happy with what they have! The epilogue is truly fantastic.

YES. That opening chapter was such an amazing setup! Nothing beats wanting the MCs to be together right from the get-go, and I definitely wanted these two to be together. I also love when mutual matchmaking throws two people who never imagined being together...well, together! And the fact that it begins with an impromptu proposal is just fabulous XD The banter between Tristan and Caro was so fun, and I loved the progression of enemies to friends to more with these two. I was so excited to meet Tristan after reading the previous book, and Kasey did not disappoint. He is so charming, and his chemistry with Caro is fantastic. We also get a secondary romance happening with Caro's brother in this book, and I LOVED that. Best friends falling in love at the same time? Say no more. I loved everything about this one

I love this one! It’s such an enjoyable read. The characters are great and the writing is captivating. The last 25% is especially awesome with all the scheming and meddling. I had a huge grin on my face and could not put it down 🤓

It’s funny because there isn’t anything truly unique or compelling about the plot itself. And on the MMC’s side, it’s almost insta-love (though they did know each other as children)… But the writing is SO good that none of that matters. I was hooked and I loved it. I’m also quite certain I will be reading it again some time in the future.

Definitely the best of the series so far (though book 1 is also excellent). Highly recommended!

Content:
There is no foul language or sex, and the violence is minimal. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kissing. There is no mention of faith or God.

I really enjoyed this book by Kasey Stockton! After not having seen each other for years, Tristan and Caroline meet at a ball. Tristan accidentally endangers a proposal that Caroline was very much expecting. Trying to make up for it, he foolishly proposes to her himself. But, it's not a self-less act. He is trying to win a bet with his friends, the last one to marry must pay the others one hundred pounds each. She quickly dismisses the proposal and let's him know she would prefer a toad over him. They are able to find their footing with each other in a truce, where they will help the other find a suitable match. From the beginning the chemistry between Tristan and Caroline is off the charts. I love seeing these two "enemies" turn into something more. Their support of each other, the banter, and tender moments make this book worth the read. I highly recommend it!

This book. I started and finished it the day I got it. I could not get enough!!

I loved getting lost in the pages. Tristan had me laughing and swooning and Caroline was no wilting flower. She had spunk and I loved her bantering with Tristan.

“I thank you for the… civil… offer, but I would sooner marry a toad.”

Yes, Tristan put his foot in his mouth when he reconnects with Caroline, the sister of his best friend, but he more than makes up for it afterwards. I think he might be my favorite.

There was so much sweeping romance, tenderness, and humor that I still can’t get over the smiles when I think of these two. When the flirting turns to feelings.

“Despite every effort to staunch my growing feelings for you, I find they continue to flourish. You have not allowed them to wither and die as they ought, but have continued to feed them, causing me to form a greater attachment each time I am in your company.”

Ugh….. I love this so much!!

Thank you to Kasey Stockton for the copy. All opinions are my own.
