Emma, my love, I’m sitting here in a corner, crying and completely in love after finishing this book.

It starts off intense and somehow just keeps getting better. The emotional tension builds and builds, slowly wrecking you in the best possible way. There’s a moment that absolutely shatters you—and just when you think you’re recovering, that ending hits. I was left speechless, just staring at the page thinking, what just happened? Please, Emma, I need book two yesterday🫠🤣.

This first installment of the duet is told mostly from Indie’s POV, and I loved how the story unfolds through past and present timelines. The way you gradually build the world and reveal what happened between them feels so natural and immersive. Every piece falls into place at the perfect time.

Second chance romance already has me sold—it’s an automatic win for me. But add a badass FMC and an unhinged and protective MMC, and that combination is explosive. They balance each other in such a powerful, addictive way. The chemistry, the tension, the history between them—it’s all executed beautifully.

Emma your writing is stunning. It flows effortlessly and pulls you in from the very first page. I genuinely have nothing negative to say about this book. Nothing. It completely captivated me.

If you love emotional pain, longing, and being emotionally destroyed in the best way, you need to read this. I adore this story, this world, Saint (my new book boyfriend), and Indie. I’m obsessed—and counting down the days until book two.

First off, I'm so grateful to be part of Emma’s ARC street team 🖤 now my view on Vengeance:

The pacing in this book was spot on. From start to finish, it kept pulling me back in, never losing momentum. The MMC and FMC are incredibly well written and genuinely likeable, which made their journey hit harder. Even the side characters felt fleshed out and meaningful, not just background noise.

The storyline and plot aren’t completely unique, but honestly? That didn’t matter. The execution made it shine.
We get human trafficking, assault, revenge, and a broken love, all woven into a story that grips you and refuses to let go.
And that cliffhanger… brutal. The kind that quietly breaks your heart and leaves you staring at the wall after finishing 🖤
The only small downside for me was that at times the love declarations felt a bit repetitive. But aside from that, this book was intense, emotional, and addictive all the way through.

Would absolutely recommend if you love dark romance, with emotional depth, normally grey men and revenge-driven plots.

Out of the fire into the pit 🤭

Saint Blackwood was her whole life until, well, she pushed him away! Six years later through trial and error, Indie and Regina have picked up the pieces of their lives, re-built, trained, planned and executed. That was their goal, to seek vengeance against a society they only know a small part of but their efforts remain a focus they refuse to deter from until they succeed. However, one slip up with their information sends them spiralling into the arms of Ultio, to the boss of the organisation one…Saint Blackwood 👀 Will their love be rekindled? Will the girls get the justice they seek so ardently? What of the Society?

“𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶. 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘥𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘪𝘯
𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘵𝘰
𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶."

I started, I had to sleep, I carried on, that’s how much this storyline draws you in 🤭 Vengeance is book one in the Duet ~’Written in Sin’, you get the background of the two MCs, at first it is from Indie’s POV before we get some of Saint’s. Emma tugs us into the depths of their relationship, the lows and highs, the spice, the plot thickens the more you read and that cliffy 😱 Though I can’t lie I did predict a few of the twists but it just gave me affirmation not take away from the storyline at all, leaving me now dying to read to the next book - Wrath 😬

What in the ever loving fuckery! I’m unwell. EXCUSE ME EMMA?! I have no words. WOW! I need the second book asap!

I was hooked from the jump! This story was impeccable with the perfect balance of character depth, love, yearning, spice and the plotttt! The plot be plotting! Twists and turns that had me gasping and head spinning.

Saint and Indies love is like no other and no matter how much time has passed nothing will change the fact their love is written in the stars.

I can not wait for the second book of this masterpiece and I know it is going to send me in a tail spin in true Emma fashion 🖤

ARC REVIEW |

That ending had my JAW ON THE FLOOR
I didn’t see that coming AT ALL…

I really enjoyed this story. I love a good revenge tour & feminine rage is my jam.

Indie and Regina experienced something no woman should endure and since the justice system failed them, they took matters into their own hands (as they should! ..fictionally of-course)

They uncover a secret society that thinks these heinous acts are fit for their initiations and make it their mission to take them out, one by one.

I may be reading too many dark romance books because I feel like I didn’t witness enough suffering for these evil bastards 🙃

The MMC? Bless him. Who waits 6 years for his girl to find their way back to him? Marry that man right now 🫦

I need Book 2 like my next breath because I have questions that need answers.

Thank you @emmabarrieblairauthor for the ARC ✨

I am currently writing this review from Saint Blackwood’s asylum due to the breakdown this book has given me.

Wow wow wow Saint Daddy Blackwood, this beast of a man takes book boyfriends to another level. He is possessive, unhinged, obsessed and he takes yearning and wanting to another level.

“I’ll always fight for you. Worship you until my dying breath, then search to find you in the next life, just to learn new ways to show my love for you.”

“Indie. I’m not the same one you knew six years ago. If there ever comes a time where you try to push me away again? I won’t walk away. I’ll take you kicking and screaming, because you fucking belong to me.”

𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 𝕕𝕠 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕨𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕗𝕣𝕠𝕞 𝕒 𝕞𝕒𝕟?

Indie Indie Indie….My fierce, possessive, unrelenting, stunning girl.

𝒪𝓃𝓁𝓎 𝒽𝑒 𝒸𝒶𝓃 𝓈𝓊𝓅𝓅𝓁𝓎 𝓂𝑒 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝓉𝒽𝒾𝓈 𝓀𝒾𝓃𝒹 𝑜𝒻 𝒹𝑒𝓈𝒾𝓇𝑒. 𝒪𝓃𝓁𝓎 𝒽𝑒 𝒶𝓇𝑜𝓊𝓈𝑒𝓈 𝒶 𝒻𝓊𝓈𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝑜𝒻 𝒻𝑒𝒶𝓇 𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝒹𝑒𝓈𝒾𝓇𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝓃𝑒𝓋𝑒𝓇 𝓂𝒶𝓀𝑒𝓈 𝓂𝑒 𝓆𝓊𝑒𝓈𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 𝓂𝓎 𝓈𝒶𝒻𝑒𝓉𝓎. 𝐵𝑒𝒸𝒶𝓊𝓈𝑒 𝓉𝒽𝒶𝓉’𝓈 𝓌𝒽𝒶𝓉 𝒮𝒶𝒾𝓃𝓉 𝒾𝓈 𝓉𝑜 𝓂𝑒. 𝐻𝑒’𝓈 𝓂𝓎 𝓅𝑒𝓇𝓈𝑜𝓃𝒶𝓁 𝒶𝓈𝓎𝓁𝓊𝓂.

“I want you to fuck me like you hate the sight of me. For all the pain I caused you. To us,” I wet my lips, “serve me my punishment, Saint, make me pay for all the years we lost.”

𝐼’𝒹 𝒷𝑒 𝓁𝓎𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝓉𝑜 𝓂𝓎𝓈𝑒𝓁𝒻 𝒾𝒻 𝐼 𝒹𝒾𝒹𝓃’𝓉 𝒶𝒹𝓂𝒾𝓉 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓈𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉 𝑜𝒻 𝒽𝒾𝓂 𝒾𝓈 𝓊𝓉𝓉𝑒𝓇𝓁𝓎 𝒹𝑒𝓋𝒶𝓈𝓉𝒶𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔.

𝐻𝑒 𝓁𝑜𝑜𝓀𝓈 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝒮𝒶𝓉𝒶𝓃’𝓈 𝒻𝒶𝓋𝑜𝓊𝓇𝒾𝓉𝑒 𝓈𝑜𝓁𝒹𝒾𝑒𝓇 𝒶𝓈 𝒾𝓉 𝓇𝒾𝓈𝑒𝓈 𝒻𝓇𝑜𝓂 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒻𝒾𝓇𝑒𝓈 𝑜𝒻 𝒽𝑒𝓁𝓁 𝒷𝑒𝓃𝑒𝒶𝓉𝒽 𝓊𝓈.

I mean if I haven’t convinced you to read this masterpiece just please read the next quote

“I’m your salvation, Indie, darling. Now get on your knees. I want to hear you moan my name like a prayer around my cock.”

——————

In all seriousness this book is beautifully written, I honestly couldn’t put it down I even took my kindle to the toilet with me. Chapter 35 and 36 had me literally salivating on my kindle I had to wipe the screen. The story line had me in a chokehold and the cliffhanger snapped my brain in half, I am now currently rocking in the corner on the floor because WHAT.

If I don’t immediately get wrath I will take a person hostage and start giving Emma demands.

Karma’s a bitch, and her name is Indie Kent.

Thank you for offering me this amazing reading opportunity. Ever since reading Ashfall by this author, I am just eager for more of her work. I enjoy her story telling that is mixed with romance and darker themes. I also enjoy her comedic banter between the characters. They're just loveable and relatable to.

And the slooooooow burn is just sooooooo good.💕

Honestly, I'm disappointed...
...disappointed I need to wait to find out what happens in book 2!

I really enjoyed reading Vengeance. The main characters are written well so you really understand what motivates them. The book dips back in time to give some of their history but not in a confusing way, it's actually perfect and I think gives some good hints of what is to come as you keep reading.

As much as the plot is quite dark I didn't find it difficult to read. It wasn't like some books where you really have to fight your way through the gritty chapters to get through the the story. I felt the topics were dealt with sensitively while still giving enough detail with an emphasis on the characters' emotions for the reader to understand the impact of what has happened.

As for the spice, I was not left disappointed. While the sexual tension and spice was a prominant aspect of the book, it didn't take away from the plot.

I'm not sure whether to feel lucky or unlucky to have been given an ARC of this book as it means I have longer to wait for Wrath! Looking forward to book 2 of Written in Sin!

I received Vengeance in return for an honest review from the author.

Indie and Saint were in love till the night everything changed suddenly they are no longer talking and each of them has learned to cope with that night. Each going in different ways but both with the same agenda. When a mission sends Indie back into Saint's world sparks fly. Will they be able to repair what's lost?

I love Indie and Regina they have turned what happened into changing the lives of those who are hurt. They are some tough girls and the fact that Indie takes care of the problems as they hunt those who hurt them I just love a female vigilante. Saint is kind of perfect for Indie he's a total good guy next door but also able to destroy anyone who hurts her. They have this undeniable chemistry that just works and even after years it's still sizzling.

I'm a tad bit obsessed with the authors books this is my second book and each one just get's better and better. This is a cliffy and I was screaming at my kindle when it finished because wow what an ending. I was hooked right form the first page and almost stayed up all night reading but finished it first thing. I enjoyed every moment of the story and can't wait to get my hands on the next one. The author is a beautiful storyteller she's created a emotional right that left me dying for more. I loved every moment of the story, even though it ripped out my soul and left me shattered. Highly recommend if you enjoy dark romance.

Saint freaking Blackwood. That's it. That's the review... okay, I'm kidding but he is HIM. I went into this knowing very little about it as well as little about Emma. However, I was IMMEDIATELY hooked in and it kept be guessing all the way to the end. Emma can't get rid of me now. Saint, Indie, and their friends have known each other since they were kids. It takes until Saint's senior for him and Indie to really get together. Some really unfortunate circumstances happen which causes them to break up (which hurt my heart btw). When they cross paths later, they uncover how they are now connected from things going on that have been going on for a long time. The mystery around the secret society, what happened to the FMC Indie and the rebuilding process between their relationship was captivating and beautifully written. Indie is a freaking baddie too. She's grown into her own over this time and she's one of my favorite FMCs I've read. I also loved the side characters that we get to meet. Rex had me giggling occasionally. I was edge of my seat and you will be too if you give this book a read. It does end on a cliffhanger (which I read at 2:30 a.m. and had to scold Emma for) but it makes you really excited and guessing for Book 2.

P.S. You know I had to go with a spicy quote for this because... well, Saint. I'm looking forward to more POVs from him and of course all the spice.

THIS BOOK 😩 go read it NOW ‼️‼️

Emma has not disappointed me once with her books and I need Wrath to come out yesterday! that ending 👀 had me wanting to go on a war path of Vengeance like Indie 🤣💀

This book will keep you entertained from the beginning to end and have you trying to piece everything together. Indie and Saint are morally grey goals 🤣 I love them both so much and their story is one I will remember.

Indie is such a strong willed FMC with everything she went through with her best friends and what they built as a result was amazing. And I can’t wait to see where her story goes in the second book!

Saint, man I wish i could meet him 🫣 touch her & 💀 isn’t a suggestion with him, it’s something he will not hesitate to do and did even when they weren’t together. That man will do anything for Indie and I LOVE it!

You will not regret reading this book!!

First of all that ending was brutal😱 I need book two right now. And second I also need a Jenna and Rex book.

I really enjoyed reading this ARC. It's my first book I read from Emma and I definitely will read more. She has a fast paced writing style that flows naturally and is easy to follow. Loved the mix between the past and present. It was a great way to learn to know everything there is to.

The MMC stole my heart. What a sweetheart! It comes with the name I guess 🤭 Also loved the FMC and her whole revenge vibe. The friendships/found family were also sticking out for me. Real ride or die vibe and I love that vibe.

Highly recommend it if you like a dark romance, but check your triggers first!

OMG. That ending.

A cliffhanger? Really?! After all that build up you’re just going to leave me hanging like that? Gah. I need the next book immediately because I am not okay.

Vengeance had me hooked from the start, but that last chapter? Rude. Completely rude.

I love a strong female lead, and Indie is an absolute badass. She’s focused, driven, and out for revenge and she doesn’t apologize for it. Watching her step into her power and refuse to back down was one of my favorite parts of this book.

And Saint? He will do anything for Indie. Anything. That kind of loyalty paired with all the tension and chaos unfolding around them made it impossible to put down.

This story builds and builds, pulling you deeper with every chapter, and just when you think you can breathe boom. Cliffhanger.

After reading the sensational book that was Emma’s debut, Ashfall, words could not describe the excitement I had for Vengeance and let me tell you this book had me in the same chokehold Ashfall did.
~
Emma has the ability to reel you in so deeply that you can’t get through the words she’s written quick enough. The world building is EVERYTHING in her books as is her ability to make you fall head over heels for all her key characters.
~
Vengeance is rammed full of drama, emotion, intensity and urgh the spice finishes it off perfectly. This book is a the first book of the Written in Sin Duet and it wets your appetite in prep for when Book 2 arrives!
~
This story had me in a chokehold from the dedication and it kept me there until the gasp that left my mouth at the ending, because I need Book 2 like yesterday 😂
~
Another incredible book Emma 🖤🖤
~
There are some dark themes mentioned throughout this book, so if you have triggers please check the warnings before diving it because this book does not hold back.

Vengeance by Emma Barrie-Blair [ARC REVIEW]
★★★★☆
4/5 stars
Release date: March 6th, 2026

Pain drove them apart until they each became a weapon that the other could wield.

IF YOU LIKE:
• Second chance romance
• Chemistry and spice
• Morally grey characters
• Violence and feminine rage
• Corruption and comeuppance
• When both MCs are dangerous
YOU’LL LOVE Vengeance

≪ Saint is forever etched in my heart. Weaved so deeply into its threads that to unpick them would be to unravel the last part of me that survived. ≫

HIGHLIGHTS:
• Saint Blackwood
→ Saint is one of the hottest MMCs I’ve read in recent memory. I’m a sucker for a morally grey man and I run towards red flags like a bull in a ring, but when Saint stepped to the side I realized that his flags are only red from one side. He is a veritable minefield of green flags: from his devotion to his passion to his genuine respect and desire for full and complete consent, Saint is truly the furthest thing from “dark”... except for his day job. It’s entertaining to watch him call himself the devil when we’ve seen over and over that he’s the furthest thing from it; but what’s really interesting is how he can exist fully in that liminal grey area between perfect and problematic. He’s dark, violent, and has skeletons buried in his very soul, but he’s also genuinely GOOD. Vengeance asks us to weigh action versus intent, ends versus means, and Saint is the character left holding up both sides of the scale.

• Indie, Regina, and Egnever
→ And while we’re speaking about grey areas—let’s talk about feminine rage, comeuppance, and the weight of being the one person who shoulders the burden of revenge to protect everyone else. Indie and Regina were both horribly traumatized, both damaged (almost) beyond repair; but together they turned their pain into protection and justice for others who were hurt the same way. As a team, they put up walls between their work and the people they help, to withhold the burden of guilt… and then Indie puts up even more, to protect Regina from the blood that stains her hands. The psychological compartmentalization that Indie uses to give her the strength to do what needs to be done is brutal to read but beautifully compelling, and as we watch her cycle through her different layers of numbness throughout the book we learn that Indie never really healed. She scarred.

• The painful realism of Sumus and Omnia
→ Whether it was intentional or an accident of timing, there’s no denying that the world built around Sumus and Omnia is uncomfortably relevant to today’s societal climate. The fictional state of Kingstone is built around a corrupt and rotten core, sickening and brutal. While Indie dances along the sidelines of Sumus, it’s incredibly clear that there is so much more that she hasn’t yet confronted, even before the next level of corruption and power is revealed. The darkness beneath the surface is so richly and realistically developed that I had to contend with a deep, sick feeling of dread for the back half of the book. The book ends on a cliffhanger that is beautifully foreshadowed and yet still hit me out of nowhere—not because I couldn’t see it coming, but because I didn’t want to BELIEVE it was coming.

• The structure and pacing
→ Vengeance is told through present-day chapters and flashback chapters. The flashbacks came exactly when they were needed, and they built up the relationship between Saint and Indie perfectly, while still allowing the main story to carry forward. We got to see their origins, their passion, their love, and their collapse; by the time Indie and Saint were reunited, we had been given the complete story and I was immediately ready to see them get back together. We were BLESSEDLY not forced to wade through miscommunications once they got back together—the chemistry carried them forward into each other like a tidal wave. They really felt like exes who never fell out of love, even though the circumstances around their reconnection were unbelievably tense and complex. The pacing and structure are what make the love story sing, a beautiful harmony on top of the violence and justice that drive the plot.

≪ Indie Kent is my unwavering, unhealthy, and undying obsession. I could experience a multitude of time loops and lifetimes. I’d find her in every single one. It’s never changed, and it never will. Everything I’ve done since we separated is all for her. ≫

WISHLIST:
• Steadier writing
→ There were times throughout this book that I found myself feeling like Indie was skipping around, her thoughts jumbled and difficult to wade through. This could have been a deliberate narration technique, but it seemed to happen randomly, without any triggering action to set it off; it just felt like Indie would wander away into these short, staccato phrases that jumped between thoughts without any transitions, and those moments were a little jarring and pulled me out of the action when they happened. The writing was quite good and very solid throughout, aside from these small, jumping moments.

≪ “Those stars you’re seeing? Those ones belong to us sinners, not the sky. They shine only because of our darkness.” ≫

Overall Rating: 4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨
Spice: 2.5 🌶️🌶️ (generous 3, SLOW BURN) I want more lol. The spice that was here was great - this is more about the quantity than the quality, quality was 🔥🤌🏻

Let me just grab my chin from the floor here before I get started...

This is my first book by Emma Barrie-Blair, and I can't wait to read Wrath (book 2 in The Written In Sin Duet)! I enjoyed this book quite a bit, one of my favorites so far this year. You can tell that too because I'm almost exclusively an audiobook person, unless a book really captures my attention, and Vengeance certainly did! Her writing was fantastic at creating images in your mind.

"Scarlet liquid drips onto the crystalware, spreading the shards out like a pocket of the rarest diamonds."

Just one of many examples that made this story play out in your mind.

First, we're introduced to Indie, who we learn from the get-go is out for vengeance (see what I did there 🫠). I love a strong FMC full of snark who takes matters into her own hands, not dependent on others to do it for them. If that's your jam, you'll love Indie. She's the badass bff you never knew you needed.

We also have Saint Blackwood, who, as we read, we're sure he's more sinner than Saint. He is full of fire and passion for those he loves. He initially comes across as your typical broody heart throb love interest, but as you continue to read, you discover he's so. much. more. I loved reading about Saint and finding out more of his story; it's so much more in-depth than you'd ever guess.

Not only is there a great cast of characters, but the plot is so addictive. You never quite know what is coming next, which makes this such an enjoyable read. As soon as I thought I had something figured out, I'd learn something new that would completely change my thought process.

This book does end on quite a cliff-hanger, thankfully, Wrath is coming out soon on May 29th!!

I will say some dark elements in this story may be challenging for some readers. With that in mind, please make sure you check out the trigger warnings; your mental health is important.

You can find the trigger warnings for Wrath and Emma's other books on her website: https://emmabarrieblair-author.com/pa...

Note: I had never heard of this book or author, but saw that she was looking for ARC Readers for book 2, Wrath (coming soon!!), on The Dark Romance Team IG account. I read what Wrath was about and was instantly interested. ARC Readers, however, had to have read the first book, Vengeance (Written in Sin Part 1), to ARC review. I was so interested in Wrath that I went and devoured Vengeance and am reviewing it now. Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to ARC read Wrath, but you can bet even if I don't, I'll be reading it the day it comes out! I'm dying to see what happens! We do end Vengeance on a cliffhanger, you have been warned! 🤣

If perfection could be bound in pages, this would be it!!
This book is a f*cking masterpiece 😩✋🏻
Straight-up 5 ⭐, say less!

If you're fed up with women being violated and have an urge to deliver justice this book is for you!
Just reading this book makes me so powerful the FMC in this book is a menace 🔥

The story is set in the modern day and the world building is awesome! But the mention of secret society and hierarchy gives an ancient / historical vibe.

The whole city is controlled by this secret society and is thoroughly corrupted through & through. Women are being drugged, used & also auctioned it's all messed up.
Indie the FMC of this book, being the victim of such a vile thing along with her bsf decides to take revenge and provide justice to other women just like them.....Until, they get scammed into assassinating her star-crossed lover, Saint.
A reunion like this?? Never expected it to be so tragic!! 😭
Saint on the other hand is depicted mysterious throughout the book only to reveal he's also a rebel against this secret society.
They both join hands on bringing the society down but the story ends in a Cliffhanger and the ending is totally unexpected 👀 never in a million years would I have know she'd be alive like that 💀 Holy hell what in the plot twist was that........Though I'm feeling happy for Rex now 🥹.

The drama, constant suspense & thrill that unfolds throughout the book is to die for!
There is a seamless transition between the past and present i.e. before the incident & after which constantly keeps you on edge. 😩🔥

Apart from the chemistry between the main characters, he calls her 'Indie darling' 🫠, I also love the connection between Gina & Dawson, they are adorable tech geeks 🥹 Would want to read more of them in the upcoming book 😩❤️

If only I had unlimited words to rant Abt this book.....

My fav lines:
"Did he get you upset?"
"A little"
"Then I want a name."
“No, I won’t forget it. Do I have to fuck it out of you? Because trust me, if I have to make you scream another man’s name, he’s fucking dead.”
( This whole scene is so sexy & cute at the same time, love it)

“No offence, Dawson, really. But I want to hear it from his fucking mouth. No one else.”

That’s the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen.
(See I told you the FMC is feisty af & i love it 🔥)

“Calm your pecks, sunshine. We’re having a moment,”
(Love this line, i laughed so hard at this 🤣)

"I need you to get this back in your head, darling. Seeing as that wasn’t clear enough.”
“I love you more than those stars bleed for the night. More than the sun’s need to burn from its core. I never stopped, Indie. There wasn’t a second gone by where your name wasn’t whispered in my mind like a cruel curse.”

( I fucking need a tattoo of this 😭🥹)

Thankyou Author Emma for this marvellous ARC !! 🤩

You finally sit down to tackle your TBR. You crack open the first page of Vengeance by Emma Barrie-blair. Then you’re hit with this dedication:

“If the fire within your soul feels as hot as hell, maybe you're still in love with the devil.”

Did anyone else just get actual chills? No? Just me? Well, no mind, you're going to want to buckle up, because this book does not play around.

Let me introduce you to the main characters:

First, we have Indie. On the surface she appears somewhat reserved. But she’s got a fire in her that most people miss. (Oh, but that fire turns hot in the bedroom).

Then there’s Saint, the crush. He has a British accent that would (who doesn’t love a foreign accent), “make the alphabet sound hot.” He’s a mystery taking lots of "business trips" for his dad that definitely aren't for networking. Oh, and did I say he's a looker?

pining, check. Angst, check. Innocent romance, check. Honestly? Us dark romance girls will definitely be on hold until the darkness kicks in. Don’t worry that darkness starts to seep through the cracks when Indie and her friends get invited to a graduation party. But this isn't your typical, get drunk, do something you'll regret in the morning type of party. Nope, it's an elite party, the kind only the privileged get invited to. Naturally, curiosity wins (spoiler: it shouldn’t have). Because this isn’t a party for the girls, it's part of a secret society initiation. And it is exactly as messed up as you’re imagining.

Indie becomes lost in her trauma, becoming a shell of herself, empty and lost. Healing from trauma doesn’t look the same on everyone. It is messy. Indie, unable to be past the darkness that’s enveloped her, pushes Saint away until he eventually leaves.

But she doesn’t stay down. She finds her crown, dusts it off, and starts wearing it like the Queen she is.
Her bestie and her take a path of vengeance, leaving a bloody trail behind them.
Gina: The tech genius keeping them off the grid.
Indie: The one knocking on your door when you’ve been a very, very bad boy.

When Saint and Indie finally cross paths again, it’s not you cute, “Oh, hi. How've you been?” Coffee shop encounter. Oh no, it's more bullets flying, a chase through the woods, and a surprise visit to a safe house. It’s second-chance romance steeped in blood and a darkness that calls to its counterpoint.

As Saint says:
“To become something so hauntingly beautiful, one must survive the darkness… She’s just turned herself into a beautiful little monster.”
And my personal favorite:
“I’m the fucking devil, darling. And I’m ready to claim what’s mine.”

You came for the spice, and stayed for the "eat the rich" vengeance. Be prepared, the ending will have screaming at the ceiling. That cliffhanger is a literal crime. FML.

What to expect

OMG this book was sooo good!

We follow our FMC Indie Kent, who went through a traumatic event in her 20's. This book jumps from the past to the present. And I love that. We get to read about what happened to her back then and that helps us understand the mission she has set herself now.
I loved Indie's character; she has been through hell and is still standing. She is a woman on a mission and she's confident in herself. A total badass, who you wouldn't want to mess with.

Indie and her bestie Regina have joined together to bring down a secret society that is hurting women, after both of them were attacked and finding more women in the same situation and no one would do anything about it they decided they would bring them all down.

Our MMC Saint, was Indie's boyfriend when she got attacked. He was there for her after, until she told him she needed space to heal. So, he respects her decision and tells her he will wait for her. 😍

6 years later he is still waiting for his girl🫠, while also trying to bring down the same organization.
Oh what a man! I loved Saints character. He knew Indie was the one woman for him. He is the total package, he is strong, thoughtful, respectful and a total hottie🔥

When the two reconnect, it is an emotional reunion and neither one of them was expecting it. And are both very different people from who they remember.

"She's just turned herself into a beautiful little monster."

"I haven't been able to fu@king breathe without you."

" I love you more then anything, Indie. You are my rapture, darling. But make no mistake, corrupting you comes as a close second."

Just when you think this book couldn't get any better it draws you in again and again.
The pacing was perfect throughout the entire book.

The plot was great. Its dark and emotional and giving revenge!

Loved the dual POV, the beginning is solely Indie's POV but after they reconnect, we get Saints POV, and I love seeing inside both of their heads.

The perfect amount of spice in this book. Their relationship is wild and possessive.

And that ending 🤯 when a got to 90% I had a horrible feeling, and I was stressed!
Sitting on the edge of my seat! And wow that was not what I thought was going to happen it was worse!

Cannot recommend this book enough.

I’m so grateful to be part of Emma’s ARC street team; it’s an absolute privilege! 🖤

After being obsessed with Ashfall, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Vengeance. I just knew it would be a book to devour, but I forced myself to savour every page.

Emma’s writing style is addictive, and her characters are simply delicious. The raw emotion she draws from her cast sends you on an unforgettable rollercoaster. Vengeance does not hold back. This is a slow-burning, second-chance romance woven with dark, gripping themes. The story is packed with action, delivering twists and turns.

Indie is on a mission to reclaim her life by hunting down the men who stole everything from her and her best friend, Regina—their sanity, their peace, and the one man who utterly consumed Indie’s heart. She pushed Saint Blackwood away, believing he could never truly want her. Six years later, Indie and Regina have become a formidable team: Regina is the brains, Indie is the muscle, and together they’ve exacted vengeance on members of a secret society, helping other women along the way. But one misstep with their intel sends them spiralling straight into the arms of Ultio, the organisation’s enigmatic boss, none other than Saint Blackwood.👀

Saint might call himself the devil, but his heart is claimed by one woman alone. He’s a tattooed, hulking Soul Destroyer, the ultimate blend of danger, devotion, and devastating allure. Carrying on his father’s legacy, he hunts the monsters of the secret society, ridding the world of the truly depraved. Even when he’s pushed away, Saint never stops protecting those he loves, working from the shadows if he must. Indie is his greatest addiction, and now that she’s back in his arms, he’s not letting go, no matter how fiercely she resists. He’s a total daddy and deliciously unhinged in all the best ways, never shying away from drawing out Indie’s own darkness.

And that ending?! I was absolutely floored—my heart nearly stopped! 🖤🖤

Vengeance is packed with drama, emotion, intensity, and, let’s be real, the spice is just perfection. As the first book in the Written in Sin Duet, it leaves you desperate for more and perfectly sets the stage for Book 2. I can officially say I’m obsessed with this duology, and I am counting down the days until Wrath arrives!

If you love dark romance that feels emotionally raw, obsessive, and drenched in tension, then Vengeance absolutely delivers. Emma Barrie-Blair creates a story that is heavy with grief, revenge, secrets, and morally gray emotions, while still weaving in a romance that feels dangerously addictive.
At the center of the story is Indie Kent, a heroine shaped by pain and trauma rather than innocence. What makes her compelling is that she doesn’t simply survive what happened to her — she becomes something sharper because of it. The book explores the way vengeance can consume a person, and the emotional weight behind Indie’s choices makes her feel layered and believable instead of overly dramatic.
The atmosphere is one of the strongest parts of the novel. Every chapter carries this dark, simmering tension that keeps you waiting for the next revelation. The secret society elements, emotional manipulation, obsession, and hidden motives all create a haunting vibe that fits perfectly within the dark romance genre. Emma Barrie-Blair writes with a style that feels cinematic, emotional scenes hit hard, and the chemistry between the characters burns slowly before exploding.
What really stands out is the emotional intensity. This is not a light romance. The relationships are messy, possessive, and fueled by pain as much as attraction. The angst is constant, but it works because the story fully commits to its darkness instead of softening it. Readers who enjoy morally gray characters, emotional torment, and revenge driven plots will probably get completely pulled into this world.
The pacing can feel slower in some sections because the story leans heavily into atmosphere and emotional buildup, but for many dark romance readers, that slow unraveling is part of the appeal. The mystery and emotional tension keep the story engaging even during quieter moments.
Overall, Vengeance is a gripping start to what feels like a very addictive duet. It’s dark, emotional, obsessive, and full of the kind of tension that keeps you thinking about the characters long after finishing. If you enjoy secret societies, revenge arcs, morally gray love interests, and emotionally destructive romance, this is definitely worth adding to your TBR.

Emma has delivered an absolute masterclass in emotional tension with Vengeance, the first installment of the Written in Sin duet. This story builds and builds, slowly wrecking the reader in the best possible way through a perfectly executed second-chance romance. By weaving together past and present timelines primarily from Indie’s perspective, the world-building feels natural and immersive, allowing every secret to fall into place at exactly the right moment. The narrative structure is particularly impressive, as the dual timelines allow the reader to truly feel the weight of what happened between the protagonists, making their eventual reunion feel both inevitable and high-stakes.
Indie is the definition of a badass FMC who, alongside Regina, has spent six years picking up the pieces to seek vengeance against a society they only partially understand. However, one slip-up sends them spiraling directly into the arms of Ultio and its formidable boss, Saint Blackwood. The dynamic between a determined heroine and an unhinged, protective hero is nothing short of explosive. Saint and Indie’s love feels written in the stars, and their chemistry—rooted in years of pining and "find you in the next life" energy—practically bleeds off the page. Saint is the ultimate protective MMC, and his devotion to Indie provides an addictive contrast to the dark, dangerous world they inhabit.
The balance of character depth, spice, and a plot that is constantly "plotting" is handled with expert precision. While I predicted a few of the twists, the execution was so polished that it only gave me affirmation rather than detracting from the story. I was hooked from the jump, even losing sleep because the storyline draws you in so effectively. This book is a beautiful, impeccable blend of yearning and intensity that leaves you gasping by the final page. After that cliffhanger, I am officially obsessed and counting down the days until Wrath to see if these characters finally get the justice they seek so ardently.

Oh. My. God.
I AM UNWELL. SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP AT THAT ENDING.

THIS WAS INSANEEEEE. I am literally so obsessed i cannot cope. Emma has done it AGAIN and left us alllllll on that ending?!?!?!

Urgh, this book was pure perfection. I cried, laughed, got angry, sad, happy and also kicked my feet in the process!!!! I was obsessed with allllll these characters from the first page. The book flowed so well, i didn't have the feeling to put it down. I was into the whole thing.

The story was 🤌🤌🤌 my jaw was literally on the floooor! It was a perfect balance of plot, character development, love, spice and the yearning? 🤤🤤 IN LOVE.

LETS TALK CHARACTERS 🔥🔥🔥

Indie?! Oh my god. She is THAT girl. I loved her character so much. The way in the beginning, she is a girl in love, not really a bad bone in her body. Until she goes through the unthinkable. Her story was heartbreaking but the REVENGE???? Are you kidding me??? The GROWTH from her was insane to read. It was perfectly written. Her character devloped so well, it was a literal joy to read.

Saint 🔥
The MMC. The grumpy, broody strong man who will do anything for the woman he loves. He was insanely loyal and unhinged in the best way possible.

Side note, the side characters were also a joy to read. They were all so lovable. I was fully into the story and honestly it's everything i look for in a book. It has dark themes and a dark story line but again, it's written to perfection.

This book is a second chance romance but is a slow burn which i loved. I loved the way to story switched between the past and the present. It really gave the readers a full insight as to what happened in the past and it aligned really well with what was happening in the present. It wouldn't be Emma's book without some heartbreak. There is secrets and lies, betrayal, dark twists and so much more.

🔥“You will, eventually. I just need to set their world alight first, and trust me, it’ll fucking burn.”
💭“I’m the fucking devil, darling. And I’m ready to claim what’s mine
🤭 “Because no one. Upsets my fucking woman.”

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Vengeance by Emma Barrie-Blair after absolutely loving her debut, Ashfall. Once again, she did not disappoint!

Vengeance delivers exactly what the title promises: a gripping story driven by two incredibly strong main characters, both fueled by their own thirst for revenge. What I loved most is how layered their motivations feel. Their pain, their anger, their determination—it all feels raw and real, which makes their journey impossible to look away from. You don’t just read their story, you experience it with them.

The pacing is smooth and addictive. The book flows effortlessly, making it one of those stories you tell yourself you’ll read “just one more chapter” of… and then suddenly it’s 2 a.m. The plot is engaging and entertaining throughout, with enough tension and emotional weight to keep the stakes high. While the ending didn’t completely shock me—I did pick up on a certain twist fairly early on—it didn’t lessen my enjoyment at all. The ending just made me want to read more ASAP. Unfortunately I need to wait until Wrath gets released somewhere this year.

Overall, I genuinely loved every moment of this book. Emma Barrie-Blair has officially become one of my new favorite authors. She has proven once again that she knows exactly how to craft compelling characters.

Now I’m counting down the days until I can get my hands on the final book in this duet—because if it’s anything like Vengeance, I already know I’m in for something special. And I just need to know what will happen…

Vengeance is a story about revenge, but even more about pain, trauma, and the lasting impact of broken trust.

This first book in the duet is told primarily through Indie’s perspective, which made the emotional impact even stronger. Experiencing the story through her eyes allows you to truly feel every fracture, every lingering wound. The narrative shifts between past and present, and I loved how seamlessly those timelines blend together. The truth unfolds gradually, revealing what happened between them piece by piece. Nothing feels forced. Every revelation lands exactly when it should, making the story feel immersive and carefully constructed.

The book doesn’t shy away from heavy themes. It weaves together elements of exploitation, violence, revenge, and a love that has been shattered by trauma. These darker subjects aren’t there for shock value , they shape the emotional core of the story. The weight of what happened lingers in every interaction, in every decision made.

What stood out most to me were the characters. They’re flawed and hurting, and their decisions aren’t always easy to accept, but they feel real. You understand where their anger comes from. You see how deeply everything has marked them.

The writing has a quiet intensity that keeps you turning the pages. This isn’t a light romance. It’s layered, emotionally heavy, and morally complex.

If you enjoy darker stories where love and revenge collide and nothing is simple or clean, this one will definitely stay with you.

Thanks to Emma Barrie-Blair for providing the eARC. This is my honest opinion.

A Vow Written in Smoke

‘Vengeance’ feels like stepping into a room where the air is already hot and the door locks behind you.

Indie Kent is not written to be saved. She is written to survive, and there is a difference you can feel in your chest while reading. Grief sits under every choice she makes, not as a soft ache, but as something sharpened into purpose. The story leans into that corrosion, watching a heart turn harder, darker, and strangely clearer with every boundary she crosses.

What worked so well for me is how the danger is not only outside of her. The secret society atmosphere gives the plot its teeth, but the real tension comes from the psychological push and pull, the way desire can look like power, and power can look like a trap. Saint brings an unhinged edge that keeps every scene buzzing, and the chemistry has that forbidden, volatile quality where one touch feels like it could be comfort or combustion.

Pacing wise, this is built to binge. It moves with a steady escalation, stacking secrets, tightening the stakes, and rewarding curiosity with reveals that keep the momentum alive. Emma Barrie Blair’s writing is crisp and immersive, with a dark, seductive tone that makes even quiet moments feel charged.

This one does not ask for forgiveness. It asks how far someone will go once they stop wanting to be good, and that question lingers long after the last page.

[Now here stands two tortured souls, who despite being separated by time, know each other better than anyone else in the world.]

Vengeance is Book 1 in the Written in Sin Duet by Emma Barrie-Blair and whewwwwyyyyy I’m impatiently waiting for Wrath. This book is for the dark romance lovers, if you are sensitive to certain topics, I encourage you to read the content warnings before you get into this one, because it’ll grab you – in a good way (as long as you’re comfortable with some of the heavier pieces of this plotline)

It's been about a week since I’ve read Vengeance and I can’t stop thinking about it. The first half of the book focuses on the FMC Indie, and her best friend Regina as they set out their mission to seek revenge on those who targeted them in University. They are a bad ass pairing and I’m so excited to see what kind of WRATH they bring in book 2. (Heh, see what I did there?)

Throughout the story, we read it in a dual timeline. After the night that changed everything, Indie pushed Saint away and this man did. It was “what she wanted” kind of thing. Turns out he was raised into a business that ultimately reunited them, and now that he had her again… well he wasn’t making that same mistake. Saint and Indie are going to light it up with their team in book 2, but who can we trust? Because I have my eye on Indie’s SUS-ASS sister, does she actually have Indie’s best interest, or is she just as scummy as many politicians and can’t be trusted? I NEED TO KNOW.

Vengeance is filled with angst and yearning, and it’s sweet and spicy. I’m so glad my friend made such beautiful edits on Instagram to promote Vengeance, because now I endeavour to be as bad ass as Indie and Regina are.

What to expect:
Dark romance
Vigilante FMC
Unhinged MMC
Dark secret society
Angsty and Yearning
Check content warning because your mental health is important <3

I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of Vengeance, and I am providing my honest review. Thank you, Emma Barrie-Blair, for the opportunity.
