Whoa, I’m speechless at how this ended, and of course it ended in a jaw-dropping way. In the third installment of this series, there are bittersweet reunions, hidden truths unfurling, and unspeakable twists. The amount of tension in this book was unreal. You see new relationships evolving while others begin to question whether they’re even on the same team.
This series is a slow burn of clues that eventually come together into a collective reveal, and I love when a book has me second-guessing myself. This one had me clutching my pearls for dear life. Like I’ve said before, J.F. Johns is not afraid to mess with her characters. So no one is truly safe...

3.5⭐️ Mal & Ash find they must go their own routes and honestly I don’t envy either route. Neither one was easy and as the olives moved forward I found myself in a struggle to wanting the to get back together. I started to question literally everything a few times.
Thanatos I feel like there was a hate to love relationship I had with him throughout the book. He, although is Death himself, started to show more and more humanity at least as it came to Mal. Whereas everyone else I either fully loved or fully hated! No in between there. I have such a great appreciation for being able to follow each character and their storyline. I have been committed to all of their journeys and rooting for them! Most in particular Kai and Dawn!
The tension rising and the heartache that occurs multiple times brings this book to one of my favorite plot driven books. This book brings you into the world and connect with each and every character. I am on pins and needles based on the ending in NEEDING to devour the next book to know what happens next.

Epic, truly epic. And honestly, why is no one talking about this series? With every chapter, some threads coil tighter while others finally loosen, and the emotional tension never lets up.
All these broken characters are forced to endure more than seems fair—betrayal, vengeance, hate, love—and every choice cuts deeper. There are no innocents only survivors!
The author leans fully into the cruelty and the shades of grey. No one escapes unscathed, least of all my heart. The emotional layering is masterful; the world feels so heavy and lived-in that even the quiet moments ache. Like Ash, I find myself clinging to a single silver lining in a vast ocean of sorrow… and I still can’t look away.
The story-weaving is complex but never convoluted, and the impact lingers. I cannot wait for the conclusion—though I suspect it will ruin me in the best possible way.
Rating: 5 stars: kept me up, kept me thinking, will read the finale the minute it lands

I actually RAN to get this book on Netgalley as soon as it was available. I couldn't wait after book 2, and I enjoyed this one just as much. The further we get into this series, the more intricate the world, politics, stories, characters, and relationships become.
There are many povs and storylines, and even though it is done beautifully, I have to admit that I was sometimes a tiiiiny bit confused since I read book 1-2 couple months ago. It took me a bit of time to get back into it, but once I did though, I DEVOURED the book. The plot twists are 🤌🏽twisting🤌🏽.

First and foremost: immense, inexpressible gratitude for the ARC in NetGalley. It was a tremendous privilege and honor to read the book before its release. 😊
As a token of my appreciation, I'll endeavor to provide a comprehensive review that touches on many—if not all—aspects of the work.
I finished the last novel yesterday... and I still haven't recovered. If my intuition is correct, I'll be under its influence for quite some time. While I typically read quickly and long books don't usually slow me down, I find myself progressing slowly through Jazmin's books. They contain great depth and substance, not to mention their emotional impact. Wow. I have high standards when it comes to writing style and substance (I rarely give five-star ratings), but the author has once again exceeded them. 😉
The series' installments build closely upon one another. The first volume lays the foundation for the rest: at its conclusion, I feared the novel had fallen into that typical pitfall where it aims for a dramatic ending but the sequel struggles to handle the sudden twists. Well, I was wrong. First: as it turned out, the events weren't pulled out of thin air; second: the plot continued masterfully, with realistic reactions following the blood-soaked wedding.
From the second book onward, the story unfolds across multiple threads (and the secondary characters aren't merely decorative, present only to support the main storyline!), a structure that the third book carries forward. Not only its architecture, but also its complexity and subject matter strongly evoke Game of Thrones. All this while—and here lies the true artistry—maintaining an original plot and world-building, rather than simply dressing another book in new clothes.
I don't know if anyone has commented on this aspect yet (I'd be surprised if not), but another virtue of the series is how inclusive it is: characters with disabilities, neurodivergent individuals (or at least those with strong neurodivergent traits), different races, and various sexual orientations all appear in the story. Through this, it addresses and explores related issues. Thank you for that. 💛
Jazmin belongs to that category of writers who dare to step outside conventional formulas: when a hero embarks on a dangerous mission, even if unsuccessful, they typically survive. That's not how reality works, and that's not what we encounter with Jazmin either. I had to take several breaks while reading due to the devastating and unsettling passages.

Kage... After we got to know his personality, motivations, and fragile yet strong character increasingly well, this was a tragic turn. When Freya began speaking, alarm bells went off that this could lead to trouble, but it was difficult to accept that it wouldn't just "could" but "would" lead to problems. Not to mention the massacre among the wolverians. It's as if we're glimpsing into history with all its brutality, only in an alternative reality. Yet this doesn't make the horrors any less painful.
Despite the well-constructed world and logical plot development, some questions remain unanswered for me (beyond those the book itself raises). These include: we still haven't received an answer about how Alina survived the fall in the second book; if Mal could take Allegra to the mortal lands, why couldn't this be done with other characters; before Rio's blindness was revealed to the reader, he moved independently and reacted in ways that required sight. An other one: how could Kage find Wren significantly earlier than the Fae troops if they were moving together?
At the book's end, it was revealed that Mal has a greater history than she was aware of: shouldn't Zagreus, Makaria and the kings of hells have recognized her then? Even if this happened, it didn't come across to me.
I'd be interested in explanations for these (if they exist), but overall they didn't affect the main plot (though they do leave a small thorn in the reader while they remain open 🙃).
The appearance and structure of Dante's inferno was a brilliant move. Despite this, during this section, I felt there was a rapid pace in the movement between levels: they only stayed on each long enough to pass through. They weren't comprehensively presented, and it also seemed strong to me that Mal committed such severe atrocities with relatively few consequences.
(If my intuition is correct, the levels of hell will resurface—including those that were only touched upon now.)
The idea of a periodically recurring love triangle is incredibly apt, and so is the exploration of the difficulties arising from it. The book's final sentence and its message make the picture even more nuanced, which was already quite rich on its own.

My greatest pain is wondering why more people don't know Jazmin and her books, when writings far weaker than her novels enjoy great popularity... Obviously, one reason for this is marketing, and certainly there's also the fact that this series, by its nature, demands considerable thought and reflection from its reader. For someone seeking light, entertaining fantasy, this isn't the most suitable choice, even though it contains plenty of smile-inducing, heartwarming moments and charming character pairings.
I try to promote and recommend it wherever I can, and I hope that one day the wider public will discover this treasure. It provides an immense reading experience. ☺️
This is typically the kind of series worth acquiring in physical book form* as well, because it represents such value that it deserves to be reread multiple times, and contains so many profound thoughts that they need time to settle.
(*Unfortunately, in my case, shipping costs would exceed the book's price, but I still haven't abandoned the idea :") )

As usual, Jazmin has done it again because this is an absolute masterpiece. 😭 I was absolutely enthralled with this story, the world. the characters. She truly does a third person multi POV story so well, to the point where I don’t even know if I could tell you which storyline I was most excited to follow throughout the book! It’s truly incredible.
The world building was fantastic, I want to keep this review spoiler free but everything was truly so easy to imagine and so unique. I literally had to tear myself away from reading and I flew threw this book while simultaneously trying to savor every word.
The tensionnnn between T-redacted and M-redacted 😭😭😭 wow I was not expecting that dynamic but I absolutely ate it up. I of course was amazed and loving every second of Alina’s journey. It was so raw and authentic, I love her character development so much. I literally cried in chapter 8. 😭 This book had so many powerful messages entangled in it, it was so mesmerizing and heartbreaking to read. Speaking of heartbreakkkk- I may NEVER recover from chapter. 54. 🥲 It was such a work of art bouncing from story to story and character set to character set. Everyone has a vital part in the bigger picture, a tragic and special path to walk, it’s truly special when you connect with and love the stories of all the “side” characters as much as the mains- they literally are all main characters for me.
I love the layers of intricacies that start to play out with the politics and the gods, it’s getting so much more complex than I ever expected and I am absolutely loving it. It’s filled with sneaky motives, lies, deception, trust, found family…and betrayal.
We got the reunions we cravedddd, the spark of romances that we never knew we wanted, the heartbreaks that we never thought would happen. It was truly a masterpiece of a third installment. I am SO excited to continue on in book 4 and follow all of my favorite characters on their converging paths. This book truly has it allll- heartbreak, yearning, hopefulness, complexity, emotion, deception, love, and enthralling darkness. 5 stars again without a doubt.

Another. Five. Star. Read. This entire series is brilliant. It doesn’t hold back on the violence or grief or the many many plot twists. I was sucked in. Sucked in, I tell you!
The evolution of the storyline through this book had me gasping and staring at the wall. The characters are so beautifully written. Their stories are heartbreaking and what they go on to do is even more heartbreaking and beautiful.
It’s the kind of book that makes you want to go back to the very beginning and stay there where it’s safe and less upsetting. But I’m going to keep reading. I’m locked in now.
I CANNOT wait for book 4. I am eagerly awaiting it. And the artwork on the covers is stunning. Every single cover, beautiful.

Beta read: October 2025 - Five stars
Wow, wow, wow. Jazmin has done it again! This was easily a five-star read for me. I am completely in love with this series, its characters, and the world that Jazmin continues to build. Even when it breaks my heart, I cannot help but want more.
Every time I think this series has reached its peak, it surprises me again. The world continues to grow in depth and wonder, and each new place we visit adds even more richness to the story. I am completely drawn by the character journeys and the way each one reveals something new about the larger world.
Melinoe’s storyline in particular held me captive from start to finish. Her growth, her challenges, and the tensions she faces kept me fully invested. I also loved the dynamic moments between the characters around her, especially the ones filled with emotional complexity and unspoken layers.
We are three books into the series and with A Kingdom of Light and Air, it dives deeper in a way that feels both natural and rewarding. So much is learned about Melinoe’s history and the decisions that shaped the path she is on now.
Seeing familiar characters reunite was a real highlight for me. Kai and Alina especially stood out. Their development from book one to now feels profound, and watching how they have changed made the experience even more meaningful.
Choosing a favourite moment feels impossible. There were so many scenes that stayed with me. I'm still undecided on whether Thanatos is someone we can truly trust, but I do love his interactions with Melinoe. Equally, I really enjoyed Dawn and Kai’s scenes together. It is so obvious he has developed feelings for her, even if he refuses to acknowledge or understand them.
I also loved seeing Ylva/Wren grow into her abilities. She is starting to dream from a previous life, as Wren, and I cannot wait to see what comes next for her. I especially enjoyed the moment when Arden met Ylva. My heart cannot cope. I will never recover from chapter 54. I genuinely will not survive if anything happens to Arden, or Dawn, or Kai. Arden is so devoted to Wren, and now perhaps to Ylva too. I cannot wait to see how that unfolds.
Overall, I am incredibly curious about the direction the story will take next. The ending leaves so much to think about, and I cannot wait to see how the consequences unfold across the world and among these incredible characters. I will never get over the twists and turns that this series takes!!! Book 3 was no different and I loved every second of it!! I’m obsessed with how the story is progressing with the Gods and I was so shocked at the end of this!! Ahhhh I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one!!

4.5 stars! Book three was a bit slower in tje beginning but the end really picked up! I love how I never know what's going to happen and that no one is safe. I cant wait for the next book! Arc review

This is book 3 of the Kingdom of Gods series, and this series continues to be a steady form of fantasy entertainment. There are twists and turns, diverse characters, and an intriguing world. We follow several characters through each book which is a nice perspective change. Each storyline is unique and they all fit well together. My only complaint is that every time I find a favorite character, something dramatic happens and I don’t like them anymore. 😅
Overall I would recommend if these are already on your TBR. I’m not sure if I will continue this series or not because there will be two more books and it feels like it takes me forever to read them. TBD!

The emotional TURMOIL I FACED IN THIS BOOk?!? The character growth. The political and court intrigue. How one deals with grief and how grief can be all consuming. The TWIST AT THE END. This is gearing up to be one of the best fantasy series of all time. It truly has everything. Alina’s journey is so powerfully written. You really feel for all these beloved characters. Words aren’t enough to express how much I love this series and I cannot believe I have to wait for book 4. Ugh. Thank you J. F. John’s!

After reading 111 books in 2025, I’m proud to say I’m bumping this book and series to my number one spot. Initially, I was torn between this book and another but I have to give Johns credit for serving three consecutively amazing 5-star books.
All of the books in this series are marketed as romantasy but I feel the fantasy/world building element weighs heavier so perhaps 60:40 or even 70:30. Which is the PERFECT ratio for me–I don’t need smut to love a book, I need a GOOD storyteller.
With the multi povs and settings, it’s similar to GoT but a more “romantasified” version. In this book, it focuses more on the fmc and her time in the underworld (10 points for underworld setting bc I love greek mythology). Plus, the supporting characters have equal exciting storylines (another 10 points for not writing a found family for the sake of it). Bottomline, this is a series (PSA it’s still ongoing) worth reading!!

Ok wow. This was epic.
A Kingdom of Light and Air is the book where everything truly starts to come together. Because this series is so layered, it took me a short moment to fully settle back into the world, but once I did, I was completely locked in. From around the 40% mark onward, I could not put this down.
And excuse me, but these later chapters? Absolute slaps. Every chapter seemed to end with me staring at my e-reader in shock before immediately being pulled into the next storyline, where another emotional hit was waiting. It was relentless in the best way.
This is very much the payoff book after all the careful buildup in book two. Storylines weave together beautifully, long-running threads start to unravel, and everything feels intentional and earned.
The writing deserves real praise. Even in book three, the cinematic world building and descriptive prose are just as strong as ever. There is no dip here. The story flows effortlessly and fully immerses you in the journey.
There are many characters and perspectives, but that is part of what makes this world feel so rich and alive. The recap at the beginning was a great touch, and once I found my footing, I loved how fully developed every character felt. Each one has their own emotional arc alongside the larger quest, and none of them feel flat or unnecessary.
I loved this book. I am deeply invested in every single character and cannot wait to continue this series!

I need the next book more than I need air. What do you mean I can’t immediately read what happens next?? What do you mean I won’t get to be with these characters for who knows how long?? I am not well. I don’t think I’m ever moving on from this world.
SO much happened in this book and I need to yap about all of it.
Mal. My queen. My girl. She somehow gets more badass with every book and I love her more each time. Her POVs were my absolute favorites. The whole Nine Rings of Hell storyline? I ate it up. And we got more of her and Thanatos hehehe. They are so perfect together it’s actually insane. I genuinely don’t know how Mal keeps her composure because I would be on my hands and knees for that man immediately, no hesitation.
And the ending??? I KNEW IT. I knew she was an old soul. I knew she and Thanatos were married. My man must be in PAIN watching her love and be married to someone else 🥲 I am fully rooting for them to find their way back to each other. I need it. I crave it.
Now… Ash.
I don’t even know what to think anymore. I went from absolutely adoring him to… not fully liking him. I don’t trust him. And yet I know he loves Mal. But at the same time… you’re not my Ash anymore. I don’t know who you are, sir.
Kai. My mannnn. How can someone be this perfect and not be real? I want him BAD. This man has a way with words that should be illegal. Commander, please stop making me feel things. He’s a gentleman, kind, loyal, responsible, strong as hell. Don’t get me started or I will genuinely start writing poetry about him.
And the way things between him and Dawn are slowly shifting? The way he’s starting to care about her, protect her, feel for her? Does she deserve him? No. Only I do.
But seriously—while he’s giving her the chance of a lifetime to redeem herself, she’s still plotting to kill Ash. Like?? Girl, stand UP. You do not deserve my man.
Alina… I have to be honest, I don’t love what her character is becoming. At first, her revenge arc felt valid. I get it. But when she found out Ash was alive and barely reacted? Didn’t even really ask about him? Yeah… that didn’t sit right with me.
And letting them take Dawn’s blood while she was unconscious to make weapons?? Someone please shake her. I want Hagan dead more than anyone, but not at the cost of your soul. Don’t lose yourself completely. I’m hoping Hessa’s memory (or ghost at this point) pulls her back because she is spiraling.
Now… Kage.

I had to close the book. I actually couldn’t process it. I am in denial. I refuse to believe he’s dead. I don’t care. He did NOT confess his feelings to Bryn. He did NOT get to live the life he deserved. Absolutely not. He’s alive. Don’t talk to me.

I miss her so much. Give her back. And I refuse to call her Ylva — she is still my child.
Her reunion with Arden broke and healed me at the same time. She doesn’t remember him, and he’s trying to act composed while still calling her “little wolf”??? Stop. I can’t handle it. Please let her get her memories back. I’m not strong enough for this.
And her soul in the underworld in wolf form?? The way she ran to Kage when she saw him?? I’m unwell. Actually unwell.
So much happened and yet I still have a million questions. I need to know everything about Mal as Melinoe. I need more about Hades and Hecate. I need to know if Mal is really going to kill every single god—and if she does, what happens after that??
The fact that I now have to sit and WAIT for the next book feels like actual torture.

This series has my whole heart!!! I fell in love with the world and the characters in the 1st book, had a bit of whiplash with the 2nd as nothing went the way I thought and I audibly gasped more times than I can count and now, 3rd book came and I don't know how much more of this torture I can take! I have nothing bad to say, here are some of the things I LOVE the most:
- THE WORLD. It's extremely well thought out, detailed and I have loved learning more and more about each kingdom and people. The blending and twist of Greek mythology is a strong point and it's very immersive. Even though the worldbuilding is lush, I still feel that as a reader I'm left with a lot of agency and the whole reading experience continues to feel very cinematic.
- Which leads me to the second point: THE WRITING. JF Johns is a brilliant and very talented storyteller and I find myself lost in her words and sentences. Her prose is elegant and even though it's rich in descriptions, I actually find that there is a beautiful economy of words. I have a Dramatic Violin type of playlist, which I play non stop when I'm reading these books and, honestly I get sucked in and don't want to come out. I really appreciate the twists and turns the story is taking me and even though I'm left once again with my poor heart in pieces, I decided long ago to trust that this author has a clear vision and i must TRUST.
- CHARACTERISATION. I cannot begin to explain what these characters mean to me, where do I begin and how do I put my thoughts into cohesive words? How are they not real? Do we know this for a fact? Mal remains one of my all time favourite FMCs and her strength, loyalty and resilience make me have so much love for her, I'm ridiculously invested in her journey. ASH, I could just run away with him into the sunset and never look back (even though he's blond, and that says a lot!). His stoicism throughout this book and his unwavering faith in Mal, their story is one of my all time favourites and I am complete denial as to what transpires at the end of this book, I need them to be alright! I could go on for pages about Alina, Kai, Wren (WREN, OH WREN!!!) Kage (KAGE, I LOVE YOU!!!), that 4th book be better heading to the press soon! These characters are all brilliantly fleshed out, all multilayered and very distinct and beautifully flawed. The multiple POVs work so well and by this point we know every single character really well. This also means the pace never falters.
- THE LOVE. This whole series is seeped in it, romantic love, sibling love, the love for your child, it shines through. The grief for the ones lost intertwines tragically throughout and I feel like I'm grieving alongside them.
- THE VILLAINS. Who would've thought I'd be saying this, but here we are. This story doesn't shy away from gore or heartbreak, there is a totally unhealthy dose of both. But it suits the story and (very sadly) works. There are so many villains, so many ulterior motives, every single one of them only scheming for their own benefit, you can trust absolutely no one and honestly, I can't tell you who's the worst.
- TABITHA'S DIARY ENTRIES. I love them, every single one, straight from the beginning. They set the tone beautifully at the beginning of each chapter and they build the lore piece by piece and I love it, the most clever device.
I have to conclude at some point. If you've read the first two books, you will not be disappointed. I shall wait patiently for you to come and find me in this cold and damp corner called 'waiting for Kingdom of Wild and Power.' This truly is one of my all-time favourite series, it's a wild ride!

- THE VILLAINS. Who would've thought I'd be saying this, but here we are. This story doesn't shy away from gore or heartbreak, there is a totally unhealthy dose of both. But it suits the story and (very sadly) works. There are so many villains, so many ulterior motives, every single one of them only scheming for their own benefit, you can trust absolutely no one and honestly, I can't tell you who's the worst.
- TABITHA'S DIARY ENTRIES. I love them, every single one, straight from the beginning. They set the tone beautifully at the beginning of each chapter and they build the lore piece by piece and I love it, the most clever device.
I have to conclude at some point. If you've read the first two books, you will not be disappointed. I shall wait patiently for you to come and find me in this cold and damp corner called 'waiting for Kingdom of Wild and Power.' This truly is one of my all-time favourite series, it's a wild ride!

Once again I’m charmed by JF Johns’s writing, world building and character development. I fell in love with this story earlier this year and I can’t get enough of Mal & co. I’ve also fallen in love with many characters I thought would only be side stories, but no, they all have their importance to the plot and I really couldn’t ask for more. I am very invested in all of them (even the ones I almost hate *cough* Ash *cough*) There are so, so many parts of those kingdoms we get to see, very detailed without drowning us under descriptions, I would love to get transported there and visit many parts of this world.
It had been a while since I almost cried myself to sleep after discovering the fate of one of my beloved characters, and as much as it broke my heart, I can totally understand why this path was necessary. I won’t be holding a grudge. Considering the amount of important characters we get to follow, I know I’m in for a ride when it comes to my heart probably being broken several times in the future. But that’s part of the game, I want to feel the feels man.
I’ll repeat myself from my previous reviews but : get me some magic (bonus for different sorts of magic), some fantastic animals, some good written romance that is NOT the main plot, some mythology (bonus point again if it’s not from a single mythology), some good antagonists with nice redemption arcs (or not), and I’m good to follow you until you’re too tired too write. I’ll get myself a front row seat to your next releases.
I really, really wish we spoke more about this book series on booktok and other instabook, booktube or whatever the other ones are called, because even if we’ve already seen wars, dragons, magic, in many many books trending on social medias and even if it's not the most complex you'll ever read (I see you prose police) : this one feels like a breath of fresh air, it’s not your typical romantasy and it FEELS GOOD. It’s also, in my opinion, a refreshing take on the love triangle matter.
So thank you, again, for writing one of my favourite fantasy saga of the year.
I can wait for the next book, I’m really hungry for mooooore!

J.F. Johns is incredible at world-building, and A Kingdom of Light and Air absolutely delivers. As the third installment in the series, this book was one I devoured, slowly, like a favorite dessert. I find myself lingering with this series, not because it drags, but because I’m completely immersed in the characters and the world, and I don’t want to rush it. I’m so glad I stumbled upon the first book; I’m fully invested now.
I’m a little afraid to go too deep into this one, because I don’t want to spoil anything. So I’m keeping this review focused on what I loved overall, rather than the specific moments that broke me, gave me hope, and then broke me all over again. It’s a wild ride—and one I would happily take again.
Light and Air is packed with bittersweet reunions, hidden truths, and unspeakable twists. The tension is relentless as new relationships begin to form while others fracture under doubt and shifting loyalties. You’re constantly questioning who can be trusted and whether anyone is truly on the same side.
I had a sense of how some elements might unfold, but even when I predicted a twist, it didn’t diminish the impact. If anything, it heightened it. The emotional weight, rising stakes, and repeated heartbreak make this one of my favorite plot-driven reads in the series. Johns pulls you fully into the story and makes every choice feel costly.
What truly sets this series apart is the way the characters and relationships evolve alongside deeply explored themes—love, family, betrayal, vengeance, grief, and loyalty. The story embraces moral grayness without flinching. There are no innocents here, only survivors and villains? And the author never softens the cruelty of the gods or the consequences of their games.
From book two onward, the multi-POV structure shines, and this third installment continues that strength. The secondary characters are meaningful, not decorative, and even the recurring “love triangle”, something I would normally dislike, is handled with care and nuance, adding depth rather than frustration.
Seeing familiar characters reunite was a highlight, especially Kai and Alina. Their growth from book one to now is incredible, and watching how they’ve changed added real emotional weight. I truly loved A Kingdom of Shadow and Ash, but A Kingdom of Light and Air may have taken the top spot.
Epic, emotionally layered, and unapologetically brutal, I don’t want to leave this world.

J.F. Johns has done it again - another 6-star masterpiece. The third book surpasses the previous two, which are also incredible reads.
I don’t know how J.F. Johns weaves such complexity and magic into a world crafted so flawlessly, but I was enraptured from beginning to end. The depth of culture, fantasy, politics, and raw emotion across multiple characters left me in awe. This series has been a cinematic experience so far.
Book three contains darker elements than the first two, with the fallout of war pressing in on all kingdoms. This instalment surprised me left, right, and center. As someone who can often predict plotlines, I loved the constant twists and turns. New relationships evolve, others are tested, and sometimes fate steps in to cut the string.
The character (and world) development is phenomenal. I love the third-person multi-POV and was deeply invested in every chapter - each one ending on a cliffhanger just as the POV shifts.
THANATOS. I knew from book two that I was going to be obsessed with him, and book three absolutely delivered. His teasing and banter will have you kicking your feet, while glimpses of his gentleness and devotion will have you clutching your heart. In fact, I love most of the male characters in this series - except Hagan, we hate him.
The women in this world are far from helpless. Each has her own strengths and rises from the ashes when beaten down. I loved that the female characters are portrayed as fierce and strong while still possessing feminine qualities - especially Mal, Alina, and Dawn.
This book had me feeling everything - sadness, anger, nerves, giddiness, and more. Dawn and Thanatos were my favourite characters in this book, and I was beyond excited to get more of them.
It wouldn’t be a Kingdom of Gods book without a cliffhanger… and this one is brutal. I need book four immediately. Be warned: J.F. Johns is not afraid to hurt the characters she’s created. No one is safe, and you will be taken on an emotional rollercoaster – expect pain and heartbreak.
This fantasy series is my all-time favourite and rivals Throne of Glass. It’s immersive, emotional, cinematic, and rich in every element - more people need to be talking about it.

I probably should not be writing this review right now because the wounds are still far too fresh. Being book three, you would think I knew what I was getting myself into, and yet this series completely consumes me every single time. I can’t help it. At this point, these characters live rent free in my head full time, and every new installment pulls me in deeper than the last.
In fact, I usually jot down notes as I read, thoughts, questions, feelings, but this time I wrote almost nothing. I was too busy reading, too afraid to fracture the delicate force that kept me tethered to this world. It felt hypnotic like a dream I never wanted to wake from, until it shattered my fragile soul.
Dramatic, yes. Accurate, also yes.
This story is immaculately written, layered with interwoven emotions, love, grief, and vengeance. Each chapter unfolds through alternating character perspectives, every one integral to the greater story. What is incredible is that no matter how badly you want to return to a particular storyline, each chapter carries its own urgency and addictive pull. You do not want to skip ahead because every voice matters. Every moment holds weight and purpose as the narrative steadily drives us toward the final chapter and the inevitable cliffhanger.
I honestly cannot get into the meat of the story without going off on a fan girl tangent. So all you really need to know is that no one can be trusted. There are so many people at play, each with their own motives, whether true or hidden. Every journey has characters coming together and being torn apart. There is joy in bonds that are formed, ties we maybe never saw coming and desperately wanted more of. There is emotion in relationships that were doomed from the start, and yearnings that came heartbreakingly close to fruition. We get new characters that we want to cling to, and the inevitable betrayals that leave us broken. But through it all, you see people coming together as a found family, to fight, to work toward peace, and to rise above. We get beautiful connections, snarky banter, unbearable loss, and like each book in this series, a story threaded with a beautiful glimmer of hope.
