Adan went from a living hell on Earth, only to be thrown into a new purgatory. The Zargonnii vessel she’d thought was her savior is blown to bits in an alien war attack. A wormhole sends Adan and her warrior protector to an unknown world. Her only hope of surviving the ungodly planet is in the hands of Blu, whom she loves. Unfortunately, Blu has another agenda.
Blu’s body burns for the little human female, but his entire adult life has one purpose, to father a son and create a family. If he mates with Adan and makes it back home, he’ll need to keep her close to his side, protecting her from his dangerous life. Human females only produce female offspring in Blu’s world. If they survive this planet, Blu has to decide if he’s willing to give up one dream for another.
Born and raised in Ontario, C. L. Scholey developed her passion for writing through her love of reading books as a child. Her first book was contracted in Oct 2009 the very same month her first grand son was born. C. L. Scholey still lives in Ontario, in a rural community with her husband and daughter.
From the author: Hello, I'm Connie! Now that we've met how about I tell you a little about me? I love to write, it's like having a super power.
I was born and raised in Ontario...yes I'm Canadian, no I don't live in an igloo, no I've never pet a polar bear, but I have run into a few black bears, seen wolves, moose, coyotes and I think there's a hundred pound squirrel in my attic.
I spend as much time as I can get away with looking for rocks in Bancroft. When I'm not in Bancroft I live in a small town, so people know me when they see me. Some ask me what I'm working on--some even ask me in a regular voice not a whisper.
I get bored easily, it's why one day I'll be working on assassins, the next Sci-fi, then Vikings, then vampires, then planning world domination--wait, what?
Moving on. I love animals and we have a dog, 120p mastiff. He's great with the kids and careful around them, but he'd run me over for a piece of bologna. Otherwise he loves us.
If you want to get to know me better join me on FB or twitter. Right now I need to change back into a mom, it's my best super power.
Aden, one of six women saved on Earth by Zargonnii warriors, loves Blu but he's made it clear his future is to beget the son he's always wanted. As the Earth women can only produce females, taking her as his mate is not an option. When a worm hole propels the escape pod Aden & Blu are in to a planet of assassins and predatory creatures big and small, Aden refuses to die before knowing what it would be like to be Blu's so she offers him a no commitment opportunity to find out.
Blu wants Aden but he wants a son more, or so he believes until fate shows him how fleeting life can be. With both their lives on the line Blu has to first survive and leave the planet before he can begin to think about any possible future with or without Aden.
With a planet of predatory natives in all shapes and sizes after them, Blu & Aden will have to use every resource at their disposal. That includes the help of the deadliest and most ruthless assassin on the planet Veikko. Why he would agree to help them is suspect, but more importantly, what will he demand as payment.

This is a post apocalyptic futuristic sci-fi installment in the "Unearthly Word" series featuring Blu and Aden who had brief appearances in Bethany's Heart. Blu also was a character in Bay's Mercenary. This actual installment could be read as a standalone if you haven't read either of those books but it might be a little difficult to orientate to the plot series/world building, but it's possible.
This book begins at the point where the shuttle carrying the Earth women to the Zargonnii home planet is attacked and blown up. Each of the women escape in different pods. This book showcases Blu and Aden. From the start these two characters had chemistry but it's a case where Blu wanted a son more than he wanted a mate for you see on his home planet the mothers don't keep their male offspring. They give them to the father to raise independently. So, it's a deal breaker for these two and Aden was to be provided with a substitute male when they reached the Zargonnii planet.
Of course fate threw a curve ball into the mix. Between the carnivorous quicksand, toxic air, cut throat assassins, and horny flying birds, the two have to further fight their inability to keep their hands off each other. This leads to multiple scenes of the adult content variety that leaves the reader with a great big smile. Well, a bigger smile than the scenes that included the native flora and fauna. hehehe.
Added is the emotionalism that comes through in that this alien world had to make some difficult choices to live and survive. Both the males and females. I totally appreciated that the author is providing insight into both sides of the coin while giving respect to both. I can't go into this as it would be spoiler potential and I like to keep to the non-spoiler code of conduct. I can just hope that there can be some sort of solution to the pain that some inhabitants have to go through in the future. If you're reading this Ms. Author I'd really love to see that happen at some point and/or to some degree.
This is a pure SFR read that pulls in the fantasy world of what could be out in the vast universe with the added romance slant bridging Earth to these otherworldly entities. Recommended read with a cautionary suggestion that reading this series from the beginning is advised to appreciate the full flavor.
Cautious Surrender is another fantastic read from author, C.L. Scholey. As well as the sci-fi, romance and erotic scenes, we have a brilliant fast-paced fantasy adventure, with some moments of humour too, making for a super fun read!
Book 4 of the Unearthly World series carries on from Bethany’s Heart (Book 3), but can be read as a stand-alone as it focuses on different love interests in Adan and Blu. But it is still nice to hear the odd mention of the previous characters. After being saved from planet Earth, Adan and her friends found themselves being cared for by the Zargonii. Only, just as she is trying to learn of the new planet she is now living on they are attacked by an enemy, forcing Blu to escape with Adan on a smaller vessel, where they then end up travelling through a wormhole and landing on the planet Brax!
Without Zargonii warrior, Blu, to protect her Adan wouldn’t last a minute on Brax. The inhabitants of Brax are all alien creatures, most of which are exiled assassins and extremely deadly! The Braxians themselves are the assassins overseers, but many assassins do as they wish – and killing is their favourite pastime. Not only does she have to worry about these, but there is also the deadly green gasses of the atmosphere during the night that she needs safety from. With many dangers to overcome, and only a small hope that the Zargonii will come to their rescue, Adan is left in fear of her life, but with Blu at her side she knows he will do all he can to save her.
Adan is in love with Blu, and has been since the moment she met him. It is his strength and over-protectiveness of her that attracts her. Blu is attracted to Adan too, but his conflict lies with him wanting a son. If he mates with Adan he will be mated for life, but a human female cannot bear him a male offspring. He also knows that he can’t expect Adan to wait for him while he Holidays (mates) with a female of his own kind in the hope for a son (which may not happen), only to mate for life with her after. This would be disrespectful and selfish of him.
At the same time, his desire burns for her whenever she is near and this is another conflict he has to fight if he wants a son when he returns to his home planet. For now his honour is in keeping Adan safe, and so whilst they are on this godforsaken planet he can’t let her out of his sight!
“… He would need to keep her as close as possible. There was only one problem with his plan – she drove his body into a sexual nightmare when she was nearby. The attraction she emitted in her pheromones was almost too much for him to resist…”
However, being brought together during some intense moments of danger, and with his honour to care for her and ensure her safety, situations do become much more intimate between the two of them – both emotionally and physically. Will Blu decide to give in to his need and desire for Adan, or will he stay true to his dream of wanting a son?
Another aspect of the story that I loved was the humour. There is the sarcasm that Adan uses on Blu, and the one-liners from Blu every once in a while.
“… I have a hard on so bad I could beat an assassin in the head to death with it.”
These moments create a relief during times of high tension and fear, enlightening the mood and bringing the characters closer. It certainly made me smile at times.
One of my favourite characters was an assassin called Veikko. He is equally deadly and fearsome but there are moments when he shows compassion for Blu, and Adan in particular. This feeling is something the other assassins do not have. And yet, there are times when the reader will question his motives. Is he really helping them? Does he want Adan for himself? Is he tricking them?
“… The assassins she had met so far excluding Veikko were disgusting and brutal. Veikko was creepy enough but possessed compassion…”
I found Cautious Surrender to be a thrilling, exciting read with plenty of tension and fear, as well as romance and fun in between. There is a tremendous amount of adventure packed into the 139 pages, making it fast-paced, thus a quick read, that will leave you on a high and looking forward to the next C.L. Scholey read!
Cautious Surrender (Unearthly World book IV) was provided by Torrid Press (part of Whiskey Creek Press) in return for an honest and fair review.
I love this series and this instalment doesn't disappoint.
Adan and Blu crash land on a crazy "assassin" planet with all kinds of weird aliens trying to kill them. Blu was determined not to "mate" Adan so that he could have a chance at getting a son (which she can't give him). Thankfully he realises that Adan is everything he needs.
During the attack on their ship (in the previous book), Blu and Adan escaped in a pod through a wormhole and crash landed on a planet full of the most deadly assassins, where even the sand can eat you alive. So, good luck to Blu with keeping Adan safe. But the deadly planet is not their only problem. It seems as though Adan has been in love with Blu for a while now and while Blu is attracted to her, his real dream has always been to have a son. Something he's sure a human female cannot give him. Though, the more they stay on that planet, the more the idea of a daughter starts to appeal to him.
Just as every other book in the Unearthly world series, this was a good one. Thought, my favorite is (and I guess will always be) the first one.
This series is really funny and the heroes are odd loking and with amazing personalities. The series is like chips, you just keep going once you start. If you want quick, fast paced, and sometimes cute alien romance jump in!
Highly recommend.I am looking forward to the next one. I enjoyed it very much. Funny, exciting, and sexy. I hope that the author continues to expand on these with other universe characters.
Loved this book from beginning to end. In Bethany's Heart we were able to meet the 5 other woman who stayed in the igloo with Bethany. We've also met Blu in the first Unearthly World book. This is the story of Blu and Adan.
From the first page this book was packed with non-stop action and from the start a love blooming between the two main characters. I loved seeing Blu come to the conclusion that he didn't need a son to make a family, but had one under his nose the entire time. Adan is my kind of girl. She's curious by nature and doesn't put up with anyone's shit, even when she's scared she still lifts her chin up and fights back.
C.L. Scholey has introduced us to many different species and worlds in this series as well as the New World Series. I only hope she considers writing their stories as well.
Okay I must be addicted to the series because I've read the last three books in almost 2 days
4 star rating
There's so much I love about this book however there was things that annoyed me.
pros *The story was very fast pace *good storyline as always *happily ever after romance * Great Characters *loved learning about new and different aliens.
Con's I was very annoyed with Blu because the whole story was based on thinking that Blu didn't want Adan and wanted to have a son. Then a quarter of the way through he suddenly changed his mind and wants her but doesn't even tell her how he feels making her feel sad and think that she can't be with him when they get back to his homeworld. I just thought that point of the story was a little silly.
Overall a very entertaining story with alien love.
Yes I would recommend this book to others. Yes I would read more books by this author.
Now this is how a really good sci-fi book should read!! You are with Adan the entire way feeling her fears and wants...her need to hold it together, her sacrifice out of love. She truly rocks because even when she wants to cry and at times gives in to a wee break down she always quickly pulls it back together and kicks ass. I dig Blu too and what a great fit for Adan. He is typically protective and honorable with his own wants that are sometimes clouded and take him a minute to realize. The world building, as always, is fantastic and you are guaranteed a fantastic trip. I do hope we get to hear about what happened to Veikko. Very interesting characters...Mrs Scholey I love how your mind works!
I loved Blue and Adan story. The previous story was not really my thing but now Blue has redeemed himself to me.
Blue was set to keep on living like any other Zargonii warrior instead of mating a human woman. His family ideal was to have a son and after his previous Holiday he had high hopes. Adan was always close to his heart but he didn't dare to reach her. Adan loved Blue from the moment him and Finn cared for her and her friends on Earth.
A series of events put Blue and Adan together and made Blue realize that having a family with Adan and loving her is much better than denying it.
Again new characters and species are introduced and I hope Connie will continue to develop her series and world.
Cautious Surrender(Unearthly World Book 4) By C.L. SCHOLEY
Better and better with each addition to the series...so don't miss out on this one. I'm blown away by how much each addition brings your level of enjoyment higher. I was so happy to see Blu get his mate, she was absolutely amazing, funny and tough yet vulnerable as they were thrust into dangerous situations constantly from almost beginning to get to their own HEA. I recommend you check out the whole series for I can't wait till the next addition to this series of protective, possessive, passionate variety of alien males. Simply put...worth everything penny I spent.
Cautious Surrender is another wonderful book from C.L Scholey's series, Unearthly World. I started this book and I had the hardest time putting it down. Adan and Blu were perfect for each other....it just took Blu a little bit to figure it out finally tell her. As with the other stories in this series, we are introduced to some other Alien races and rituals, but the main story focused on Blu and Adan, which I loved. C.L can't write these books fast enough for me. LOL Oh well, off to re-read from book 1 again.
I have to say that I enjoyed this book immensely. It was funny and sexy. Book 1 and this one, book 4, are the best. I really want to know if the assassin fell in love with a human and I just adored those bird-things that love Blu as much as I do Heh-heh! The humor was great in this book. Also, I hope that the authors continues with this series b/c I am curious about the human males from previous. I love the natives and am itching to read their happily ever after. READER WANTS MORE! :)
Blue and Adan are such a joy, I thoroughly loved reading their tale. Adan is a spirited, inquisitive, and independent woman whom proved time and again that while all the other creatures around here are deadly as sin, she has her own way to survive and prove her strength. Cautious Surrender is a wonderful fourth book to the series and I adored the sneak peak at Bertha.
I love this author......she has various series about various worlds, which are talked about in all the book.....I like that it winds them all together.....this was great with them going to earth that you got to see what was going on there as well as different worlds they went to. Would recomend all her books....
Didn't like this book as much as the others. While Blu is great with Adan and comes around to the idea of mating her fairly quickly, Adan herself is very annoying, stubborn and arrogant. When she makes mistakes she fails to see what she did that was wrong which is a very irritating, especially in a main character.
This one was better than the previous one. Still some nonsense kidnapping, but the heroine was able to help herself a lot more. I am getting tired of her creating all of these new, and each more improbable than the last, planets. ETA these planets are all so hostile, they are giving me nightmares.
This one was constant action and kept me guessing as we explored a strange new world. The addition Of different aliens and the new dynamics are wonderful. Now I just NEED the next book. Loved it.
I loved it! it was very intense, the world building was amazing, the story line of the series is becoming so intriguing, hinting at a mayor conflagration in the near future. Can't wait!
