On the worst night of her life, an unexpected man is there to dry her tears. But what is he hiding?
It’s Emelia’s twenty-sixth birthday, and she’s invited everyone to celebrate her new promotion at work. But when her boyfriend Jason doesn’t even show up, she discovers he’s cheating on her. Devastated, Emelia’s friends decide to give her a night out on the town—which includes Jason’s dad, Roscoe.
Roscoe might be in his late forties, but he can have a few beers and dance with the best of them. Now, he has to make up for what a jackass Jason has been to his sweet girlfriend. After drying Emelia’s tears, the two find themselves drawn to each other.
When they both agree to it being “just one night,” neither will anticipate just how deep that one night can go. But Roscoe has a secret—he’s a werewolf, and it led to his last divorce. How can he possibly be what Emelia needs?
This is a short and steamy monster romance novella about a very unconventional relationship, with shifted sex and a large age gap. Please read the list of content warnings in the sample.
Lyonne Riley writes super steamy monster romance, fantasy romance, and sci-fi romance. She lives in the middle of nowhere with her spouse and two dogs, writing spicy fairy tales.
‧˚꒰🐾꒱༘⋆ Her boyfriend cheats on her and his dad has a one-night stand with her ‧˚꒰🐾꒱༘⋆
Thank you Kath Richards for always talking about Lyonne's books because I want to read them all. I totally wanted to read a werewolf romance for the season and I picked this one up and HELLO????? This had all the tropes I love:
⏾ Age gap ⏾ Ex's dad ⏾ Accidental pregnancy ⏾ Werewolf romance
You always have a good time when it comes to a Lyonne Riley. I've read another monster romance by her and yup, you seriously could just read them one after the other and just have the B E S T time ever ‧₊˚ ☾. ⋅ In One Night with the Werewolf, you get to meet Emelia who's celebrating her bday with her friends and even invited her boyfriend's dad. But her boyfriend is nowhere in sight and when she calls him, she realizes that he's with another girl. One thing leads to another and Emelia and Roscoe, her ex's dad, spend a night together. The chemistry is INSANE and they know they could be it for each other.
It was such nice surprise for this book to have accidental pregnancy, it kicked things to the max and I was anticipating for Roscoe to find out!!! The blurb doesn't say it has this trope, so if you don't like it, just consider that this book does have it. Personally, it's one of my favorite tropes, so I was shocked when I encountered the trope but in a good way because this couldn't get any better. There's also a little bit of knotting!
Overall, this monster romance novella was fun, entertaining, spicy, but also really really cute. I loved how both of them were scared to be together but when they finally talked, they realized it was so simple, their relationship was really meant to be. Sometimes you need to meet a guy in order to break up with him and date his father, you know?
I have definitely been getting into the spooky spirit and going through a werewolf obsession lately, so One Night with the Werewolf literally could not have come at a better time!!
Here are all the things I loved about this one: 1. As per usual, Lyonne wrote our FMC, Emelia, as just the sweetest little pumpkin pie that ever was. Incredibly understanding, sometimes to the point of letting people walk all over her (*cough cough* fuck you Jason!), Emelia may have been a doormat for Jason, but she was perfect for Roscoe 😍 I loved how once she found out all of his secrets, she fully encouraged him to embrace every part of himself, which was something he hadn’t experienced in a relationship before.
2. And Roscoe. I loved how much he tried to do the “right thing” by letting Emelia go, but then he immediately stepped up when he found out she was pregnant. I loved that they had an open and honest conversation about what to do about the pregnancy and then he was 100% on board with his baby mama 😊
3. Obviously, the intimate times were amazing, both in his human form and his werewolf form!! I loved his dirty talk and the knotting and the primal and yeah!! Basically, all of it was delicious!!
4. Lastly, I loved how the book included LGBTQIA+ characters but didn’t call it out like “HEY! I’m being inclusive!!”. For example, there was a character whose pronouns were they/them, and at no point was there a slip up in the writing or a mention of “this person used to be she/her” for the sake of having a diversity factor. The only mention of anything was talk about sharing a box of feminine hygiene products, but even that was super glazed over. I loved how Lyonne was inclusive in a very natural way. Inclusion is important ♥️
Thank you to Lyonne Riley for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.
Emelia finds out her boyfriend of four years is cheating on her when he answers her "why aren't you at my party?" call with another woman clearly in background, and promptly admits it. Bummer, except for some reason his father is at her party, and, they get irresponsibly intoxicated and act on the attraction that was building all night. And then guess who is feeling fluish two months later and finally connects the dots??
First of all, the dad's name is Roscoe. That is inherently NOT hot. Second of all, he's a werewolf, which is why his first marriage broke up. (This universe has a totally accepted mingling of whatever and humans). So this was supposed to be a ONS for "she's been my son's gf for years" reasons, but when Emelia calls with the news he is all in. Kudos to Riley for the on page discussion of all options and the ramifications, btw. So he makes his big, dramatic confession that he's a werewolf and she's like, OK! And he's like, but the mate bond will make me want to take you during the full moon like ahem! And she's like, "I truly do not see the problem...can we cross that bridge when we get there?" He thinks "Emelia sure took that well." Lol.
I had a great time reading this short and spicy story. I'm not sure if it was exactly the time the author thought I would be having, since I was mostly giggling at these two dummies and making kindle notes like "Ummm, it's been two dates" and "slow down sir" but I guess its a novella so no time to pump the breaks! As they say, "I shrugged. 'All or nothing, I guess.'" Well, that's not necessarily how it has to go in an oops, baby situation, but sure, you do you.
There's a little lalala don't look too hard at how parents and sons take the news, and the pregnancy timeline, but this story exists primarily for were and wolfish bedtime scenes, and we get plenty of those. I'm no lycanthropologist, but this guy in wolf form sure didn't act like any other shifter book I've read (can talk, has hands w claws). No time to think! Four stars because I was well amused the entire time.
I absolutely flewwww through this book!! This has someone of my absolute favorite tropes, and I was eating it up. The chemistry was fantastic, the romance was very sweet, and I loved the friend group too!
This is exactly what I needed to round off my October reads. If you’re looking for something quick, spicy, and perfect for spooky month, grab this one!!
Tropes: Werewolf Romance Ex Boyfriend’s Dad Age Gap One Night Stand Spicy Novella
Thank you so much to Lyonne Riley for sending me a copy for an honest review. 💖
This is paws-itively a great book for a quick steamy read! Roscoe is very swoony and while I'm not always a fan of the "boyfriend's dad" trope but this was super hot. Thankfully Emelia was in her late 20s so that helped, too. And can't go wrong with a sexy older shifter going full wolf mode and chasing his love through the woods. I wasn't a fan of them both being drunk and aware that they probably shouldn't do the deed while intoxicated but still going ahead with it. They both handled it like adults after and took responsibility for their choices.
This was a fun read full of spicy wolf shenanigans, supportive friends, and finding love in unconventional places.
4.25 🌟 Did I just binge read this in one sitting? Yes. Was this my first “ex-boyfriend’s dad” book? Also yes. Did I surprising enjoy that particular trope? Again…yes. This steamy novella starts with a celebratory promotion/birthday get together for my girl Emelia. The only person she seems to be missing is her shitty boyfriend Jason (also sidebar…I don’t know why but every time I read Jason, my brain said nah it’s Justin…) Anyway, Jason never shows causes he’s out here whoring it up. But who is there to pick up the pieces of her heart? Jason’s hot, salt and pepper, burly, aged like wine dad, Roscoe. Needless to say, their night together was clearly full of passion….which leads to both of them having to make some pretty significant decisions about their future (is that a spoiler!? Idk anyway) I think I would have loved to see more of their story, but at the same time, I’m totally content with this HEA for Emelia and Roscoe.
Edit to Add: I did receive this ARC from Lyonne Riley in exchange for my honest opinion. So thank you for allowing me to read it early! Again like I’ve said before, Lyonne’s writing style is super palatable for those who either love monster/paranormal romance or is just getting into these genres.
A fun, short, and steamy paranormal romance with accidental breeding between Emelia, who discovers her boyfriend has been cheating while celebrating her 26th birthday with her friends, and Roscoe, her boyfriend’s silver fox dad who she later finds out is a turned-against-his-will werewolf. Messy and complicated much?!
I received an advance reader copy from the author and bookfunnel, and I’m sharing my honest review.
This is a steamy shifter romance novella and the first book in the Indecent Monsters series.
Human FMC Emelia is out for a night on the town to celebrate her birthday when she unexpectedly breaks up with her boyfriend. Her new ex’s dad, MMC werewolf Roscoe, is there to dry her tears and offer… comfort. A one-night stand turns into a lot more than either of them expected.
I don’t normally seek out taboo romance, it’s not usually to my taste, but I enjoyed this book. While I did question some of the MC’s choices at first, I was quickly on board. There’s plenty of spice and a few unconventional situations, so be sure to check trigger warnings if you have sensitivities.
Overall, I enjoyed this novella and hope Riley continues with more Indecent Monsters stories.
Spice 5/5 Plot: 4/5 Writing: 4.5/5 My Enjoyment: 4.5/5
*** I received an ARC and am voluntarily, leaving my honest review.
Mmmm this was a really tasty bite (hehehe) of werewolf steaminess! I love some age gap and was in the perfect mood for a steamy novella! (Oh my goodness there is shifted fun times 🫠🫠🫠🫠I definitely melted into a pile of goo on the floor)
If you are in the mood for something short & steamy with a huge helping of a salt-n-pepper age gap (with a knot) then you are in luck and I would point you toward this little gem! The characters are so likeable and you just can’t help but root for them both to get their HEAs!
Overall 4.25/5 Stars
What’s inside? 🐺Novella 🐺One N!ght Stand 🐺Surprise Werewolf 🐺Ex-boyfriend’s Dad 🐺Age Gap 🐺Salt & Pepper! 🐺Shifted Fun 🐺A dash of insta-love
I was gifted a copy of this book by the author. My opinions are my own. Thank you!
Ever catch yourself checking out a handsome young man then realize it’s actually his dad who’s got your full attention? Yeah? Cool, then this book is definitely for you.
One Night with the Werewolf is a finger-lickin’, pearl-clutchin’ good time. It’s fast-paced, easy to devour, and will have you laughing one minute at Roscoe’s hilarious boomer banter, then fanning yourself the next when he starts whispering all those sinful, praise-filled words to Emilia. And can we please talk about the primal play? Because wow! It had me squirming and on the edge of my seat!
If you’re looking to add a little spice to your spooky season TBR, One Night with the Werewolf is the perfect quick read.
Huge thanks to Lyonne for letting me read One Night with the Werewolf before pub day!
This was like reading a creative writing assignment written by someone who had never had seen or used any kind of genitalia, human or otherwise, or experienced human attraction, and so simply guessed at what sex could be. And guessed poorly. Describing a man is suckling at a breast like an infant during sex, and then later get excited thinking about the baby she’s carrying suckling on her “perfect pink nipples.” Straight to fucking jail.
Even beyond that, this author isn’t for me and this will be the second and last try for me. The MMC is a complete asshole cosplaying as a standup guy, and the FMC is an over cooked noodle cosplaying as a doormat. The writing and therefore the sex is cringy cliche. I could be wrong though, because the FMC claims she will never forget it, “even if [she] were dead.” So. Then they go to the woods and he turns into a wolf and I, the already-horrified reader wondering why I can’t just DNF like the rest world, have to experience the worst description of literal wolf (not hot humanoid wolf) penis penetrative sex I have never wanted to imagine.
The epilogue is, amazingly, even worse than the rest.

This is the 3rd book I’ve read from this author and I just don’t think I liked their writing. They use some off putting descriptors and I always come away feeling like the characters are not fully formed.
At one point when he’s sucking her nipples for the first time he mentally describes himself as sucking like a hungry/starving infant. And this descriptor from the MMC pov : “how her pussy has a perfect texture inside it” Also kept referring to the FMC as a 26 year old girl…umm yeah she’s a full grown woman.
So yeah this was lacking any real emotional impact or character development. I probably won’t read more from this author.
Did this relationship start on a whim? Yes. Is this relationship perhaps a tad unexpected and unconventional? Yes. Should different decisions have been made? Nope! Are Roscoe and Emelia the sweetest, most functional, and "made for each other" couple ever? YES!
I love this, almost bittersweet, story. It starts out a bit rough for Emelia with a breakup on her birthday, but everything works out in her favor. And Roscoe's, if we're being honest. They were meant to be and I'm so happy for them!
One Night with the Werewold is a very quick, steamy, sweet story including *SPOILERS VIA TROPES BELOW*: - age gap - ex's dad - knotting - consensual chase - and more!
The tropes in this book are not ones I normally go for, but I like this author’s writing and characters normally plus I’m still riding a Halloween high and decided to go for a werewolf romance. Lyonne Riley, as usual did not disappoint. This is a sweet spicy short monster romance perfectly done. The main characters are besotted with each other. The side characters are interesting enough that I would read a book about them. The werewolf is wolfy. What more could you want? :D
**Thank you to the Author for the ARC; all opinions are my own.**
4.25 ⭐️ 3.5 🌶
This was a very hot novella!!! 👀 It was super fun! I liked how accepting Emilia was of Roscoe when he told her that he was a werewolf. This was the perfect smutty fluff I was needing!
☆one night stand ☆ex-boyfriend's DAD ☆werewolf ☆ knotting ☆primal chase ☆accidental pregnancy
This is such a hot novella, the spice isn’t super intense but it’s just hot. Roscoe is a big hot werewolf Daddy and Emilia is a sweet little freak and together they are perfect together!
I never thought I was going to enjoy a book with the surprise baby trope but this one was absolutely fantastic!

God damn. Lyonne Riley does it again. And this sounded like something I wouldn’t like (significant age gap, taboo, ex bfs dad, only mine for a night, rebound, surprise pregnancy) but hot damn it was perfectly sweet and very sexy. I loved it. At this point I’d read a chemistry textbook if Riley wrote it and thank her for it. Hats off.

This is a brief but charming monster romance that delivers a genuinely sweet HEA. One night of shared comfort transforms into something enduring, and the mutual acceptance between the characters was my favorite part.
- Age gap - Primal chase - One night stand - Pregnancy - Ex-boyfriend’s dad
This author never disappoints me. She’s an auto buy. I did giggle at the tiny size of this book series. If you have them you know. This is an age gap (my guilty pleasure), ex’s dad story. Werewolf not shifter romance. Short read only 153pgs.
I devoured this story and loved it! Emelia absolutely made the right choice in kicking her cheating boyfriend to the curb and hooking up with his dad. Roscoe is just the best and it's obvious how much he cares for Emelia.
"I think watching this man come undone might be my life's greatest accomplishment. I can't wait." - Emelia
Emelia and her friends are celebrating her twenty-sixth birthday! But when she notices the time and how late her boyfriend is she attempts to call him. Finding out he's been cheating on her and wasn't planning on joining in on her birthday party! All of this said out loud through speaker phone and in front of her boyfriend's father, Roscoe. Who was invited to her party, maybe that was a mistake.
Until he helps to dry her tears and keep her from going home and missing out on a great night. But as the drinks and hours leak into the early AM, they find that there's something between them. Maybe just for one night they can let it all go. Even if they want more but Roscoe knows he isn't the best choice for Emelia long term. Especially since he's a werewolf and that cost him his previous relationship.
"It's not a common trait in people nowadays, to be so authentic and kind without trying. Emelia has one face, her real face, and she always wears it." - Roscoe
I enjoyed this fun little novella and the chemistry between the two main characters. Why is it that bad things seem to line up with birthdays?! And yet life throws a positive curve ball right after an awful one.
Roscoe was a fun character, and I loved that he's an older man. Forty-seven years old to be exact and Emelia is twenty-six so we have an age gap that may seem taboo to some. I mean there's also the thing about him being the father to Emelia's ex. . . I loved how he didn't bow out of partying with Emelia and her squad even if he may have to ice his back a little. Mention of old age and understandings that he's a mature man, but not dead.
Sometimes it takes us losing something to understand just how bad off we were. Wanting to hang onto something because we don't realize we are settling and just afraid to be alone. Emelia had already been crushing a little on Roscoe even while she was with Jason. But the night she became single she decided to take the plunge. Realizing some things about herself and her previous situation she wouldn't have seen without having ended it.
Do read through the TW's! There's a trope that is a fifty-fifty for readers and some concerns around the trope that may be triggering. I didn't mind it in this read and it flowed with the story. I loved how the age gap was a concern and not everyone took things positively making it more realistic. Truces were made but not every relationship was mended fully. We do have language with this read, terrible ex behavior, and some moments of heavy emotions.
"She breathes a new life into me that I didn't know I was missing." - Roscoe
We have dual POVs to see the mutual attraction that's been building for a while! But some complications and reasoning as to why neither broached the topic of dating. Some fun werewolf drama and being physically different from humans. Moments of vulnerability between the two as they try to not fight the last battle or assume the other will act exactly like their ex. Some pinning and trying to keep themselves busy so they don't think about the other! Spicy MF action.
The couple gets a very happy HEA, and I cannot wait for more couples within this series! This was a lighthearted and sweet read with some interesting tropes. Loved the fact that the couple is older!
Do enjoy the read with a werewolf zaddy and a woman he knows deserves more than his lousy son. Don't forget to give the author some stars!
Gleeful Goblin Review: Age gap stuff isn't my typical fare but I always loved what Lyonne puts out so when I had the chance to read this book I snagged it. I'm glad I did while also having been just **aggressively** called out on PAGE 1 by this book. "I’m a holder-outer. I will loyally wade with you into the storm if I think we have a good reason. After four years of dating Jason, it would take a lot for me to want to leave him. I see him as my future husband, my partner. He might not be the best boyfriend in the world, with how he forgets important things in my life, and he doesn’t communicate well." Why could have written this exact thing except 9 years instead of her 4? UGH. So, anyways....I knew from the jump that this book was gonna have a grip on me.
Since I've stayed away from age gap romances I wasn't sure how Lyonne would make this her trademark steamy but wholesome but I shouldn't have worried. I love how we get to see how Roscoe has felt about Em the 4 years she's been dating his son and that he hasn't (at least not intentionally) waiting in the wings or had overt designs on this much younger woman.
Em takes a little bit into the book to get to know better but she's genuinely a sweet, kind, and forthright person which bot Roscoe and I seemed to appreciate.
I will say that the fireworks start pretty quickly for these two which was a little jarring for me but 1) This is a novella so if you want things to happen they're gonna have to happen pretty quick! 2) Considering how and why Em and Roscoe get together I don't think it would have been possible to believably have them get together later in the story. Em just broke up with Roscoe's son and both of them think that this birthday party will be the last they see of each other. It's definitely not but that thought has some unfortunate fallout for Em that was pretty harsh.
Blessedly the angst is minimal and short lived. Especially for a novella the book is great at giving some emotional growth between these two and it 100% delivers on the spicy scale. I had a great time reading a type of book that if it wasn't this author I wouldn't have picked up at all. 5/5 Stars
I haven't teared up like that reading a novella in ages ;) Emelia was a 26 years old woman, who learned during her birthday celebration that her boyfriend of 4 years, Jason, was cheating on her. She invited his father, Roscoe, to the get together and he was pissed as all hell when he heard what his son did. Emelia dumped the cheater, but wasn't having the best time and Roscoe decided to be there for her on her birthday. His kindness and caring made her forget about the weirdness of their circumstances and they spent that night together at his place. Roscoe was a 47 years old werewolf, who's marriage to Jason's mum ended when he got bitten. He knew that spending more time with Emelia would make his wolf even crazier about her than it was after their night together, so he cut it quickly and harshly. When she called him two months later he was standoffish, until she told him about the pregnancy, then he drove to her, took full responsibility and was there for her. I liked how they discussed their options, I don't have kids (and don't really want them), so it was refreshing to see abortion even being considered. In most romances it's obvious whenever the woman gets pregnant she would keep the child even in the most awful circumstances and it pisses me off ;) It was tad unrealistic that there wasn't any real problems after they decided to keep the kid and get together, but it was so freaking sweet. I loved how Roscoe seemed happier and fully at peace with himself when he found someone who accepted him completely. He in turn took in stride everything Emelia did or wanted, even when she filled his small house with plants as soon as she moved in ;) It was one of the cutest novellas I've read this year, and it had great smut! I can't wait for more in this series.
