Haley is back in town after a bad breakup with her ex with her familiar Ned. She had been training to be a magical inspector and Greg, her ex, slept with the instructor to win the position over her. She is currently in charge of her Aunt Magna's bakery while she takes an extended vacation. Unfortunately, someone has but a hex on the bakery and it is making people sick. Haley is trying to figure out what is going on and has found she is suddenly a witch that might be physic and it really scares her. The police chief, who is also a magical inspector, is murdered with pie from the Bakery and now the place has been closed by the police. To keep Aunt Magna from coming home early, Haley and Ned must solve the case and find the culprit that killed the police chief. I received an arc and this is my review.
Haley has to run her Aunt Magda's bakery while she is on vacation. Things get out of hand when Brenda, the Magical Inspector, confronts Haley about food poisoning from her bakery. Haley is furious and cannot believe that the bakery is responsible. Then her aura changes and she sees prophetic visions especially about a dying woman who later turns out to be Brenda who was found dead. Haley is determined to restore the bakery's reputation and also find out who killed Brenda and why. An entertaining read with zany characters especially Ned and the Macabres whose wizardry is questionable. I like the picturesque description of the town and the twists in the plot.
Potions and Pumpkin Pie is an Excellent story and start of a series about Haley Hawthorne a Witch who tried to become a Magical Inspector and her dog Ned her Familiar. She is looking after her Aunt Magda's Cafe while she is on holiday. But unfortunately some of the customers start feeling ill and Sheriff / Magical Inspector Brenda Wilkerson comes to investigate. But what will be discovered on Haley's search for the truth? I enjoyed reading this story and look forward to reading the next book. What a fun new series! Paranormal beings, a talking familiar, a bakery and a mystery (or two); what more do you need for an enjoyable evening's read? I look forward to future books in the series to see how the characters develop.
A well crafted story that pulled me right in. A crime with lots of clues to ponder, great new people with magic to learn and interesting possible romantic interests. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can’t wait for book 2!
This is going to be a FABULOUS series! I loved the mystery. I loved the characters. I can’t wait to see what happens with Greg…I hope she cuts him down to size. That would be so satisfying. This was such a fun book to read and I am now eagerly awaiting the next one!
What a great new series! I love the starting over ones! This one has a little of everything: friends, family, mystery and a little romance. Can’t wait for the next one!
