Lowell hasn't been the best partner in the past. Two tumultuous relationships and a year of self-reflection have taught him a lot about himself and he doesn't like what he sees. He knows he isn't perfect, but he's trying to become a better person. However, he's afraid to fall back into old patterns and lacks the confidence he used to have. When he meets Adam, he's immediately taken by the man's kind heart and positive attitude. Will the love of a good man be able to restore Lowell's faith in himself, or is he truly destined never to be anyone's favorite again?
A. Russo is an applications developer by day, romance writer by night (and on breaks, and in the evenings, and sometimes during work when the important people aren't watching). Genderfluid and proud of it, the author can frequently be found in girl-mode, boy-mode, or somewhere-inbetween-mode, essentially becoming the equivalent of a gender-transformer - without the cool accompanying mechanical noise. We are still working on that technology. When not writing, our hero-slash-heroine enjoys horseback riding, cooking, and daydreaming about what to write next.
Re-read May 2021 This book still gives me all the warm fuzzies.

Now this was a very pleasant surprise.
The writing immediately clicked with me. And I just loved how this author decided to use an awful character from My Partner the Wolf by Hollis Shiloh (which I haven’t read, but you can easily put together the story from this one), and have him totally redeem himself. I loved Lowell!
Lowell is convinced he is an awful person. He used to be selfish, superficial, shallow, demanding and… a cheater. He didn’t cheat on his husband once, no, he cheated twice.
This story starts with him loathing the person he is. Lowell thinks there is no way anyone would ever like him, let alone love him. So Lowell is trying to be a better person, but he doesn’t feel like he is really succeeding. So far he has no friends and he is just so lonely.
So he goes out clubbing with some ‘friends’, and it is there that he meets Adam. Adam is sweet, gentle, kind, and obviously smitten with Lowell from the start. But when the two of them eventually go on a date, Lowell just knows he doesn’t deserve someone like Adam. But Adam disagrees…
I loved Lowell. He was so sad about all the things he did. But even though he did do some horrible things, I could understand where he was coming from. And the way he tried to be a better person was just wonderful to see.
This novella is heavy on the feels, high on sweetness, but low on steam. We got one non-detailed sexy scene. But strangely enough that never bothered me. It totally fit the story.
I will definitely be re-reading this in the future.
And there was a real nice setup for the next book, so I’m going to jump right into that one.
I thought this was a really sweet story. Lowell wasn't the best in his other relationships, and then he met Adam the man who grounded him and made him a better person.
This is romance of self redemption. Lowell has become a person he doesn't like very much and he is trying to do better.
This books is another author taking the "villain" in a fellow writer's series and writing the story of that character.
In My Partner the Wolf by Hollis Shiloh, Lowell is a feckless, jealous, self centered cheater. I actually did not like the lack of complexity in the way he was drawn so that is why when I heard about this book, recommended by Shiloh, I snatched it up.
This is a thoughtful romance. Adam seems Lowell in all his flaws and also his strengths. Lowell works hard address the issue that have made him act out.
I really liked it. And you have no need to read the book it spins off from to enjoy.
A really sweet read. A story of someone finding themselves and becoming a better person. Low just needed someone who understood him and Adam was that person, he accepted him as he was without needing to change. It was a slow build up but that made it more believable.
Sweet, short but very beautiful story about redemption and honest love. I love how vulnerable Lowell is and the fact that he reflected on his past mistakes was brave and something I think we need to do more of in real life.
The vibe I got from this story was gentleness. Which is ironic since the opening scene was in a dance club but i don’t know, I just feel like it has a gentleness to the tone of the story. And I like it a lot. Can’t figure out how this book was not on my radar before now! What a shame!
Really sweet short story with two cute and relatable MC's but sadly also with a couple of spelling/grammar mistakes. Otherwise really, really liked it and I'm looking forward to read more by this author. If you're looking for something sweet for in-between this will be perfect for you. Recommended!
