Fresh start, fake name, and a corpse that threatens to ruin it all…

Lizzy James doesn’t want to ruffle any feathers. Still dealing with trauma from her past, the cautious appraiser is horrified when an ordinary day on the job turns up a trio of dead bodies. And when Witness Protection sweeps her off to a sleepy Mississippi hamlet, the determined twenty-something plans to pursue peaceful anonymity… until her gossipy neighbor joins the not-so-dearly departed.

Fending off accusations of murder from an unscrupulous sheriff, the desperate woman arms herself with wits, faith, and the support of a sharp-eyed ten-year-old. But as the skeletons spilling out of the closets in her new hometown threaten to blow her cover wide open, she must push through her fears to find Christ in the chaos.

Will she receive her prayed-for fresh start, or will finding the truth cost her everything?

Whispers of Kith and Kin is the page-turning first book in The Whispers Christian cozy mystery series. If you enjoy Southern secrets, dashes of clean humor, and carnage served with cinnamon-sugar warmth, you’ll love Kaye Brownstone’s homey homicide.

The perfect cozy read… with a bit of an edge. 🍂 I loved the author’s writing style from the very beginning. The story had me guessing til the very end, and the twist toward the end, well, let’s just say there was no putting it down at that point. 😅

Yet despite being a murder mystery, there are plenty of comedic moments that made me literally laugh out loud. Multiple storylines also tease at future books and add complexity and intrigue that make me very eager for the next one!

I loved this cozy mystery! I laughed a lot and gasped a time or two at the surprises. The characters are genuine, flawed, warm and relatable. You can tell that Kaye Brownstone poured all of herself into this book. I can't wait for more from her!

The author doesn’t waste any time pulling you in with her engaging writing style. Several twists and turns and some sweet, light hearted moments in between. As it progresses, you do see varying layers to the story that hint at future books as well. Can’t wait to read more!

Loved this cozy mystery! From the moment I picked it up I found myself sneaking away from my toddlers to read another chapter because I couldn’t get enough. The character development was the perfect mix of answering my inner questions and leaving suspense. I can’t wait for the next book to learn more!

A Cozy Mystery with Heart, Humor, and Real Healing
I picked this up during a season when I was trying to rebuild my life after a traumatic event, and Lizzy’s journey resonated so deeply with me. Her fear of messing up her second chance, her hyper-awareness, her desire to disappear into quiet anonymity, it all felt so real. And then the mystery kicks in, and the story somehow manages to be both suspenseful and comforting. Kaye Brownstone blends humor, danger, and faith in a way that reminded me that even chaos can become holy ground. A fantastic start to a series I’ll be following closely.
