The perfect cozy read… with a bit of an edge. 🍂 I loved the author’s writing style from the very beginning. The story had me guessing til the very end, and the twist toward the end, well, let’s just say there was no putting it down at that point. 😅

Yet despite being a murder mystery, there are plenty of comedic moments that made me literally laugh out loud. Multiple storylines also tease at future books and add complexity and intrigue that make me very eager for the next one!

The character development was the perfect mix of answering my inner questions and leaving suspense. I can’t wait for the next book to learn more!

A clean, compelling Christian cozy

Pros:
1. It has a strong Christian component, with at least one prayer, scripture, and sermon. This could also be a con: if you were unhappy with _Theo of Golden_ for this reason, you won’t be happy with this book. It lacks sex, distasteful language, and political asides.
2. It has an interesting format, with a statement from each of the suspects about why each might have killed Penelope Fitzgerald.
3. It has a compelling plot, so I read through it in two days.
4. The reader wants to know more about the main character.

Cons:
1. See #1 above.
2. As I first began reading, the writing felt awkward. Then I realized what was a problem for me: it is written using the present tense. That is not the standard for fiction and I am confused about why an editor would allow it. I found myself rereading parts and changing the verbs to past tense.

That said, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I look forward to the sequel and perhaps a relationship between Lily and Marshall Kelly and a reunion with a missing brother.

The author doesn’t waste any time pulling you in with her engaging writing style. Several twists and turns and some sweet, light hearted moments in between. As it progresses, you do see varying layers to the story that hint at future books as well. Can’t wait to read more!
