Lady Camilla and Lord Pembroke have been lifelong friends, and Camilla starts to realize she loves him. Pembroke is oblivious and flirts with other women. This hurts Camilla, so she begins to withdraw a bit. He is confused by her aloofness and wants to restore their friendly banter and close friendship. I love Camilla’s strategic determination and Pembroke’s attempts to win her back as he realizes that she might be more than a friend to him.

Fans of witty banter, a smart likable character, and sweet romantic tension with a great deal of yearning will want to add this heartfelt story to their TBRs.

Wit, Wiles and Courtship, is simply a wonderful slow-burn story! It is weaved with witty humor and banter, tender and heartwarming moments, and with a great amount of yearning! What I loved best about this dear story is watching a dear charming character settle for nothing less than love and wanting to be seen for being one’s one self. The journey built bit by bit and I couldn’t help but applaud the bravery, conviction, and the relentless pursuit! Love is definitely weaved within and has the power to make such a lasting and impactful difference along the way and to possibilities, ahead. I adored the tender vulnerability shared and felt within, which absolutely makes this story worth the read! While you could easily read this book as a stand alone, in my opinion, it’s definitely more fun reading this charming, heartfelt, dear series in order for best enjoyment!📚‼️

Camilla has been in love with Pembroke for years and has had a great friendship with him. However, when she overhears that he is going propose to another woman, she is devastated and decides not to give him another thought and no longer seeks his attention. Pembroke doesn’t know why his amusing friend is no longer wanting anything to do with him and suddenly that is very bothersome. He is determined to get his friend back but realizes she may be more than that. I really liked this story! It was so cute. I loved watching Pembroke realize his feelings and pursue Camilla. I liked that Camilla didn’t wilt but stood strong. And I liked watching them come together in the end. Overall a great read and I definitely recommend!

Aww, this was such a sweet read, but at the same time it was filled with a powerful mix of emotions—especially YEARNING! ❤️🤌🏻
I was eagerly looking forward to Camilla’s story—unrequited love.
I really enjoyed this book! In fact, I read it in less than 24 hours.
I felt every emotion the characters went through, and the pacing was perfect for my taste.
I loved how the relationship between Camilla and Lord Pembroke developed and how he began to realize his feelings when she pulled away—it was hard for him 🤦🏻‍♀️ but he finally managed to see how wonderful she is.
This is my favorite book in the series so far! 👏🏻

I'm enjoying this series quite a bit, but would love a little more intrigue/drama/action. The pace for this book, in particular, was slow, but not dull; just nice and steady. Still, each book has been well-written and interesting. I think once the series is complete, it will be fun to read each book back-to-back. I'm especially looking forward to Evo's story.

I loved Camilla's wit and humor, and appreciated the thread of the story about her "plump" figure. Rowe was charming and I loved his tender heart and caring spirit. He was, however, quite a dunce at times, but that was part of his charm.

As has been the case each time I finish a book in this series, I look forward to the next.

Rowe was perfect for Camilla—it just took him a long time to realize it. I especially loved the dual POV because seeing his growing feelings for Camilla made his journey toward realizing he was in love with her even more enjoyable. And when this eternal bachelor finally fell, he fell hard.

With its slow-building romance, witty exchanges, longing, and plenty of stolen moments, Wit, Wiles and Courtship is a delightful Regency romance. If you love a good slow-burn romance, this is definitely one to add to your TBR!

I think I say this every time, but it's no less true each time: I open up a Jennie Goutet book and feel like I'm home. Her books bring me such peace. They pull me into each story and wrap me in their words. I live each moment with the characters, and even start talking like I'm in the Regency era. I even texted my daughter last night and told her that her banana bread looked "lovely". I felt quite sophisticated.

Wit, Wiles, and Courtship is no exception. I loved Camilla and Rowe. Loved her resolve. She knew who she was and what she was worth. Good for her!

I won't say what I loved about Rowe, especially at the end; that would give scenes away, and I don't want to do that. I'll just say that these two suited each other very well. ~wink, wink~

I finished this book like I do with every Jennie Goutet book: with a smile both on my face and in my heart.

This is good, I suppose, but a bit too slow and uneventful for my taste. It took me a while to get into it (70%?), but even then I found the miscommunication frustrating. I couldn’t say the story is terribly romantic, or that I loved the characters… But the writing is smooth and the story well developed, so I suspect those in the mood for a slower pace will enjoy it.

There is no foul language, sex, or violence. The romance is limited to lightly descriptive kisses. There is no message of faith or God.

This is the 3rd book in the Earl's Sisters series. It is a kisses only Regency romance. I think you could read this as a standalone be8id read the others and have forgotten most of those stories. You will probably enjoy this more if you binge read them though. I believe that both of our characters in this book play important roles in previous stories.

I hadn't read the blurb, and I sort of felt the first quarter of the book was boring. After finishing, all of that information happens in the blurb. The next 3/4 of the book picks up.

This is mostly a romance story. There isn't much else going on. A few family events, but no additional plot lines.

I really want the Earl's story!

Stevie Zimmerman reads this. I think you either like her or don't. If you've listened to any of Jennie Goutet's other books, you'll know where you stand on her narration.

I don’t blame Camilla for wanting to keep Rowe at arm’s length. She believed (with good reason) that her feelings were unrequited and always would be.

And Rowe wasn’t ready to settle down yet, anyway. However, he eventually realizes there is one young lady whose company and conversation exhilarates rather than bores him.

While Camilla was determined to avoid embarrassment and heartbreak again, Rowe was equally determined to recover their previous camaraderie. But in doing so, finds himself developing romantic feelings for her.

Although, I do think he had some kind of affection for Camilla, he just didn’t know it at the time. She captured his attention in a way none of the other eligible young ladies ever could.

Meanwhile, Rowe is the standard Camilla would compare her other suitors to. And none of them ever measure up.

I also enjoyed Rowe becoming a mentor for Evo. The young earl certainly needs it 😅

This slow-burn romance is filled with family, ballrooms, witty banter, and a good dose of yearning. These amazing characters take you on a roller coaster of feelings with their friends to not to love. I was hooked from the first page to the last!

Camilla is witty, determined, and kind. Her self-criticism was heartbreaking but I loved that she wasn’t going to settle for less than love. I loved that she spoke her mind and teased Pembroke. Her struggle with her feelings for him and whether or not her heart could trust him was intense. Rowe Pembroke is charming, attentive, and steadfast. I loved his desire to make Camilla smile and draw her out. I loved that he accepted her just as she was and never intentionally made her feel less than. I loved Rowe and Camilla’s friendship and easy camaraderie. Their banter and teasing even when their relationship was strained was amazing. Oh! When he realized she meant something to him outside of her family relation he was relentless in his pursuit! I loved his determination to prove his love and devotion.

Wit, Wiles, and Courtship was exactly the kind of Regency romance I love. Jennie Goutet gave me two main characters I genuinely liked and a romance that felt especially satisfying because Camilla and Pembroke already had such a strong foundation of friendship.

I always enjoy a friends-to-lovers story when I can believe the characters truly know and care about one another before the romance begins to change, and that was one of my favorite things about this book. Camilla has quietly loved Pembroke while he has remained unaware of just how important she has become to him, and watching their long-standing friendship begin to shift into something more made their relationship all the sweeter.

I also appreciated that I could root for both of them. Neither character made me wonder why the other one was interested. They were simply two very likable people whose friendship had gradually become something deeper, even if it took a little longer for one of them to recognize it.

The London Season, courtship, wit, longing, and that wonderful realization that the person you have been looking for may have been beside you all along made this such an enjoyable read.

I absolutely adored Wit, Wiles, and Courtship! Full of witty banter, a lovely slow burn romance, & all the delightful Regency traditions, this book kept me eagerly turning the pages. I always look forward to Jennie Goutet’s books & the gentle, sweet romance she weaves into each of her stories. This book crackles with romantic tension, & I loved the endearing, curvy FMC, & handsome earl who values her intellect & wit as well as her figure.

Lady Camilla Rowlandson’s been in love with Lord Pembroke ever since they met two years ago when his cousin married her sister. Their sparkling banter, & comfortable exchanges give her the impression he might feel the same way too. Lord Rowe Pembroke’s a bit clueless when it comes to Camilla. He thoroughly enjoys her company, banter, & friendship, but when she starts suddenly giving him the cold shoulder, he begins to miss their interactions & wants to do anything he can to make her smile & laugh with him like she used to. He realizes too late that he’s taken her for granted & promises to win her heart.

I absolutely loved the slow burn romance, undercurrent of attraction, all the witty banter, & Rowe finally understanding his heart. Though Rowe’s being pressured to marry by his mother & isn’t looking for love, Camilla makes him realize he wants more, especially when he begins missing her & their quick-witted friendship.

It’s not often we have a curvy FMC in Regency & I loved that representation & the way Rowe truly appreciates Camilla for who she is. Often overlooked by others, I was hoping Camilla would recognize Rowe’s true feelings, & the ending had me on pins and needles wondering if she’d accept his sincerity.

It’s a lovely, sweet romance with several twists & turns that I highly recommend. I’ve enjoyed each book in The Earl’s Sisters series & can’t wait for Joanna’s story next! Camilla and Rowe were a perfect pair, they just didn't know it. Well.. Camilla did, Rowe on the other hand had a hard time realizing what was right in front of him. Until she was completely unreachable.

Rowe is the cousin of Camilla's oldest sister's husband. They tend to be around one another frequently and Camilla has harbored an attraction to him since she can remember. But his friendliness only ever reaches that level. He repeatedly sends her mixed signals of being interested and then he's aloof as a brother might be. Her level of confusion and frustration was very relatable and it's honestly what kept me captivated through this entire story. Camilla struggles with her own self image, being a little more rounded than most women during this time, and she has a hard time seeing herself as beautiful. The mixed signals from Rowe continuously force her to struggle with this as well.

His intentions were never bad though, he honestly didn't realize what he was doing and definitely wasn't doing it intentionally. It's not until much later in the story when she puts up a wall between them, that he first starts to realize how much he misses her company. Then the real emotions start to slide in and he's really unsure of what to do with it all.

The beauty of this story is that it's wonderfully written and provides a lot of inner retrospection for both of the main characters. There is a lot happening on the outside with interactions and events that take place, but what's happening on the inside for both characters is really what drives this story. I was impressed with how well they developed and how frustratingly long (in a good way), it took for them to get on the same page.

Love blooms slowly and beautifully in this story about two people that need some real pushes into reality to see what's happening right in front of them!

I have been loving this series of unconventional sisters by Jennie Goutet! This one features middle sister Camilla, a fuller-figured young woman determined to have a voice rather than fall prey to insecurities. She's had a friendship of witty repartee with her brother-in-law's cousin Lord Pembroke, but while her heart has become involved, he sees her as a sister. So Camilla determines to put him from her heart and mind and find a match that sees her.

I loved Camilla's self-respect despite her insecurities. She was never, ever going to settle for less. It was delightful watching Pembroke's confusion and slow realization of his own feelings - once Camilla's walls went up he was determined to bring them down, but at first couldn't understand why it bothered him. His bumbling attempts to woo her and finally communicate his heart were both sweet an amusing. He absolutely loved and valued her for who she was, he just didn't understand the significance of those feelings until he nearly lost her.

But I loved how her family were determined to help him! I loved their growth as a family as well, coming out of the shadow of their deceased, domineering father to come into their own as individuals and together. A delightful and heartwarming historical romance.

Jennie Goutet has done it again! Wit, Wiles and Courtship is a captivating novel on the courtship of Camilla and Rowe. While Camilla battles feelings of inferiority due to her tendency to be overweight and her late father's strict guardianship, she has had admiration for Lord Pembroke since she met him 2 years before. His friendliness and easy-going ways are very appealing and with the times that he defends her against her childish brother's antics and is drawn to her in conversation, she is hopeful that he feels the same. However he shares that he has no desire for marriage even though his mother is strongly encouraging him to fulfil his duty. When Camilla overhears that he is considering marriage to a neighbor, she decides that she is through with him and will find someone else. When she begins to ignore him and pursue others' company, Rowe realizes that he misses her companionship and quick wit. The way that Goutet weaves this story draws the reader into the struggles of both Camilla and Rowe. I love how she alternates between the perspectives of each one so you can truly understand why each is responding as he/she does. I also allowed me to see the growth of each character: from an insecure adolescent with her first crush into a mature and confident woman and from a confident man content with a self-absorbed life to a caring, giving man. I loved this book and highly recommend it.

Lady Camilla has loved Lord Pembroke for years, since she was too young for him to seriously notice her as anything more than his friend's younger sister. But while they've managed to develop a very close friendship, she's still waiting in vain for him to really see her. When her hopes are raised then dashed, she finally accepts that it's not going to happen, and steps back from their friendship for her own emotional safety. Lord Pembroke can't understand why Cami is treating him so frostily, but he's determined to work it out. The quest makes him pay more attention to her than ever, and start to see her differently - but has he left it too late?

A delightful read, with plenty of humour but also lots of heart. Lord Pembroke is just so amazingly oblivious, and watching him slowly realise what he's missing and begin to work to get it back and make things right - it's beautiful. I enjoyed watching Cami's interactions with her family and seeing the way they support each other, and her interactions with Lord Pembroke were generally also enjoyable - though seeing her get hurt by hopes (unintentionally) raised and dashed again and again was hard at times. I particularly enjoyed the scavenger hunt, even if the note it ended on wasn't exactly ideal. All in all, good writing, interesting characters and a storyline that kept me engaged throughout. Recommended.

What a delight – I devoured this book in one sitting!

This, the third tale in Jennie Goutet’s The Earl’s Sisters series, lives up to its title: witty dialogue between two very likeable characters; a story with many wily twists and turns; and an on-off friendship that makes you wonder if this couple will ever reach the point of courting one another.

Lord Pembroke, determined never to marry, nonetheless enjoys the company of his cousin’s witty sister-in-law, so it’s a shock when she suddenly withdraws her friendship.

Lady Camilla Rowlandson has long esteemed the handsome Lord Pembroke and for a while dared to dream that he might be in love with her too. But she overhears something that disabuses her of this idea and determines never again to make a fool of herself over him. After all, there are plenty of other fish in the sea…

I loved this sweet Regency romance. It’s a fun, light-hearted page-turner that lifted my spirits and left me smiling. It can be enjoyed as a standalone but it's well worth reading the whole charming series.

Jennie Goutet is one of my favorite authors for clean regency historical fiction. I have loved the first two books in the ‘Earl’s Sisters’ series and this third installation did not disappoint! Jennie does such a great job with character development that you feel like you really know the Earl of Poole and his older sisters. The general plot of the series is that the Earl of Poole is only a child when his father passes away, leaving behind the young Earl, his mother and older sisters. Each of the three books so far in the series chronicle one of the earl’s sisters and her adventures or misadventures in finding a match in London. All three stories are well-written and well-researched with accurate historical details but I especially loved the family dynamics present in ‘Wit, Wiles, and Courtship.’ Lady Camilla Rowlandson is a very relatable character- she is witty and smart but uses her wit to cover some insecurities. The book follows Lady Camilla and Lord Pembroke (her love interest) as they go from friends to something more with a lot of funny misunderstandings along the way. This book is well worth your read and so are the first two books in the series!

I really enjoyed this book, best yet of the series. I found it to be a real page turner that drew me into the story and romance and I didn't want to stop reading. 

As they say you don't know what you have until it's gone ... and that was how Pembroke felt when suddenly Lady Camilla wasn't quite as friendly as she had been previously. Lady Camilla is a tenderhearted young lady with a dry wit but she is also realistic as despite her affection for him, Pembroke doesn't return it so she needs to look elsewhere for a husband. Pembroke doesn't know what to think but is determined to make her smile again, properly. He is so blind that he doesn't realise it might cost him his heart.

I loved the witty nature of this book and the way both characters changed and grew through it. I especially loved the way Pembroke was so blind and confused by Camilla. This book is totally sweet and I have really enjoyed getting to know the Rowlandson family. I look forward to book 4 in the series and hopefully to eventually seeing Evo (the Earl) grow up into a responsible young man.

This series has been a pleasure to read. I can't wait to read about all the siblings, especially Evo. He needs a come upping and a strong leading lady to put him in his place! Ha
I can appreciate this heroine and we all can probably relate in some ways to her inner feelings. That internal dialogue that is so defeating and unflattering. I know I've had those struggles. That can be hard to overcome and I liked reading her story with her HEA. I loved the hero character but also wanted to give him a good shake because he was being a dolt, ha. I will say his decleration to her was amazing so I suppose I can forgive that,ha.
Overall, I really do appreciate and enjoy this author's voice. I liked the flow to this story and thought the writing had good imagery to transport me to the time and place of the book. The writing was excellent as well as the scenes created and the dialogue. I could picture everything!
My fav line "I give you a promise. You will think a great many more things about me before the season is over."
Sweetest line "Ah your smile. I have missed it."

Usually Jennie Goutet keeps characters firmly in the Regency Era, but she really addressed issues that are problems right now and I liked that.

This is a book about being brave enough to break with the status quo and to decide what will define you.

Lady Camilla was easy for me to connect with. She's Witty, loves to read, struggles with her body image, and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Words from her past are always there, and it doesn't matter how much evidence there is to the contrary or that she is so much more to her.

The whole Rowlandson clan is very lovable and we get to explore multiple locations with them throughout the book.

I wasn't sure what I thought of Lord Pembroke at first, but realized he was working things out as well. I liked that he was clever and willing to be a big brother to Evo, who really needed it.

There are lots of scenes with family and how family should protect and care for each other; the positive things that happen when they do, as well as the damage that happens when families are cruel, uncaring and unkind.

Love Jennie’s books! They are always such a pleasure to read and always seem to pass the most important test which is: would I want to read it again. For this one, defintely yes! Camilla is an interesting and realistic person, not the typical swooning debutante and atypically for this genre, she is concerned about her weight. She is fortunate to be in a family that is giving her freedom to accept or reject the suitor of her choice. Typically, an author only provides the heroine’s viewpoint, but this book lets us in on the hero’s viewpoint too, which is nice. Rowe is overall a nice guy and, with the family’s father gone, provides helpful guidance to Camilla’s younger brother. But, like many of us, he has tunnel vision and is so concerned about being trapped in a boring or sad marriage like so many he has seen, that he almost overlooks the right woman. Overall this is a deliciously romantic book.

The wonderful Wit, Wiles and Courtship by Jennie Goutet is book #3 in The Earl’s Sisters series. Lady Camilla Rowlandson has enjoyed a good friendship with Lord Pembroke since his cousin married her sister. She wonders if she could care for him more, but overhears him talking about marrying another. She holds her heart back from him when she sees him later in London. Lord Pembroke is beginning to notice Lady Camilla, but she seems so cold towards him now. What happened?

Did you hear my happy sigh as I finished Wit, Wiles and Courtship? This delightful story pulled me in with its beautiful Regency setting, sweet romance, and relatable characters. I wanted to sit down for tea with Lady Camilla and her sisters. I connected with Lady Camilla as she was a marvelous sister, good friend and reflective soul. Lord Pembroke was a wonderful hero who cared for others and matured in the story as he began to realize what he really wanted in life.

I was truly enchanted by Wit, Wiles, and Courtship by Jennie Goutet. The engaging characters, delightful romance and satisfying ending made this the perfect story. I am hopeful there will be more books in the series and we get to see several more happy endings. I highly recommend and this will be a 2026 favorite for me

This is a clean romance that hold so much more than just romance. It has witty banter (who doesn’t love that?) and deeper themes of self love and family. It is a delightful read that I’m sure I will read again and again in years to come. I can’t wait to read the next sister’s story!
I love the whole series and the way this author is able to create so much depth in her characters and books. In this book we see a continuation of the previous characters in the series and some foreshadowing and development of the upcoming stories. You get to know this family and love them and cheer for them. I love watching all of the characters blossom through the series (I adore Evo. Yes, he is a turkey now but I know his story will be great!). I strongly suggest reading the other books in the series as it really brings you into this “world” of this family as well as give insight into Camilla and Lord Pembroke’s earlier encounters.

A clean story. A continuation of the daughters of an Earl finding love. Camilla has always had a soft spot for Rowe, the Earl of Pembroke, a cousin of one of her brother in law’s. He enjoys her company and her quick wit and replies, but espouses settling down. They become close at a house party, and then she overhears him saying he may marry another. When she comes out in London she therefore gives him the cold shoulder And so we follow the twists and turns of longing and misunderstandings.
With Jeannie’s books you know it is well researched, the characters well developed, and it is well written, and this is no exception. This is a thoroughly believable story that engages you without having to resort to the lengths some writers go to with attention grabbing scenarios.
As I typically say when reviewing one of her books, excellent and thoroughly recommended, another masterpiece. I look forward to book four.

I loved Camilla and Rowe’s story!

This book has the tension I love from enemies-to-lovers and the familiarity I love from friends-to-lovers all wrapped into a delightful regency romance package. I love that Camilla is both confident and insecure - that she has real woman vulnerabilities and insecurities but chooses to be unapologetically herself anyways. She’s a character I’d want to be like! And Rowe is the endearing male lead that sometimes makes you facepalm even as you are fully rooting for him. This is the third book in the series and I also enjoyed getting to see the continuation of the stories of previous leads as well as the continued character growth of the other siblings. (Come on, Evo, I’m pulling for you to let your good heart shine through!). I highly recommend this book, and would actually recommend that you start with book 1 and work your way through the series. Thank you, Jennie, for another great read!

It was a delight to read -- well written and good characters. It is the third book in the series. Other reviewers have commented on the fact that Lord Pembroke doesn't realise he loves Camilla but, thankfully, comes to realise it without too much angst or trauma. One of the things I've liked in the series is the sub-plot (if that's the right term) about the young Earl who is full of himself, arrogant and disrespectful of women, especially his sisters. He is learning through the interventions of his sisters' husbands what it takes "to behave like a gentleman". This is a current issue where young men are often dismissive of women -- I hope Jennie continues to explore this part of the story.

I'm looking forward to the next instalment.
