Some love stories don’t end… they just go silent. Until now.He didn’t say her name. He didn’t have to.
When Maverick, an award-winning R&B artist, releases Untitled Track 27, the world hears a hit. But Naomi hears the truth. The lyrics cut too deep, exposing a love she tried to forget and a man she’s been trying to move on from.
Now engaged to someone safe, stable, and ready for forever, Naomi is caught in the emotional crossfire of a second chance she never asked for… and a spotlight she never wanted.
Maverick thought the song would bring closure. Instead, it opens a door neither of them were ready to walk through.
Set against the backdrop of fame, heartbreak, and unfinished business, Congratulations is an unforgettable Black love story about timing, truth, and the cost of letting go.
If you enjoy emotional fiction, second chance romance, and love stories that feel too real to be made up—this one’s for you.
You ever read a book so close to your real-life business that you start side-eyeing the pages like, “Why you in my house?” Yeah… this is that book. The kind that turns you into a full emotional wreck, has you talking back to the characters, pacing the room, wiping your face with your shirt hem. I’ve been swearing for months that “I don’t cry over books anymore,” and then boom: I’m in the corner boohoo’ing like somebody took my snacks.
Listen, I usually run from second-chance romances because nine times out of ten the person does not deserve that second chance. But this story? It wasn’t just a second chance romance ……it was a second chance at love, healing, clarity, and choosing yourself. And my girl Naomi needed that with her whole chest. After wasting years on a man who treated her heart like a suggestion, watching her step toward someone who knew her value from day one? Chef’s kiss.
And of course, right when sis is finally moving on, here come Maverick with that “you don’t miss the water till the well runs dry” energy. Baby, he tried to run that comeback game HARD. His POV had me rolling my eyes so deep I saw last week, but I can’t lie ……reading him unravel and realize what he threw away was good storytelling.
What really hit me was how vulnerable and raw this book was. The author didn’t shy away from Naomi’s internal tug-of-war…….that messy space between “I know what I deserve” and “but what about the what-ifs?” It was relatable in a way that almost felt disrespectful. And her support system? Elite. Her mama and best friend gave her space to feel without invalidating her. That kind of community is a blessing.
Now, that wedding scene? I was sitting there like, “I KNOW you lyin’.” But sometimes you have to watch characters confront the dumb decisions they made and be humbled by the fallout. And truth be told—-I didn’t like the ending ——-it insinuated that Naomi didn’t fully r move on and it gave Maverick some type of redemption arc that I honestly felt he didn’t deserve but it didn’t take away from the way I appreciated and enjoyed this book.
Overall, By the time I hit the end, it felt like I’d been hit by a Mack truck full of emotions. Brandi put her whole soul, kneecap, and edges into this story. Real talksss— she did that.

Would you go back to the love that broke you if they finally showed up ready?
This wasn't the typical second chance love story that I was expecting. "Congratulations" is about a woman Naomi stuck between her future (Derrick) and her past (Maverick)that never truly let go.
Plays Neyo- Do You. That song sums up this book perfectly! Maverick fumbled the best thing that ever happened to him. Would love a book on him to see if he gets a second chance at love.
Also just wanted to add that there was zero spice in this book. Only forehead and shoulder kisses lol
Thank you to Taima @shadesnpages for the book recommendation!
Felt like reading a love letter between two people. I enjoyed it for the emotions Naomi and Maverick felt for each other. 🥹 not the second chance romance I thought it was gonna be but not a read. It was the playlist the author created that had me in my feels while reading.
This was an emotional rollercoaster. 😮💨 I was rooting for Maverick and I was backing Derrick too. At the end of the day, it was obvious who was the better man for Naomi.
Soooo the book I liked, but the premise so real. A mfer always wanna take a good woman for granted. Well jokes on you. Love don’t mean shii w/o action.
This was a story of regret and showed the journey the two main characters went on. The emotions were high. Reading this I learned love when you can and show up how you want to the first time.
Cause Whew ! The emotions were high in this one. Such a good emotional rollercoaster.
