NFL superstar Felix Barlowe was never supposed to be the one.
He’s my brother-in-law’s brother and my nemesis--until one unforgettable night changed everything. I thought it would get him out of my system, not leave me with a secret.
I’m hiding out in a secluded cabin, pregnant and panicking, when Felix shows up with a two-year-old and no idea how everything is about to change. So I do something reckless and offer to help as his temporary nanny. It seems like an easy way to buy myself time. But watching him bake sourdough at dawn and read bedtime stories on repeat, not to mention those late-night kisses, I start to fall for him in a way I never saw coming. Felix Barlowe thinks he’s not built for forever. I think he might be perfect for me.
Piper Hart has hated me from day one. She’s all spark and sass and completely immune to my charm. But now she’s helping with a little girl I never expected to raise, and I can’t seem to get the night she spent in my arms out of my mind.
I’ve failed at love three times--definitely not relationship material. But Piper makes me want to believe again.
And when I discover her secret, I’ll do whatever it takes to prove I’m not a man who leaves. I’m the one who stays.
Someone To Stay is Book 5 in The Skylark Series. A small-town standalone with a guaranteed HEA. If you like grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers romance with forced proximity, found family, and all the slow-burn heat, this one's for you.
USA Today and Top 5 Amazon Bestselling author Michelle Major writes swoon-worthy stories full of heart, heat, and guaranteed happily-ever-afters. When she’s not dreaming up romance, you’ll find her hiking the trails (or avoiding housework) in her home state of Colorado.
Finished this book in less than 24 hours as I typically do with anything Michelle Major writes because it’s always just that good!
I’ve been waiting for Piper and Felix’s story since we met them in book 1 and it was made even sweeter when it was announced that they were the next couple. I loved the super secret trope and the single guardian/surprise pregnancy. I do wish it had stuck a bit closer to the book club bucket list like the others have because it was really only touched on a little bit and seemed like it was speed up really fast in the timeline so that we could have a conclusion for the end of the book
I loved Felix and Piper and Ellie. Felix tried to show he's the fun time guy who doesn't care but deep down he's just a marshmallow. The chemistry was good and it was well written.
I loved Piper and Felix’s story. Almost a one day read, I was hooked.
Felix is so out of his comfort zone, his friends have left him as a guardian to their daughter. They were lost in an automobile accident. He also is keeping his guardianship a secret as they look for other family members. Hence showing up at Ian’s cabin.
Piper is also hiding out at Ian’s cabin, a NICU nurse, who has had some major life changes recently. She is regrouping as she has left her job and is currently pregnant. She has not lost her sass or stubbornness. Piper and Felix do not get along, cannot stand each other, and he is the father of her child (he does not know this – yet). She also knows he has no desire for kids.
Both are dealing with insecurities from their pasts; both bond over Ellie. There is a pull between them, and Piper agrees to watch Ellie. Felix is a giant teddy bear when it comes to Ellie, even though he does not have a clue to what he is doing. I find this endearing. I love how when he commits, he is all in.
This is an easy read, Piper and Felix complement each other and take the time to learn about each other and themselves. As the walls come down, the trust gets stronger.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
I've been impatiently waiting for Piper and Felix's story since Sadie and Ian's book because their chemistry was undeniable, even hidden under caustic remarks. I knew they'd light each other's world's on fire, and they did just that!
Piper is tired of always feeling like the damsel in need of rescuing, and she's determined to learn how to stand on her own two feet. Felix wants a life filled with more than football, but after three failed relationships, he's given up hope of having a family of his own to love and cherish. No one ever stays.
An unexpected pregnancy and the guardianship of a sweet, loveable toddler will challenge their views on life and love, while showing them who will be standing by their side when the dust settles.
Piper and Felix may have been an unplanned addition to the Skylark series, but their story demanded to be told. I think they may be my favorite couple (followed by Taylor and Eric in Someone to Have).
Someone to Stay was everything I wanted (and needed) it to be and more! Thank you, Michelle, for giving us Piper and Felix's story.
Someone to Stay by Michelle Majors is about Felix & Piper who are part of the Skylark series. Right away I liked Piper’s spunk and spirit. I appreciated that she was trying to become self-sufficient in her life and was taking the steps to do just that when along comes our big beautiful man Felix. Felix has been burned one too many times to make any commitment to any female. Hence the story of how they met begins. I love how Felix is committed to doing right by his friend’s daughter Ellie even tho he doesn’t know what he is doing. In comes Piper with all her pediatric nursing experience.
Together they form a bond over Ellie. I love how Michelle has included children in this series. The magnetic pull and spark between Felix and Piper is palpable. Thru each block in the road there is always that magnetic pull…just love how she writes this in this book!
I also enjoy the book club friends that Piper joined when she left her wedding in Sadie and Ian’s story. It brings cohesiveness of previous characters in her other books in the series. It was nice also to see the men of the ladies together and forming a bond as well.
Overall, this was a really good read and one of my favorites of the Skylark series. I would highly recommend it but before you read this one it would be a good idea to read the others first! You won’t be sorry! Enjoy!
This was a great first read from a new author for me.
This follows MMC Felix, a NFL football player and FMC Piper a pediatric nurse for the NICU.
Piper is staying at her sisters and brother-n-laws cabin after her breakup with her fiancé and finding out that she is pregnant after a drunken one night stand with Felix who just happens to be Ellie's brother-n-laws brother.
Felix shows up at the cabin because he is trying to lay low after being left in charge of his two yr old goddaughter (Ellie) after the tragic death of his best friends. The beginning of this story had me chuckling when Piper thinks someone is breaking in the cabin late at night to find out it's only Felix.
“Don’t move,” I shout, pitching my voice low like I’m the threat. Which is ridiculous because I’m currently scared out of my mind and pants-less. “The fuck?” “Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!” I shout as I hurl the tennis shoe in the man’s direction. Apparently, when faced with death, I channel Die Hard.
Felix thinks that he will not be any good for his Goddaughter (Ellie) and puts feelers out for any distant blood relatives. Felix and his brother come from a broken home that had parents that hated each other , and was heartbroken by his ex who cheated on him with his friend.
Piper has heard Felix say that he never wants children so when she finds out she's pregnant she doesn't know what to do it how to tell Felix that he's going to be a dad. She thinks that if she becomes his goddaughter's nanny that she may be able to help him see that he can take care of his goddaughter and their baby.
These two go through a lot and fall in love with each other. However, there are trials and tribulations they face to finally get to their HEA!
There were so many highlights and annotations in this book, I had a hard time picking which quotes to use.
Quotes:
“You’re my rock, even when I thought what I wanted was to hurl one in your direction. You’re Ellie’s person, and you’ll be that for our baby, too. I love you, Felix.” Piper laughs, the sound bright and clear in the sterile hospital room. “So damn much, and definitely forever. Now get up off your knees before you hurt something. You’re no spring chicken.”
“Hey, Barlowe?” I whisper. “Yeah, Hart?” “I’m really glad you’re my person.” “Back at you, sweetheart. Right back at you.”
Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity to read and review this arc @michellemajorauthor
Piper is a pediatric/ neonatal nurse who just found out she’s pregnant with a man she had a one-night stand with, left her job, and is staying at her sister and brother-in-law’s cabin to figure out her next steps. She needs a moment to regroup and plan. What she doesn’t expect is the man she had the one-night stand with to show up with a toddler in tow. Felix is an NFL football player who is flying under the radar, and decides to go to his brother’s cabin to figure out how to care for a toddler and maybe find someone better suited for her. He can’t figure out why his late friend and his wife named him as guardian. He doesn’t have a parental instinct in his body. More than that, he’s not sure why someone is in the cabin, throwing a tennis shoe at him. When Piper and Felix start working together to care for Remi, other feelings begin to take hold.
Ms. Major excels in giving us a story we can sink into, and it was beautiful. Felix and Piper were such a perfect complement to each other. She wrote both of these characters to be smart, tough, but vulnerable. There is so much more to Felix and Piper over and above the one-night stand/ surprise baby tropes, and I was there for it. Two people who have decisions to make and a future to determine. Felix was perfect in his desperation to – at first find a better home for Ellie – then to be the man she needed as a father. I melted every time he did and said something sweet to her. I loved the banter between Felix and Piper. I laughed and sighed as they became closer and intimate again. I love the town of Skylark and the people in it. I’m so glad I got Piper’s story. Her sister Sadie was the fmc in the first book of the series, ‘Someone to Love’. It was good to see the sisters together. While this can absolutely be read as a standalone, reading at least ‘Someone to Love’ will give you an introduction to Piper and Felix.
This story is the fifth book in The Skylark series. I love this story of imperfectly perfect love! Piper Hart, Sadie’s sister, needs an escape from life. Her former fiancé, Bradley now has a wife, and all three of them have been working at the same hospital, until Piper up and quit. She escapes to a mountain cabin owned by her brother-in-law to figure out her life and how she’s going to deal with a baby on the way. She wants to be able to stand on her own two feet, something she’s really never done. Felix Barlowe is the brother of her brother-in-law, Ian, and an NFL wide receiver. He is handsome and made a mistake with Piper they’ve chosen to forget. He has had his heart stomped on three times and is done with relationships. He needs to escape and happens to arrive at the same cabin with a toddler in tow. Piper wonders about this situation because Felix has never wanted children. Piper and Felix have a love-hate relationship, with great banter and sarcasm between the two, and there is definitely chemistry they try to fight. How is she going to tell him their “mistake” has resulted in her being pregnant with his child? They make a deal that she will be nanny to the lovable, Ellie, who is Felix’s goddaughter. She believes this will allow her to see how he deals with a child before she tells him about the baby. Being a mom and grandmother myself, I feel the author has nailed Ellie’s behavior. Playing in her toy kitchen, wanting books to be read repeatedly, and talking to herself when she wakes up is so familiar and characteristic of a young child. Their relationship is moving along nicely and it’s obvious they both love Ellie. That is until Felix makes a comment, one he can’t take back. Will his comment be the end of their relationship or can they get past the hurt? You need to read this wonderful small-town romance to find out how they resolve their relationship as well as being parents to their child. Thank you, Michelle Major, for the opportunity to read this advance copy and provide a voluntary review.
Tropes (yes, those are sourdough emojis) 🫓 Accidental Pregnancy 🫓 Snark to Lovers 🫓 Single Guardian 🫓 Age Gap 🫓 One Night Stand
Michelle has done it AGAIN! This one had me at “yippee-ki-yay, motherfu*ker!” Piper and Felix are the definition of a great feel-good romance that leaves you smiling. Their story is complex and it consumes you from the first page in the best ways. I was so excited to have the book club gang back together – they’re my favorite girl gang!
I loved so many things about this story and who knew the “temporary guardian” micro trope was my kryptonite?! That one snuck up on me, and I loved it! I had several “favorite things” about this book, and one was definitely the banter – I love good banter and Michelle delivered. The playful bantering between Piper and Felix is perfection. I also loved, Ellie so freaking much – and especially the dynamics between Ellie and Felix. I loved seeing him really fall so hard for her so quickly and loved watching it happen through Piper’s eyes.
I really appreciated Piper and her determination to do things on her own, and who doesn’t love a stubborn FMC? They are my favorite; I eat them up! I loved the balance of fierceness Michelle created for Piper while at the same time holding back just enough to also show how delicate she was. I loved watching the progression of Felix being attracted to Piper build into a full steam ahead possessive caveman – and how nurturing he was deep down.
I say it every single time, but Piper and Felix might be my new favorite in Skylark, Molly and Chase brought me to my knees – but these two were so freaking good. I CANNOT recommend a small-town romance series enough; this one has it all. I cannot wait to see what’s next for the book club and Skylark!
Thank you, Michelle for allowing me to ARC read Someone to Stay, I loved it so much!!
I really have enjoyed getting to know the residents of Skylark, Colorado and this story was no exception. Piper and Felix’s story was one I had wanted to dive deeper on, so I was thrilled when I received an ARC of this book from author, Michelle Major. The story will be published 1/20/26 so you don’t have to wait much longer to check it out for yourself.
So to get right to it, while attempting not to give any spoilers….. This story was a gut punch to the feels (in the best possible way) for me. Many tissues were involved. Unlike the previous Skylark books, the book babes’ bucket list took more of a supporting role in this story, which really helped me to focus and get to know Piper & Felix so much better…… Don’t worry, you’ll still get your fill of the book babes book club & their significant others. Actually, all the guys bonding and supporting one another was something I really enjoyed. Definitely swoon worthy, and speaking of which…. Wait until you learn Felix’s stress relieving hobby!
The snark & sparks between Piper & Felix was enchanting, as well as believable. Understanding their pasts and complicated family histories made their reactions to the multiple drastic & unexpected changes to both of their lives make more sense. This story was witty, full of heart and has a little bit of spice right when it was needed. If you’re not really into sports, don’t let Felix’s NFL career put you off from checking out this story. It’s a sports adjacent story, not the focus. Like the previous Skylark books, this story is a a great read to snuggle up with when you just need a mini break from your own reality or like to read about people lifting each other up when things get rough.
Someone to Stay is book five in the Skylark series and is the story of Felix and Piper. This is a small town, second chance, single dad/nanny, close proximity romance.
Piper and Felix had a one night stand that neither can stop thinking about but neither are willing to admit to. Felix drops in on Piper’s hideout from her imploding life and secret pregnancy with a secret of his own, a little girl he was given guardianship of. What starts out as a way to gauge Felix’s ability to be a parent slowly turns into Piper falling in love with the little girl and the man she has declares she hates.
I have been waiting for Piper’s story and it absolutely did not disappoint. There was so much that Piper and Felix has to overcome to be able to see what the other could be for them. Each had a traumatic past that colored their views of the world, trust and their own love. Michelle writes such emotionally complex characters with pasts that they must come to terms with and heal from. The cast of characters that we have come to love in this series made their appearances and the book club ladies continue to love and support one another through their hardships. Felix was able to form a bond with the spouses of the book club ladies and find friendship that he had been missing in his life and learned to accept that friendship as genuine. The banter and chemistry between Felix and Piper was on fire and will leave you sweating but the emotional moments make them such a fantastic couple.
If you are looking for a romance that will have you sweating from the spice and kicking your feet from fun and emotional banter, Someone to Stay is the perfect book for you. I received an advanced copy of this book and am leaving an honest review as a show of my appreciation.
Tropes: One Night Stand Found Family Single Guardian Surprise Pregnancy Forced Proximity Age Gap
Book 5 of the Skylark Series
I do not typically enjoy reading the surprise pregnancy trope solely because I find it illogical to use having a baby as a reason to stay together after conflict. I am more amenable to reading if the pregnancy is known from the beginning and the MCs spend the duration of the book actually becoming a couple as was with Piper and Felix.
Felix has always said he doesn’t want kids because of his childhood and worrying that he will end up like his father. Piper wants a family as she was raised by her sister after her dad left and later her mom died. When Piper finds out she’s pregnant after a one night stand with Felix, she hides away in the cabin to clear her mind. Her solitude lasts less than a day when Felix shows up at the cabin with a guest.
Over the course of their relationship, Felix and Piper both grow a lot. Felix realizes he needs to put his heart back out there and stop using the past as an excuse to push Piper away. Piper learns to accept help and that accepting help does not make you weak. I think taking into consideration how young Piper is put the conflict into perspective. She doesn’t have a lot of life experience so it makes sense that she would want to try and make it on her own without help. Plus Felix does not have a way with words and tends to put his foot in his mouth. I really liked Pipe and Felix together - they balance each other out well.
I love that there is always a little preview of what’s coming in the next book. Avah is such a badass and I can’t wait to see where she ends up.
Someone to Stay is the 5th book in the Skylark series, however each one can be read as a standalone. Pipers life has essentially gone up in flames--she left her fiance, had a one night stand with a guy she can't stand (hello Felix), spontaneously quit her job when her ex-fiance and his new fiance start working at the same hospital and on top of that..... she finds out she's pregnant. And the father is the one guy she can't stand. Did I mention that Felix is her brother-in-laws brother?! She flees to the family cabin in the mountains to clear her head, when none other than Felix shows up with a huge surprise... the 2yr old daughter of his late best friend. Oh, and he doesn't know she's pregnant with his baby. PHEW.
Things get complicated after Felix shows up at the cabin--Piper starts nannying Ellie and all of them grow attached to each other. It's only then that she drops the bomb that she's pregnant.. and it's his. She wants to be able to stand on her own two feet because she needs to know she can provide for her baby. Felix is down BAD for her, but she keeps pushing him away due to her own fears and insecurities revolving around her own father leaving her.
Felix will steal your heart with his 5am stress induced sourdough baking, late night researching of topics related to Ellie and Piper, and his general golden retriever attitude. This was a cute story, although the constant push-pull from Piper seemed a bit repetitive after a while. I also found it a bit strange that the story focused on Avahs situation so strongly for a brief section, but then never actually addressed it after that? Perhaps there is another book in the works that tells that story, I'm not sure! I
I received a copy of this book as an advanced reading copy in exchange for my honest review.
I have had the pleasure of receiving and reading all the books in this series as advanced reading copies and none of them have been a disappointment. Although they could each be a stand alone story, each one does give a little hint to the next one towards the end.
Piper and Felix seem like oil and water, or maybe fire and gasoline. The relationship is contentious and riddle with snarky comments and jabs at each other. But one night while he is celebrating signing a contract with a new team, and she is celebrating the upcoming wedding of a childhood friend, the two share an evening they will never forget. Even though they still poke fun at each other, and seem to share a mutual dislike for one another, that night changed things. But Piper is afraid to tell Felix just how much things have, and will, change.
When they run into each other at Ian's cabin a couple months after that night Piper mistakes him for an intruder and throws a shoe at him. When he says he has someone in the car, Piper assumes he has a woman with him. She never expects that he has a toddler that he has custody of after the death of one of his friends.
Over the next few weeks the two continue to push and pull with themselves and with each other. She thinks he doesn't want kids, and to be fair he has come right out and said as much. He thinks he's not capable of love and fatherhood. Together they learn so much about themselves, about each other, and about what it means to truly take care of yourself....and allowing others to take care of you too.
Piper Hart can't believe that she spent the a night with someone that she doesn't like in a moment of madness and that man turned out to be her sister's brother in law Felix Barlow. And when you do something in an euphoric state there are consequences, and then he turns up at said brother's getaway, where she has gone to get away, with a little girl and how the heck does she tell someone that doesn't even like kids, he's going to be a father. Felix Barlow can't believe that of all places to find a bit of refuge to figure out is life, it's at his brother's place in the mountains. He has become a guardian to his best friends young child and he has not a clue how to look after a child and when he turns out Piper, his nemeses and the women he had an unbelievable unforgettable night with, could this be the answer to his prayers. There is just one little problem, she doesn't like him and she is his brother's sister in law.
There are lots of surprises in this 5th book of the Skylark series. And Piper and Felix have lots of big chemistry that they try to fight, while both keeping secrets from one another about that night they spent together. I loved these two together and Michelle Major does what she does best with her characters, gives them lots of personality, humour, fun, and of course passion that is off the charts. Throw in a sweet little girl and this small town romance will have you cheering for their HEA. Each couple in this series has been what small town romances keep me coming back for more and Piper and Felix are no exception. Can't wait for the next for book 6... Thank you Michelle Major for the opportunity to read an ARC of your book.
All I can hear in my head is a sweet little child’s voice calling “Fee” and “Pi”, I adored reading this wonderful addition to the series. I am loving this series as each book is either as good or better than the one before. Piper is trying to figure out what is next to come in her life. Love, work, her narcissist malignant newly married ex-fiancee has moved back to their small town with, the mean girls from high school who seemingly haven’t matured a bit since they graduated and seem to revel in smiling while they verbally smack you with a smile on their faces, an unexpected pregnancy by a man with the emotional depth of a shallow puddle who happens to be her brother in law and more. When she quits her job to regroup, she heads to her sister and BIL’s cabin for some quiet time. Enter a surprise visitor, Felix, the man she’d prefer not to see again, trying to figure out how to tell him he’s going to be a parent and a surprise child he has been left in charge of. Their road to figuring things out, wading their way through their own feelings, getting in and out of their own and each others way and more is fabulous. Sweet, smart, funny, a little sad (due to circumstances), filled with good characters, except for the ones were supposed to think aren’t and all the things that keep us coming back for more. Oh, and the cutest baby ever who has had her world rocked. Sometimes as a series goes on, it starts to fade, but not in this case. this one, as with her other series, just keeps getting better. I can’t wait for the next.
Piper is a recently unemployed NICU nurse who goes to her brother-in-law's cabin to find respite after an upset at the hospital where she worked and find out she is pregnant following a one night stand. The secluded cabin in the woods seems like just the break she needs to figure things out until she hears a prowler who makes his way inside the cabin. It turns out the "prowler" is none other than Felix Barlowe - her BIL's football star brother, along with his 2-year old goddaughter, who is also trying to hide away while he figures things out, and Piper is not exactly thrilled about his appearance.
Piper agrees to help Felix out and be his temporary nanny as he adjusts to his new role as Ellie's guardian and prepares for his upcoming football season. Little does Felix know that Piper is pregnant and trying to figure out what her next step is and who will be a part of her future.
The snarky banter between Piper and Felix is comical at times. Someone to Stay is full of emotion and Michelle did an amazing job keeping readers engaged and turning the pages. This book is the perfect balance of tropes like forced proximity, athlete (but not overdone), surprise pregnancy, age gap (not a huge focus on it, but it's there), unexpected guardian, found family and enemies-to-lovers.
“Real strength, I’ve learned, is trusting someone with your whole messy heart and believing they’ll hold it carefully.”
If you’re looking for a feel-good romance with a happy ending and all the “awww” 😍 moments you could ever need to fill your love tank, this book is for you! There’s witty banter, drama, complicated family dynamics, found family, forced proximity, smoking hot athletes, adorable toddlers and even some light hearted shoe throwing (that’s my girl, Piper!). In short: an absolutely great time.
Piper and Felix are a fun couple, and I really enjoyed their back and forth, hate/love dynamic. In fact, their banter was so fun, I actually wanted more of it! Their growth from complicated acquaintances to fully in love felt a bit rushed, but the pace of their relationship makes sense with the overall plot. I am definitely hoping to read more about this duo in future books.
There’s an amazing found family dynamic that ties together blood family with friends-turned-family that was heartwarming, and I loved how much Piper grew into herself with the support of her newfound friends. Found family is one of my absolute favorite tropes, and this story hit it out of the park (sorry - I don’t know any football metaphors 😆).
Overall, this is a funny, heartfelt story of romance and personal growth, and I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.
Thank you for sharing an ARC with me, Michelle! ❤️
I ate Piper & Felix’s journey up!!! Under 24 hours because I couldn’t put them down, I had to get them to their HEA!
I think it was such an interesting dynamic having Felix in the position of being a guardian and looking at impending fatherhood as it made his self doubt in his abilities so unfounded to everyone else. He was so beautiful with Ellie, offering her everything in the world even though he didn’t think he was good enough to guide her in the world. He really tried to show up for Piper at every turn (even when at times he fumbled and made a few mistakes) he tried to show her unwavering support but also tried to give her space to find who she is.
Piper is young but she just wants to stand on her own two feet, thinking this means doing everything yourself. She finds beautiful support in the book club but especially Avah (I love their friendship dynamic) but she also finds that you don’t need to be alone to be strong. She steps up for Ellie so quickly and without question, that alone shows that she was strong and could do things to support herself and the people around her.
LOVED getting to see the men having their own banter and friendships forming, especially in times of crisis. Ultimately, Piper and Felix were so sweet together, they just needed to trust in each other and themselves.
Piper Hart’s life is an absolute mess. Her ex-fiancé and his new wife have returned to Skylark and are now working at the hospital where she is a NICU nurse, prompting her to spontaneously quit. She is also pregnant following a night of what both parties claim to be hate sex with Felix Barlowe, NFL start and her sister, Sadie’s brother-in-law. Piper has taken refuge at Ian and Sadie’s woodland cabin retreat to sort things out when she’s woken up by an intruder who happens to have a key to get in. It turns out to be the last person she wants to see right now – Felix. He also has a two-year-old child in tow. Why is he there? What does he want? Who is this little girl, and why is she with a man who only a few months ago stated that he never wanted to have children? How will he handle finding out he’s going to be a father? Find out all this, and so much more in Someone to Stay, the fifth book in Michelle Major's Skylark series. Readers of the previous books will recognize many of the characters, but it is also easily read as a stand-alone. It will definitely make you want to go back to the first four to get the back-stories of those characters, though!
I absolutely adore Piper and Felix together!!! They were like oil and water until that one night that changed their lives forever ... only he doesn't know anything about it yet! This book is filled with so much emotional upheaval, but also so much heart and affection. Fans of the series will recognize Piper as Sadie's little sister and she's fighting her attraction to Sadie's brother-in-law Felix. A drunken one night stand has led to a secret pregnancy that she's scared to tell him about, and before she can get up the guts to do so, he shows up at Ian's cabin where she is staying with a toddler in tow. What's a girl to do but grab that adorableness up and hold on tight? Great characters, top notch drama and so much warmth and love!
I love this group of friends so hard. I'm starting to get nervous about the non-answers from Sloane. It's going to break my heart if things don't go her way. Can't wait to finally get into Avah's story next. Such an amazing group of friends! I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a tight knit group of girlfriends who rally around in good times and bad as each finds their forever love.
I love all the books in the Skylark Series and I thought Someone to Have was my favorite......but now it's Someone to Stay. I just loved this book. Piper and Felix have gone through so much when they were growing up that it makes them think they are incapable of love and family.
When Piper runs to her sister's and brother-in-law's cabin to escape her ex and his new partner, she was surprised by Felix's unwelcome drop by late one night. Only to discover he was there with his Goddaughter trying to figure out what to do knowing he couldn't raise her. Piper is carrying her own secret that would rock his world. Little does he know, how he handles Ellie will not only change her life, but everyone's around him, including Piper.
I really liked all the friends and support they both have. If you've read any of my other Skylark Series reviews, you know that I would love to be part of a bookclub like Piper. The bond between the ladies is very strong and they are there for each other, no matter what.
I can't wait for another Skylark book - I hope that there will be more to come featuring Avah and Sloane.
This is another wonderful addition to the Skylark series. I love the group of friends that are the center of all of the books - they love each other as they encourage each other to try new things. As busy as they all are with their lives, they are always available when one of their members has a problem.
Piper hated Felix - he was all that she despised in a man. Despite that, they had a drunken one night stand and then walked away hating each other even more. Problem -- Felix is the brother of Piper's brother in law! She goes to her sister's secluded cabin to try to figure out her life. She's pregnant with Felix's baby and isn't quite sure how to handle it because he has told her that he never wants children. In the middle of the night, Felix shows up at the cabin with a 2 year old girl - the daughter of his best friend who died in a car accident. Felix never wanted children and is looking for a family member so that the toddler can be raised by someone else. When Piper and Felix meet again in the middle of the night at the cabin, there's a lot of trash talk between them and both are convinced that they still hate each other. However, love and hate are two feelings that can change. Once Piper sees the way he takes care of the little girl and finds out that he bakes bread as a hobby, her feelings towards him begin to change but she still doesn't want to tell him about his baby that she is carrying. As the sparks begin to fly between Piper and Felix, they need to change their perceptions of each other and decide if they are both looking for a happily ever after.
If you like grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers romance with forced proximity, found family, and all the slow-burn heat, this one's for you.
Went back to Skylark for Felix and Pipers turn; I had a feeling this would be my favorite yet, and it definitely didn’t disappoint!
Piper: I feel like we would be good friends and binge our girl Olivia Benson! I loved her inner monologue and whole personality. My heart felt all her emotions throughout and kept rooting her on. Getting away from a jerk ex, dealing with bitchy friends to finding her true inner circle, inner confidence and he perfect family.
Felix: true golden retriever heart, how any girl could break his heart beats me but thank god they did so he could find his forever. I want my husband to learn Felix’s true hobby (I won’t spoil it) 😂 and I personally enjoyed his spilling of his thoughts even if they came out how he didn’t intend it. The way he becomes the dad he always wanted and immediately protects those he loves, true hero.
And my soft spot, Ellie. Her curly cutie, bluey loving perfect addition. My heart is so full ❤️
This one, it’s an emotional rollercoaster but damn does it go so deep to your heart. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ @michellemajorauthor outdid herself again
I have so enjoyed the Skylark Series. I believe this is the last book in the series and I'm a bit sad about that!
Both main characters have life changing issues just dropped on them and hope to be able to sneak away to figure out what to do. Unfortunately they sneak away to the same place!
Piper is still reeling from a wedding that didn't happen, quitting a job she loved, a crazy one night stand, and the consequences of said encounter.
Felix agreed to be the godfather to his friends daughter, never thinking he would actually have to take over after their deaths. He thinks he's not 'father' material and is looking for someone else to raise his friend's toddler.
Now, the two of them have to figure out how to live with their choices. Do those choices include each other?
I enjoyed this whole series. I hoped there would be more of the book club characters in this book, but the story didn't suffer because there weren't more references to that fun group! This book can be read as a standalone but why deprive yourself! Read the whole series!
I’ve loved every story in this series and Piper and Felix’s story is no exception. They rub each other the wrong way from the beginning, but I really thinks it’s because they were so attracted to each other and are fighting it. One night, they run into each other while Piper is at a bachelorette party and Felix is out celebrating joining the Grizzlies. At the end of the night, they end up in bed with each other nd the next morning they decide they will never speak of it again. Oh how things have a way of biting you in the butt. When Piper quits her job and goes to stay at Ian’s place, she gets a surprise. Felix needs to lay low and he decides to head to Ian’s place too. I’m not going to leave any spoilers, but I will sayInloved these two as a couple and I was rooting for them to get their acts together and realize what they could have as a family. Grab your copy and see if Piper doesn’t win you over. I did care for her much from reading about her in the previous books.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
First of all, Michelle… thank you for allowing me to read this ARC. We read books about ‘meant to be love stories’ but I truly think I was meant to read this book!
This book brought me back to moments I’ve experienced in my life that I needed to revisit. Moments that weren’t forgotten, but just reminders of what really matters in life.
From the pregnancy, the uncertainty, the independency, the career change, the stubbornness, the freaking wedding ring. Just so many things hit so close to home and reminded me of so many things that I don’t think I’ve related to a book like this ever.
The way the author’s writing put Piper’s emotions into play and how she wrote and explained them, I had myself folding my knees to my chest right there with Piper!
I don’t know. I didn’t really write about the actual book in this review as much as I did how I feel after reading it! I’m just, wow! Thank you Michelle! Just thank you!
I have written this review over and over not because the book was bad but because the book was so good. Part of me wants to tell the storyline and the other part wants you to go in with only a few clues at what will happen because it is just that intense. There are parts when you want to cry and parts where you laugh. I love Michelle Major books and this is one that I can see reading multiple times.
Piper Hart and Felix Barlowe are people who didn’t start off on the right foot at all, in fact there was some hate involved. But one night led them to their own story, a story that involves finding love, trust, pregnancy, guardianship, trust and more. Like any relationship there are going to be some problems and kinks in their lives, but once they figure them out, nothing will stop them from being together.
Thanks to the author for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Piper has been keeping secret that she is pregnant with Felix’s baby. She goes to a cabin near Vail, Colorado to have some time alone. At night, Felix shows up with a secret of his own: he is recently the guardian of a young girl Ellie whose parents died in a car accident. Piper is shocked because he told her he doesn’t want kids. Felix doesn’t think he is the right person to take care of Ellie.
Piper agrees to help Felix as a nanny for Ellie for one month. When she sees him with Ellie, she realizes she is falling for Felix. When Felix finds out Piper is pregnant, she wants to figure out if she can count on Felix to be there.
The two main characters have their own challenges as their lives start to change at the start of the book. I love the scenes with Felix baking bread and Piper’s reaction to him. They can’t stay away even as they tell each other it can’t happen. It’s a beautiful story about having faith in yourself to live your dreams.
Michelle Major is one of those authors who sneaks up on you. You read one book and think..."this is good, I like her". Then you read the next 3 and realize you're getting excited to see her name in your emails! You get really excited when she releases another book! You know you're going to love it. You don't know a thing about the characters but she's awesome so you're not worried...you're going to love the characters. One night stand with her sister's brother-in-law. He annoys her...they were drunk and it will never ever happen again. Months later....life happens and she needs a break. Brother in law kindly offers his huge mountain cabin. Guess who shows up in the middle of the night??? Yep...Mr One Night Stand. But plot twist!!! He's not alone.... and technically she's not either....she's pregnant.... I literally could not put this book down!! I gobbled it up in a day...I will re-read.
