Firstly, the thing that I loved most about this book was how easy it was to follow. The explanations given for everything were really simplified and laid out in a way that doesn't feel intimidating. It helped me understand more about my own body and mind, and step one is figuring out what the issue is before you can focus on managing your anxiety, stress, or sensory overload.
This book is basically two books in one, which I feel is a really good way to educate and get into the exercises. We first get into understanding the vagus nerve, its importance, and how we can make the best use of it for our physical and emotional well-being. Then comes the polyvagal theory, which helps you take things one step further.
What I also really like about this book is that it is written with neurodivergent individuals in mind. This truly makes it the kind of solution everyone can have access to and implement at their own comfort level or pace.
There are many examples given in the book to explain concepts more clearly, and I could actually put myself in those situations and see what my reaction would be. This made me reflect on personal situations and how I reacted to them, which helped better identify my triggers. Once you can find a way to figure out your triggers, you're better prepared to deal with them.
As someone who has also felt like my anxiety is getting the best of me and has felt overwhelmed in certain situations, this book made me feel seen. It made me feel like I'm not the only one feeling this way, and that validation also acts as a motivation factor.
Personally, some key takeaways while following this book have been: * I have benefited a lot from the grounding exercises, which are really easy to follow but make a world of difference. * Deep breathing exercises also help me feel energetic and more positive, and it only takes a few minutes to do them. * Getting lost in day-to-day chaos leaves little time for any physical exercise. But following this book actually helped me start really small with my physical exercises, which didn't take up too much time. * Maintaining a journal was something that I never thought I would find enjoyable, but this book made it seem so simple that I gave it a shot. Having a place to put down my thoughts and observations eventually helped me understand things better and also track my progress. * What I also learned was how certain foods can affect our vagal tone. Adding these to my daily meals has been a work in progress, but I do feel better about my eating habits. * The exercises are quite flexible, which doesn't add more pressure to the task and actually makes the whole process more enjoyable.
Everything was done according to my own comfort because life does get in the way, but having the freedom to do things my way along with the guidance definitely helped.
Thank you to Talia Cantarel and Rosali Publishing for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The Nervous System Reset Collection: 28-Day Vagus Nerve Reset and Polyvagal Theory Workbook was an interesting read. The author effectively conveyed the concept of stress and reset, emphasizing the importance of resetting our nervous system through exercises that promote calmness in our bodies and minds.
The author delves into the intricate relationship between breathing, cold showers, acupuncture, and diet in regulating our nervous system. I found the information provided to be informative and easy to do.
This book will change you, whether you know what the Vagus Nerve is or not!
I had never really paid much attention to my Vagus Nerve though I was acutely aware that my gut was intensely concerned with all the stress, insomnia, anxiety etx I’ve been through. With this I feel like I know exactly what’s happening and have the tools to give my body the nurture it deserves. This is a more holistic approach to how to manage your body.
It is also a manual in a form of a guide, a meticulously designed series of exercises with great instructions and explanations that you can try to implement into your daily practices.
Having both books combined is the most valuable tool you’ll want & need!
Use this as a workout book, have it on your nightstand as a guide or come back to it as a ritual every few months, do the 28 day challenge - Talia gives you the tools and lets you decide how you want to use them.
The Vagus Nerve is that one roadmap to how you reply to life, stress, everyday chaos, fatigue … the list is endless in a way.
Talia wants the best for us and being a neurodivergent is hard work. It’s a daily battle that needs tools and self discipline but also a lot of love and patience: we need to pay attention to what our bodies tell us, it’s all there.
The brain is your most powerful & important weapon to ground you, boost your immune system, help you tackle daily challenges and make them easier. It’s a plan you can make your own, take as much as need, as much as you think is good for you - Talia is out guru toward a more peaceful day to day experience.
Thank you Talia for this one, it’ll be my 2in1 book I’ll go back to, it feels like I learn something new with every read!
Thank you @rosalipublishing for this fascinating book. I enjoyed being part of the review team. 🎉
I had heard of the vagus nerve in the past, but never really investigated what it actually was. This is a vital part of our daily well-being; basically controlling our lives. It controls digestion, heart rate, blood pressure and breathing. In addition, our overall mood and happiness rely on this nerve being in good working order and taken care of properly.
Cantarel goes into great detail about the nerve’s function and how to get the maximum potential out of it. There are many things we can do to keep it in good working order. Taking deep breaths, being mindful of responses we take to things (taking a moment to decide how we want to respond), activities, and relaxing hobbies. We can also create a calendar to remind us to take that short coffee break in the morning, take a short walk, reflect on our day etc.
Activating the vagal nerve the right way, can help with our nervous system responses to stress in the workplace and at home. This book gives scenarios of what actual people have gone through. It shares how they used methods to stimulate the vagus nerve properly in order to overcome the stress being caused.
I learned so much and am now on a new journey to happiness, mindfulness and more relaxation in my life. What a great reminder to take care of ourselves! I highly recommend this book. Truly.
Such a great resource if you’re serious about wanting help with anxiety, stress, ADHD, or just wanting to feel better overall! This book focuses on activating your vagal nerve, and the author explains the science behind it in a really clear, interesting way.
I’ve been on my healing journey for over 10 years, have read and put into practice MANY different techniques and I still learned new things with this book, which I loved!
The practices shared aren’t complicated at all, they’re super easy to work into your day. Having them all laid out in one place makes it easier to remember and actually do them. Even just taking 3–5 minutes to breathe, laugh, dance, hum, or sing has made a huge difference for me!
I really liked the workbook, which helps keep everything organized and again, easy to follow. Sometimes with these sort of self help books things can get complicated and it actually causes more stress!! This isn't the case here, you can tell the author put a lot of thought, time, and care into creating this to make it as accessible and easy to implement as possible.
I definitely recommend checking this out if you’re looking for simple but powerful tools to support your mental and emotional health.
We all suffer from stress, anxiety and emotional feelings whether we are against toxic family members, sad news and being somewhere we feel unsafe.
I see children going through this as well has adults and I was intrigued how this book could help me but also to help others I know.
The author has wonderfully given examples to each chapter and techniques in how to focus on your mind body and soul. There is no technical wording which will confuse you. Its all laid out very simple to read and understand. This is a book which you will keep picking up for guidance and continuity. Some of the scenarios which was relatable to me I found interesting and I will be adopting these exercises in my daily life. It was so helpful and I have even recommended this book already to my friends. The recommended apps and podcasts noted I will be looking into.
I’m new to the concept of the vagus nerve, but I’ve been hearing more and more about it lately. When I was asked to review this book, I thought, why not? As a Special Education teacher, I experience high levels of stress multiple times a day, and my students also face their own challenges and stressors—so I was curious to see if this could be helpful for both me and them.
The Nervous System Reset Collection was clear, practical, and easy to follow. The explanations are simple enough for anyone to understand, and the workbook’s exercises can easily fit into a busy schedule. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who experiences stress, is neurodivergent, has ADHD or PTSD, or is simply interested in learning more about calming and supporting the nervous system.
In the past I have read Vagus Nerve Reset and it helped me navigate my postpartum stress/anxiety/depression by reducing the overstimulating nervous system reactions. I still today work with the tools and knowledge I have gained from this book. So I had to jump at the opportunity to level up my tools and learn about the polyvagal nerves too! I love that they have combined these two books into one source. These topics are equally important and fascinating to learn about. And it’s amazing how small tools used from this book can calm the noise of my anxiety. The different vagal systems are intriguing to me and very helpful in understanding where I’m at emotionally and what tools will help bring me to a more calm center. Everyone could benefit from this workbook.
As someone who struggles with anxiety, and ADHD symptoms, this duo is a breathe of fresh air. Talia provides a breakdown of how the vagus nerve plays an important role in regulating mood, stress, clarity, and the like, and how imbalance in this nerve can throw you off kilter. Through both the workbook and nerve reset book, the author gives the reader helpful information and tools to restore calm, reduce anxiety, and train your body and brain to respond to particular cues you are training it to sense. It’s simple and easy to implement, and I would highly recommend anyone suffering from the above symptoms to give these books a go.
Even though this is outside my normal reads, I do sometimes enjoy nonfiction. Especially books that help calm my busy mind and bring some balance to my life. This one was such a great find.
I loved learning more about the vagus nerve and how it connects to our overall sense of calm and regulation. The routines and exercises are simple but powerful, especially for anyone who struggles with anxiety, ADHD, or just feeling overstimulated. Everything felt practical and easy to apply to real life, even on busy or stressful days.
A 5 star read that left me feeling grounded, balanced, and genuinely lighter
This book was amazing! It provided so much information on how we can reset our nervous system. I never knew much about the vagus nerve but I am so glad I chose to read this book. It has taught me a lot and just how easy it is to use the exercises provided to reduce my anxiety and stress. I learned so many new techniques that are simple to do and I plan to do these exercises often. I also loved the science behind everything, it was well explained and not too technical.
