“Don't read this in a public place, you won't be able to stop yourself laughing out loud. It reminds me of Douglas Adams, the careful plotting mixed with those absurdities and jokes that sneak up and make you snort tea through your nose. Hilarious.” Goodreads. What if you really were the centre of the universe?Norman Mi’s house is shrinking. He’s sure of it.But that’s the least of his problems, even if he doesn’t realise it yet. There’s also the odd time dilation effects at the office, the invisible spiders that no one else can see, and the eccentric neighbours who insist on eating his bacon sandwiches. In spite of all of this, Norman is a completely average man; a man so bland he would disappear in the middle of Ikea. The trouble is, Norman doesn’t want to be an average man, he wants to be unique, he wants to be somebody, and he wants to amount to something. And he’s about to get exactly what he wants; whether it’s good for him or not.Normalverse is the first part of a trilogy about normality and pan-galactic rent disputes.
Normans house is shrinking. He´s sure of it. But nobody wants to hear any of that. They don´t even see all those blinking spider devices that are all over the place. Something strange is happening and Norman is determined to find out, what.
This science-fiction comedy will make you laugh and cringe – maybe at the same time.
Though it is not that much happening in this book, it was quite funny and I liked it. It could have been longer and the characters could have been a bit more shaped out, though.
I liked the book especially because it was a bit like the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. But also, it was a bit too much so – the plot, the characters and certain other things reminded me a bit too much of Douglas Adams series, which makes "Normalverse" less unique as it deserves.
The humour is great and I laughed out loud several times, which does not happen very often.
The book is in serious need of some correcting! The mistakes were not THAT many but really embarrassing at times. (You want examples? At your own risk:)
I saw some great potential in this book and it was very funny so I liked it nevertheless. But it was hard to see this as a finished book. I think with a bit work put into it, "Normalverse" could be totally awesome!
When I chose this book, I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting, but the description had me expecting more than I received from it.
There were a few parts that were mildly amusing, but for the most part I kept wondering where the author was going with the story. When I realized where it was going, couldn't wait for it to end.
There were also several spelling and grammatical errors that sometimes left me reading a sentence over and over, trying to decipher what it was suppose to say.
Overall, the book left me confused and wishing I'd picked another to read.
This is a seriously weird novel. Three protagonists who constantly bicker with each other, one a timid cubicle dweller, one a female martial arts student/professional survivalist, one a retired lawyer. All three have the same insane landlords, one of the protagonist is convinced his apartment is slowly shrinking, the protagonists end up in the middle of an invasion and on an alien spaceship. Oh yeah, there are neural implants, too, that have their own personalities...
Add all of that up with even more weirdness and humor, and you have a seriously entertaining novel. Dunn hit a homerun with this one. If you haven't read it, read this book!!!
