A Simple Guide to LEAPS Investing: Build Wealth and Generate Income with Long-Term Options and Poor Man’s Covered Calls

Rate this book
If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to trade options safely and profitably, this book will show you how — step by step.

In my first book, A Simple Guide to Selling Options, I explained how to sell puts and run The Wheel Strategy on blue-chip dividend stocks to generate steady, low-stress income.
That approach still works — and it’s perfect for beginners — but what if you want to magnify your returns without taking reckless risks?

That’s where LEAPS options come in.

LEAPS (Long-Term Equity Anticipation Securities) are long-term call options that let you control 100 shares of a stock for a fraction of the cost of owning them outright. In this book, I’ll show you how I use LEAPS to build leveraged positions on quality companies like Apple, Nike, and PayPal — and how to manage them like a pro.

You’ll

How to pick the best stocks for LEAPS options

How to choose the right strike price and expiration date

How to trade Poor Man’s Covered Calls (PMCCs) for monthly income

How to manage risk and protect your capital

How to decide when to take profits and when to let winners run

You’ll also see real trade examples, including a textbook Apple PMCC that returned 11% in just 18 days — and the lessons I learned from dozens of other real-world trades.

Whether you’re a beginner learning options trading for the first time or an experienced investor looking for a smarter way to build wealth, this short, practical guide gives you a repeatable framework for long-term success.

By the end, you’ll understand why I now focus almost entirely on buying long-call LEAPS on quality stocks — and why this simple, low-maintenance strategy has been my most profitable approach yet.

If you want to learn options trading, build consistent income, and invest smarter with LEAPS, this book will show you exactly how to do it.

Good ideas and good concepts, but needs some refinement

I use a similar approach to Kevin's and have been doing it for years. Kevin's approach is basic and requires some refinement. For example the short calls shouldn't have strikes so close. Deltas on the shorts should be less than 20, I'm typically below 15. This ensures more than enough LEAP profit to cover losses on the shorts. Rolling a LEAP up is another technique to lock in some profit while keeping you in the game. One big advantage of LEAPs over short term options is that you can hold them over a year and avoid short term capital gains.

I wish Kevin hand spent more time on position sizing. A common mistake is for people to create an entire portfolio of LEAPs. A portfolio like this is going to get murdered at some point in your trading career. That leverage needs to be used wisely.

All that being said Kevin does a good job of getting the basic strategy across. Its enough to get you started just remember when you finish the book, you've only just started learning. The book is well worth the money.
