When Open-Mic Night Turns Deadly at a Mountain Inn, One Woman's Fresh Start Becomes a Fight for Survival
Elsie Harper thought inheriting the charming Mountainwood Inn would be her salvation—a peaceful retreat from her bitter divorce and a chance to rebuild her life. Instead, she gets murder.
When caustic novelist Felix Lawson—a man who made enemies as easily as bestsellers—turns up dead in a locked guest room with a taunting limerick scrawled in lipstick on the mirror, suspicion falls on everyone at Elsie's inaugural open-mic night. Fortunately, she's not investigating alone. Handsome Dr. Tom Dawson becomes her trusted partner in sleuthing, their undeniable chemistry sparking amid the chaos.
With her clever border collie Murphy's help, they navigate a maze of secrets involving the wounded sous chef and sharp-eyed front desk manager—both with suspect pasts. But when Murphy uncovers hidden manuscript pages and Elsie realizes the killer knows the inn's every secret, the stakes turn lethal. Someone will kill again to keep their identity buried, and this time, Elsie is the target.
I don’t take it lightly to say I think a book was written by AI, but I think this book was written by AI. Towards the end, lines were left in about page count. One character had a fake identity so she was Denise and Diana, but once it was revealed her name was still used interchangeably and at one point in the exact same paragraph.
Someone says that the doors were blocked from the outside and everyone is trapped in the inn yet right after that someone breaks their ankle and they call for an ambulance and she goes off to the hospital, the plot of the door being barricaded completely forgotten. I thought this was a murder mystery, but it really wasn’t and it turns out there are two more books in this series and I didn’t realize. I will not be continuing.
It looks like this “author“ has released a book every two months since August so either this is AI or they’re rushing through the books way too quickly. At the very least, editing is needed.
Elsie inherits the Mountainwood Inn and the first thing that happens is that someone is found murdered. He wasn't a nice person and had been blackmailing people in the inn for several years. No one was real sorry to see him go, but then things continued to happen that made everyone doubt each other. The tension in this story was very thick so that you could actually feel the despair of the people that he was blackmailing. Elsie's dog Murphy was very good at finding clues in this book. I received an arc and this is my review.
An interesting mystery with a huge cast of characters. When Elsie inherited the Mountainwood Inn from her aunt she had no idea what she was being entrusted with. From her arrival things started off making her wonder about the staff and the guests. The reader needs to keep going to unravel all the mysterious people at the Inn. A fun read with suspense, clues and a surprising conclusion.
Elsie Harper had inherited the Mountainwood Inn and then a murder is discovered. Lots of suspense and mayhem to the read. This mystery captivates you from the start and on the edge of your seat. I received this ARC copy and this book to other readers .
Lots of suspects and twists. I found some parts tedious. Sometimes, it was non -stop problems. I got tired of that. The plot kept me guessing. It is well-written, and the characters are good
This book was really weird. Story was all over the place! Characters throw in here and there, and impossible to care about any of them. Just too far fetched, and zero depth. Do NOT recommend.
It was okay. Too many alike names to keep everyone straight. Seemed as if she just arrived there and then trouble and is well accepted by the town...... A bit over telling.
Cute, cozy mystery with lots of twists and red herrings. The story has some draggy moments and sometimes get a little convoluted, but overall is a good mystery and plot. A few afternoon read.
