This was refreshingly different!

Author Lynette Eason shows readers that life’s cracks have the potential to become gateways to our healing, renewal and even resilience.

She takes us to Broken Chains Ranch in Tennessee and introduces us to FBI Special Agent Collin ‘Sully’ Sullivan and his partner, Piper Whitaker, who are protecting Ollie Callahan, a fourteen-year-old murder witness. They soon discover the danger of a neighbouring prepper community and the ranch’s ties to this cult. It’s not just Ollie’s survival at risk and soon the ranch is besieged.

While I absolutely loved the pacing, the twists, and the pulse-pounding action, I also appreciated the focus on embracing brokenness. I liked that characters were able to find strength and wholeness in the midst of challenges. I’m still thinking about the grace extended and the transformation process for Eason’s characters. The thing that will stay with me the longest is the character who determined that her brokenness wasn’t defeat but simply an opportunity she was given to rebuild her future with intention. Her past didn’t need to destroy her if she chose to let it reshape her. I love that thought!

This is book one of the ‘Soldiers in Shadows’ series and I’m already excited about the next sequel!

I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Twlight Tactics is a new series from Lynette Eason that starts with a bang with lots of action and danger all the way to the end. At the beginning I was not at all sure how this was gonna go. But I loved the fast-paced suspense with romance with twists and turns. We see someone who is targeting & after Ollie, an orphaned teenage girl who witnessed a crime and is under FBI agent Collin "Sully" Sullivan and his partner Piper Whitaker's protection and care. Also, someone is targeting Elena, a survivalist expert who left a preppers group possibly. This romantic suspense has a good faith element to it as well. Which I’ve always come to love about Mrs. Lynette’s books. She gives us a good suspense with right amount romance and faith.

“I love your strength. Your compassion. The way you see past people’s mistakes to their hearts. The way you make me want to be better than I am.”

This amazing book is filled with heart-pounding danger, amazing characters, and heartwarming faith. I especially loved the theme of God’s grace. This is my first book by this author and it will not be my last. I was hooked from the first action packed chapter to the very satisfying last sentence.

Sulley is intelligent, gentle, and protective. I loved his determination to keep Ollie safe. I loved his growth, especially his remembering God is in control. His battle to forgive and trust himself was intense. I loved how well he and Elena worked together and how quickly their friendship grew. His protectiveness of her was amazing. Elena is guarded, skilled, and caring. I loved how brave and determined she was. I loved the connection she had with Ollie. I loved how Sulley accepted her strengths, abilities, and help. I loved that even as the danger escalated Sulley and Elena kept their heads, accepted help, and depended on others to keep Ollie and Elena safe. I loved that they encouraged one another’s faith. Oh that last chapter! I might have melted into a puddle, so sweet and tender.

A few more quotes:
“Sully—” “Not now, kiddo. Get back down and stay there, okay?” She did as he said. “I’m scared.” “I am too, but we’re going to fight our way out of this and be just fine. Got it?” “Sure.”

“It means sometimes good people make terrible choices when someone they love is in danger.”

“What are you running toward?” “You. This place. A family that chooses to love each other instead of being forced together by fear.”

This action-packed, intriguing read kicks off the Soldiers in Shadows series. It hits the ground running with a high-speed car chase as FBI agents Sully and Piper and fourteen-year-old mob hit witness Ollie, who is under their protection, are headed for the Broken Chains Ranch. The suspense and high stakes danger keeps building to the end with unexpected twists that kept me reading and guessing! The prepper cult connection to Elena, survival expert and instructor at the ranch, adds to the intrigue and complexity of the plot as does Sully and Elena's developing romantic relationship. I appreciate the gentle faith thread with reminders of God's grace and the importance of relying on Him no matter how dire the circumstances. I totally enjoyed this book and heartily recommend it.

What a dynamic start to a new series! Eason weaves together a tale of two mysteries that take you on a dangerous journey as you try to figure out who and where the danger is coming from. Captivating suspense that keeps you completely engaged with your heart pounding as you try to outrun the enemy.

This book is also filled with wonderful characters that you connect with like Agent Collin Sullivan, Elena, and especially young teen, Ollie. It reconnects us with Maya and Gideon from Snowbound Secrets as the setting is their ranch, Broken Chains Ranch. The characters are strong, likable, and help draw you into the story.

I am very excited for this new series! This book has set the bar high, but the teaser for book two at the end has me anxiously awaiting it!

Twilight Tactics by Lynette Eason is an excellent suspense/thriller. It starts to ramp up quickly through the initial chapters and pages and never really slows down too much. There were some pretty intense moments that really made me sit on the edge of my seat to find out what was going to happen next. There is no doubt that this book is an entertaining book, but a book filled with the faith in our One and Only True God. I truly appreciate this book and others like it where the authors are not compromising to win over audiences.
There is a whole cast of characters, but Sully and Elena are the two main characters that are focused on the most. They both come from a background where they have been hurt by some traumatic experiences.
Sully is an FBI agent who now has the duty to protect a young girl who has witnessed a murder and heard plans by the mob in the area. Sully and his partner must protect her until she can testify, and this is where things start to get riveting. Of course, wouldn’t you know it, the mob wants Ollie as she is nicknamed to be silenced by whatever means necessary, so you can just imagine what happens throughout this ride.
Elena is a girl that has a past living and being a prepper. She left that life behind and now lives on a ranch that helps people deal with issues such as PTSD or other mental challenges. She bonds with Ollie and a little with Sully. Elena has certain skills because of her prepper training and some from her own resilience, so Ollie wants to learn some of those things and this is one of the ways that her and Ollie bond. She is not sure what is going on with her feelings as far as Sully is concerned, but she knows she is not ready for a serious relationship, so she is keeping it professional and just helping Ollie.
The preppers and the mob have a common interest or so it seems. The two groups team up to accomplish these goals. It is up to Sully and his partner to figure out what more is afoot with these two groups or there could be dire consequences if they cannot.
Now you know more about what the book is, you will have to pick it up and find out what happens. I hope you will be just as excited as I was reading it. I recommend grabbing it as soon as you are able and I venture to say, you will not be disappointed.

Twilight Tactics is the kind of book that I didn’t want to put down, but because of the intensity of the suspense and the danger that surrounded so many of the characters, I found myself just taking short breaks to ponder what I had just read and to try to guess what I thought would happen next. The plot is complicated, with a ranch that is serves as a haven for those who need a respite from life. It is appropriately named the Broken Chains Ranch. Everything there seems very peaceful for the owners and the veterans who reside there until Sully and Piper come with teen-aged Ollie, a witness to a murder whom they have to keep safe until she can testify. Ollie is precocious, proactive and one of those teens that you don’t want to be in charge of because she isn’t an easy client. But I loved her character and all of her believable flaws! In fact, I loved all of the characters and felt as though the author portrayed them all in a way that I could picture them in my mind. The plot was extremely fast paced and had a lot of twists along the way as the author covered subplots with the mob, preppers, the ranch and all who lived there, local law enforcement and relevant high tech like drones and jammers that cut off communication. Just when I was thinking that one more that could not go wrong for Sully and his team, another red herring fooled me. This is a tightly written plot that crackles with tension from beginning to end, with good chemistry between the characters and a sweet portrayal of a developing romance even in the midst of all of the danger. Filled with suspense and abundant secrets and lies, this is one of the best romantic suspense books I have ever read, with the emphasis on suspense. This is an edgy page turner that offers a strong message of forgiveness, hope and redemption which are all cleverly wrapped into the plot.

Twilight Tactics is an incredibly engaging work of romantic suspense!
FBI Special Agent Collin Sullivan, known as Sully to his friends, and his partner are guarding 14-year-old murder witness Olivia and are taking her to Sully's cousin's ranch where vets receive therapy. The agents and Olivia have been found at several safe houses already. Elena Thompson, a certified trauma counselor, works at the ranch and connects with the teen and Sully.
The bullets start flying on page one. Twilight Tactics is action packed, but also deals with emotions. The main characters are very well developed, and their flaws make them believable. The attraction between Sully and Elena feels authentic. They undergo growth from their interactions with each other and with Olivia.
The plot pulled me in and never let go! There are twists and turns to keep the reader completely immersed in the story.
Lynette Eason's writing style is absolute perfection for romantic suspense. She keeps the reader at the edge of their seat for the suspense while developing the romance. The dialogue flows well and seems natural for each character. The author gives a good feel for the setting without slowing down the story.
There's an HEA, and the suspense part of the story is wrapped up well.
I highly recommend this story to readers of clean and of Christian romantic suspense. I would definitely read more from author Lynette Eason.
I received a complimentary copy through NetGalley and am sharing my opinion of this very well-written book.

The first in a new series by author Lynette Eason gets off to an explosive start with a car chase that introduces the reader to three of the many characters in this book. Sully and Piper are tasked with keeping Ollie safe inside the witness protection system and prevent the mob murderers she witnessed taking her out before she can testify against them.

After Ollies safety has been compromised Sully decides that his cousin’s ranch that acts as a trauma recovery facility for veterans with PTSD is the best place to hide out. But this is when a second storyline enters with another of its residents, Elena, trying to remain safe from the preppers cult she thought she had left behind.

The pace never lets up as the fight for survival intensifies, with danger closing in from both outside the ranch and potentially from someone already within its walls. Sully is a strong protagonist with plenty of potential to carry this series, and his growing connection with Elena adds a welcome emotional layer to the action-packed story. The novel also weaves in a subtle thread of faith that feels natural and uplifting without ever becoming heavy-handed.

Many thanks to Great Reads Book Promotion for an advance copy of this book via NetGalley. My review will also be featured as part of the Instagram Book Tour on 4th August.

ROUGH DRAFT
3.5 stars
"Now wasn't the time to be mooning over Collin Sullivan - Sully. Not that there was ever a good time for that."

The man did make it a little hard to focus, but focus she would. She must. A young girl's life hung in the balance; Ollie had been placed under federal protection until she could testify in a high profile mob trial, she'd been an eye-witness to a cold blooded murder. Elena Thompson would gladly contribute her wilderness skills to help the two F. B. I. agents protect Ollie during their stay on on the highly secure grounds of Broken Chains Ranch.

It doesn't take long for trouble to find them though, signs of a security breach happen quickly and Elena's past as a member of the prepper community staying on land near the border of the ranch make her wonder who is the target, is it her or Ollie . . . . . or even worse, is it both? Even though her mother helped her to escape fourteen years prior, she has reason to believe her father and sister are still there.

Realzing early on that this story was driven by a fairly complex and multi-pronged plot, it was the characters that will make my remembrance sweet. They bonded with each other and I bonded with them, and even though the romance was light, it felt genuine. And only God. "It's grace. All of it."

When multiple safe houses are compromised, FBI agent Sully and his partner Piper need a safe place to take their witness Ollie until the trial. Sully chooses his cousin Maya's ranch, a place where she runs a clinic for vets recovering from PTSD. If he happens to run into her friend Elena, he won't complain, even if he doesn't have the time or inclination to get involved with someone. Elena has always been attracted to Sully, but with her past growing up in a prepper community she has a hard time connecting with people. When the ranch comes under attack attack and it appears that they are after Elena more than they are Ollie, Elena plans to leave everything she loves to keep the ranch safe. When Sully learns of her plan, he becomes desperate to help protect both her Ollie, determined not to lose anyone else like he did his last partner. Together the two of them might be stronger, but will they be strong enough?
Another great suspense novel. It had a sweet romance running under the whole story, and I admit I was a bit surprised by the final ending. It was hard to put down, and the action starts right on page one. If this is what the first book in the series is like, I am excited to read the upcoming releases

I quickly got caught up in this intriguing story where danger was the norm. Broken Chains Ranch is the setting for an exciting adventure about an FBI agent Collin/Sully/Sullivan and his partner who are trying to protect teen Ollie before she testifies to witnessing a mob murder. On the ranch run by cousin Maya, Sully encounters Elena Thompson who helps Maya run the ranch. But Elena has secrets about her past that are about to catch up to her.
“It awes me. That God can take our worst moments and turn them into something beautiful.” This was a great representation of a godly hero and heroine as they combat the bad guys.
I liked the cooperation between local agencies when they were up against tech savvy villains. The twists and turns kept me on my toes as I tried to figure out where the threats were coming from.
The attraction between the main characters progressed slowly because of the proximity to danger, although danger brought out admirable qualities that advanced that attraction. Trust had to be earned.
A fantastic start to a brand new series by a prolific writer of suspense.

Non-stop action! Great start to a new series. You can always count on Lynette Eason for excellent romantic suspense, and Twilight Tactics, Book 1 in the new Soldiers in Shadows series will keep you on the edge of your seat! I highly recommend this story and I can't wait for the next one.

FBI Special Agent Collin Sullivan-aka Sully and his new partner Piper Whitaker are tasked with keeping 14 year old murder witness Ollie (Olivia) Callahan alive, only their safe houses are being discovered one after the other. Sully brings them to Broken Chains Ranch owned by his cousin Maya Sullivan Price, as a trauma recovery facility for veterans. Former military nurse, survival expert, and trauma counselor, Elena Thompson befriends and coaches Ollie in self-defense. Soon, the ranch is targeted, communications are jammed, bombs are placed, and they don't know who the target is, Elena and her mysterious past, or Ollie, the mob murder witness.

Ex-military heroes, high tech military grade drones, bomb sniffing dogs, and more add to the non-stop action. Family, friendships, and good people help each other through the high stakes danger.

Thank you to the publisher Revell, and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

I enjoy all of Lynette Eason's romantic suspense novels, and in this new series opener she ramps up the ante even more than usual.

Firstly, her romantic suspenses are quite light on the romance, which suits me as I'm more into the suspense bit than the romance. This one feels believable so far as the romance goes - apart from one moment which I won't give more details of here!

The story opens with a bang as FBI agent Collin 'Sully' Sullivan arrives at Broken Chains Ranch - just about! - with his agent partner Piper and Ollie, a teenager who is a vital witness in a murder trail. With their previous safehouses being found by those seeking to silence Ollie for good, Sully is worried about a leak in his team and he knows that Broken Chains Ranch, with its trusted staff and top notch security is their best hope for survival.

I really enjoyed this book, which is more suspense than cosy mystery. The pace barely lets up from the start and there are plenty of twists and turns. The 'prepper' community gives an unusal element to the story and is very well described. The two-story-in-one element gives plenty of 'bang for your buck' although I did ocassionally find myself getting a bit behind in the 'what, why, when, who' elements! Cleverly, although we open with one story (and that story is concluded within this book), it's the second strand which occupies much of this novel. I had my suspicions about one of the characters from early on, and although I ended up being right, this didn't diminsh the story in any way. Finding out why I was right took quite a bit longer!

Another top notch suspense romance from an author who consistently justifies her place at the top of the bestselling rankings.

NOTE: I read a pre-publication version supplied by the publisher. No review was required. All comments and opinions above are entirely my own.

• About the Book •

Tasked with keeping foster teen, Ollie, safe after she was the witness to a mob hit, FBI Agent Collin (Sully) Sullivan seeks refuge at Broken Chains Ranch. But, that refuge is quickly disrupted when the property gets surrounded.

When Elena Thompson decided to help teach Ollie self-defense, she didn’t expect for her to use those skills on a series of attacks at the ranch. The question is - are the attackers after Ollie? Or are they from Elena’s dangerous past?

As danger closes in, and it remains unclear who the attackers are after, can Sully and Elena keep Ollie safe before it’s too late?

• My Thoughts •

This was such a fantastic start to a brand new series! Twilight Tactics is packed full of unrelenting suspense, secrets that have you questioning everyone, and was a fantastic read.

There were so many fun and interesting characters in this book, but I adored Ollie. She was so strong and fearless throughout everything she experienced, and I just wanted to hug her.

I loved Sully and Elena’s characters. Sully was the fierce protector and would truly stop at nothing to keep Ollie safe. Elena was capable in her skills, and I really liked how she was able to handle herself.

The suspense in this book was fantastic! There were a couple elements that I did guess, but there were others that caught me completely off guard! The series of attacks on the ranch were so interesting and always kept me guessing what was going to happen next.

This book is not romance focused - if you are looking for a romantic suspense that is way more suspense focused, you will love this book! I do wish that Sully and Elena discussed their romantic interest in each other sooner since it did make it feel a little rushed at the end. However, it wrapped up the book perfectly!

Overall, this was a fantastic start to a new series. I enjoyed every second of it and I can’t wait for the next book!

I am honored to have been on the launch team for this book and received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

It was almost as if danger was just waiting to pounce.

FBI agents Sully and his partner, Piper are responsible for a young murder witness, Ollie. Unfortunately several safe houses have been breached bringing them to Broken Chains Ranch, a place of healing and renewed possibility for former military heroes and others. The owner, Mara, is a doctor and Elena is a former military nurse. There are therapists available to help those living there deal with PTSD and other challenges. All this set in the serene setting of trees, horses and peace.

This serenity is shattered with the perimeter fence being cut, intruders, drones, shots fired and more. Have they been found yet again or is there a mole somewhere in the FBI? Welcome to Soldiers in Shadows, the new series that is sure to keep you guessing on the edge of your seat! This early copy was received through Revell, Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

Ooh, Eason has kicked off a her new series Soldiers in Shadows in a big way with Twilight Tactics! The intrigue is big in this book!

I love all the moving parts: mysterious pasts, a genius teen, murderous mobsters, and a crazy cult all make for a super fun story. The action doesn't slow down, either, so trying to solve the whodunnit will really keep you on your toes.

Trying to move beyond hurt is always difficult, but Eason frames it really well in this story. There are both positive and negative examples as well as hope and strength shining through every page. It's really a great story with a solid message behind it.

So if you're up for an exciting cast of characters and a serious murderish mystery, check out Twilight Tactics.

Wow! This book is a breath-taking ride from the first chapter until the very end!! This book brings the characters to life and you feel like you are right there with them through every suspenseful moment. I love how veterans are a major focus in this story along with many contemporary themes. You almost feel like this could be pulled from a newspaper headline today. If you like stories with action, suspense, complex characters, a touch of romance and enough conflicting clues that will keep you guessing until the end, you don't want to miss Elena and Sully's story. I am so glad that this is the first book of Soldiers in Shadows because there are so many characters I want to learn about from this book. This is the first book in a new series. If you like lots of action and suspense, you will enjoy this book. This nonstop book has you on the edge of your seat. There are a lot of twists and turns.

Both of the main characters have a past they have to reconcile and have learn to move forward. Even though the plot may not have been my favorite, it is still well written. And I did enjoy the action and suspense. I do prefer a little more interaction with other characters and would have liked to learned a little more about the male main character. You do get a small glimpse into part of his background, but the book seems to focus more on the female main character.

Reading this book was like boarding a mystery train. It would speed along for a while, and just when I thought I’d worked out where it was headed, it would take a sharp turn and I would have to rethink my guesses!
The characters were realistic, with Sully trying to control things instead of trusting God, and Elena desperate to reconnect with her family. I was touched when Ollie finally realised that she wasn’t alone, but was surrounded by people willing to do anything to keep her safe.
If you enjoy suspense with faith, twists and turns and a touch of romance, then this is the book for you.

You won't want to put this book down! I stayed up way too late reading it! Broken Chains Ranch is home to people from various walks of life who are recovering from their past Ollie is a foster teen who witnessed a mob murder and finds safety here under the watch of FBI Agent "Sully" Sullivan and Survival expert Elena Thompson who escaped from a nearby "prepper" group as a teen. When attacks begin on the ranch, no one is certain who is behind them...the mob, the preppers or someone else! Things reach tense levels when Elena tries to "rescue" her sister and father from the prepper group. I loved Twilight Tactics and recommend it to others! Lynette Eason is one of my favorite authors. This is one of my go-to romantic suspense authors. This book has so many interesting aspects to it. It has the mob and preppers. A fourteen year old girl happened to see a mob hit and is being protected by two FBI agents while the main female character is possibly being targeted by the prepper group she left behind. I really enjoyed the interactions between the male and female main characters but I also really enjoyed the interactions between the fourteen year old and everyone she came across. She definitely came off as older. Her character was so well written. This novel had several twists and turns that I did not expect. They made the book even better. I highly recommend it.

Ahh! A newly released Lynette Eason! Technically this book doesn’t release until August 4 but my pre-order arrived early! Fast paced with strong character development, I couldn’t put this one down! This one might even be Lynette’s best work to date. I appreciated the humor in tense situations, as well as the sprinkle of romance. The book felt like a rollercoaster with the first half having me guess about the threats and bad guys, with the next half having me guess about how the good guys would win. This book is also grounded in Christian values which elevates the values held and integrity displayed by the characters. An amazing, high suspense start to a brand new series. The next installment in 2027 can’t come soon enough!

What a wonderful start to a new series. Twilight Tactics starts off with danger and action from the first page and doesn't stop. The plot was engaging and fast-paced with twists and turns and close calls. Is someone targeting Ollie, a young teen who witnessed a crime and is under FBI agent Collins "Scully" Sullivan and his partner Piper Whitaker's protection? Is someone targeting Elena, a survivalist expert who left a preppers group? This romantic suspense novel with faith threads will keep you turning the pages and guessing until the end.

I absolutely love Lynette Eason's writing! This book has suspense from the very beginning & kept my attention throughout the whole book. Who knew growing up in a prepper family could turn deadly. Being betrayed by someone you trust is probably one of the most difficult things to endure & there were a couple of instances in this book that happened. And the way Sully cared about Elena & Ollie was so sweet and I love the protective side of the MMC! But Elena & Ollie showed just how strong there both are!! This is the start of a series and I am looking forward to continuing the series!

I was given an advanced copy and my thoughts are my own.

Twilight Tactics by Lynette Eason. Didn’t want to put it down. This is book 1 in Soldiers in Shadows series. Full of mobsters, cults aka preppers start off thos fast paced book. FBI agent Sully, survival expert Elena and foster girl Ollie are at Broken chains ranch trying to survive a mob hit on her. Fast paced, action packed romantic suspense. Enjoyed the characters which kept you invested in the story. Thank you to #NetGalley and #Revell for this Arc. This is my honest review. Releases Aug 4, 2026

Well the action kicks off in the first pages and it doesn't slow down through the whole book. I felt myself holding my breath in the more intense moments and there are a lot of them. The story is about Sully a FBI agent who has a teenage girl in his custody who witnessed a crime and she needs to be protected. There is plenty of danger from attacks and it makes the story highly entertaining. I also enjoyed the relationships between the characters and how they combine to make a page turning suspenseful romance. I feel because the action doesn't stop it is fast paced and a quick read.
