A drowned dryad. Ritual markings. A killer who isn’t finished.

They pulled her from the lake – young, beautiful, and very, very dead. As Chester’s only magical Detective Inspector, I get the cases the Common police can’t handle, and this one has Other Realm written all over it.

When the medical examiner discovers runes carved into the corpse’s bones, I know we’re in for a bumpy ride. Elemental runes. First victim drowned. My gut says there’s more coming, and my gut is rarely wrong.

Then a centaur drops out of the sky, literally, and my theory’s confirmed. The only link between the victims? Botany, a vampire-owned bar that serves the magical and the mundane… and never seems short of trouble.

I’ve got a new unit at my back, Unit 13, and we’re still figuring out how to work together. Add Krieg, the King of Ogres – deadly, smart, and far too good at getting under my skin – and things get complicated fast. With a killer on the loose and the clock ticking, we’ll have to move quickly… or the next body that drops may well be one of ours.

Immerse yourself in The Other Detective Series – perfect for fans of supernatural crime, complete with a fierce heroine, gritty murder investigations, and a slow-burn romance.

Another fabulous (literally) supernatural crime novel – with a touch of Romantasy – from Heather G Harris. The book is fast paced, exciting – and very witty. I love the writing style, and was loath to put it down. I had to read out a number of paragraphs to my husband, who also admired the prose – even though he would never read a fantasy novel:
“Ava had told me matching dress meant something in ogre culture though I didn’t know what. If he [Krieg] was dressing to match me, the urge to wear a samba outfit next time we went on a date would be hard to resist.”

And for Michael Caine fans:
“Over the years I’d learnt to channel the perfect amount of air to break a lock and open a door but not blow the bloody door off.”

As with ‘Veiled Justice’, the book opens with the first murder. The dryad victim’s fear and shattered hope is palpable. It turns out that ‘fear’ is what the murderer needed, and they were not going to stop at one body, nor at one species.
Stacy Wise is on the case, and is once again shadowed by the drop-dead-gorgeous King of the Ogres, Krieg. Loki, the caladrius, is also on hand, but seems to be a bit off colour.
The story involves black witchcraft and necromancy, possessed vampyrs, traumatised trees, an undercover Connection operation, illegal potions and imps having their tails cut off. Stacy has to deal with the leaders of the Griffins, the Dragons, the Vampyrs – all exceedingly dangerous in their own way. However, Stacy is not to be trifled with either. She is woman who can take care of herself – which (perfect mate material) Krieg, fully understands.
… “there was something about him that told my inner goblin he [Krieg] was a deadly predator; worse, my id knew he could procreate and provide, and was determined to give him a chance to prove it. My superego knew that procreating with the King of the Ogres was very bad idea but my ego was stuck, torn between my basic bitch urges and my lofty ideals”

Krieg and Stacy do finally kiss, but anything further is put on hold. Stacy is now 684 days celibate, and counting.
The first victim is a dryad. The subsequent victims are deposited close to Jude Jingo’s dryad grove. While Stacy would love the guilty party to be the criminal shape-shifter Jingo (currently a dryad), the evidence seems to imply he is being framed. Who the framer (and hence murderer) might be becomes a haystack/needle situation, since Jingo has seriously upset nearly everyone.
Lots of leads that go nowhere, a few red herrings, and some diabolical runes, all make for a very enjoyable supernatural crime novel, that I heartily recommend. I have pre-ordered the next in the series!

Another stellar addition!

Mystic Justice is book two in The Other Detective series by Heather G. Harris and narrated by Alyse Gibbs.

The story kicks off with a grim opening that plunges readers into a high-stakes murder mystery. As the body count rises, Stacy Wise returns to investigate a case fueled by dark magic and necromancy. She is once again accompanied by the stunning Ogre King, Krieg, and her caladrius companion, Loki, who seems uncharacteristically out of sorts.

From black witchcraft and possessed vampires to traumatized trees and illegal potions, the narrative is packed with supernatural intrigue. With Stacy working alongside a new team, the plot weaves through gruesome crimes, mistreatment of imps, delivering a dark and complex urban fantasy.

The character dynamics reach new heights as the "slow-burn" tension between Stacy and Krieg continues to simmer beautifully. Beyond the central murder mystery, the deep emotional threads and genuine character growth throughout the cast kept me completely hooked.

Audio: Gibbs continues to deliver a masterful performance, bringing The Other Detective series to life with superb narration. From the opening scene to the final word, the combination of rich character work and a gripping plot kept me completely captivated. By the time the story concluded, I was already eager to start the next audiobook.

Mystic Justice is a fast-paced, witty, and exhilarating ride that is a total joy to experience. I am already counting down the days until the next installment is released in audio!

This series is so addictive that the moment I finished book one, I immediately grabbed the prequel and then dove straight into this sequel. The relationships deepen and that simmering, slooowww burn between our heroine and Krieg is developing beautifully. I liked seeing Channing step more into the spotlight, I adore Krieg, our main character is amazing, and Loki steals the show in every single scene.

After the opening victim POV chapter, the mystery itself didn’t hold quite the same tension for me as the case in book one. Thankfully, the character growth and the emotional threads between everyone kept me fully engaged, even when the case wasn’t hitting as hard.

Still, a very solid second book and I can't wait for the next!

This is an honest review of an ARC.

Holy moly! This was another incredible book from Heather G. Harris that I very much enjoyed, somehow even more than the first in the series! I swear Heather just gets better and better with every book she writes!

This book starts off with the murder of a dryad. Stacey is called to investigate and when another body shows up and has similar markings to the dryad, Stacey and her team realize it's a race against time to stop the killer before more bodies fall. The investigative aspect of this was really well done with her whole new team on the case. There are a few suspects that they spend time whittling down and the whole thing eventually comes to a satisfying solution with the real culprit that I didn't see coming. The motivation behind the killer doing what they were doing was really creative and I empathized with them. I loved that her new team had some familiar faces showing up from the Other Realm series, it's going to be cool to have them around again!

Kreig convincing his way onto the case so he could spend time with Stacey was so sweet. The growing relationship between Stacey and Kreig is lovely, with both tender moments and banter. The banter is great and the way he interacts with Loki is just adorable. Loki has some hilarious moments again, and there seems to be a bit more to him which may be delved into in future books. Stacey's slow revealing of her past is great, it's really building the tension and breaking my heart for her as more is alluded to.

I loved the inclusion of Amber and Bastion from the previous Other Realm series, both of those characters are fantastic and in my top favourites of all time (Kreig and Stacey are up there too after this book FOR SURE).
The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger, enough to get me eagerly awaiting the next book. (Though I was already eagerly awaiting it anyway!)

Just one of my many favourite highlighted quotes:
'What do you think?' he asked, amused. 'Is there any chemistry between us, Inspector?' The way he spoke my title made it sound downright indecent.
'If there was any more chemistry, we'd start a nuclear war,' I admitted.

I was fortunate to receive an ARC to read this book early, and my honest first impression was “Yay!”

This is the second installment of a new police procedural series set in the Other Realm by author Heather G. Harris. We are following the exploits of Detective Inspector Stacy Wise and her investigative crime team, which continues to expand during the course of this story. And that’s even if we don’t include her unofficial consultant Ogre High King “Call Me Robbie” Krieg. Yes, the delicious slow burn romance from the first book is continuing and deepening for those who may be wondering.

DI Wise operates in a space where she often has to act as JJE (Judge, Jury, and Executioner) and this tale begins with a brutal murder of a dryad that emphasizes that Stacy has to see hard things, make difficult decisions, and sometimes kill in the name of Other justice.

As often happens, one murder leads to another, and the mystery of who and why provides some interesting twists and turns along the way. We learn a bit more about Stacy’s past and her motivation. She and Krieg cautiously draw closer to one another. Jude Jingo, the doppleganger dryad we met in the last book, keeps getting drawn into the murder scenes and won’t quite leave Stacy alone. Familiar characters from the rest of the Other realm make appearances, but this book is set firmly in Stacy’s world where justice is rarely blind, but is also rarely straight forward. A satisfying ending to the murder plot is accompanied by a heck of a hook that leaves the reader clamoring for the next book already. And yes, Loki the caladrius continues to be a challenging, yet endearing, sidekick for Stacy.

Heather G. Harris continues to solidify her murder mystery chops and expand the Other Realm is a deliciously satisfactory way. If Stacy is your first introduction to the Other realm, you have a lot of great reading in store.

I am absolutely loving this spinoff series featuring Stacy Wise and King Krieg. They are such a fun duo to watch. Who knew having someone shadow you on the job could be some romantic!! The side characters are just as entertaining as the main duo! I can’t wait to read more.

Heather has done it again! The newest adventure into the other realm with inspector Stacy wise did not disappoint ! I received this as an ARC and devoured it in just two hours. It was amazing to see how Stacy’s mind worked to solve the crime, and to learn about the friendships that she nor krieg realized we’re there. It was nice to see a soft side to the vicious ogre we’ve known in the other series from the other realm. Watching their relationship blossom has been amazing and Loki makes me laugh so hard! I love the ninja bird that poops in coffee!

Even better than book 1!

Stacy's on the trail of ritualistic killings and it's a scramble to stop the killer before they finish whatever they're working on. But, she's got help. Stacy is made head of a new Other Realm crime investigation unit of exclusively supernatural crime-fighting experts. Krieg gets himself approved as a consultant, which he freely admits is an excuse to spend time with Stacy. Krieg's unmistakeably genuine care for the victims, willingness to let Stacy fight her own battles (literally), willingness to quit the consultant gig if Stacy asks, and general competence/usefullness make up for the ridiculousness of getting himself hired as a consultant just to spend time with her as she solves murders. The plot is fast-paced and held more than a few surprises. I did guess a couple minor things, but I definately did not predict who did it or the ending. It's very hard to put this book down before the mystery is solved.

Stacy's no-bull directness and Krieg's honesty are a great combination. The way they both care about victims from the case (and justice in general) really rings true. The romance is a very slow burn and I love that the focus is on their budding emotional connection first and foremost. Their romance isn't rushed, but the hold up is not tragic misunderstandings, self-esteem issues, or contrived plot devices meant to delay their relationship progress to build drama. It's simply that they're taking their time, actually getting to know each other, both slow-to-trust, and are busy people that care about other important things in their lives too. The slow development feels very natural for their characters. And it is actually developing, not stagnating. This case stirs up some memories for Stacy, so you get to see some vulnerability from her and sweetness from Krieg. (Don't worry, she doesn't let it interfere with her kick*ss competence.)

The formation of the new unit opens up the cast a bit and gives more of the Other crime-solving/fighting team some development and page-time. I'm really happy to see more of Elivra, another Other Realm inspector from another series in this universe that I've always thought had lots of untapped potential. This story has more of a sense that a lot of capable people contributed to cracking the case and stopping the killer, which is more interesting that 1 cop + sidekick lone-wolfing it. You also get to see Stacy as more of a leader.

You also get to see: more of Stacy + Krieg being kick*ss, Stacy's delightfulling willingness to just go ahead and curse when appropriate, and Loki (Stacy's magical bird roommate) being all-around awesome. Loki actually show a sweet side. He and Stacy are actually really sweet to each other, even though he still calls her pigdog. Nothing says true friendship like a enthusiastic willingness to drop spite-poop on people that wrong your friends. (For Loki anyway.)

The prequel to this series, Frustrated Justice has some backstory (and maybe a clue or two) that relates to the plot of this book. I definately recommend reading it.

There are hints at future plots having to do with Stacy's dad's murder, something going on with Loki, and Stacy's ongoing efforts to take down recurring antagonist Jude Jingo. I can't wait to see where those threads take us in the next book.

This was such a powerful prologue!!! This was a powerful read! My word! My heart was racing from the excellent, vivid and horrifying descriptive prose. Just in the prologue, I felt every single thing Moss did, I felt her hope, her terror, her panic as my own! Ms Harris got my adrenaline pumping madly and then she had me all gooey and melty with the hunky Krieg and then she had me ...yes, this author takes complete charge, of the story, of the narrative, of MY emotions and binds them in an impregnable vice. Her prose is so easy, flowing superbly, yet so evocative. Whatever she describes, leaps out, and grabs hold of me. Ms Harris even had me drooling, big time, over an ogre! Yep, such is her skill, I'm putty in her hands...his hands...her hands... you know what I mean!

I love Stacy so very much, she's refreshing, sharp, tenacious, dedicated, fiercely loyal and strong. Stacy is a sassy no bars hold, Dr Pepper chugging awesomeness. I love how dedicated she is, I love how her conscience won't let up, I love her passion in everything she does, be that her work, her family or Krieg! I had a few skips to my heart, Ms Harris alluded to a huge trauma in Stacy's past and boy, as agonised as I am that anyone could hurt Stacy, I have a burning need to know WHAT transpired. Heather gave her a uniqueness, a titillating thought process and strength of character, morals. A past that was traumatic only fuels her determination to bring justice to those that go outside the lines. And a certain ogre has her knickers in a twist! Hell, he has mine too! My lordie was the banter between Stacy and Krieg incredible! Easy, delightful, comical, warming me from head to toe, I had an idiotic grin on my face whenever these two interacted, and, thankfully, there were loads of it! I'm actually not sure who made me giggle more, Krieg with all his underlying innuendoes, Stacy with all her....ummm... thoughts concerning Krieg, or Loki who never missed an opportunity to snark! Heather's prose is so brilliant, almost every word out of Krieg's mouth has a double meaning. Gads did I chuckle, constantly! I have no idea HOW Heather does it but heck, she gets me all hot and flustered with her leading men! I was literally drooling alongside Stacy, I was ready to pounce on him too! He's not only a sexy hunk of a beast (NO disrespect intended!!!) he's also incredibly respectful, amazingly patient and has the control of a freaking saint! Safe to assume, he stole my heart. I ADORED how Krieg flirted with Stacy! It's so natural. I love how charming and teasing and easy it all is, especially as he's usually this tough stoic king. He is himself with Stacy in the most tender of ways.

Yeah, I'm absolutely, completely and utterly am BESOTTED with Krieg! The nuances to him are subtle and credible, it's easy to see he's one hell of a complex guy. I adore how he is with Stacy, so supportive loving without being overtly so. He never pushes, he's just all in with restraint the strength of Hercules! Krieg had me laughing loads and at the same time he had me salivating, he's the real deal! All of Heather's characters have a special spin on them, even the sleezeballs like Jingo and Gideon, it's a case of "I love to loathe them" Golly did I enjoy that Channing was more prominent in this book, he's come such a long way from his uncertain and over eager beginning.

This author, this very esteemed author, who's talent and prowess captivates every fibre of my being, is one of the few that each time I finish a book of hers, I say "it's her best one to date!" And it is, THIS ONE is her best to date! It's lighthearted, humourous and deadly serious, with a darker tone, gritty and at times gory, all at the same time. She even managed to make opening a can of Dr Pepper SEXY! Boy was that hot!! This book was action packed, this book was soooo tense, this book was hilarious at times and this book almost self combusted with the heat flying off the pages, without a single "thing" happening, Heather had me tugging on my collar....Not only that, the magnificent way she kept the perpetrator just out of reach, was splendidly woven in. I stand by my initial conviction, Heather G Harris IS the master red herring trailer. I can normally pick up the crumbs littered about but not with Heather's books, no siree, she blows the crumbs far and wide and when she drops the bombshell of who it is, my jaw literally drops! This book has so many elements of drama, the tension is amped up one notch at a time, until it's like a throbbing pulse with a life of it's own. This was an incredibly strong and captivating story! With THAT ending, hell, I need more! Urgently!

This might be my favorite series in a multi-series universe. love this

Rating: 5⭐️

I loved Veiled Justice, the first book in this series but feel that this excellent story far exceeds my expectations for the second novel and character development.

Krieg, King of the Orcs and Detective Stacy and her companion caladrius, Loki are back in action in a fantastic new story. Stacy and Krieg are further along in their new relationship. They are getting to know each other, their history as Krieg continues to make himself a part of Stacy’s life, professional and personal.

This is happening, framed around several brutal murders. Each rawly heartbreaking that’s so realistically relayed by the followed investigative scenes to the next of kin.

Writing that shows it doesn’t have to be current fiction or fantasy for losses and brutality to hit hard.

This type of storytelling continues throughout this book.

As all involved, Stacy and her team, race to uncover the killer before another is kidnapped, the suspense is ratcheted up and the tension is heightened.

Towards the end, we see exactly the toll this case has taken on Casey, and a hidden part of her story is partially revealed.

There is also something going on with Loki that’s subtly disturbing. I don’t believe it was part of this storyline. So now I can’t wait for the next book to come.

Harris has a fantastic series here that’s complicated and getting better with each new story.

This might be my favorite series in a multi-series universe.

Highly recommend this and dive into this universe if you’re not familiar with it already. I’ve listed the reading order below.

ARC Provided in exchange for honest review.

This next instalment in Stacy Wise's story arc is another belter - Heather G Harris never puts a step wrong in my opinion! Her urban fantasy is the perfect blend of modern and monsters, and Stacy's story brings in a great police procedural aspect to her tried and trusted formula.

When a Dryad is found dead as a result of drowning - something she was afraid of - Stacy is thrown into a case with seemingly no leads, just the odd hunch. Another two murders happen, and an MO is identified, but dead ends keep turning up. Stacy is then given the lead role in a new taskforce - Unit 13 - and a promotion to boot - and told to solve this case. With Krieg, the Ogre High King, and Loki, her foul mouthed yet faithful Caladrius at her side, can she prevent the fourth murder and see the killer brought to justice?

Stacy is a fierce FMC, intelligent, dedicated to her job, determined to solve her father's cold case, and despite her initial misgivings, is falling head over heels for Krieg. There is a bit more to her story revealed in this instalment - something happened in her past that left her scarred, physically and mentally - and that person is now in Wraithmore, the supernatural prison. I look forward to this plot point developing through the rest of Stacy's books - Harris is masterful at weaving threads slowly throughout her books and bringing them to a crescendo in the finale. Her relationship with Krieg is simmering away slowly, both aware that she is his fated mate, but neither rushing the other. To see both strong characters almost coy is very endearing, showing that love and respect can bring even the most fearsome characters to their knees. Krieg is never far from Stacy's side, despite his allegiances to his Ogre clan, and the bombshell of their romantic link being dropped in a news article at the end of the novel promises trouble in the not-so-distant future.

It would be impossible to review this novel without a special note for Loki, the Caladrius. He is an absolute delight, and brings some exceptional humour to a fairly gritty police procedural novel. He is foul mouthed, likes to poop bomb people, calls Stacy "Pigdog", yet his mistreatment in the past leaves him vulnerable under his bluster, needing to sleep with the lights on, and forming a strong connection with Krieg as well as Stacy. I adore him!

The police aspect of the novel is well written, and being a force that bridges supernatural and common allows for some poetic license with procedure and how justice works. It reads as a crime drama on TV plays out - you don't know who the culprit is until the final 15% of the novel, which is perfect.

Mystic Justice is a winner for me - it takes the Other realm that I absolutely love and adds a crime aspect, proving Heather G Harris has multiple strings to her authorial bow - she absolutely hits the target.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this book!

This second book in this series was yet another fantastic read by one of my favourite authors! The prologue was shocking, emotionally wrecking, fear inducing and set the scene perfectly for what I knew would be an utterly awesome read!

When Detective Inspector Stacy Wise gets called to investigate the death of a dryad, she was definitely not expecting this case to be as complicated or as challenging as it turned out to be. When another body turns up, murdered in even more dire circumstances, Stacy and her team have to pull out all the stops to make sure they catch the killer or killers before another body can turn up. But who is doing all this? Why? And what do those mysterious runes found on each body do? So many questions...very few answers initially.

I just loved the way Stacy and her new team of Unit 13 worked so diligently, so endlessly, so perfectly together with each member using their strengths to try and solve every tiny clue. With Jude Jingo and a bar called Botany appearing to be linked in some way to these murders, will Stacy manage to solve them in time?

Stacy is a great character - full of determination and commitment, courage and independence. There was also a little reveal of something having happened in Stacy's past that I really need to know about as well. Whatever it was, certainly has helped (not sure if that is really the right word though from the hints we got!) to shape Stacy into the awesome person she is now.

I love the budding romance between her and Krieg and despite how she obviously feels about him and how he feels about her, they are taking things slowly. You know this relationship is going to be full on, with them both throwing everything they have at it, but they both want it to work perfectly and to be the best relationship it can be for them both and therefore they're taking the time to get to know one another before jumping straight in! I can't wait for them to jump though!

Loki is another great side character - he is just so hilarious and often says what I am thinking! And it was great to see Amber and Bastion again as well. The ending was a shocker though - I cannot wait to find out what happens with this bit next!

This book was utterly brilliant, so well written that I could hardly put it down. At times, it was a bit gruesome, dark, emotional, romantic, sweet, hilarious, tense and plain nerve wracking. I love a book that can make you feel so many different things all at once. If you love police procedural books with a supernatural twist and a strong female lead, then pick up this series from the beginning. You won't want to put it down!

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author, but this review is my own honest one!

**ARC Reader, all opinions are my own!**

Chief Inspector Stacy Wise is a chief inspector with the Cheshire Constabulary, the police force entrusted with the safety, security, and law enforcement of the ceremonial county of Cheshire in the northwest of England. She works hard, is functionally married to her job, and worries her mother constantly as she does her duty to protect the law-abiding citizens of Cheshire County.

Chief Inspector Wise has a secret, however. She is not just a DI for the Cheshire Constabulary; she is also a crossover CDI for the Connection. In fact, she’s the only one for several counties, meaning that where crimes are committed within the Other, she is literally the only one to call, and call they do. Worked a full shift already? That’s nice. Seeing double from the murder cases you’re actively working on? So what? If it’s Other-related, there’s no other CDI to solve the case.

When a young, talented dryad girl is found brutally murdered, Stacy is brought in to investigate. The murder stinks of necromancy with an elemental twist, and if that’s the case, there may be more bodies piling up before they know it. As things seem to have progressed with the high king of the ogres, the irresistible Robbie Krieg, he assumes a role of “civilian consultant,” intent on helping Wise through the thick of it and to make sure she comes out the other side whole. It seems the possibility of her being his destined mate might not be so far-fetched. With the assistance of her partner, Channing, and a whole host of Other police operatives that fans of HGH will recognize from other series, Wise is on the case!

Continuing the tradition of immediate success that the “Other Detective Series” has garnered so deservingly, “Mystic Justice” transports the reader into the streets of Cheshire County to get to know everyone’s favorite kickass crossover badass, Stacy Wise. “Mystic Justice” serves as the phenomenal sophomore book of the series, and ho-lee-cramoly is it GREAT! A fan-favorite from her supporting character roles in several of The Other Realm series by Heather G. Harris, Stacy now takes the stage in a long-awaited and fully deserved series of her own. Toss in the unparalleled narration of the vastly talented Alyse Gibbs, and the audiobook enthusiast has everything to work with that the ebook reader has, maybe even more! With appearances by characters well-known and yet still mysterious to fans of The Other Realm series, this is the continuation of a series that definitely has me excited for the coming books! 10/10, an absolutely MUST READ! Enjoy!

I received a free copy of this ebook and audiobook and am voluntarily leaving a review.

First of all, I'd like to say that I adore Heather and I've read every series she's released. Unfortunately, however, I didn’t love this one.
I recognize that the author's style is lighter, she doesn't write heavy or overly serious books, and I've always judged her work based on that premise. But since I felt that the first book in this series had a more mature tone (and the prologue of this one reinforced that), I raised my expectations regarding how the story would be constructed.

Overall, I thought it lacked coherence. Stacy is a tough woman who takes her job very seriously, but she quickly accepts her almost-boyfriend's involvement in her homicide investigation (when he has no business being there) and then gets irritated when her boss questions her about it? Krieg's presence is justified as “aid” to the case (I assume because of his political connections), but at no point does he helps significantly (except in the final fight), he's simply there to spend time with Stacy. Worse: she demands professionalism from other characters, but it’s totally acceptable for her boyfriend to be there because they can't align their schedules to spent time together? Sorry, but no. I believe that their romance could’ve been developed in another way

Another point that irritated me: the relationship with Sam. Sam, between this book and the last one, is mentioned several times and it's clear that he hurt Stacy when he ended things. With that, I was thinking it had been a more serious, more relevant relationship, until I read this:

“It stung more than a little to have a month’s worth of canoodling on the couch erased like it had never happened.”

Girl, with all due respect, but the number of times you mention the effects of this breakup is disproportionate to the type of relationship you had. Like, seriously? All of this because of a one-month fling? 🥴

Also, the repeating of how Stacy hasn't had sex in a long time…I get it, you’re horny, but this being said over and over again annoyed me at some point

Anyway, overall I don't think it's a bad book, just sort of lacking for me. In the first one I think even her interactions with her family were better developed…
However, I will continue to read the series and hope I enjoy the next release more

Oh my goodness, this book is just fabulous in every way!

I love all of the Other Universe books and each series is very different, despite over lapping characters. This series brings something new, with the crime procedural process very much to the fore. In this book, the race is on to save lives, as it’s clear there is a plan in place for multiple kills, but there are no clues as to who the murders might be.

Stacy and Robbie are right up there in my favourite couples, as their slow burn romance continues to develop. Robbie may be High King of the Ogres, but he is all in for Stacy and is pretty much perfect, when it comes to life partner goals. One of the things I love about this series, (and all of the others in this universe) is that the author gives us strong female leads, who are matched by strong males that see their strengths and admire them for them. Each of them has a definite urge to protect their mate, but equally understands that they can take care of themselves. There are no damsels in distress here, so move along if that’s what you’re looking for.

I loved that Amber and Bastion play a part in this book, as they are also favourites of mine. They play an important role and Amber once again demonstrates how her kind heart goes alongside her leadership skills and strong character.

The search for the killers keeps you guessing, Stacy and Robbie keep you throughly invested in them and alongside all the action and sadness, there are huge helpings of entertainment and outright laugh out loud moments. Naturally Loki is a shining star in the laughter department, but also tugs on your heartstrings too - he is as adorable as he is funny, and every bit as snarky as Stacy.

As the book develops we are also getting more hints about Stacy’s past and why her character has developed the way it has and I’m looking forward to learning more, as well as yearning to see Stacy and Robbie grow closer as a couple, and knowing more about Loki and his abilities.

Then of course, there is THAT ending, which just stops you short and leaves you shouting, ‘No, you can’t just leave it there!’

When a dryad is drowned and the ME finds runes burned on her bones, Inspector Staci Wise knows dark magic is at play and that there will be more victims if they don't figure this case out in time. But with just her and Channing, they don't have enough time or manpower to get this solved quickly. Luckily, the Connection has decided they need a task force of Connection officers working together and this will be their first case. Now it's a race against the clock to find a black witch who is kidnapping Other Realmers to try to complete a dark ritual.
Staci is still getting used to having a partner after working alone for so long. And not just Channing, but Krieg as well. She is as honest as they come and definitely unapologetic about it. She is slowly learning to delegate and allow others to help her (and by help, I mean do their jobs instead of her taking over). And not only does she need to let Channing learn the job, but now she is in charge of the new unit as well - talk about sink or swim. We also get a glimpse of Satci's past trauma as well - not the whole story but enough to know something bad happened. Krieg is definitely as stubborn as she is and wants to make sure she not only solves the case but takes care of herself as well. And I cannot forget my favorite bird, Loki!! He is just too cute and hilarious for words. I was definitely worried for him in this story and feel like there is more to come from that as well.
This book had some darker moments, and it made the book very suspenseful. It put you right there with the victim and made you feel the terror that they felt. And I loved the twist with the villain, once again you just won't see it coming! Just when you think you know, you're completely wrong! And I loved having Amber make her appearance in this story as well finally getting a case "closed" from a previous Other Realm book. I do still have some questions about Loki and after that ending I can't wait to find out what Jude Jingo brought Staci and to figure out just what his deal is.

This is another fantastic book in the most recent of HGH's superb series. She has never let me down with anything she's penned and in a world with big names, is my only autobuy author. I trust any story she writes to be a satisfying, entertaining read - but I find that I am particularly and absolutely loving the Other Detective stories!

There's the phenomenal relationship between Stacy Wise and Robbie Krieg. The tease of this high tension slow burn is so incredibly enthralling that each baby step they take is a heartstopping moment. I love their honesty and vulnerability together, when it is usually so well concealed from the hard reality of their world - "Alone was a sh1tty place to be. I knew it well."

It was brilliant seeing Amber and Bastion's cameos. They are one of my favourite couples! The author shows her incredible skill with words in a description applied to Amber - "Amber had real ‘sprang from her father’s forehead fully formed’ energy...". Ms Harris builds strong, vivid worlds and fills them with characters who have all the quirks, flaws and personality to be comprehensively real. Spending time with them is always an exciting experience.

As always, the British humour I love is present and can be counted on to lighten dark moments or bring sheer joy.

The mystery arc was wonderfully macabre and superbly crafted. I was in the dark but completely enthralled until the big reveal. Again, kudos to the author for her writing, imagination and ability to pull all her threads together into a perfectly paced, heart racing climax.

I cannot recommend this book, series and author highly enough. She makes every page read a journey into another world.

Mystic Justice, the second book of “The Other Detective” series, was a thrilling read. Paranormal creatures are being murdered under horrific circumstances and the race is on to prevent the bodies from piling up. Inspector Stacy Wise is called upon to untangle the mystery and stop the serial killer from striking again in this non-stop mystery.

I loved Stacy from the moment I met her in the first book, Veiled Justice. Her spunk and intelligence really make her shine as a FMC. Add in hunky Robbie Krieg, High King of the Ogres who has appointed himself Stacy’s protector, and Loki, her wise-cracking magical bird sidekick, and how can you lose? The banter is spectacular, the romantic tension simmering, and the storyline is original and engrossing. This book really has it all!

The “root” of lots of problems in both books is pretty fun, too. Jude Jingo the doppelgänger is a slick mobster who is currently hiding in the forcibly vacated body of a dryad while running an illicit operation out of his grove in the city park. He really adds a lot of color and humor to the book and I loved every time he made an appearance!

The big baddie serial killer and their motivation was surprisingly bittersweet when the whole story was finally revealed. I really felt for what they went through, even though they had a totally twisted plan to fix it. I did not expect a violent and bloody murder mystery to be so poignant. I was almost in tears at the climactic scene.

Heather G. Harris has knocked it out of the park with this story, which is no surprise as all of her books are great reads. I can’t wait for the next book in this series to be released!!

I read a promo copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The opening to DI Stacey Wise's second outing takes the criminal suspense aspect of the series up a few notches. Like so many crime novels, this book starts out with the actual crime, told from the victim's perspective. We know that the victim will die, but we keep hoping that something will change -- and that Stacey only will investigate an attempted murder. Alas, Moss the dryad does die, and Stacey must work on one of the most cold-hearted murders of her career.
Although there still is a major romantic element and the will they/won't they vibe between Stacey and Krieg, the King of the Ogres who believes that she is his fated mate, the actual case takes priority. (That said, Krieg's ability to keep Stacey supplied with Dr. Pepper, her personal nectar of the gods, is admirable.) Wise's supervisor, Detective Superintendent Thackeray, creates Unit 13, a wholly Other police team to take on these cases -- and try to solve them as quickly as possible. In the process, Stacey is promoted to DCI, and one of the detectives she supervises is none other than Elvira Garcia, who has appeared in different Other series. There also are appearances by Amber DeLea and Bastion, already well known to Other books fans, although it's always interesting to see other characters' takes on both DeLea and Bastion. (For anyone who hasn't read the books featuring them, never fear. You'll be introduced to them and understand who they are.)
Will she crack the case? How will she figure it out? Who's behind these supernatural deaths and why? Enjoy reading this novel to find out!

I love all of the Other Universe books, and while each series is very different, Heather always manages to surprise me. Every time I think I could not possibly love a new character more than the last, she proves me wrong. Stacy has now climbed into my top three favorite FMCs that Heather has written.

What I love most about this series is how strongly the crime procedural element comes through, which makes it stand out in the best way. In Mystic Justice, the stakes are higher than ever as it becomes a true race to save lives. The prologue sets the tone perfectly, powerful, chilling, and emotional, and from that moment, I was hooked. The case itself is shocking, heartbreaking, and deeply moving. You cannot help but feel for every character involved, from the dryad to the werewolf.

I also have to say I am loving King Krieg, but Robbie in particular has stolen my heart. His interactions with Stacy’s family and with Loki were such a delight, and together Stacy and Krieg make an incredible pair of characters to follow.

Mystic Justice is brilliantly written, as I have come to expect from Heather, and I could hardly put it down. I especially love when a book makes me feel so many different emotions all at once, and this one delivered that completely.

If you enjoy police procedural stories, strong and complex characters, both female and male, and an urban fantasy setting, The Other Detective is absolutely the series for you.

Packed with action in the Other Realm, Stacy and Robbie's slow burn curling my toes in delight, I was in my own reader's heaven. The build up with the murders with an elemental theme, dark magic runed into the bones, kept me guessing and enthralled with the possible answers till the end. Having Amber and Bastian along with various known characters back in the fold, another winner in my book. The new Other police Unit 13 with Stacy at the helm, promoted to DCI, promises many more intriguing cases ahead. Then I had some good lol moments besides Loki's quips, he is definitely a bird of interest (even Amber was surprise that a caladarius is with Stacy), Elvira giving Krieg the 3rd degree not in awe of he's title. Heather really made me do a 360 degree spin on my original impression of the High King with his birds, who had a contract out on Amber and then she had to compromise by making a mate reveal potion for him. Now the ogre makes you drool with his ever so romantic, protective behavior and his hilarious ambiguous answers. The end came much too soon and left me wondering what is in that document Jingo brought and what's his end game???
I received an advanced review copy and leave this review voluntary Thank you!!

We rejoin Stacy, Loki and Krieg, not long after their last adventure, with Stacy investigating the death of a dryad, that had been discovered by a Grandfather and Grandson who are NOT Other! Luckily there are strategies in place to help with the colliding realms. Unfortunately Krieg's attempts of having a proper date with Stacy, keep getting interrupted with the ongoing investigation.
However Krieg’s small gestures in caring for her wellbeing appear to be helping, especially as the deaths continue. I’ll admit that Krieg is growing on me, (although Emory – The Other Realm/Other Wolf series is still my favourite) the gentlemanly way he conducts himself (as the majority of Heather’s MMC's do) only enhance the small displays of affection he bestows on Stacy when they have the chance to be alone.
Due to the continuing murders, Detective Superintendent Thackeray, puts together a mixed taskforce of investigators and crime specialists, named Unit 13, and Stacy is placed in charge (and promoted) of it.
Can the team work well with each other? Will they catch/hand out justice to the killer or killers? Sorry no spoilers but and read it for yourself very soon!

A compelling blend of urban fantasy and crime thriller with a slow burn romance that is so hot you need a cold shower after reading some of the scenes - and they are still only at the kissing stage!

Unlike other novels that try to blend these genres, usually to the detriment of the crime thriller, this really works. It should be the example for other writers of how to get this right.

This is the latest installment of a great new series in the Other World universe. The whodunnit story is engaging and compelling and the way the detective Stacy works arrives at her final conclusion is gripping. This is all against a backdrop of outstanding character development. I can't remember the last time I read a book where a slow burn romance was handled so well and I was so desperate for the two characters to get together. The supporting characters are all well rounded and the whole book written with what I am coming to appreciate as Heather G Harris' exceptionally vivid, skillfully descriptive and articulately crafted writing style. Cancel your plans, get comfortable and order a takeaway as when you start reading this you won't want to stop! Another must read.

Mystic Justice was another wonderful story by Heather G Harris, who is one of my favorite authors! Detective Stacy Wise has another case, this one begins with a drowned dryad, but soon it’s obvious that there’s a serial killer on the loose. The case quickly becomes a test for Stacy’s new Investigative Unit (no pressure) but you know that Stacy’s up for the challenge!

I adored the second book in Stacy’s series, she’s an amazing character and the mysteries are always well written. I love Robbie and how he’s so patient with Stacy. While he’s definitely an alpha male, he allows her to be her own person and (literally) fight her own battles, but won’t hesitate to step in if needed. All of Heather’s books are well written and this book was no exception. It’s a testament to the author's skill that while the prologue is only four pages long, poor Moss was so well written that I liked her and felt so bad for what happened to her that I almost wanted to skip to the next chapter. I really loved this story and it ended with a tantalizing hook for the book three, which I will be eagerly awaiting!

Book 2 starts out with another grisly whodunnit. But don’t worry, Stacy and her foul-mouthed sidekick, Loki, are on the case. And so is her wannabe love interest, Krieg, apparently. It seems the King of the Ogres doesn’t have anything better to do than to spend all day tagging along in an effort to woo our intrepid Inspector. Eager much?

We start to see their relationship develop in this book, which is fun. More please! We’re also getting some little crumbs about Stacy and Krieg’s respective backstories, which I really hope we get more of in subsequent books, because there’s some serious trauma there. Are there stormy seas ahead for our lovers, or are we going to get our HEA (it better be the latter, Heather!)

I really enjoyed how this book interplays with other series in the Other Realms world, mentioning characters and story lines that have played out elsewhere (don’t worry if you haven’t read any of the other series – that’s not necessary to understand this story) – it shows great worldbuilding from the author.

All-in-all, another great instalment in what is turning out to be one of my favourite series in the Other Realms universe.

Great new series addition in "The Other" world by Harris. One of my favorite authors who shines with world building and imagination. Humor and budding romance as well as strong friendships and teams pull the reader in. The mystery was solid, the investigation kept me guessing and involved, and the pace was strong. Building the new investigative team (Unit 13) is allowing a great new twist that will bring the other characters in even stronger. Also, allowing Wise to show a different side - and even more character growth. I must admit I really like Robbie's character and look forward to more from the relationship. It's developing at a good pace - probably much to slow for some - that is respectful of Stacy's past and her wishes. A bit more about Stacy's past is revealed. I get the feeling it will be pivotal soon. Lastly, something's up with Loki but he said, "all was as it is supposed to be". Not that it's cryptic or anything! Since his breed is rare and little is known, I wonder what wonders will be unveiled there too. Really looking forward to Book 3 in December. Merry Christmas!

AMAZING+++++ SERIERS!!! 😍❤️💕
A love a good detective book and this series is quickly becoming a TRUE FAVORITE of mine. I have read some of this author’s previous books and so I had high expectations. I so am glad to say she did not disappoint. Stacy Wise is a sharp, smart, no-nonsense inspector for the supernatural world that acts all tough in her job, but underneath you can see she really cares for justice for her victims and especially for her family. I love a fierce FMC that is sharp and yet vulnerable at times, which is exactly who Stacy is. I laughed at her interactions with her new “pet” Loki and I cannot wait to see what happens with the Ogre King with whom she is slowly but surely developing feeling for. The case gets solved by the end of this book and now I am anxiously waiting for the third book to come out. Please note, there is a prequel to this book by the name “Frustrated Justice” which is not necessary to read, but that will give you more insight into who Stacy is. Additionally, there is no need to have read the other books from this author related this world in order to enjoy this series. Highly Recommended 😍

Mystery, Magic, and a Whole Lotta Trouble Brewing

Mystic Justice delivers magic, mystery, and a romance worth swooning over.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book was such a ride! The mystery was on point, kept me hooked the whole way through.

Loved all the cameos and Easter eggs - Amber and Bastion showing up was perfect. I can't get enough of The Other Realm.

Jingo's definitely up to something, and I can't wait to see what kind of chaos he brings next.

And let’s talk romance 🔥 Stacey and Krieg are heating up, and I am loving the slow-burn tension. The build-up is chef’s kiss level good, and you just know some obstacle is going to crash in and test them next. Bring it on, I’m ready.

Bottom line: awesome mystery, juicy character arcs, sizzling romance, and just enough breadcrumbs to leave me desperate for the next book.

✔️ Great world building
✔️ Easy-to-read
✔️ Entertaining / Funny
✔️ Original / Witty
✔️ Action-packed / Unpredictable
✔️ Page-turner
✔️ Wonderful characters

'Mystic Justice' returns us to the magical Other Realm with Inspector Stacy Wise. A deceased dryad, twisted, tattered, and tangled in a willow tree, is found drowned in a lake. Stacy is the only supernatural sleuth in Chester, so the case is hers. Krieg, King of the Ogres, smart, sexy, and totally unignorable, escorts her as corpses accumulate, knowing she is his fated mate. Stacy isn't quite sure, though there are definitely sparks! The cadavers all share a common bond, a connection to Botany Bar. Along with her rookie, Channing, Stacy is assigned a new Unit 13 - all assorted Otherworlders. Can she unite the team? Will they collaborate quickly and unearth the evil Elemental who is slaughtering innocent souls? Can she make sense of the simmering attraction to Robbie the man and Krieg the King? Once again, Ms. Harris has transported me to the Other, an enchanting, fascinating, and treacherous world of savage supernaturals, also overflowing with love, tenderness, and found family. 5 Stars!!!!! ***** (arc read)
