The Lincoln Cemetery Chronicles

Rate this book
The Lincoln Cemetery, established in 1926 in Gulfport, Florida, is a historical and cultural landmark. Because Lincoln Cemetery was a segregated cemetery designated for African Americans and other minorities, it has a unique story to tell chronicling the growth and change of St. Petersburg, the turmoil of the Civil Rights Movement, and now the fight to preserve its heritage. Despite its rich past, Lincoln Cemetery has fallen into a state of disrepair. Recent attention about the future of Lincoln Cemetery was the impetus for this body of work to inform a community about the seriousness and complexity of Lincoln's plight. Through an exploration of history, culture, environmental issues, debates, stories, and interviews, Dual Enrollment, AVID and Advanced Placement scholars at neighboring Boca Ciega High School have started the arduous task of bringing Lincoln's past, present, and future to light.
