The Risk of Falling for You: A Billionaire Grumpy Sunshine Slow Burn Romance

Rate this book
He’s a billionaire with secrets.
I’m the nurse who lied to protect him.
Now we’re both in too deep.

Daniel Ashworth is everything I’ve sworn off.
Controlled. Untouchable. The definition of impossible.

But when his father collapsed, I panicked—
and told him Daniel and I were together.

That one little lie spiraled.
And suddenly I’m playing the part of his girlfriend.

At first, it’s just for show.
A few smiles. A convincing backstory.

But then he opens up.
Soft moments slip through his armor.
And I start to fall for the man behind the money.

He’s guarded, yes. But generous.
A quiet protector who carries more weight than he lets on.

The more I learn, the more I care.
Until I uncover the real reason his father wanted me close.
And the truth behind the empire Daniel built from the shadows.

Now I have a choice—
walk away from a lie that became real…
or fight for the man I never meant to love.

Some love stories start with truth. Others—like Lauren and Daniel’s—start with a single, desperate lie that changes everything. The Risk of Falling for You by Della Rose is a heart-clutching, emotional, and irresistibly intimate romance about what happens when pretending becomes real, and love grows in the cracks between secrets and second chances.

Lauren never meant to get tangled up in Daniel Ashworth’s world. As a nurse, she’s trained to stay calm under pressure—but when Daniel’s powerful father collapses, panic takes over. One small lie tumbles out of her mouth: she says she’s Daniel’s girlfriend. It should have ended there… except it doesn’t.

Suddenly, Lauren finds herself wrapped up in Daniel’s orbit—a billionaire with a reputation for control and distance, a man who builds walls taller than his skyscrapers. Their fake relationship is supposed to fool his family, but somewhere between polite smiles and carefully staged dinners, something real begins to burn through the pretense.

Daniel isn’t the cold, impossible man everyone believes him to be. Beneath the sharp suits and quiet command is a heart that’s been bruised by betrayal and burdened by secrets too heavy to share. And Lauren—warm, selfless, stubbornly kind—starts to see the man he hides from the world.

The chemistry between them is breathtaking—slow burn tension that turns tender, then scorching. Every glance feels charged, every touch deliberate. But Della Rose doesn’t just give us a love story; she gives us two people learning how to trust again in a world that’s taught them not to.

When Lauren uncovers the truth behind Daniel’s empire—and the real reason his father wanted her close—the story takes an emotional turn that hits deep. It’s a reminder that love doesn’t come without risk. But sometimes, that risk is exactly what saves you.

⭐ 5 Stars — An emotionally layered, slow-burn fake dating romance that proves the most dangerous thing you can do with your heart… is tell yourself you’re not falling.

If you love fake dating that turns into something soul-deep, billionaires with guarded hearts, and heroines who love fearlessly, The Risk of Falling for You will steal your breath—and maybe your sleep, too.

I love finding new-to-me authors and I wasn’t disappointed with this book by Della Rose. This book centers around Lauren and Daniel. Lauren is one of Charles Ashworth’s nurses and he’s taken a shine to her. Of course, he has ulterior motives, the old curmudgeon. Daniel is the son of Charles. As we read this story, I liked Charles less and less. When Charles has one of his spells, Lauren tells him Daniel and her are seeing each other. I’m not going to leave any spoilers, but I will say Daniel slowly wormed his way into my heart. Grab your copy and see what happens.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary and honest review.

This is a compelling billionaire romance built on a classic fake-dating trope that quickly develops into something more emotional and sincere. The heroine’s initial lie feels understandable, and watching it evolve into a genuine connection creates strong tension throughout the story.

Daniel Ashworth is more than the typical billionaire hero his restraint, generosity, and quiet vulnerability add depth to his character. The pacing allows the romance to unfold naturally, and the underlying family secrets give the story added weight. A satisfying read for fans of contemporary romance with heart and complexity.

Beautiful story that highlights the importance of just choosing to show up and stay. Love appears in many ways, some more quiet than others. Daniel is much different than the controlled, unemotional person he portrays in business and in front of his father. I love how he steps up without hesitation to help his sister and nephew. Lauren is just the perfect person to softly just be there for him.

This is my first book by this author, Della Rose. It won't be my last. I loved how simple and easy she wrote. The characters were well-defined and intelligent, as was the story line. And the warmth between Daniel and Lauren, and also between Daniel and his sister, Emily and her son, Aiden kept me reading. I'd love to read more about them in future books.
