Chise and her companions’ efforts to rehabilitate the former Wasteland of Nothingness have paid off, leaving no need for the barrier the goddess Liriel erected to isolate the region. With bittersweet feelings, the little witch watches it fall, hoping no bad egg will come to stir up trouble in the forest she now calls home.
Meanwhile, north of the forest, the Mubad Empire is in dire straits. The capital is plagued by random street attacks, and the culprit has yet to be found. Even stranger, none of the victims bear any wounds whatsoever, but all of them have been nearly drained of their blood. A secret agent is sent by the imperial authorities to investigate, and the trail leads him to an abandoned mansion. There, he runs into the a woman with silver hair, crimson eyes, and very long, very sharp fangs...
As always a cosy story with entertaining main characters trying to create a better alive for themselves and those around them without being too heavy handed. In this case, they try to improve relationships with neighboring countries by developing and selling a panacea elixir as part of their PR campaign. Of course, creating an all-cure is not easy, and selling it does draw some unexpected attention as well. All in all, I found it an entertaining read that fitted expectations, nothing ground breaking, heavy or intense, but if you were wanting that, how did you get this far into the series?
