Jordy - I’ve had a giant crush on Kieran for as long as I can remember, basically as soon as his mom married my dad and they moved in with us. Even though he's an alpha, he doesn’t look at me like that, or at least that’s what I always thought. Until the night he comes home drunk and kisses me, revealing his true feelings, and promptly forgetting all about it the next morning. When I make it my mission to seduce him while he’s actually sober, I realize he’s holding back for more than just the obvious reason of our blended family. I have to break through his defenses and convince him that we’re perfect for each other before I leave for college, or we’ll both end up completely miserable.

Kieran - It’s my terrible luck in life to end up sharing a bathroom and side-by-side bedrooms with the world’s most perfect omega. Jordy is sweet, smart, and stupidly sexy. And completely untouchable, for someone like me, at least. I’m damaged by my tumultuous childhood, and worry that my biological dad’s dark genes are hiding somewhere inside me, waiting to burst out and hurt the people I love. I care too much about Jordy to put him at risk by giving in to my feelings, even when he starts making it completely obvious that he wants me. But if someone like him believes I’m worthy of being loved, then maybe it’s true. I want to believe him, but can I let go of my past and trust that I could make him happy?

Sugar Rush is a guaranteed HEA dual 1st POV omegaverse romance featuring a broody alpha tattoo artist and a bratty-but-lovable golden boy omega. Grumpy/sunshine, hurt/comfort, size difference, virgin mc, with lots of obsessive pining, tons of jealousy and possessiveness, high spice and fluff.
Content warnings include reference to past abuse (not between mcs), a brief depiction of attempted assault (not between mcs), and past alcoholism of a parent.

Maybe it was wrong to scheme and plot about seducing my stepbrother. But if he wasn’t so damn stubborn, I wouldn’t have to resort to underhanded tactics.

Alpha tattoo artist Kieran is counting down the days until his stepbrother Jordy goes to university. Jordy’s departure will solve a lot of problems for Kieran, whose restraint is in shreds after living in close proximity to his alluring, tempting, maddening omega stepbrother for years. Sharing a bathroom, checking out Jordy’s bubble butt in the short shorts he insists on wearing, and trying desperately to keep his distance has taken its toll on poor Kieran. He’s grouchy, moody, overthinking everything and concentrating on looking out for Jordy while not crossing any lines. But just as the end of Kieran’s torment is in sight, Jordy initiates a ‘Seduce Kieran’ campaign. Will Kieran hold out and stay away from his sunny, snarky stepbrother? Or will he give in and finally make Jordy his?
“You’re so fucking pretty, Jordy…”

Jordy is on a mission to prove to Kieran that they belong together as mates. He knows that Kieran’s holding back due to experiences in his past. But what Jordy doesn’t know is how those experiences affected Kieran’s self-esteem, leaving him feeling like he doesn’t deserve someone smart and ambitious like Jordy. Add in that they’re stepbrothers and Jordy’s got a tough hill to climb. Good thing he’s a former track star- and that he always gets what (and who) he wants.
How bad could I be if someone like Jordy, bright and shiny and perfect, wanted me next to him, forever and always?

The relationship between Kieran and Jordy is very cute - they know each other so well and are super sweet together. Kieran should know that he’s doomed the minute Jordy decides to seduce him 😂. He puts up the best fight he can because he wants the best for Jordy, and it takes him some time to figure out that no one is better for Jordy than him. It was very fun to read how whipped he is. This book is a long one- but it’s like finding a new favourite show and realizing that there’s 8 seasons with a ton of episodes to enjoy. Sugar Rush is a comforting, low angst read about 2 stepbrothers who belong together. True to character, it takes Kieran a LOT longer to realize it, but his care for Jordy really shines through the entire book.

Rating: 5
Angst: 2.5/5
Steam: 3/5

I received an advance copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review. I was also lucky enough to beta read this one 💜

Picture your 18 year old omega stepbrother following you around like a poltergeist saying 'Dude, dude, just fuck me already. You know you want to. I want to. There's no reason we shouldn't. Our parents will just have to understand. It's beyond us, really.'

That's Jordy. Been holding off on his massive crush on his stepbrother for years and then one night, a drunken Kieran let's it slip that he feels the same way and boom. The Haunting of Kieran begins.

As if it's not enough that his omega scent already drives Kieran mad, Jordy's plotting on that man like a seasoned war general.

A certified menace. But like, the kind of menace Kieran wants to bend over his truck and knot for days.

Jordy's a delight.

That's it. That's the description. He reminds me so much of those Alice Winters MCs whose sole purpose in life is to push their men over the edge and into insanity. He's a younger Leland.

Says the most ridiculous stuff. Designed to drive Kieran mad. And Kieran IS running mad, but he's going willingly.

Lying there thinking, yep, this guy will be the death of me but what a way to go.

Kieran kept running until even I was sick of the excuses. Like so what? He's your stepbrother, we know but so what? Just give that man what you both want and put ME out of my misery.

And then....

“If it doesn’t work… Promise me you won’t go looking for him.”

I was majorly meh on Kieran until this moment.

THIS is why I read romance. Ask for unhinged stuff that someone shouldn't ask someone they claim to love but love them so much they can't help BUT ask.

The whole I'm your step brother, I have anger issues schtick was NOT working for me, let me tell you, but THIS?

This I can get behind. This I can fully support.

So here lie(here sits, really, because these two dumb fucks are sitted in a PUBLIC PARK) two step brothers, blithely discussing a mating bite(at 18 and 21) after agreeing that they want it so badly that if they do it and it doesn't take, the omega simply won't leave this alpha to go looking for his actual alpha.

Dumb AF but happy AF.

Can't help but support them.

No idea how they'll explain it to their parents when they get home later but hey, better to ask forgiveness, right?

😂💀

“Kieran, I’d let you mark me in an alley next to a pile of syringes and crack pipes,”

A sweet(?) reassurance uttered as they were in the middle of some Light Crime™ so there's side plot for those of you who dabble in that for reasons unbeknownst to me.

Unrelated. I have come across this 'leaves wet towels on the floor' phenomenon a LOT in books and I really need to know what TF is up with that. IS THIS A THING THAT ACTUAL HUMAN BEINGS ARE DOING?

And it's always mentioned with fond exasperation like haha, see how quirky this person is, sometimes they do this weirdly disgusting thing and all I can think is NO. No haha.

On the BATHROOM floor? Any floor, really, but the BATHROOM FLOOR?

Petition to go back to simpler times when people hid these shameful family secrets.

Anyway, I ended up liking this one more than I thought I would, even though Jordy did a LOT of heavy lifting in the first half.

I also liked that we got an actual epilogue. Six years later. Not this two weeks later business I've been seeing lately.

I have to say it was refreshing to read omegaverse where their whole lives don't seem dominated by the A/B/O dynamics.

It's like a normal contemporary romance (except that your stepbrother gets slick and locks in on you like Napoleon Bonaparte on England) but you still have to go to your day job and he still has to go to college.

A strong 4-4.5 but it was way too long for me!!

I am loving everything this author has written so far. I can’t wait for more.

I was absolutely loving this book at the beginning. The mutual obsession always does it for me. I just hated that Kieran pushed Jordy away for so much of the book while simultaneously being so infatuated and in love with him. He pushed him away rudely over and over again. It made it worse by Jordy always throwing himself at Kieran. I wanted him to be like fine you don’t want me then I’ll back off and then have Kieran realize what a mistake it was to push him away. I get that the purpose of Jordy going full force was to make Kieran realize how much he wanted to be with him but it got frustrating after a while watching him pushing Jordy away again and again.

I did like how possessive he was though. The jealous scenes will make any book better and his internal dialogue somewhat made up for him pushing Jordy away because we see how much he yearns for him. Which leads into the OM drama because Kieran doesn’t want Jordy around any alpha but him and there’s a lot of alphas that like sweet little Jordy. But he’s not interested, he’s only ever wanted Kieran.

I did find that Kieran not recognizing that Jordy was his mate was unrealistic. I mean he’s old enough to know the signs and I thought it was weird that he didn’t immediately sense it. I get that he was trying to tell himself it couldn’t be possible but I was like come on already!!

They were cute together though and their sex scenes were great!! I was a little bummed that they had a 6 year long distance relationship. I kind of wish that went a little differently especially since they were newly mated and then had to be away from each other for so long only seeing each other some weekends. I didn’t really like that. But the epilogue where they get engaged helped a little.

Can’t wait to see what else this series has in store!

No cheating
Om (only because Jordy is irresistible and Kieran hates it lol)

Soft dnf at 39%. Idk if the ennui has got its hooks in me or what but I am STRUGGLING. I find it hard to read books where one MC fights it so hard. If someone rejected me as often as Kieran rejects Jordy I would have a complex, a therapist, and a strong desire to go out and find a man who cares. Jordy has god tier self esteem to get through this shit but I don’t have the bandwidth right now.

Stepbrothers, omegaverse, size difference, grumpy/sunshine, fated mates

This was a very cute book. If you love a book that *heavily* embraces the size difference, cute sunshine tiny omega and big broody grumpy alpha, you should add this to your TBR.

Jordy and Kieran have been stepbrothers since Jordy was 12 and Kieran was 15. Jordy has been wildly in love with Kieran the entire time, but kept it hidden because he thought he stood no chance. Then when he's 18, Kieran comes home drunk one night and his true feelings come out. Now Jordy knows he stands a chance. So he ramps up his seduction to 1000 and lays it on thick with Kieran. No mercy. Well, Kieran is resistant because he thinks Jordy is a perfect delicate little angel and all Kieran will do is destroy him with his violence and darkness. Jordy knows they're fated mates and knows no matter what, Kieran will always take care of him and protect him. And throughout the book, he is finally able to convince Kieran of that, too.

Added bonus, while it doesn't come out and say it...Kieran thinks terrible things about himself constantly. So how do you feel about a big broody alpha with a bit of praise kink (but only when it's coming from his omega, Jordy)? The way Kieran melts for Jordy's praise and attention is so adorable. He's just a big marshmallow.

Jordy is a brat:
That was something he said to me a lot. You’re testing my patience, Jordy. But testing Kieran’s patience was one of my favorite things. It was so incredibly testable.

Jordy is 100% on board:
“Jordy, we shouldn’t be doing this,” I said, but couldn’t make a move to push him off. “I know that’s what you think,” he responded quietly, but only tightened his hold around me. “You’re just wrong. I don’t know what else to say.”

Jordy's a little tired of the attitudes around him:
Why did all the important men in my life imagine me as some helpless frolicking prince just waiting to be thrown into a burlap sack and held in a villain’s castle for ransom?

Poor sweet, broody Kieran just gets overwhelmed with Jordy's affection:
But the idea that even just for a moment, even if it was just to make things easier on him, I’d been referred to as Jordy Nolan’s boyfriend… It felt like being pelted with the world’s most shameless and enthusiastic praise, like it was the most noteworthy thing anyone could ever know me for.

This book just reestablished why I love omegaverse books so much. I love a broody artistic alpha that's possessive and worships the ground his omega walks on. And I love a sassy determined omega who soothes his alpha's insecurities and demons. Add in them being step brothers hiding their love and attraction from each other and I'm sold. Jordy and Kieran had me hot, swoony, teary eyed and they made me laugh. Both have been hiding their feelings from each other for a long time but being as they met when Jordy's dad married Kieran's mom when they were 12 and 15 and it's understandable why the waters can seem murky and since neither thought anything would ever happen they stay close and are friends who know each other more than anyone. That is until one night when Kieran gets drunk and let's enough of his inner thoughts slip and has impromptu sexy times with Jordy before he promptly passes out and doesn't remember anything the next morning. But he doesn't have to because now that Jordy knows that his feelings aren't wholly unrequited he's determined to show Kieran how good they can be together before he goes off to college and he devises a plan to seduce his stepbrother and make him see the light. Except he knew Kieran would be stubborn and he proves that by fighting Jordy every step of the way. But there comes a point when you can't fight fate and that they can get through any obstacles, demons, insecurities and awkward confessions as long as they do it together. I absolutely loved their dynamic and fell in love with both men and their love story. I flew through this book and was so sad to see it end but my heart is full for having got to read this book and their journey of navigating love and their present and future. This author definitely put themselves on the map for me and I can't wait to read more of their books.

This book was an absolute delight to read!! Kieran and Jordy were so freaking cute together, I was squealing and excited every time they nudged their relationship a little bit closer. Kieran is the broody, ultra tsundere and Jordy is the cute, fiendish brat, and their dynamic was so fun. But also such a dynamic leads to quite a bit of angst, especially in the beginning!

These two are stepbrothers, which I loved how they were constantly around each other and knew each other so well. Kieran has a traumatic past too, which influences in how he tries to protect Jordy from himself. I loved Kieran especially!! Though I also felt bad for him, getting inside his head, when he has so much self loathing and thinking he'd never be good enough for Jordy. There was such a push-and-pull every time Jordy tried to get Kieran to admit his feelings, and I kept waiting for that moment when they could truly accept and be together! Though such a thing happens gradually throughout the whole book - and you just have to read it to see what I mean. Kieran's feelings are very complex, and it takes an expert like Jordy to get him to untangle those feelings, knot by knot (lmao pun intended).

The omegaverse aspects of this book were neat too, and that's coming from someone who doesn't usually read omegaverse! I enjoy Lambert's world building with distinct omega scents, how one can tell who their fated mate is when the puzzle pieces line up, and how alphas and omegas mate for life. Not to mention all the other things like biting their neck to mate, I especially loved that~!

All in all this was a fantastic read, and a big book too! Every scene was absolutely needed and I enjoyed spending so much time with these characters. Looking forward to reading more of Lambert's writing! 💖💕

Thank you so much GRR for the arc!

I shamelessly signed up for this book when I heard two tropes:
Omegaverse and step siblings 🫣

This book follows two step brothers:
Kieran (an alpha), he's broody and a tattoo artist with lots of past trauma. He doesn't feel like he deserves anything nice, because he ends up ruining it.

Jordy (an omega) a ray of sunshine, who just got an amazing scholarship to a prestigious university.
He's smart, he's cute and he has type 1 diabetes (woo rep!)

Kieran is older, and he's fought hard to get where he is in terms of a career, but he's determined to stay away from his stepbrother.

Not because he hates him, but because his self control is close to snapping. Telling him to give in.

He just has to make it through the summer, and then Jordy will be far away.
Jordy could then have a better future and a mate that would truly be worthy of him.

However, Jordy has different plans.
He's a brat, and a tease, wanting to push the boundaries and see how far he can get.
He knows that Kieran has a thick, icy, outer layer that can be chipped away.
Kieran has never been able to say no to him.

These two have the best banter, I swear.
Kieran has been hurt so badly in the past, he's convinced himself that he doesn't deserve nice things, or to be happy.

Jordi is more than willing to show just how wrong Kieran is, he deserves happiness.

Wow, I liked this one way more than I thought I would. It has some fairly traditional, non-shifter romance combined with stepbrother. There weren't really any surprises, but it was still a fun and engaging read. I really like this author and hope they write more!

⭐⭐⭐⭐.25
🔥🔥🔥🔥

Structure: Dual POV, 1st person, past tense.

This was a surprising reading for me! It was the first book from the author I've read and what a delight it was! The writing flows really well and I could see how careful they were with building the characters. They had really nice developments and were so lovable. I usually get annoyed with brats who are as spoiled as Jordy, but he was actually a sweetheart. I laughed a lot at him and his attempts at catching Kieran's attention. He's a little gremlin who'd drive Kieran crazy, poor thing (not that Kieran didn't benefit from it in the end, of course LOL).

The way they navigated their relationship felt natural, and the world created around the ABO universe was well-explained and interesting, especially the mates details. I loved most secondary characters as well, like their parents, Dani and Barbie. The attraction Kieran and Jordan felt towards each other was very intense and dripped off every single page. The sex scenes were on point and refreshing in the sense that some were a bit of an unpredictable context. It was hard to make Kieran let go, but when he did... boy oh boy! It was pure fire!

There were only two things that felt a bit off for me. The first was the transition between some scenes and small time-skips. It wasn't all of them, not even most of them, but some felt a bit abrupt and made me wanna know more about the time that had passed. But it was nothing that harmed the story and its flow. The second was more of a bittersweet thing; not one I disliked properly, but that maybe I wished had been done as it seemed planned to, But the author's choice wasn't actually disappointing. Also, I wish we'd seen

Overall, this is a very sweet, light-hearted romance with more depth to the characters (especially Kieran) than I expected. If you like omegaverse, fated-mates, stepbrothers and friends-to-lovers, I definitely recommend this one. I don't think you'll regret it. I know I didn't ❤️

Sugar Rush - L.A. Lambert
4.5/5

* SPOILERS *

I love me a good MM omegaverse and this one hit all the spots. This is my first book that I’ve read by this author and I now need to read the other omegaverse book that they have because this was just so good.

Jordy and Kieran are stepbrothers. Jordy is an omega and Kieran is an alpha that can’t help but get addicted to his sweet candy scent. Jordy is so determined to show Kieran that they are meant to be together.

There is a little bit of angst where there is a crazy alpha. I knew there was something about him and I’m so glad that Kieran put him in his place. Don’t touch what is his.

I was so glad when Kieran finally decided to stop trying to fight the attraction between the two. When the charity happened, they whole scene from letting him go and then getting it through his head from a talk with Barbie, I was dancing in my seat because I knew stuff was going to down.

I loved the conversation between Chester and Kieran because that whole scene was so sweet. When he told Kieran he wanted someone like him for his son, I was swooning so hard.

And the ending had me laughing in the epilogue. As cute as it was with Kieran, Jordy had me laughing with his stubbornness or his impatient way. It wouldn’t be an amazing book without Jordy and his reactions.

The found family from the friends and the parents was everything I could want and then some.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Review:
I loveeeeeee this book! Kieran and Jordy are just soooo sweet together🥰Jordy had a crush and a plan and Kieran didn't stand a chance. Kieran was in denial for such a long time and he really didn't think highly of himself, but I love how it al worked out. This was just the sweetest and one of the best books I've read in a while. It also made me wanna read so much more omegaverse, but I haven't quite found an omegaverse book that's as good as this one.

Tropes:
🪽Omegaverse (non-shifter)
🍬Stepbrothers
🪽Grumpy/sunshine
🍬Hurt/comfort
🪽Virgin MMC
Bratty omega

Favorite quotes:
💕''Pretty angel. And you smell so sweet. You have no f*cking idea.''

🥰It seemed like as soon as he could tell I was upset, he shifted into this perfect little comforting presence to calm me down, even if it was just for a second.

''Was it good for you?''
''If I say no, will you feel honor bound to prove me wrong by doing it some more?''
He snorted. ''Maybe.''
''In that case, I've had better.''
''I know for a fact that's a lie.''

P.S. I received an ARC, but this is my honest opinion. Thank you to GRR for the ARC. I loved reading this!

This book was angsty and so fulfilling to read.

We get an omegaverse setting with Kieran, the alpha stepbrother, and Jordy, the younger omega stepbrother on one heck of a mission to make Kieran his.

We deal with Kieran who is our grump and is afraid of the consequences of being with Jordy the sunshine when he is supposed to protect the little omega not bed him. But primal instincts always wins.

These two put us through a lot of pining and pushes and pulls but it never gets boring! You can feel, relate and almost taste the emotions that run wild here. The tension, especially, was to die for.

Be prepared for: size difference, grump/sunshine dynamics, knotting, fated mates, obsession, possessiveness, a seductive omega, a broody alpha who is secretly a marshmallow and SO much more

This was fun. The push and pull between these two main characters was very good. Jordy is a menace in the best way. He has his heart set on Kieran and he’s not going to let anything get in the way of him and his goal.

Kieran’s past is a little more angsty than I had anticipated, and it held him back from pursuing the one thing he wants above all else. But he didn’t stand a chance against Jordy’s perseverance, and in the end, they become the cutest couple.

It was nice to get a real epilogue with real time passing rather than this one month later stuff where nothing really changed. Their ending was super sweet, and I was happy for Kieran that he managed to blindside Jordy for a change.

Really cute.

Sugar Rush by L.A. Lambert was a sweet omegaverse story about stepbrothers Kieran and Jordy. I loved how fleshed out the characters were and you could tell they really cared about each other. Jordy was such a funny character, and man did Kieran love him. Kieran, however, really spoke to me. He was determined to fight his feelings and was definitely an atypical alpha (in a good way). He cared more about Jordy than himself. He was willing to put aside his own needs and feelings to make sure Jordy had everything. There were times I wanted him to admit how he felt, but I understood his reasons. I really enjoyed this one and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys omegaverse and stepbrothers.

Someone bring me something to bring down this Sugar Rush!

Jordy is a sweet, determined omega with a bit of a bratty streak. Resilient and giving to a fault. I just want to wrap him up and be best friends with him forever!

Keiran is a tough, stubborn alpha with a touch of the broken trauma vibes and must be adored and protected at all costs!

This book is perfectly paced, I was laughing at Jordy's plotting and dying while Keiran tried to keep himself together during them.

This book is an absolute delight, LA Lambert delivers again in Omegaverse. I'll just be over here sobbing that it's over now if anyone needs me.

“My stepbrother was actually trying to fucking seduce me.”

I LOVED Sugar Rush

Sugar Rush is a stepbrothers forbidden romance in an omegaverse (No heats or mpreg in this book) just a grumpy x sunshine mix of pinning and an ass obsession. Seriously… Kieran can wax poetry about Jordys ass all day long, that man is obsessed! I love it.

Jordy is an absolute BRAT with all caps and he will let nothing stand in the day of getting what he wants- even if that’s his step brothers &.

I also loved the disability/diabetes representation in this book and how it was both informative but felt casual, showing the everyday aspect of living with a chronic condition.

I will be binge reading the rest of this authors work once I catch up on all my arc reads and I can’t wait.

I really enjoyed this book! Jordy and Kieran are stepbrothers who have feelings for each other. Jordy is an adorable Omega who is used to getting what he wants, and he wants Kieran. Kieran is an Alpha who also wants Jordy, but is afraid to be with him because of something that happened with his father.

They were so cute together, and I loved their banter. Jordy’s dad and Kieran’s mom are great parents and very supportive. It was a low angst, quick read and I would definitely recommend it. I received a copy of this book from GRR and this is my honest opinion.

When he's drunk, alpha Kieran hooks up with his younger omega stepbrother Jordy who has crushed on him since their folks married. The next day, he doesn't remember but Jordy does. That gives Jordy all the incentive he needs to actively pursue Kieran who tries to be all noble and push him away. This is the kind of story I adore - the possessive obsession that is denied. It's hot and steamy in just the right amount though Kieran tries to hold out for what seems like forever! An enjoyable read. I received a copy of this through GRR and this is my voluntary opinion.

Jordy discovers that Keiran does really like him, and the scheming begins. Keiran is very much a tortured soul, and there is a lot of pining and doughting. Jordy is such a sunshine, though, that he brings the good in Keiran and also makes him realise that they belong together. It has drama a bit of angst, and definitely smexiness.
tropes:
Grump/sunshine
touch him and .... vibes
fated mates

Ever wish your favorite step brother romance was an omegaverse? Because same. And then L.A. Lambert delivered and its so delicious that you devour it quickly and ask for seconds. I LOVED Kieran and Jordy and I just loved that Jordy was the driving force, refusing to settle for the meek weakly omega stereotype. Watching the bottom be the pursuer was such a joy. Sugar Rush blends hurt/comfort in really well with fluff and comedy and I loved everything about this book. Perfection.

Also, Chester is such a GREEN FLAG DAD!!!!

this is it

This is the kind of book I’ve been looking for. There’s enough smut and enough depth to each character that really wants you to read more. I didn’t like Kieran in the beginning but as you read more of his story you can understand why he is the way he is. I love Jordy he’s so cute. I need more books like this.

This story was a 4.5 for me.

Overall I enjoyed this book and it definitely had a lot one sided angst because of Kieran. For a major part of this book I was frustrated with Kieran pushing Jordy away. Jordy was single minded because once he knew Kieran liked him he wasn’t going to stop until he got him. I’m also glad that we got a well rounded epilogue that skips to 6 years later.

Thanks to GRR for the ARC copy.

Kieran and Jordy are sweet alpha and omega stepbrothers. I loved Jordy's feisty determination to win Kieran over. Despite Kieran having a lot of concerns due to his past, Jordy obviously wins him over. They are adorable together, and I really enjoyed the epilogue.

I adored this story and the characters. omegaverse is quickly becoming one of my favorite tropes. I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

This had some Alice Winters vibe to me - which I mean as a compliment! Jordy is hilariously persistent and single-minded, but also confident and smart. Kieran is broody and moody, maybe a little growly and possessive too. It was a fun read, and they definitely read their age (early, early, adulthood). Definitely some laugh out loud moments though!

A delightful if predictable entry in the author’s new omegaverse offerings. This is a stand-alone forbidden romance featuring young stepbrothers (one graduating high school, one a few years older who did not attend college but works full-time) who turn out to be (yesss!) fated mates. I love fated mates!

It does start slow, and while I enjoyed it throughout, I was able to put it down a few times in the first half to read other things. However, it picked up through the middle and end, and I was enchanted by joyful omega Jordy and his obsession with, loyalty to, and love for his stepbrother, brooding alpha Kieran. Turns out Kieran was also holding a bit of a torch, but never once ever thought or expected anything to happen, due to his supposed unworthiness as a tattoo artist without a college degree and the slightly forbidden element of their legal relationship as stepbrothers.

Silly boy!

Jordy sees his chance when Kieran stumbles home wasted one night after a party mumbling about how much he wants Jordy but must resist him.

Resist no more! Jordy grabs that alpha by the horn, ha ha, and ignites a fire Kieran is hard-pressed to later deny. It evolves into clandestine encounters and burgeoning emotions and a wildfire secret affair for the two of them, including lovely intimacy and stolen moments away from home and town during the summer before Jordy’s first year of college.

Kieran continues to feel reluctant about “seducing” his stepbrother, and fearful that they can’t have a future, but Jordy knows something Kieran doesn’t seem to be aware of. Because Kieren can scent Jordy through Jordy’s pheromone blockers, and the only person who should be able to do that is…yep. You guessed it! His mate.

The explosions of passion, the special tattoo (awwwww!) the possessive-obsessiveness of the mate pull, the eventual claiming bite…ah, I drank it all up and asked for more.

Jordy does have type 1 diabetes and manages it well, and I had some smiles at his dad monitoring his blood sugar here and there. It comes into play as part of the finale. Jordy and Kieran both still live with their parents, who are lovely and add a nice complication to the mix--Jordy's dad married Kieran's mom. Kieran and his mom have a rough past of abuse with Kieran's late father, which adds internal conflict for Kieran.

There is OM drama with a sleazy acquaintance of Jordy’s, and that all comes to a head after Jordy must participate in a bachelor auction he agreed to before he and Kieran ever got together (ha ha ha oh poor Kieran, I was in stitches!). It leads to some violence and injuries, mind the CWs.

But these two are meant to be and are so sweet together. I wound up loving their romance a lot! I hope the author continues with more omegaverse stories. And their romantasies too! Equally delightful.

The only thing that bugged me was Jordy being a virgin and Kieran…not, though, thank goodness, absolutely no previous partners are mentioned or shown on page for him. Still…he’s living with his actual mate…wish he hadn’t been able to be with anyone either. But at least previous partners aren't dwelled on at all in the story, they're so unimportant.

HEA, fated mates, high school and slightly older stepbrothers, virgin omega seduces reluctant alpha. NO others in the timeline of the book, safe for me. OM drama and attempted SA, uninvited, leading to violence but happy outcome for our couple. Includes adorable epilogue. Recommended!

SUGAR RUSH is set in an A/B/O world that reads like a contemporary in many ways. Jordy and Kieran are stepbrothers. Kieran (alpha) is a tattoo artist, well on his way to being a success, while Jordy (omega) is about set to go to college with his best friend, Dani. Jordy has crushed on Kieran for a long time - years, in fact - but doesn't think anything will come of it, UNTIL one night when Kieran gets sh!t-faced and blurts out the truth to Jordy before falling asleep. He doesn't remember what he said or did the night before, but Jordy certainly does, and he plans ways to annoy, irritate, and generally get under the skin of Kieran before Kieran submits to Jordy's will.

This was a high-angst read, with plenty of toing and froing from Kieran. And, to be honest, I can't blame the guy. He didn't have the easiest childhood, and is now worried about how it would be seen by those he loves. He doesn't want to lose their love, even if he does gain Jordy's.

I loved how Jordy and Kieran balanced each other out. Jordy needed every single drop of brattiness, some could say resilience, when dealing with Kieran. And Kieran is all growly possessiveness. Yum!

I won't say anymore for fear of spoilers, but I will say this was an excellent read, and the first by this author I have read. Definitely recommended by me.
