The fae royalty think I’m their toy. Their entertainment. But I’m the only thing standing between their glittering world and the darkness waiting to consume mine.
To buy us time, Tarian enters me into the court games—a bloodsport for the bored and cruel. No allies. No protection. Just monsters wearing crowns and smiling as they watch me fall.
My odds of survival? Slim.
My resolve? Unbreakable.
They’ve always underestimated me. I exist in the shadows. I thrive there. And when they push me too far… they’ll learn exactly what kind of carnage a cornered human can unleash.
The explosive conclusion to the Shadowbound Fae duet.

This was a fast paced, slow burn, witty and banter filled romantasy that I am simply obsessed with. The MCs were intoxicating. I loved them from the start. I loved the journey they went on, their chemistry was palpable. the MMC is so sarcastic and funny and the FMC is so unhinged I just ate this up
Diamond Dust by K.F. Breene was the perfect ending to Daisy and Tarian’s story. Viciously chaotic, kick-your-feet adventure from start to epilogue (I love a good epilogue). Their connection only deepens as they navigate the fae courts together, sharp, vicious, and perfectly matched. This is a fast-paced romantasy packed with wit, banter, and chemistry you can feel (Chapter 18 was everything). Daisy’s unhinged inner monologue had me cracking up, the worldbuilding expands in fun, clever ways, and the ensemble cast finale was exactly what it needed to be—because there is no Daisy without her family or Tarian without his Fallen. The addition of the human world fashion choices added so much humor and a modern day twist to the already hilarious dialogue. Sarcastic MMC. Unhinged FMC. Palpable chemistry. Found family. Fae chaos. I’m obsessed with this series.
Just finished the epilogue and I’m that warm “kick your feet” state of joy!
This conclusion to Daisy and Tarian’s story was perfect. I loved how their connection grew as they navigated the fae court together and how their viciousness complimented each other.
My boy Tarian fell so hard for her and I ate it up! “I haven’t known much of heaven in my life, but lying here with you, feeling the closeness of your flesh, it was worth the deal I made.”
The expanding of the fae realm also made for some cool world building and fun banter around fashion choices and space for Daisy’s signature snark. Having others hear her internal monologue had me cackling.
And, of course, the ensemble cast finale was just what I’d hoped for in keeping this solidly Daisy’s story, but remembering there is no Daisy without her family.
“You’ve been initiated into the trouble maker clan. make your own rules!”
I was gifted an ARC of this book, how lucky was I?! In Book 1 we learned that the chalice is actually, Chalice, and Daisy is the Chalice. She can amplify Tarian’s magic, but to do so will kill her because no human can handle the power that will run through her body.
In Book 2 we find out if she fulfills her destiny as the Chalice. We also get more of the yummy banter between Daisy and Tarian; what do you do when your chemistry is out of this world, but one of you needs to kill the other to save your lands? It’s cute watching them try and resist each other. There’s also a lot of humor is this book, especially between Tarian not understanding human meanings or what humans need. I lol’d multiple times.
More of Tarian’s backstory in this book, and a better understanding of why he has become the way he has.
And if you thought Daisy’s family was just going to take her abduction sitting down, well you would be wrong. Of course they’re gonna try and get their girl back!
The spice is a nice addition, but not overwhelming, and there’s a little twist with that too. I wasn’t sure how things were going to turn out; I did cry a little at the end.
My only complaint is that I wish it were longer; I feel like there could have been a little more meat to our story. But it’s a solidly good story, with a strong FMC, and an FMC that is not how he first appears.
I had to edit this review to add that I think one of the best things that I’ve ever read in any romantasy books happened when Daisy called Tarian, “bro.” it was so real, and I just fucking loved it!
I couldn’t wait for this book to be over. Honestly, it felt like I should have reread the first book beforehand—except I didn’t actually miss anything. The problem wasn’t my memory; it was the way this book was written.
The story starts by throwing an overwhelming amount of random information at the reader, as if we’re already supposed to know exactly what’s going on. Instead of briefly summarizing key events from the first book, the author simply glosses over them with lines like “they tell them what happened,” which feels lazy and confusing. A short recap would have gone a long way.
On top of that, there are far too many unnecessary POVs. It felt like the author ran out of meaningful story for the main characters and padded the book with filler from side characters that didn’t add much to the plot. Rather than expanding the world in an engaging way, the constant info dumps and perspective shifts just made the story feel scattered and hard to enjoy.
Overall, this book was frustrating and disappointing, especially as a follow-up. Instead of building on the first installment, it felt rushed, unfocused, and bloated with unnecessary content.
I got both books as an ARC reading from the author ,and i have to write my honest opinion about this . First the things that I ddint liked about this book was the multiple povs i thought they where unnecessary and made the story confusing. As i said for the first book i wasnt a fan of the modern world combined with the Fairie relm, the switch between the two worlds was quite confusing. I have to say I had a few moments when i wanted to stop reading as the story got to confusing.
Now ,even though I said it was confusing on some parts ,i have to say this was a very nice read. The story was very good and i got emotionaly connected to the characters. this gave me acotar, Quicksilver and a touch of darkness, vibes . We have Fae , Humans ,Gods and demigods. Enemies to lovers with interest ,and love sacrifices. The story between Tarian and Daisy got more intense and emotional . If you liked Acotar and Quicksilver ,definitely grab this series as Tarian gives Rhysand and Kingfisher vibes. 🤍
You can find this review of Diamond Dust—along with some of my favourite quotes—on my blog, Heart's Content!
A big shout out and thank you to the author for providing me with a complimentary copy of Diamond Dust in exchange for an honest review!
There’s always been something about a K.F. Breene book that feels like visiting an old friend. There are always elements in it that are recurring themes—be it the humour, the found family, the love or the focus on plot—that are like catnip to readers. Diamond Dust is no different.
Diamond Dust picks up right after where Obsidian leaves us—aka, after a huge plot/world revelation. The scene starts with and maintains the emotional high that book one left us with and holds this tenor nearly through most of the book. I will always credit Breene’s writing above all else, because that is what brings every moment to life, even scene together and every character close to our hearts. Daisy is still my favourite character-perspective to read and I was constantly happy whenever I turned the page to her thoughts and forever pleased to stay there. Despite my understanding the requirement for and the purpose of the intermittent shifts in perspectives to bring the multiple threads together, I longed for Daisy’s perspective the most. Selling a narrator to the reader is always the most important aspect of a book and Breene always achieves success in that in all the books of hers I’ve read so far.
I will also say—as another credit to her writing—that about twenty percent into the book, I constantly wondered how Breene was going to pull all the threads together and wrap them up in this book. I was pleased to see that she did! While I enjoy long series (I mean who doesn’t?), there is great power to be given and had in a concise story as well! I loved understanding that Breene knows what each of her stories need, both in length and depth, and aways delivers them accordingly.
The plot of Diamond Dust, of this whole spin-of duet actually, is revealed wholly only towards the end of book one. DD just takes it two notches higher; and with more understanding, comes higher stakes. The book becomes darker, more painful and a little more hopeful too. I felt there were some shades of the Deliciously Dark Fairytales in this—but I will agree since I haven’t read the origin series of this spin-off, I’m not sure how much it reflects of that—that for a minute it drew me back to those moments I first read and fell for Breene’s writing. With regard to plot, Breene has always excelled at pulling threads from all directions and making the perfect tapestries that are beautiful to look at and fun to invest in. *wink*
The world does build more seriously in this book. There are several more magical elements added to the story through the course of this book and you see an expansion of the MMC’s world paired with heartwarming moments from the FMC’s. It can sometimes feel a little complex when newer revelations are made, so do keep an eye out for the details the author adds to the characters’ magic and the rules of their world, to not miss experiencing the high points in the book.
The characters in Breene’s stories are always the heart of them. I fell in love with the newer characters introduced in Diamond Dust faster than you can say found family. Their grit, determination and their sense of duty and love that binds them together are evident and they really wind their way into the readers’ hearts quickly. It’s hard not to feel for them and even harder to not root for them.
The pace was the only aspect I found myself struggle a little. I personally felt a mild dip in the pace between the 50%-60% before it picks back up again. This is clearly because the world expands a bit more there (if I’m not wrong). There is some foundation that’s cemented further then, that is later built on. So if pacing is something extremely important for you, maybe you might feel a lag there as well. But if it’s not, you might not notice it at all!
3.75 stars! Happy reading! Please check trigger warnings as always, especially as there are themes in this book that can be difficult for some! This series is absolutely free for any and all KU subscribers.
This was a good end to Daisy and Tarian’s story, but also a good series ending. High stakes. Lots of twists and turns. Scary opposition. Ticking clock. Fantastic chemistry and humor.
3.5 This book was still good but not as interesting to read for me. I feel like it could have gone many different ways but I guess it was okay! The first book was definitely better for me
This book will take you through ALL the feels. I cried, then laughed through the tears, then cried some more, then hope bubbled, terror, disgust, you name it, I felt it.
If you love the chosen one trope, a girl born with no supernatural powers just wits and grit, becoming the ultimate hero and saving not one but two worlds? This book NEEDS to be your first read of 2026.
And the secret that's revealed at the end of chapter 12? OMG 🤯.
It is written in 3rd person with multiple POV, but was so immersive it didn't matter to me. As I said, ALL the feels!
A Must Read!!!!! Reviewed in the United States on November 18 2025 The Queen has done it again! This is a spin-off from the "Demigods of San Francisco" and Daisy is our MFC. And kicking ass like always. I love her running cometary in her head!! lol We left San Francisco for the Fae realm and from there the intensity is off the hook! It is extremely well written. From characters to plot twists, it's everything I love in a book! Gut wrenching to the edge of my seat! Love, witt fantastic battles and crazy Gods!!
This is Book 2 of the duet, following Obsidian and picking up exactly where Book 1 left off. This duet is a spin-off from K.F. Breene’s Demigods series, and while it can be read on its own, I highly recommend reading the Demigods series first as there are returning players, and the payoff is so worth it.
⚠️ Content Warning: This book is darker than Book 1, so please check your triggers before diving in.
We return to Daisy, our FMC, a magicless human trapped in the fae realm, now held at the Obsidian Court with her captor, Tarian, our dark fae MMC. Thrown into the brutal Court Games with no allies and no protection, Daisy is forced to rely on her wits in a world that wants to break her.
The world-building in this duet is magnificent. The story delivers an intense, slow-burn romantasy that keeps tightening its grip with every chapter. The found family element brings everything full circle, grounding the darkness with moments of connection that hit hard in the best way.
And let’s talk about the banter, still absolutely top-tier. Daisy’s inner monologue is delightfully unhinged, and Tarian? Some of his lines will live rent-free in my head for years.
🌶️ Spice Level: The spice is kicked up in this installment, landing at a solid 4🌶️, and it works perfectly with the escalating tension.
⭐ Final Verdict: Another 5 ⭐️ read from an auto-buy author for me. Darker, sharper, and more intense this book takes everything that worked in Obsidian and turns the dial way up.
If you haven’t read K.F. Breene before, I cannot recommend her enough. And if you’re planning to read this duet, do yourself a favor and start with the Demigods series first.
Ms. Breene has just become an "auto-buy" for me and she doesn't disappoint.
Starting with the fact that this story is a spin off of another series that I absolutely loved, and then add that to the fact that it features fiery FMC Daisy - whom I loved from the previous series - and I was already sold.
This is the second book in this spin off series, but it has quite a bit of page time from the original crew of the Gods of San Franscisco series - Lexi, DemiGod Kieran, Mortecai and the rest of the gang - as they all end up in the Faelands to try to rescue Daisy.
The plot centers around MMC Tarian, a Celestial who is under a curse and forced to stay in a court where the magic is becoming corrupt. His goal has been to find the "chalice" to try to balance the magic and save Fairie. The unfortunate thing is that the chalice ended up being a person, not an object....and that person is Daisy.
Then, things get even more complicated when Daisy decides that she wants to stay and help Tarian to save Faerie because in the end, it will save her world as well. I'm sure the fact that she has experienced instant and exp0losive chemistry with Tarian had nothing to do with her decision, right?
I enjoyed this conclusion to the duet. I listened to it on audio and as always, Khristine Hvam did a fantastic job as the narrator. Was there absolute crazy insta-love? Yep. And bonkers behavior? Yep.
Diamond Dust was a read that kept me hesitating between ratings… until the emotional weight quietly tipped the scale. While it didn’t unfold the way I expected after Obsidian, it still managed to pull me in deeply by the end. The fae trials (I wished there had been more!) and magic system felt dense at times and I occasionally struggled with the lore, mind-talk and overlapping realms. Some moments leaned more into raw power than the clever, political tension I was hoping for, but once I stopped overanalyzing and let the story carry me, it worked.
Where this book truly shines is in its emotional payoff. Daisy and Tarian’s bond grows more intense and vulnerable and by the final stretch, I was fully invested. The world blends familiar fae fantasy vibes with a darker, modern edge that will appeal to fans of ACOTAR and The Cruel Prince, while still feeling like its own thing. This isn’t a perfect finale, but it’s a heartfelt and satisfying one. I strongly recommend reading the Demigods of San Francisco series first, as it adds important context and prevents some confusion. In the end, Diamond Dust won me over: messy, emotional, and memorable in all the right ways.
Diamond Dust was a perfect ending to the story of Daisy and Tarian. I don't think this could have wrapped up any better. I also love that it is left open for a spinoff of some of the other characters. There are several o the side characters that caught my interest and I woukd love to see the. get their own story.
I really loved Daisy and Tarian together. They really fit with their own darkness, wit and focus on doing what needs to be done, even at their own persona costs. Their friends and found family really enhance the story and added some fun personalities to the mix.
This duology was my introduction to KF Breene books and I am looking forward to reading more. I am for sure going to go back and read Sin and Choclate to
This threw us right into the action of the high stakes at the fae court, picking up immediately where the first book ended (love that). The atmosphere is fun and the magic is dark. The chemistry between the MCs is so well done and I loved the tension and emotional weight felt between the two of them. There were a few predictable moments, but overall this was so enjoyable!
I really enjoyed this duology. I loved Daisy in the demigods series, an knew she would grow up to be amazing. Daisy did not disappoint, there was plenty of action, revenge, banter, comedy and some spice. I was captivated from the start, the storyline was really good and the ending was perfect, however I need more stories about all the characters as I just love the dynamic and humour between them all and I don't want this to be the end of this world.
I really love Obsidian so much but this book just didn’t go the way I wanted it to 😭 there was so much happening, so many characters and way too much info dumping. I feel like this would have been way better as a trilogy instead of a duology so the plot could have been more fleshed out and it would have given Daisy and Tarian’s relationship more time to develop. I think it could have done with just their POVs too, instead of bringing other characters from the Demigods of San Francisco in. I know they are all family but I would have enjoyed Daisy being able to stand on her on two feet for this spinoff.
In saying this, I did really enjoy the world building and scene setting. K.F. Breene does a really great job of this in her books.
I knew Lexi wouldn’t waste any time in trying to find Daisy. Now, Daisy, you know they are not going to stay in the human realm and just let you be gone. That is not how the family operates. Those fae have no idea who’s coming for them. Yes, Daisy is vicious. That’s why we love her. This may be the only book where I’m not a fan of fae. Was not expecting the sentence at the end of chapter 12. I really like having a pov from Zorn. “It’s like the stars shone down and deposited a miracle just for me.” Now this is how a man should respond when he sees the woman he loves. Tarian is swoon worthy. This Faerie court is very twisted. I love a good touch her and die MMC. Daisy to the rescue!! And finally Demigods to the rescue!! The ending was perfect. I so enjoyed being back in this world and with these characters. K.F. Breene you have created another great story.
I had an ARC of this book. I loved it! I loved that we get to see all of Daisy’s story. There were some parts of the story that didn’t quite flow for me. I don’t want there to be spoilers, but at least one very spicy item that was mentioned or noted several times in the first book, just sort of disappeared in the second book, I assume to make the story line make sense. There were a lot of characters and I didn’t feel like we got a chance to get to know everyone. However, it was fun and I recommend reading it.
I just love Breene’s characters. They are so fun and REAL. This was such a great ending for Daisy. I wasn’t sure where she intended for this storyline to go, but the ending was perfect: dramatic, funny, emotional. It’s hard not to love the relationship between Tarian and Daisy. Their banter is 🤌🏻 and does not disappoint.
Wonder who will get the next spinoff. 👀
(But gimme more Magical Midlife first!)
Thank you SO MUCH for the opportunity to read this ARC!
More action packed than the first but still didn't do it for me. I like the style of writing just not the storyline. At least Daisy and Tarian got their HEA.
Received a digital advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review with no spoilers - thank you to K.F. Breene and the team!
This book continues right where the first book left off. The characters’ growth, knowledge, and compatibility are all strong points. Great mixture of magic, fae, spirits, gods, etc. The story had me in various feels throughout and kept me going until the very end. Loved the ending and epilogue. Looking forward to reading K.F. Breene’s other work!
I was fortunate to be sent an ARC of this audiobook by KF Breene’s team. Diamond Dust is the fantastic second book in the duet. I loved that we got to hear povs from the characters we fell in love with in the Demigods of San Francisco series. Daisy’s storyline was very exciting and the banter and romance was top notch. The spice in this second book was amazing. The audio was well done. I would recommend this authors books over and over again!
So glad I was granted an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book. It was just as good as the first in this duology and the original series.
This duology is a continuation of the six book series Demigods of San Francisco. You really should read that series first since the heroine of this story is the adopted daughter from that story, so she’s got six books of history and character development that come into play in this story. Plus all the characters from that series are heavily present in this series.
The romance is fantastic in this new duology. Such deep love and heavy emotions. There was a lot more angst and pain (emotional and physical) in this series compared to the first, and not as much levity though there was some.
I really enjoyed the journey and story here. It really kinda validated all of Daisy’s trials in her youth and upbringing and gave her a chance to shine. Though she had to suffer sooo much to finally get her well earned reward.
I’m dying to see if Breene chooses to write anything else in this universe. Morticai deserves a happy ever after too, though he never seemed to be as much of a focal point character in the original series as Daisy was, so maybe that won’t happen. Also, who’s Bria dating now? That hint dropped at the end seemed a bit foretelling. Maybe a certain dark god, perhaps? That would be a fascinating story!
I received this as an eARC from the author and this is my honest review!
- multiple POV - MFC steals the show 🌼 - 💕 MMC validates MFC's emotions - Devoted brother 🫶🏻 - 🏠 we will find you anywhere family - giggling at the MC's conversations 😂 "circus tent Martha" 😂 - 🧠 loyal, intelligent, & vicious MFC (yes, mentioning her again) - 🙌 blunt communication - touch him & the MFC will f@@k you up, feel her wrath 😡 (again, she is awesome) - 💭 reading each other's thoughts, but a twist with the MFC - kiss her 💋 and he has to dead you ☠️ - he is ruthless, manipulative, & scary powerful 🖤🔋 - ☑️ everyone is morally grey - court games 🎯 - 🪄 multiple gods, worlds, magic systems, & beings, including humans & fae 🧚♂️🧒
This book was fantastic! I often find a second book lacking when compared to the first (no matter how long the series is). Not this book! I loved every moment and this duology is my favorite duology, ever.
Of note, I did NOT read the first series (the prequel) that led to this duology spinoff. Some things I was a little confused by, but that did not distract from the story or my enjoyment. I will now go back and read the original series about the MFC’s “mother,” who has a POV in this book. It definitely is not required to have read the original 6 books to read this duology.
Let's talk about why I loved it. SPOILERS BELOW!!
As I noted in the first book's review, this book has direct, honest communication and the MC's NEVER shy away from how they feel nor what their thoughts are. No one is embarrassed for their sexuality. This in itself made this book five stars, as it is such a refreshing approach. This genre is filled with miscommunication, secrets, and betrayal. This is all fine and I love many books like that; however, to have a change of pace like this- MCs being on the same page and made the decision to be ruthless together- was AMAZING. ❤️❤️ Well done KF!!
Further, the MCs are both morally grey and don't have guilt for the revenge and violence they seek. They are incredibly loyal to each other. This is also refreshing, as so many books have everyone feeling guilty about everything, all the time.
Throughout the book, I was seriously laughing out loud. This happened multiple times. For those who have read this book, when the MFC sees the 🎪circus dress... or when their friends walk in on them getting 🌶️... 😂😂 These LOL moments made this book incredibly funny, despite the serious plot. This was a perfect blend of seriousness, romance, and humor.
Another factor I loved was that the MMC was a virgin and the MFC was not. He was sooo nervous his first time 🫶🏻 and she supported him through that. This again was unique to the genre and added so much more depth to the story.
Ok, I know I keep saying this book was unique, but I just can't help myself: Another refreshing piece was how someone asks the MFC if the MMC and the Fallen were protective of her as a person because they cared for her or if they protected her because of "what she is." Instead of the MFC having over a page of internal dialogue about how she will never know if they truly like her for who she is because of her power and blah blah blah (like so many books in this genre), she flat out just says, "Does it matter? They are protective." F$$king yessssssss!! So many books have these MCs that just can't accept reality of why, in the end, it doesn't matter if they like her for her or because of her power, especially given the context of the plot! Over time connection can grow, no matter the power. This book and duology is fresh, cuts the bullshit, is direct, doesn't shy away from what the characters are thinking and feeling, and doesn't waste time. This is how I am in real life so I love having a book written in a way that aligns with how I would do things.
An additional comment: when the MFC is stuck with the king, she uses her strength and training. She doesn't become helpless or complain someone isn't saving her. She looks within herself and knows she needs to save HIM; he trusted her in the position she was in, which she agreed to. SO REFRESHING 🙌 to have a badass MFC like this.
Multiple POVs can get tricky and pull away from the MCs or main plot. NOT this book. The POVs were rare, but when they occurred, they added so much more depth to the story and found family. You get to see through the lens of the family that you normally don’t get in books like this. These POVs provoke such strong emotion in the reader, you truly see how much the family loves and will do anything for each other, particularly the MFC. We don’t get told about that love, we are shown how they will unite and achieve their goal of saving her, so get the f@@k out the way! It particularly adds gritty context because the last book we know how much the MFC loves her family, but we don’t know how strongly that is reciprocated. We know the brother deeply loves her, but are not really shown the lengths the found family will go for each other and that their love is unconditional. These chapters really add that, something we don’t often get from other books.
- I loved how unique the ability to read thoughts were with many of the characters, especially the MFC's abilities. - The blend of magic, gods, and worlds were novel and brought such an interesting lens to this book. - The storyline progresses forward, along with the romance. - The plot, romance, magic, and character growth all took a front seat. - The spice was there, well written, and beautiful, but not overdone. - The found families in the Fae lands and human world was so strong. - The author shows you (not tells) how that family blends well together at the end. - The plot ebbs and flows in pacing at a perfect rate. - The MC's character growths were both fantastic. They both are such strong and resilient characters. When faced with adversity, they were intelligent and conniving on their plan, while others the MFC said f$$k it and approached it head on. - them being fated ❤️ mates ❤️😍
Again, I LOVED this book!

An excellent conclusion to the Shadowbound Fae duology. For fans of the original Demigods of San Francisco series, you probably remember and adore Daisy. The Shadowbound Fae series follows Daisy's journey with a mysterious Fae she crossed paths with in the original series.
This duology contains darker themes, so be sure to check your trigger warnings. K.F. Breene is so skilled at writing stories bursting with humor, banter, and sarcasm while also providing intense stakes and incredible action. Every moment feels weighted while also being light enough to imbue with humor. If you enjoy dark humor, sharp sarcasm, and ongoing banter, you are sure to enjoy stories written by K.F. Breene.
I think considering Daisy's past, as well as the character she grew into through the original series, there couldn't have been a better happily ever after for her in Diamond Dust. One thing that was special about this book was the variety of perspectives. If you're familiar with the original series, you'll notice that these characters and the story itself are deeply rooted in the concept of found family. This is a ragtag band of people who were brought together by Lexi and, eventually, Kieran. They surround themselves with unique characters who have deep back stories and incredible magic. These connections are so close that they are quite literally family. Throughout this story, you will see POV's from those closest to Daisy who are not quite part of her current story because this found family stays together, and when Daisy disappears, they will stop at nothing to find her.
I highly recommend reading the original series before jumping into this duology. Although it is not necessary, there is so much value in the emotional impact of being familiar with Daisy's past, as well as the inclusion of the characters from the prior series being so involved in book 2. You won't regret reading either series!
