A perilous ocean voyage. A tempest older than empires.
Ten thousand slaves toil on a demon ship sailing into uncharted waters. One such wretch, unable to use her sorcery, is Bridget Burns. Mired in cutthroat survival, she fosters two a terrified boy, and a gargoyle “cursed” with empathy.
Warlocks Augum and Leera, challenged by scheming crew, sail in pursuit. Their ship barrels toward a mythic storm no ship has ever breached. A storm hiding an ancient secret.
While Bridget must use her wits to keep herself and the boy alive, Augum and Leera must rally the crew to brave the maelstrom. All hope to discover what none have ever seen . . .
What lies beyond the storm.

With Storms of the Ancients, Sever Bronny once again proves a pattern that longtime readers are beginning to recognize. His strongest work consistently rises in the middle of his series. This novel does not simply continue Arcane Legacy. It deepens it, strengthens it, and elevates it into some of the most emotionally resonant storytelling he has written to date.
Bronny’s growth with multi point of view storytelling is especially on display here. While the previous book showcased impressive perspective work, particularly through Leera, Storms of the Ancients firmly belongs to Bridget. Her journey in this installment is, without exaggeration, some of Bronny’s finest character writing. It is layered, emotionally fraught, and deeply human, showing just how far his craft has evolved. The balance between vulnerability, strength, and consequence in her arc is handled with remarkable care.
What stands out most, however, is how confidently Bronny is now navigating darker themes. The dehumanization of slavery, as well as loss, despair, doubt, and failure, all take center stage, yet the novel remains fully accessible to younger readers. This is not an easy balance to strike, but Bronny accomplishes it with restraint and intention. The story never shies away from emotional gravity, yet it never becomes overwhelming or inaccessible. That tension between darkness and readability is where this book shines brightest.
For longtime fans, Storms of the Ancients is a powerful affirmation that Bronny continues to grow with every release. For newer readers, it is a compelling reason to invest deeply in the Arcane Legacy series.
This is middle series Bronny at his best. Confident, emotionally precise, and fearless in its storytelling.
This story takes place in 2 "locations" to follow the trio... wherever Bridget is, and wherever Augum and Leera are. Bridget has to figure out if she's going to allow her heart, to get involved on a slave ship bound for who knows where, if she's going to risk using her skills when she is so vastly out maneuvered and out manned. Her part of the story is nail-bitingly intense, and so full of surprises for her character - her personality and the things she thinks she can accept, or not. Aug and Leera have their own set of challenges. The king has to allow them to go after Bridget and the others who've been taken, but will he really "let" them go? And will they have backup? But they have so many mysteries to uncover and their own challenges to face. Their story is more light hearted and exciting, with tense moments, some harrowing experiences, and a path that is not straight-forward. I thought this story was fantastic. Its definitely one of my favorites in all the stories released to date. I cannot wait for more! I was dreading coming to the end, knowing the overarching story arc won't be resolved but that there has to be some kind of conclusion... and oh my goodness! I feel like Leera after drinking Nodian coffee... bouncing up and down, talking a mile a minute, cant sit still for even a second Leera... because that ending got me! Cannot wait to see what's in store for the trio next!
I’ve read them all. I stumbled upon this world with the first entry in Anna’s story. I’ve seen worked my way through the first series and now am enjoying this second series with our favorite trio.
To be honest I really struggled with the shifting perspectives each chapter in the first book in this series. My review said as much. I felt it would have been better at the time to chunk them. This second time around I did not feel that same struggle. Likely this had something to do with Augum and Leera’s stories basically acting as a double chapter from the same plot line. Mostly I think it was the author doing an even better job of it this time around. During the last book I ended up jumping through many chapters with one characters POV and doubling back repeatedly for the other two. In this book I only did that for a single chapter.
Once beyond 20% it picks up and follows the pace and pattern of the others. It’s beyond annoying that Bronny is slow walking the protagonists march into maturity and even more Leeras completely obnoxious child like personality. Unnecessary!…This might be a point of narrative tension by design but her character is made unlikeable by it. Grow up already at 20 yrs. Even with the growth progression and life experience thus far in both series the trio should be head and shoulders above their peers. Add to that the glacial pace of next in series development I’m rapidly loosing interest. Once a year is just too slow. Your market of readers / customers needs quicker releases. And an move toward a more mature storyline. Not holding my breath for the next one. Moving on…
The world building in this series is truly amazing. I have been reading books set in this world for years, yet it never dulls or becomes repetitive. My only problem with the series is how long it takes to come out! As long as these keep getting produced, I will read them.
It is hard to pace yourself through such great books - I’m always glad when these come out and sad when I reach the author’s notes at the end. This is another great installment in the series.
