A raw and honest memoir that I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s hard to put my feelings into words, I feel this book on a deeper level.
Though I have been following Lainey for a while, I can even recommend the book to those who don’t know her but are interested in womanhood and what that means in the modern world. By her putting her life in perspective, I feel that I can start understanding myself better and therefore also others.
Some of my favourite quotes:
“Being a woman in this world is having to learn how to grieve. There is no way around it. Because the anger stemming from injustice, oppression, discrimination, violence, hopelessness, hyper-independence, the trauma of being different, the lack of support, glass ceilings, childhood wounds, a bleak future, single motherhood, late-stage capitalism, irrational societal expectations, or economic insecurity - it’s just shame, pain, sadness, and lovelessness that caught fire.”
“But we don’t need to learn love. We are love. We need to unlearn everything that isn’t love.”
Such a beautifully honest book . It was a tough reading about Lainey’s trauma but I felt I could relate. It takes a lot to break out and find your own worth especially with our own negative self-talk. I loved her informative but gentle and conscientious describing of the feminism she’s feels connected to and I totally agree with her . I want equality but do not see men as the enemy. Thanks for such a great book
