This Aussie paranormal romance is full of twists and lots of spice! It reminded me of a cross between tv series Charmed, with the possessiveness and swagger of Killian Carson from God of Malice. 4.5 Stars ⭐️
I absolutely loved Drake. He was arrogant but sexy as hell with his possessive and domineering ways. The man has a mouth on him that will have you on your knees!! He’s the high mage and he possesses fire magic and he needs to find a bonded consort (aka a wife) and selects Daniella.
Daniella has been ex-communicated from the witch community due to her stepfather. She’s hiding in the human world as a high school teacher. She hasn’t transcended into her magic yet and she is denying part of herself. She’s determined, strong and smart and has worked hard to make a life for herself outside of the coven.
Once Drake sets his eyes on her it’s a bit of a cat and mouse game, with him pursuing hard and Daniella trying to evade his advances. But the more they get to know each other the more they both start to grow and change and allow their trauma built walls to slowly come down, brick by brick.
This is a character driven book where we follow all the drama of Drake and Dani, trying to protect their coven from ruthless witch hunters. It’s set in Melbourne, Australia and as an Aussie girl I enjoyed the setting being somewhere familiar but also the incorporation of a lot of familiar vernacular and even the food they eat!
The spice between Drake and Dani is so hot 🌶️🌶️🌶️ And the way he calls her his inferno 🥵 There is also an age gap between them which is probably one of the first age gap stories I’ve read but I really enjoyed it. Drake’s wordly experience makes up for Dani’s immaturity and closed off view of herself and the what she decided that she wanted for her life.
The pacing of this story is good, lots of action scenes and magical fighting with some slower moments. You’ll just be waiting for Drake to say something filthy though 😏 It ends on a cliffhanger so I’m excited to read book 2 and see where the story goes. And I am suss on a certain side character, Kris 🤔

So this was my first S.K. May experience, recommended by a friend, and honestly? Walking into this blind was a choice. We’ve got a highly descriptive magical coven set around Melbourne, Australia, which immediately sent my brain into “WAIT… witches… but make it Aussie???” territory. Absolutely uncalled for. Loved it.
The writing paints a vivid, gritty, witchy-as-hell world, though I did catch a few moments of time jumps, pronoun chaos, or suddenly being in the wrong character’s head like my soul astral-projected without consent. BUT—and this is important—it didn’t rip me out of the story. I stayed seated. I stayed invested. I stayed entertained.
Our MMC? Certified alpha asshole™, and you know what? It works. He owns it. Breathes it. Probably wakes up choosing violence.
Our FMC? Unhinged. Unstable. Slightly feral. And honestly? Once more of her story unfolds, it makes sense. Chaos recognised chaos.
Now here’s where I side-eye myself 👀
The story did start to drag. I wanted more plot, more witchy woo woo, more coven shenanigans, and slightly less “bend her over the kitchen counter”. And yes, I am aware of who I am as a person and that me asking for less spice is suspicious behaviour. Growth? Character development? Who knows.
Overall:

Their magnetic connection has you just wanting them to get right down and dirty all the time but the teasing and edging just makes it so much better!

Drake is the exact kind of unhinged High Mage I want ruining my life, and Daniella? She’s got that quiet power that sneaks up and wrecks you emotionally. The coven politics, the witch hunters, the prophecy…it’s all giving “I will sell my soul for book 2” energy. This book! from the beginning, it pulls you in. You are constantly asking yourself what will happen next!
SK.May write so deliberately, so if you have read her books before, you will be analysing everything just like I have.

I really enjoyed Daniella as a main character. She’s a flawed, layered heroine with a complex history that makes her feel genuine and intriguing. Her struggles and strength give her real depth, and I found myself rooting for her the whole way through. Drake, on the other hand, is a fiery, possessive, and at times heavy-handed fire mage with a dark past of his own. Together, their chemistry leaps off the page. The connection between them is intense, messy, and magnetic – exactly what you want in a supernatural romance like this.
The story is packed with spice, drama, and tension, building towards an ending that will either have you throwing your book across the room or staring in stunned silence. It’s a massive cliffhanger, so be prepared! This book leans heavily into the physical and emotional connection between the main characters, focusing more on their dynamic and chemistry. That said, it works well for readers who love a character-driven, passion-fuelled romance. Fwew!!

It’s a different direction to other novels we have read from this amazing author and honestly so far up my alley I wanna marry it. We follow Drake; the powerful head warlock of a prominent coven, moody and broody and a whole lot of ‘ don’t f with me ‘ energy all wrapped in a dark handsome coating as he has to find a wife to appease the magic world. Does he want one? Nope. Does he choose an eligible match found by the council demanding he marry? Also nope. He chooses Daniella.
Daniella who never came into her power fully as she was exiled from the community.
Daniella who is hiding in the human world as a teacher, as far away as she can possibly get from the life that tortured her. From the pain and betrayal. From the secrets she keeps.
Daniella who is firey , independent, outspoken, and wants no part of anything on offer, but as she finds out, nothing is in her control anymore.
And oh my the world she is dragged back into is in turmoil.
The spice is spicy. Drakes energy is in your face with no cares to give in the most delicious way. The backstories are heartbreaking. The connection between the two electrifying. What can I say except Drake is definitely a male specimen who could take down an entire population by just wearing grey sweatpants... (is there a petition to have a certain part of his body get a spin off book yet?)

I devoured this book in one sitting and instantly connected with Drake. There’s something magnetic about the way he perceives and understands Daniella. It’s not just attraction, it’s recognition. He sees her deeply, even before he truly knows her.
As their connection grows and truths begin to unravel, Drake’s devotion unfolds in ways that are both powerful and tender. Daniella’s resilience and strong sense of justice shine through, and I loved how those parts of her weren’t dismissed but deeply admired. Through Drake, Daniella begins to rediscover what love, loyalty, and chosen family can look and feel like.
The world S. K. May has created is stunning. Her world-building and magical lore are hidden within our own, yet so vividly alive that it feels just a heartbeat away. I adored that sense of realism, like I could step into my car and find myself among these characters. The tension, the mystery, and the emotional depth had me completely immersed.

Drake! I finished this book in two days and can't stop thinking about it. Wow...just Wow! I got everything- morally grey MMC, plot twists that left me wanting more and an ending that has me needing book 2.
Daniella is a strong, independent FMC who is pulled back into the world of covens and magic when she is chosen by the High Mage, Drake, to be his new bride. She is thrown back into their world and slowly discovers that she is powerful and capable to be the consort to the High Mage. I loved how her confidence grew throughout the book and I can't wait to see how it all unfolds in book 2.
Then there is Drake. The High Mage. He is everything I want in an MMC- powerful, attractive, possessive, protective and morally grey.
I felt everything reading this novel- I laughed, I raged and I was left gasping at the end.
SK May never disappoints. Everything this author writes, I will read.

This is an action-packed urban fantasy with witch covens, vampires, humans and a whole realm of magic taking place in Melbourne, Australia. Which is always nice to see.
Daniella’s story of trying to escape the underground life she was born into only to be sucked back into it again when her stepfather arranged her marriage to the coven leader.
Drake is dark, dangerous and unpredictable, and they are combustible together.
What I love about S.K May’s writing is the way she weaves in details so subtly in this book that by the end, you go back to read sections and it all makes sense because it was in front of your face the entire time. It actually blew my mind!!

His Inferno by S.K. May is another fiery, emotional read with a cliffhanger ending that leaves you reeling and thinking long after you’ve turned the last page. I can already tell I’m going to have the biggest book hangover from this one.
Drake and Daniela come from the same world but have lived very different lives. Fate may have brought them together—but it just might be the same force that threatens to tear them apart.
His Inferno will break your heart and piece it back together before you even realize it was shattered. A solid 5-star read, and one I’ll be gently bullying everyone I know into picking up.

If you are into possessive alpha males that sport big D energy and are slightly unhinged, then this is the book for you!
Drake is the high mage and has to find a wife, and once he chooses you then that's it. Daniella is the fiesty woman who has done everything in her life to run and stay hidden from the coven. So when Drake chooses Dani things don't exactly go to plan for either of them.
This is a spice forward book with a great plot. But be warned, it comes with a cliffhanger that will leave you reeling.

I adored the MC's. Daniella with her take no nonsense attitude and Drake with his FAFO approach to literally everything. The unique take on an Origin story had me going 'oooh'. There's drama, there's tension. There's a healthy dose of red flags and the accompanying sex appeal to make us all forget just how bad of an idea it would be to say yes. The next book cannot be in my hands soon enough.

His Inferno by S.K. May is a fast-paced, steamy, supernatural romance set in modern Australia. Drake and Daniella’s story hooked me from page one—a mix of arranged marriage, slow-burn tension, elemental magic, and “touch her and die” energy. The ending? A total cliffhanger! I need book two immediately.

My first SK May read and wow what an amazing book! First time I have ever read or heard of a fantasy book that takes place in Australia and it really does give a different vibe that I love. I find the different take on elemental magic intriguing and can't wait to see how the story continues in the rest of the series!
