My passion for reading began with a Christmas gift from my dad in 1979 - two Nancy Drew Mysteries. I still have them perched on my shelf today, a reminder of what started my love for books! Now (a few) years later, you'll find me enjoying faith-based fiction and nonfiction. That is, in between writing articles, texting my young adult kids, or looking for a new way to cook brocolli! I'm the author of Christian nonfiction books for women, which you can find out more about in the community at my online space.
For any woman who has felt seasons of emptiness (which is all of us), this book is an excellent read. We are taken through the book of Ruth through Naomi's experience, where Kristine shows us God's promises to fill us. I appreciated the application of scripture to lead us through the multiple ways God fills us. Even more so, I loved Kristine's honesty and vulnerability as she shared her own journey in to being filled with all that God so graciously provides. I enjoyed this book very much. For any interested, it could easily be used as a bible study tool.
The concept of "empty spaces" in the heart deeply resonated with me. As a Christian author who writes about restoration after divorce, I understand that feeling of emptiness that lingers even after time has passed.
What I appreciate most about "Refilled" is how Kristine uses the story of Naomi, Ruth, and Orpah to illustrate something many of us overlook: that God wants to be "our portion" for those empty spaces, not just temporarily comfort them.
The chapter on "Give Me Strength" especially impacted me. The description of mental and emotional exhaustion preceding physical exhaustion is something I've lived through and that is rarely addressed with such honesty in Christian books. The reflection on the true "rest" that God offers - not just stopping, but a rest for the soul - was exactly what I needed to read.
I loved the conclusion: "God is the portion for my empty spaces, and because of him, I can live refilled." This phrase sums up the entire message with genuine hope.
If I had one observation, I would have enjoyed more practical examples of how to apply these principles day-to-day, but the core message is powerful.
Recommended for any woman navigating loss, grief, or those "empty spaces" that seem like they'll never heal.
Thank you Kristine for your transparency and wisdom.
