From bestselling author Dr. Rebecca Sharp comes a sexy and thrilling bodyguard romantic suspense...

Keira McKenna has lived her life protected—that’s what happens when your father testifies against Boston’s Irish mob.

After years of move after move, Witness Protection settled her in Wyoming. Unfortunately, while Keira embraced her new small-town life, her larger-than-life past wouldn’t stay away. And with it, the one man she’d never forget.

Four years ago, one massive mistake made Archer Reynolds resign from Boston’s police force. Moving home, he opened Reynolds Protective Group—an elite bodyguard agency—to atone for his failure. But when a series of crimes occur in town, he comes face-to-face with the woman whose name was apparently as fake as her death.

Archer can’t believe Keira is alive, more beautiful—and fiery—than he remembered, and still in danger.

The police insist the crimes were random, but Keira knows the mob has found her. Archer is determined to protect her, but after her last lie, Keira isn’t sure she can trust him with the truth. And as desire mounts, so does danger. And once Archer uncovers the truth about her past, he’ll stop at nothing to keep her safe—and make her his.

Rebecca Sharp always loved a good love story. Let's face it, when you include a romance novel on your 8th grade summer reading list just to see if the teacher would notice (she didn't!), she was bound to give writing one of her own a go. There's really no corner of romance that she doesn't (or wouldn't) enjoy writing, except maybe aliens, much to her husband's dismay, so her large catalog features a little something for everyone. However, her love of shows like NCIS and Criminal Minds makes her favorite stories to write the ones with some kind of suspense and crime solving.

When she's not writing, she's at her office treating patients, and somewhere between those two things, you'll find her wandering the globe with her husband always searching for their next adventure.

DNF @ 70%

I just can’t anymore. This book is so dumb.

Let’s see…

1. The heroine is supposed to be dead to avoid being hunted by the mafia, but she’s advertising her tattoo business on social media and “making a name for herself”

2. The heroine refuses to believe that anyone could have found her after being safe for a few years. It’s impossible, she says!

3. People keep breaking into her business but it can’t be anything to do with her past, nope!

4. The heroine randomly decides to tattoo the hero’s chest before they are even officially together. With no input from him….

5. A few chapters later and they are now hooking up and she asks him to tattoo her!!!! He doesn’t know what he’s doing, why would she ever want that?!?!?!!!!

This is the part where I just quit because I couldn’t take any more bs.

Oh and also, the hero has pined for the heroine during all their years apart… he thought she was dead but he never got over her. Cute right? Meh… He hooked up with women during that time, whatever. But did I need to know that he learned how to do all the tricks to make oral amazing because he wasn’t into his hookups? Or something along those lines. It’s just the dumbest thing I’ve heard because if he’s not into the women he’s having sex with (because he misses the heroine so much) you would think he would be more focused on getting a release for himself, not learning better tricks to get better at oral… to please these random other women? Make it make sense!!

Safety meh
She’s a virgin

i’m not going to write a full review for this because i don’t really feel like spending a ton more time with this book but here are my thoughts.

for starters, i had a really hard time connecting to the characters or the story. they both seemed kind of bland and uninteresting so i didn’t really care when things happened to them.

this is definitely insta lust/love. they know each other for 2 weeks and then she disappears and four years later they run into each other and they’re still hung up on each other. after one kiss 4 years ago?? no chemistry at all.

the mmc was really annoying - as much as he’s boasted as this intelligent cop/bodyguard, he can’t fathom that she disappeared the way she did and then he’s pissed at her for so much of the book even though he keeps saying he understands? give me a break.

the fmc was so naive and wait for it. a virgin. i hated it. moving on.

then THEN there’s a really suspect spice scene with a tattoo gun and i left the building. i’m honestly proud of myself for finishing this.

i’ve heard book four is supposedly really good so maybe i’d give it a go one day, but probably not any time soon. this one though? sorry, i can’t recommend it.

i’ve never read anything by this author but it’s a romantic suspense between a bodyguard and a woman in witness protection - hoping it’s a fun one 🤞🏻

"Regrets are rocky. It's hard to build a fresh start on them."

Keira McKenna has been on the run for most of her life.
Thanks to her father's connection to the Irish mob she has always had to run.
But now without her father she wants to have a permanent place.
A place where she can finally stop running.
The only problem?
The place she chooses is the home of the only man she has ever cared for.
Archer Reynolds.
And it doesn't help that he thought she was dead for the past 4 years.

"Archer Reynolds was as far from being a bad guy as one could get. I knew that with certainty since I'd grown up around enough real bad guys. But what he could be was too good for his own good."

Archer Reynolds runs the Reynolds Protective Group along with his 3 brothers.
For the past 4 years he has had to live with the feeling of failure.
Failing that 19 year old girl he promised to protect.
The girl he couldn't let himself fall for.
He has been beating himself up every day.
Until she walks back into his town and more importantly into his life.
Archer is pissed, but those feelings don't just go away do they?

"Time had done nothing but strengthen the way I wanted her."

Ok so the story behind this is that I bought the last book because I heard it was Spencer Reid coded and I said "say no more and take my money". AND THEN I found out that it is part of a series and because of my OCD about this kind of thing I was like "say no more take more money for the first three books". And I picked this up now and I legit do not regret it at all!! I was hooked from the security firm I mean how could I not be am I right??

"Every minute I was around her, I was torn with wanting to protect and punish and pleasure her."

First, lets start with Keira McKenna. Love her ok? We love a tattoo artist who loves Greek Mythology and we are all here for it!! Keira is the daughter of someone who snitched on the Irish Mob and she has been in Witness Protection for most of her life which led to her running and running and running. Until she stopped in the one place she heard so much about from her previous bodyguard. The one man who has not been able to escape her mind. And I mean she faked her death!!! And still walks through the town like a badass just saying. Claps all around for Keira McKenna!!

"I was in danger here. Not my life, but definitely my heart."

And we have Archer Reynolds. The first time in a long time I have been obsessed with a slightly less morally grey man just saying. Like the quote says "he is not a bad guy" but man does he want to protect Keira like a criminal and I was here for all of it!!! I am obsessed with the way he is obsessed!! I mean the guy runs a security firm - already protective and then add his girl who he thinks is being targeted!!! TURN IT UP TO FUCKING ELEVEN PEOPLE!! Love love love and the way he is with his brothers is so cute!!! Legit cannot wait for their books!!

"I would always do whatever it took to protect her. Job or not."

The playlist is giving romantic suspense and we love that <3

She had a bewitching paradox about her—young but with a gaze weighted by wisdom. Innocent but with a life filled with too many hard experiences. Like a rare jewel, each facet of her personality shone differently depending on the light. And I wanted to know them all.

Certain sentences here show just how talented this author is in descriptive. However, such sentences are drowning in a sea of useless words. The author makes a point with a fantastic sentence and then beats the horse to death by going on and on and on with same damn thought taking up pages upon pages.

Plot Is Puff The Tragic Famine

Prologue… 19yo mob daughter is under protective custody with her informant father. Book begins with her smitten with her detective protector, who is at least a decade older than her and shared the feeling but refuses to act on it. They kiss right before her death is faked.

Plot center around one thing: He spends the next four years thinking she’s dead until she shows up in his hometown, which he moved back to after thinking he was responsible for her death.

^^ Okay, I’ll go with it, but only for so fucking long. Geezus.

That Keira was alive, that I still wanted her, or that somehow, it seemed even more wrong now than it had four years ago?

Chapter upon chapter with the MMC pissing in his pudding that he still can’t be with the FMC because she didn’t/doesn’t trust him with every single facet of her past. He knows the highlights, but apparently he needs some kind of 1,000 page detailed autobiography from her or something. It’s all much ado powderpuff angst.

I’m sorry, but the MMC acts like a little bitch invaded a dirty-mouthed dumbass with a hero complex.

So, the small town post office was broken into. Oh, what a big mystery. Is it the mob looking for her 🥱🤦‍♀️🤔👻👩🏼‍🦯. <<< That “suspense” is so f’ing obvious, and all the hoopla just makes the characters look like idiots. Even with their oblivious slow uptake to what’s going on, are we really supposed to believe her dad would slowly die of cancer and never mention the big mystery valuable as both an asset and danger?!?! 🤨🙄

I have never read a book with so much damn mundane bullshit. It’s like a Brady Bunch episode.

Even the sexy was boring. Maybe, it’s because the author has already cemented them as idiots~?Anyway, all the biting shit was overkill… more isn’t always more. The tattoo being done with one hand while he FFs her with the other hand…. Ah, that would be one jacked up scraggly ass tattoo 😂🙄.

This was tragic… tragically bad from every single angle. Okay, I get that the author is attempting to be creative, but this is as big of a flop as mystery-colored ketchup.

I spot read the last 20% just to say this wasn’t yet another DNF. Would recommend this for anyone going camping. You never know when you’ll run out of toilet tissue or dry wood😑

If this book hadn’t been presented as an owed to criminal minds I think it would’ve had more potential. Because plot wise everything made sense. I didn’t expect the twist at the end like I suspected it but not enough to not still be surprised. Some of the scenes between the leads had their moments and made sense with their backstories.
But I picked this up because I love Criminal Minds it’s one of my main comfort shows. But turns out I love Hotch and everything that happens with him canonically too much to be able to enjoy this book.
Archer was so similar to Hotch in some ways ( ie. the leader, responsible, no nonsense slightly a grouch.) but then did some things that Hotch would never do (ie. Thirsting over a 19 year old girl while he’s 29 while she’s in his care. Talk about unprofessional. Hotch is too much of a gentleman to be thirsting over this woman the way that he does and how possessive he gets is just so cringe)It didn’t help that this book gave off 50 shades vibes between her being a virgin, him being all freaky protective and some of the cringy dialogue I was transported back and not in a good way.

So to make a long story short if you like criminal minds don’t read this read fanfiction.

How the main characters were simultaneously supposed to be very clever with good self-preservation instincts AND complete morons is beyond ridiculous.

SPOILERS

If you had a painting to sell but "didn't know who it was by or the history" and some pawn dealer gave you $100k for it, wouldn't you be a bit suspicious that you had something interesting?

The whole self-sacrifice bullshit to keep everyone else safe at the end 😒

The mob is after you and the stolen stuff - they know where you live and who you associate with... Will you involve the protection company who are your new family or give up all your leverage and go it alone 👩‍🦯👩‍🦯👩‍🦯

The whole marking thing was offputting

Also the use of the word "womb"

Also taking her V from his POV. Just ramming in to the hilt and not being able to think about anything but how good it felt ✨️for him✨️

This really isnt a review of this book as it is about my new discovery of this author..Dentist by day, romantic suspense author by night.
So far I have read and enjoyed 3 books by this new to me author and looking forward to more reads by her.
Her heros are all about the heroines and they have the possessive "mine" down pat.Her heroines each compliment the heros and hold their own.
The author writes some scorching hot love scenes which is always a plus.
So glad I read a blurb on FB about a book of hers as I found a new to me author that I am enjoying.

Kiera and Archer meet under unusual circumstances, four years ago, when Archer was a Detective for the Boston Police and Kiera's dad (mob enforcer turned FBI informant) was testifying against the head of the Boston Mob.

Going into protective custody required a fake death and a whole new identity for her and her dad, but not before Kiera tried to grab hold of something good and pure, a first kiss from the only man she ever allowed herself to care about. Archer.

Fast forward four years later. Archer, thinking he failed in protecting Kiera, the one that got away, has moved back home to run a private security firm with his brothers. It comes as a painful surprise to run into the girl he thought was dead, actually alive and well. Living in his home town! Not only does Archer have to come to terms with feelings he never before allowed himself to acknowledge, let alone talk about, but mysterious incidents happening too close to home have him hyper aware of Kiera's past and what or who could be targeting her.

It's been such a long time since I've read a book that was so engaging. I loved Kiera and Archer. They had such a complex and intense emotional connection that I found myself glued to the book, not wanting to walk away because something was sure to happen between them and I just couldn't wait for it to unfold.

Their 2nd chance romance story is exciting, a bit angsty but so full of bold emotion that I devoured it! This was not only a sexy read, it was suspenseful, endearing, adrenalin pumped and deeply emotional. It was a meaty read that ticked all my boxes.

This story has amazing leading characters but also has some really interesting side characters that I can't wait to read more about! Needless to say, all the Reynold brothers are something worth talking about :)

This is my first Rebecca Sharp book but it won't be my last! I loved her writing, the characters she created and their journey to a HEA was everything that I love in a good book. There is a touch of danger, mystery, friendship, humor, love and family. I 100% highly recommend. It's an ultimate favorite and I can't wait to get a physical copy for my bookshelf!

Favorite Moments/Quotes:
I loved the prologue. Getting to see young Keira falling for Archer and Archer fighting his feelings for the girl he's meant to protect, not seduce was an added layer to their intense relationship.

Weirdly, their awkward reunion was also really memorable. On one hand they were both happy to see the other person was alive and well but on the other hand, Kiera still felt like she had to keep her distance emotionally and Archer was dealing with conflicting feelings of elation, anger, fear and love for someone he'd mourned. Again, highlighting their intense connection.

The tattoo scene. I loved Archer's reason for agreeing to let Kiera tattoo him.
Something primal jolted in my chest, hearing her say she wanted to mark me.

I wanted the damn tattoo because I wanted her to give me something that she couldn't take back.

I wanted one fucking piece of her that I couldn't lose again.

The story of Orion and how it tied their own love story together. It was poetic and maybe even mushy but I loved the comparison and how Kiera and Archer each related to it in different ways.

Lastly, I loved all of Archer's brothers. Gunner, the responsible, level headed one (paired with Zoey!), Gunner, the laid back, player and sweet eccentric Ranger.

Let's see, where do I start. First off, the things I didn't like:

1. MMC taking the FMC's V is in HIS POV and it is all "one full thrust". It had me feeling secondhand pain for the FMC and his enjoyment of it all felt very.... icky.
2. Having an FMC being a tattoo artist but I'm questioning if the author has any tattoo knowledge at all. She tattooed for a couple ofyears and now she is known for tattooing art masterpieces?! Ummmm okay.... and zero mention of a single apprenticeship. Fantastic. Don't even get me STARTED on the spice scene where he is using one hand on her and the other is tattooing. His first tattoo. Apparently, no ink, blood, or plasma needs to be wiped. Has the author ever even seen 5 seconds of tattooing?! And he is magically a fantastic tattooer and not totally ravaging her skin whatsoever. Oh and his first tattoo? Upper pec, and she has him sit on the bench and lean back on his hands.... stretching out that area completely... anyone who has received any tattoo knows this is a big no-no.
3. As someone who is in a law enforcement family and is an officer and detective himself, he is unreasonably mad that she didn't tell him her plan to go into WITSEC. Dude. The first rule of WITSEC is that you don't talk about WITSEC. Get over yourself.

Things I did like:
1. Ranger
2. The whole thing read very quickly - It turned on assistive reader and got it done in a day.

I will continue on, because I feel like it is just these two characters that really threw it off for me. But, I am not opposed to just jumping to Ranger's book.

2⭐️!

This may be partly my fault- I was so excited for this book as it was marketed as a criminal minds guy fan fiction type of romance, but this lacked so much. Arguably if you take off the criminal minds comparison it would be an alright book.

This book felt very insta love, even if there was a time gap between the characters getting back into eachothers lives, the mystery was intriguing but I smelt that plot twist from page 100.

Overall not for me

Kiera’s brain could rotate inside a peanut shell for 100 years and never touch the sides.

Tbh I had a multitude of issues with this book, it’s definitely could have used a second go at an editor to deal with some of the typos and discrepancies, but all that is sidelined by the main female character being the stupidest person alive. Like ??????? Her choices aren’t even questionable they are just straight up unbelievable.

2.5 stars. I will be reading the next book in the series

Keira is very ignorant towards the danger she is in - and that is for me a MAJOR point of critic at the beginning of the book.
But admittedly they are both dumbasses at the beginning.
Then around the middle this changed. I like how the story develops in the second half. Keira's story is interesting in my opinion, Archer's protective instinct understandable, and both of them have a good chemistry.
It's such a nice detail that Keira is a tattoo artist. For once, it makes so much sense (her craving permanence and all), and for whatever reason, I do like FMCs that are tattoo artists, that made me want to like her even when I did not😂

Tropes/Themes:
- bodyguard romance
- romantic suspense
- protective MMC
- tattoo artist FMC
- Irish mafia
- witness protection
- second chance
- dual PoV

Five seconds into the new year and already a DNF. This book just isn't it for me.
Let me discover their history through the story they're writing today. Felt hot&heavy from the start and that's not my fav trope. Such a shame because the author advertised it as books connected to the characters from Criminal Minds.

While I enjoyed my read of this, I wanted it to be better. There were times where the writing was really good and then there were times where the writing was rushed like the climax of the whole story. It did get a little annoying with the fact that she couldn't figure out if he liked her or not when it was obvious from the beginning and then there were the repetitions of "mark me" until this person who has never tattooed before ever, tattoos the FMC with one hand while the other hand was busy doing something else mind you. I also find it unbelievable that someone who was on the run for so long would let her guard down and assume the things happening around town didn't have to do with her. The trope when the protected person feels like they know best and throw themselves to the wolves though to protect those they love happens in this book but it also feels a little unbelievable because she has learned to protect herself and watch her back and she throws caution to the wind even though Archer asked her to trust him.
There were things I liked though. I liked the touch her and die aspect. I liked a lot of the writing style. I liked the type of tattooing she does as well as the small town aspect of it all.
