I have always wanted to travel. My grandfather was still travelling all over the world well into his nineties. As a little girl, I loved to hear the tales of his adventures - how he canoed down uncharted tributaries of the Amazon discovering new species of birds of paradise, how he saw elephants and tigers in the wilds of India, how he saw lost ancient cities in South America.
....But somehow I got to my thirties and still hadn't plucked up the courage to set off on my big adventure. I feared that I was not hardy enough to survive the conditions I would find myself in if I wanted to see all these exotic places and animals. And I was still searching for a companion of the heart to share all these wonderful experiences with.
In 2001 I embarked on a self-development course with Spirit Horse - a mind-blowingly crazy pilgrimage, rich with ancient cultural traditions and their myths, stories, songs and poetry. It opened my heart and helped me reconnect with nature, with the earth, and with humanity. It also helped me to see what was right under my nose...
Finally I met my companion of the heart at shiatsu school, where we were both training to become shiatsu practitioners. He is Bill - a wild, impulsive, intrepid creature - and a complete contrast to my English reserve. He helped me find the courage to put all my excuses behind me and set off on that adventure of a lifetime.
After our year's travelling, Bill and I moved to Bristol, where I worked as a freelance writer and taught courses on shamanic journeying and shiatsu.
We now live in beautiful, rural Herefordshire with our daughter, and a growing menagerie of animals. I continue to write and help Bill to run his landscape gardening business. I am training in Touch for Health kinesiology to add to my tool kit of healing therapies. Bill and I are setting up a complementary therapy business, in which we will be giving healing treatments and running courses in self-development.

Title: The Unicorn and The White Lion
Guardians Of The Wild: Book of 1
Author: Anna Bromley
Genre: Fantasy | Paranormal |YA |
Pages: 298
Publisher: The Unbound Press

I don’t read a lot of fantasy especially since becoming an adult although it is a genre I do tend to enjoy when I pick it up. So when the invite came through to apply for this book tour i decided to dive in. Firstly the title and cover caught my eye especially including a lion as I used to absolutely love Nania growing up and who doesn’t have a soft spot for Aslan. Regulus filled the lion shaped hole I have perfectly. I’m hoping in book two we get more of him as we know the white lions will be featured.
The character I loved the most though was Nanny Watkins. She honestly was so interesting and knowledgeable. Her relationship with Grace, Daisy and Archie and from the very first time they stumble upon her in the woods to the last page she was amazing. I really want to be invited to her cottage in the woods for a cup of tea. I would love to listen to her talk about everything she knows. I can imagine her cottage being an extraordinary place to be with lots of interesting items and books to read.

Fairstone as usual worked perfectly for the story as a boarding school and Grace as the new girl was always going to be super daunting for her. The friendship she found with Daisy and Archie was beautifully written I loved the strong bonds they made together and think they will go from strength to strength as the series progresses.

Paranormal activities aren’t really something I’m a huge follower of but I thought the chapter with Nanny Watkins meeting her son again was done so elegant and beautifully. It brought a tear to my eyes.

Overall this was a really magical, whimsical and poetic read. Anna has done the most brilliant job of bringing the guardians of the wild world to live. An extremely promising start to this world and I’m looking forward to seeing what book 2 brings.

I would recommend to fans of Narnia, Harry Potter or Nevermoor. Even better to new fans of the fantasy genre it’s easy to follow and no complicated magical systems or names to remember. These are always my biggest worries with fantasy books.

This fantasy is ideal for those who enjoy the Narnia or the Tiffany Aching books. A perfect read to curl up with blankets, jumpers and a hot drink now the weather is turning colder.
A highly enjoyable book with some good characters in. Nanny Watkins is an interesting and wise character. I loved her relationships with the children, she is the kind of character I would love to be around. There is no complicated magic system or world building. Boarding schools, forests and mountains make for the perfect setting for this magical tale with a lot of heart and strong bonds throughout. There are a few scenes that tugged at the old heartstrings which helped to bring another layer to the story.
I also have to point out the drawings with each chapter title were stunning.
All in all it was an easy but interesting, well flowing plot to follow with interesting characters all with growth. If you are wanting to dip your toe into the fantasy genre this is a good start. I would say this is suitable for anyone in their teens and above. A very strong start to the series.

Thank you to Love Book Tours Unbound books and Anna Bromley for my physical copy to read and review.

Grace is off to boarding school. Nervous and unsure of her strengths so soon makes friends and so her journey starts. Grace is kind and sensitive and seems to be able to tap into people and their feelings. Daisy is lively and funny and sporty and they soon make friends. Archie is clever, and loyal and keen to help people. They soon become a strong trio.

But there is more to Fairstone school than we might first think. Soon the children meet Nanny who is a mysterious character. We also meet the white lion and the unicorn as the magic unravels.

This book was like a trip down memory lane. Narnia meet Malory towers with a sprinkling of Harry Potter. It was exactly what I would have read 45 years ago!

The characters are very good and very polite – although they do sometimes break the rules in pursuit of magic. Everyone is very nice to each other and even the things that go wrong – like broken limbs – are quickly resolved by magic.

I really enjoyed the scenes with Nanny. She has her own story and it is through her the children really begin to find out their strengths and weaknesses.

The book is the first of three and the children’s journey looks set to continue in South Africa. I hope that the white lion becomes more of a character in the next adventure.

A great read for younger children ( maybe 8-14)who like a magical adventure.

The Unicorn & the White Lion by Anna Bromley.
Guardians of the Wild book 1.
I absolutely loved this book. The cover is gorgeous and it's the reason I signed up for this tour. I loved the sound of it. I got into it straight away. I loved Grace, Archie, Daisy and Charlie. I loved They made a great team. I also loved Ahbleza the unicorn and Nanny. This gave me narnia vibes. I listened to this on the kindle app. Wow. I absolutely can't wait for the next book. This is one that I definitely recommend.

I absolutely adored The Unicorn and the White Lion! It had so many elements of my favorites - Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia - all wrapped together to make this world of magic and time travel and adventure. Regulus reminds me so much of Aslan, wise and fierce. I also loved the themes of forgiveness, grace, and mercy at a pivotal part, a lesson we can all learn from.

The Guardians of the Wild are friends for life, and I look forward to seeing what other adventures await them in books 2 and 3!

This book took me back to my childhood and the simple times of old fashioned adventure and magic without the drama and complexity of modern day stories. It felt wholesome on a Mallory Towers / Chronicles of Narnia level and I can imagine children/ young teens just getting into reading would love this. The storyline was easy to follow and the language easy to understand with likeable characters. It did feel a little slow in parts but as it is book 1 of a 3 part series, it built up the characters well and set them up for future adventures.

I’m not usually a major fantasy reader but the beautiful cover gave me Narnia vibes so I had to give it a go.

I was not disappointed! The fantasy was not too heavy meaning I was able to follow the world of magic quite easily.

I loved the three main characters Grace, Daisy and Archie - great set of friends. I loved the boarding school antics too.

There was a good underlying message to the story about embracing what makes you different. This is an ideal read for teens and adults alike!
