It was an overall enjoyable read, but I kinda wanted more from it in certain ways.
The storyline was good, but I feel like a lot of it revolved around James’s alcohol addiction, which, while it played into the plot, took precedence over the horror aspect. The last 50-60 pages focused more on the horror and picked up in my opinion. I did end up staying up way too late to finish it!
Other than that, there was something missing for me that I can’t quite place my finger on. I think it’s character background and development. James is a troubled individual who never felt like he fit in so he drinks, but it would have been nice to get a little more background to what about his life lead him down this path to make it such a huge part of the story. We also don’t find out details about many characters until the end that I feel could have been added throughout the book to give the reader more about why we should care about them.
