Le Chat Gris

Rate this book
In the French Quarter of New Orleans, secrets cling to the walls like ivy, and no place holds them tighter than Le Chat Gris, a family-owned café whispered to be haunted for over three centuries.

For Jasmine De Montrichard, the café is both duty and sanctuary. By day, it hums with music, sugar, and laughter. By night, it stirs with strange whispers, flickering candles, and the painted eyes of a gray cat that seem to watch her every move.

When Julien, a mysterious stranger, begins appearing each evening—handsome, elegant, and unsettlingly timeless—Jasmine feels the pull of a story older than herself. Then a second man Anton Velikov, a storm-eyed officer whose presence is as commanding as it is enigmatic. Between them lies a tangle of desire, danger, and secrets too deep to ignore.

As Jasmine is drawn into a world where the line between ghost and lover, curse and promise, blurs, she must protect the café’s legacy, or surrender to the forces—and the passions—that threaten to consume her.

A lush blend of gothic romance, supernatural suspense, and the magic of New Orleans, Le Chat Gris is the beginning of an unforgettable saga of love, haunting, and the courage to face the stories that shape us.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this ARC read!!!! It’s going on my top 10 reads for 2025!!! It takes place in New Orleans which is one of my favorite places to visit due to its rich history. This book combines New Orleans historical time periods with witches, magic and vampires… I mean come on what’s not to love especially with spooky season starting soon!!! I’m a spooky season girly all year so this book is my vibe!!

The characters work so well together especially the ever evolving chemistry between Jasmine and the ever so sexy Anton who is an Officer on a cruise ship…WHAT!? Sima is Jasmines bestie and coworker who is a RIOT!! Her comments were hilarious and some of her mannerisms and the way she talked reminded me of Charlotte La Bouff from Princess and the Frog. Julian..we’ll get to him!!

Spoilers….if you don’t want them I’m sorry!!

There’s this strange man, who comes to the café every day at the same time but no one knows who he is. It’s not until Anton does some people watching and realizes this stranger is not “normal”. My mouth dropped when Anton realized who this strange man is… A FREAKIN VAMPIRE!!!

We find out his name is Julian. At first I was very hesitant about him. Until I heard his story from a few different points of view. The fact that Jasmine’s bloodline, Madame Élisabeth de Montrichard to be exact, in 1769 cursed Julian for their own gain makes my blood boil. As Sima said it perfectly, “Lord have mercy. She claimed him with her own blood and called it protection. Ain’t no wonder he bitter. She robbed him of choice.”

Throughout the rest of the book, you can clearly see that Jasmine is not like the rest of her bloodline. She wants Julian to trust her, and she wants to trust him. In the end, they end up devising a plan to give Julian what he truly wants, that was not given to him centuries ago. Julian reminisced about the past with Jasmine while Jasmine looks forward to future endeavors with Sima, Anton and Le Chat Gris.

Okay, here's my take:

Wow, I just finished reading this book, and I'm still reeling! Seriously, I couldn't put it down – stayed up way too late every night. The characters felt so real; I was completely invested in their stories. Definitely going to be recommending this one to everyone I know, it's a must-read!

I debated between giving this 3 or 4 stars throughout my reading. I enjoyed the character of Simi. I loved her dialogue with others. She was the business partner/best friend I would enjoy being with in New Orleans . Honest, caring, entertaining and made sure you were on the right path. I love the setting in the Cafe and the character of the spirits. Julien also was very passionate and you could feel the passion and heartache he was experiencing. His love for Jack was genuine. Unfortunately, the romance of the main characters Anton and Jasmine felt flat for me. I had hope when she first entered the cruise ship. The conversations at first were charming but the romance felt very rushed. It felt he was so busy trying to protect others that stirrings of romance seemed to be lost. I also wondered how he seemed to able to give up his whole career so easily. No delays with needing to report for investigation on what had happened to the sunken cruise ship and no transfers to another vessel. He could just leave and not be torn by not returning. The relationship didn't feel as strong and passionate as Julien's. Maybe the characters just need more time to develop that now that Anton doesn't have to guard everyone? I did see there is an upcoming sequel with some dead bodies. It does seem like an intriguing plot line so I will likely check it out to see if I connect more with the main characters.

ARC - this is a good read, I love the atmosphere and flow - it’s reminiscent of Interview With The Vampire and Discovery Of Witches. A really good story that kept me turning pages.
