AWAKEN YOUR IMAGINATION

HER NAME WAS NEVER SPOKEN.

HER LIFE WAS ONE OF ABUSE AND LONELINESS. HER DREAM WAS TO BE FREE.

Though Raya was the daughter of a lord, the scars on her body showed a different life than the one she should have lived. She had once believed her life was meant for more, but her father had beat that dream out of her long ago.

Did she believe in magic? No she didn't. The only magic in her life was in the stories of the books she stole from her father's library.

Until one moonless night the whisper of her name called her to the deepest and darkest part of the house, where her father housed his forbidden books of lost kingdoms and realms.

Heart breaking secrets are revealed and now she has to find her own way in a world that she doesn't know exists.

Her freedom is stitched into the fabric of the universe. Magical objects and creatures guide her to Celestria where all her questions will be answered, though the answers that she so desperately wants to discover are not what they seem.

So will Raya become who she was destined to be? Or would her need for total freedom destroy her?

**MINOR SPOILERS**

Big thanks to the author for the ARC!

I have some thoughts on this book but am just not sure how to convey them properly. Regardless, here it goes…

This is a decent debut novel, but could be a lot better if some of the editing and consistency issues were fixed.

One of the major things I had an issue with is that it’s kind of hard to follow the dialogue with the way that it’s presented. There will be a whole paragraph with dialogue from different characters within it that make it hard to follow who is speaking.

Another thing I noticed and was very confused about is Faewryn/Faewyrn/Faewyn All three spellings are used throughout the book and I am unsure if this is just an editing error or if these are all different things/places and I just missed it??

The dialogue between characters don’t read thousands of years old fae to me. There were certain phrases (little man syndrome, dick tied up in knots) that really brought out of the story when said because it just doesn’t fit with this kind of story for me. The dialogue between the male characters gave me the ick at times.

The world building is great and has soo much potential! I loved the descriptions of all the different places in this universe. We get to read about many different locations, which I love. All the cute little animals and cool creatures were super fun to read and learn about, as well.

The characters we're just okay. I didn't really resonate with the main character. Despite her tragic background, I found her emotions to be extreme, fickle, and childish. I also don't understand how she has any social skills considering she supposedly never had conversations with anyone before she meets the other main characters. The love interest is just meh. There's nothing exciting about him. He's actually kind of cruel if you really think about it. I do like the side female characters though.

Fated Mates aren’t really my thing and usually bother me, but I didn’t mind this fated mate story. I do personally enjoy the buildup of a love story... and there was basically no build up here so I felt the chemistry between the two lacking a bit.

There was a lot of build up only for the ending to be a massive cliff hanger before anything really happens. That is kind of frustrating, but I can see why the author did it if they want this first book to be more of a world building situation.

Overall, I think this was a decent debut but could be better with some more editing and refining of the characters. The story overall has such great bones and the author can do so much with it in future books.

There are several things that I look for in a good book. Interesting characters, gripping storytelling, enticing plot, and unique world-building are at the top of the list. Unfortunately, this book had about one of these: unique world-building. The characters were not interesting: they seemed rather one-dimensional, and their motivations would change at the drop of a dime. The storytelling was not gripping: it read like a middle school book, except I wouldn't give it to a 12 year old due to the explicit sex scenes. The plot was very straight-forward and boring. The only thing going for it is the world-building, which is unique enough that I wanted to see more of it, with a lot more description. This is not a win for me.

Thanks to LibraryThing for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

💌 Thank you to the author for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a promising debut with an interesting concept and beautiful worldbuilding that made the setting feel vivid and immersive.

I especially enjoyed exploring the world and seeing how the story unfolded, with a few moments that genuinely surprised me.

At times, the reading experience felt a bit uneven due to small inconsistencies in the writing, but nothing that couldn’t be improved with further editing.

I’m looking forward to seeing how the author’s work develops in the future.

If you love fantasy that truly transports you, The Lost Star of Faewyrn is a magical escape you’ll want to explore. From the very first page, Adele J. Taylor crafts a world where secrets are buried in ancient tomes, magic isn’t always what it seems, and one woman’s quest for freedom becomes a wonderful journey.

Raya’s story is both a personal evolution and an epic adventure, weaving emotion with beautiful landscapes and mythical lore. A great pick for readers who enjoy fantasy, mysterious prophecies, and characters whose courage lights up the page.

This book was an amazing first novel. I couldn’t put it down from the first page. The world building had me lost from the start. I have read so many fantasy books and this is one of my favourites. Raya was a lost soul who struggled to find her way through life.
She didnt want to be saved she wanted to be free. There was heartbreak which is a must and made me wanting more. I found myself drawn to Raya and her circumstances. Aranor in my head my was new book boyfriend and cannot wait for book 2.

Good debut novel, I think i would have given more stars if I liked the main character, but I found her a little annoying.
