Hallucination ? Reasons for three stars:

-Get annoying with every book (that I read) of this Harris Invesigation Series about characters falling in love.
-So tired of the happy everlasting endings of each book of the series.
- Like others stated, I was intrigue about the story.

Right off the bat, I'd admit I was intrigued by the talking to the dead aspect of things, this was my first book like that...but the book just had a dryness to it that I couldn't overcome.

The characters were under developed! Jed came and went as an enigma. Even Christina had no true depth or substance, besides being a tall, beautiful red head! I couldn't tell you how many times that was written!

I think I liked the ghost the most and was truly sad to see him go.
Next I liked the dog! He showed more personality than the lot!

The romance wasn't developed. Yeah it went under the heading of having had a crush forever etc....but Jed sorta came off as a lil sick....because all of a sudden he is INTO her...no, hey she is a mature lady and wow my feelings evolved. It came over more as the old teen who was secretly lusting the 12 year old, despite her gangly limbs! And one time at the funeral she referred to him as the handsome cousin and then Oh she had a crush forever! Come on! More build up than that is warranted!

Why are all these mystery writers robbing me of the motive of their serial killer!! Watch Criminal Minds would you guys!! There is ALWAYS back story! WHY!! Is that person murdering??? This man is ONLY killing red heads, beautiful ones. I guessed him because...duh, she only had two remaining relatives, to make one a psycho would have been cruel! It was not Jed...and well logically it had to be him....but come on!! What was his thing for red heads, was it symbolically Christina? Did he hate the family? Was his mother a red head?? These authors are just killing off these psychopaths and we never get deeper into what made them tick which is causing me to believe they created a character with no true motive, haven't done their homework into minds like those, and are too lazy to create a complex individual! Ex: So a man only kills blonde hookers who were natural brunettes and bam he is shot at the end..and we never know WHY!!! Why that MO?? Bloody hell!

This is the 3rd or 4 th author for this genre, that is guilty of ripping me off!! Not happy!, not happy at all!

The heroine started seeing the ghost of a cop who was accused of being a serial killer 12 years ago. But now new victims are killed with the same MO. So is it a copycat or is the ghost's claim of innocence the truth? She needs to find the truth especially since she bears an uncanny resemblance to the other victims.

Another good suspense, this time based in Orlando, around Halloween to provide just that added touch of costume weirdness.

Personal Response: My response to this book is that it was pretty good. It had some confusing points, but overall it was okay. I am reading some of her other books that she has written.

Plot Summary: This girl named Christina has the ability to see ghosts, and she has been able to talk to them for her whole life. There was a recent killing, and the police said that it was a copycat killer to the horrific events of a killing that had happened twelve years earlier. When Christina moves into her grandmother's old home she finds an old ouija board. Her close family members and the friends that she had over to help her move her stuff ask if they can use the board. She reluctantly tells them yes, and they all sit down to begin. As they are using it, Christina feels that there is a ghost there in the room with them. Except that she is the only one that can see it. The ghost is the kid who was murdered in the killing from twelve years ago and he wants her to bring justice to the case and find the real killer.

Recommendation: My recommendation for this book is that it could be for both boys and girls. I probably would not have younger kids read this because there is a lot of swearing and some inappropriate sort of content. If they choose to read this book they should also read some of her other books as well.

currently debating whether I should give it a 1 or a 1.5......

I guessed who the killer was from the very beginning, and most of the book felt like it was just dragging...
Christina was really frustrating as a main character, perfectly knowing she is the picture-perfect victim for a serial killer and just going around town alone ????? at night ????? girly had a death wish, I almost wanted her to be an actual victim...
and don't get me started on Jed... that man deadass thought at one point: "I'm so annoyed with Christina rn I could slap her" ????? I mean, me too, but that doesn't make it okay

oh and also, not getting the motive of the serial killer pissed me off, like wdym he has been killing a very specific type of person for over 12 years, and we don't get to know why ???

As a child, Christina Hardy saw her grandfather’s ghost. Now, as an adult, she can see and hear a dead cop who, twelve years ago, was accused of being a serial killer. She’s convinced he’s innocent and thus the reason for his restless spirit. He can’t move on until this injustice is corrected. Jed Braden, former cop and now a PI, has written a successful novel based on the serial killer but now he’s also convinced of his innocence and is anxious to set the record straight. But as far as his being a ghost, well, Jed’s skeptical to say the least.

This novel can be classified as a paranormal romance/thriller/mystery I suppose. Mostly, it’s a serial killer thriller story with added elements of the paranormal and romance. I’ve never read a Heather Graham novel before and had my doubts going into this one. But despite my not being in the target audience for paranormal romance novels, I actually enjoyed this book quite a bit. She is certainly a prolific author but also an accomplished speaker and is in much demand as a panelist at various book conventions. Based on just this one novel, it's easy to see why.

This novel is part of the “Harrison Investigation” series. This is a group of paranormal investigators who put in an appearance in the second half of this novel but, to me, seemed extraneous to the main plot line. They do assist in the investigation as to whodunnit but that major effort rests firmly with the two protagonists. As far as the serial killer mystery goes, I was incorrect in my solution. Looking back, I can see how the author skillfully led me to my conclusion and then sprung the real thing on me. Excellent job on that.

Glad I took a chance on this.

The Seance (Heather Graham)
Paranormal/Suspense Christina Hardy just moved into her grandmothers house after her passing. Her friends decide she needs a housewarming party. At this party they decide to have a seance, dragging out an aged Ouija board.

They summon up the spirit of Beau Kidd, the lead detective on a murder case over a decade old. Beau was found at the scene of the crime, near the victim and shot dead by his partner. some say his spirit never rested. Beau's sister Katherine, then a child never believed he was guilty. She is determined to prove her brothers innocence.

Christine, who is in doubt of her ability to make contact with the dead, soon starts to see Beau. Not sure if this is real or a dream, she starts to believe Beau is innocent.

Page turning suspense, with humor, romance, and paranormal activity, I found this to be a fun read.

The Seance was one of those books that I just could not put down! Addictive, fast-paced, thrilling, and thoroughly fun, it had everything I wanted to read - mystery/suspense, romance, paranormal - and reminded me of R.L. Stine for adults. Of course it's not 'serious' fiction, who wants that when picking up a book that looks like this? It's fun brain candy, plain and simple, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I haven't had an easy time finding books to read because my concentration level has taken a nosedive, but this book had me hooked from the back synopsis - and kept me hooked throughout. Yes, there are some editing issues, coincidences, red-heads seem to be the main populace, redundancies (e.g. victims are attractive red-heads, beautiful red-heads, gorgeous red-heads, and did I mention Christina's a beautiful, attractive, gorgeous red-head also? Argh, it was annoying! I got it the first time; I don't need it repeated ten million times.), and I figured out who was behind everything in the first-seventh of the book, which could have used more of an explanation for the why at the end, but my problems are eclipsed by the engaging plot.

After Christina called Gen, I wondered if there was a previous book with her, Thor, and Adam, and there is called The Vision, and I've already ordered it from the library - I can't wait to read it! I'm thinking Heather Graham's romantic suspense novels might just be the key that'll keep me reading all the way to the end of a book. :) So, overall, I liked the characters, the story was great, and even though it isn't even close to Hallowe'en, I would still recommend it for a thrilling good read.

Picture this:
A book where the main character has to communicate with the ghost of the murderer.
Sound great right? Full of promise.

All you'll get out of this book is the main two characters constantly asking eachother "Are you okay?" and occasionaly making out in the hallway.
description

This book would be two stars if didn't show such potential, I loved the concept and the main character... for the first thirty pages.
I even liked the plot twist at the end.

Unfortunately, nothing ever came out of this as the main characters became two flat pieces of paper falling in love. The story slowly gets sidetracked by the these lovebirds attending festivals and having witty conversations about commercial jingles. The ghost contributes nothing to the story at all. And having a book that gets so close and then falls so flat on it's face is worse then just a subpar book.
If Sir Arther Conan Doyle or Agatha Cristie had written this book, i'm sure it's would be a four or five star book. But seeing as Mrs Heather Graham wrote this waste of ink and paper, I'm going to leave this with one star.

This is my first Heather Graham novel, and I wish I could say I was more impressed. The book was boring, quite frankly, and predictable and, at times, awfully annoying. How many times can the characters ask each other "are you all right?" or "are you okay?" Seemed to happen every other page. Enough already!

The mystery is standard fare, with the characters hanging around and not doing much to solve it, except for one, and at the end, they essentially luck into identifying the murderer by hypnosis.

The ghost gives this is a horror sheen, but it's really just a light little mystery that isn't very mysterious, with a romance that has more sex than actual romance. Bleh. I'm glad I didn't spend any money on it and can take it back to the library.

SO BAD. SO FREAKING TERRIBLE, I have no idea how this got above a 4-star rating. Despite the book being called The SEANCE there was literally only one chapter in the entire 377 pg book about a seance happening. The author awkwardly used the word “sexy” or “sexual” way too much, and the descriptions of how every female in the story was beautiful was cringy as hell (because you know, only pretty girls get killed). The characters were terrible and annoying as hell - Jed was unbearable and came across as a psychotic, over-bearing and jealous stalker bf and Christina was just fucking dumb. Honestly the only redeeming character was the dog.

Another disappointing Heather Graham. The characters are awful, constantly overacting and acting ridiculous. The main romance came out of nowhere, even though it was I knew from the back of the book who was going to get together. None of the emotions were believable, everything was told, not shown, nothing was logical, even considering the fact that we were dealing with ghosts. I won't read any more of her books.

I thought this book was entertaining but it was predictable. A nice little twist at the end. One thing that bothered me was the editing, which was poor. However, it was a nice, quick, entertaining read. I'd recommend this to those who like your typical horror/thriller without delving too much into the story.

Recommendation: A neat blend of history and paranormal folded with romance and murder is what we see with this plot

The Séance is the fifth book in the Harrison Investigation Series by the paranormal author Heather Graham published in October of 2007. The primary plot revolves around Christina Hardy - who had inherited her grandparents' home in Florida - and Jedidiah "Jed" Braden - a cop turned best-selling author turned PI.

Long before her Krewe of Hunters series (My review of the books I have read in that series so far are here (https://inspirethoughts.livejournal.c...)), she had her Harrison Investigation Series headed by Adam Harrison. She credits him for starting the FBI special division called the Krewe of Hunters. While I was reading those books I was curious to read about Adam Harrison and books that came under his series. And so the book review continue in this series.

Christina Hardy had the sight since she was a child, but her parents and grandmother had refrained for her to use that side of ability and eventually she forgot about it. But, not has a ghost living in her house urging her to help her. Only she thinks that she is crazy.

Jed Braden, cop turned PI, is on a new case while reeling from the success of his latest book. And that case has somehow Christina in the center. While he is evaluating and investigation he is slowly but fast falling for her.

Jed had been her forever crush and now that she was having real feelings for him, Christina is worried he might consider her crazy. Yet she has no one else to turn to but to him when the peril comes closer to her. What will their fate be is the rest of the plot.

Heather has a slew of characters supporting the plot that in no way weigh it down to tears, but instead form strong pillars. They are tightly knit and fit like the pieces of a puzzle perfectly.

The plot is simple and straightforward set in Orlando, FL with sleek lines all around. Obviously a paranormal plot, so we definitely would see ghosts and the paranormal investigators from Adam Harrison's team. And this time around we see Genevieve Wallace and Thor Thomson - whom we had met in the fourth book, The Vision (https://inspirethoughts.livejournal.c...) - and Adam Harrison himself.

Heather connects Gen and Thor to Christina and Jed in the plot. But one thing I felt that the paranormal investigators had really a small part in the plot than compared to other books. I wished they could have been more helpful to the lead characters.

With so many characters, there would be repeat paraphrasing of having to explain a particular scene to the remaining characters. However, it was lesser compared to some of her other books I read. She tied up all the inconsequential details in neatly towards the end of the plot as usual.

This time around there is less of the historical part but more of the paranormal side with a blend of murder and mayhem. Sadly to say I could guess who the killer was at the beginning of Chapter 11. Yet, it was interesting to read and see how Heather comes into the same conclusion.

Barring the fact that I could guess the killer, it is a tight paranormal plot involving romance and murder. Like always Heather Graham makes it chiller without making it gorier and at the same time makes it softly erotic with the undertones of sexual tension between the two lead characters.

On a side note, this time around the hard-card inserts are missing which readers could use to buy books.

Another intriguing plot that would lead to a plethora of books in this series and entertaining the reader every step of the way.

Spoiler Alerts:

1. Plot Reveals:
a. Heather has her character Christina write a jingle for Sanina's chips. The chip name sounds very close to Sanitas.

2. Sub-Plots:
a. Another one of Adam Harrison's team is introduced in conversations - John, in the first book Hanuted. Will he become a main character in a future book is something we have to wait and see.
b. In Haunted, Adam Harrison mentions that the case in London is complex and would be solved another time, hence he has come to Stoneyville to aid Darcy Tremayne. I wonder if Heather Graham would make this little tidbit into a plot for a future book in this series or the Krewe of Hunters series.
c. In Hanuted, Randy Newton, an FBI agent and friend of Matt's, is introduced in the plot as a contact and friend of Matt from a serial killer case that they had worked together on the outskirts of D.C. I wonder if he was a main character in a previous book that of Heather Graham's that I hadnt read yet.
d. In The Vision, Heather Graham has one of her characters, Jack, mention about a guy killing prostitutes around Eighth Street in Miami. I don’t remember any of Heather Graham's so far read plots that has this certain plot. Perhaps it is from one of the books I didn’t read or maybe it was just an off-hand instead mentioned for the sake of the plot.

3. Grammatical / Historical / Location / Character Errors:
a. On Pg. 56, line 4, it should be "Granda, after her…"
b. On Pg. 131, line 8, it should be "…go out and buy a…"
c. On Pg. 166, line 10, it should be "…It might do some good."
d. On Pg. 193, line 14, it should be "…and the new locks - will"

3.5 stars. I haven't read Heather Graham before or any books in this series (the book itself didn't mention it was in a series). Overall it was a good read, with some issues. I'm not a huge fan of including ghosts, in part because I think it gives people a really unfortunate fear of dead people, but if you're on board with the ghosts part then it's a good read. I found it hard to stop and finished it in only two days 😅 The ghost was my favourite character.

There were some sexism microaggressions that I didn't like, including an overprotective/patronizing/controlling male romantic lead who isn't problematized for that behaviour because he's oh so attractive. There were also some unbelievable points, logistical issues, and plot holes

Overall, an engaging read that has some issues if you think about it too much but has a great mystery and a kind ghost character to keep you reading.

In this suspenseful paranormal thriller, a serial killer believed to be long gone resurfaces after twelve years, reopening wounds in a town that never fully healed. Christina, a 25-year-old jingle writer haunted—literally—by the ghost of a slain police officer once accused of the original murders, returns to live in her grandparents’ old home after their deaths. Her uneasy peace is shattered when the killings begin again, and suddenly everyone in her close circle becomes a suspect.

Christina’s growing connection with Jed, a former cop who famously fictionalized the earlier case in his bestselling novel, adds both tension and tenderness as the investigation deepens. Desperate for answers, she reaches out to an old friend from another Harrison Investigations story, pulling in supernatural expertise as the danger escalates.

The truth hits shockingly close to home when the killer duo is revealed to be rooted within her own circle of friends and family. In a dramatic finale, the ghost of the disgraced officer takes justice into his own hands, delivering a chilling—and satisfying—conclusion that ties together past and present in classic Graham fashion.

As a little girl Christy saw her grandfather’s ghost after he died, but her mother convinced her it was not true, and when her grandmother told her seeing the dead was dangerous, she managed to close that window in her head, and started to believe it was only a dream …
But now her parents and her grandmother are dead as well, and she has inherited her grandparents house. As Christina works from home, she is a composer of catchy advertising jingles, she has decided not to sell the beloved house of her childhood, but to move into it. Even though it is worth a fortune in the current market.

Her best friend Ana lives close by, and she is ecstatic that Christy has come back home. She even talked her into having a housewarming party even though the house is still filled with boxes. But there will only be a few people at the party, Christy’s two cousins, who are her only living relatives left, Dan and Mike, her new neighbours and Ana and perhaps Ana’s cousin Jed. And the guy Christy had a huge crush on back then. Of course he never noticed her other than as Ana’s little friend.

The bad news of the day, is that a woman has been found murdered near the interstate. Is the Interstate killer back, or is this a copycat at work? The case was closed 12 years ago, when the main suspect, one of the investigating cops himself, was shot over the corpse of the last victim. As Beau Kidd was dead, there was no court case at all; he was condemned by public opinion alone and circumstantial evidence. And his family with him.

When Ana spots Christy’s old Ouija board in one of the boxes in the living room, she is determined to have a séance, ask the ghosts something. But when they really do get an answer, they are totally spooked when it tells them he is Beau Kidd … And that is when Jed arrives …

Jed quit the police force many years ago, he is now a private investigator slash author, he even wrote a fiction book about the Interstate Killer, never mentioning names, but he was convinced that Beau was the killer. But now, witnessing the autopsy with his former partner, he is not so sure anymore they “got” the killer back then. So he is not in the best of moods when he finally gets to Christy’s house. And when he hears a scream inside, and finds out they were playing with the Ouija Board, he is not smiling. He really does not believe in anything to do with ghosts or the supernatural. There is always a logical explanation.

When they all finally leave, after warning Christy again to be careful, as she matches the killer’s ideal victim perfectly, she suddenly feels no longer safe in her own home. And when a stranger appears at the foot of her bed in the middle of the night, she completely freaks out and flees the night. It can’t be happening, Beau Kidd cannot be really haunting her!

But apparently they made a connection 12 years ago, when a little girl shared a flower from her beloved grandfather’s coffin with the other small grieving family nearby, at which happened to be Beau Kidd’s funeral. And now, Beau needs help in clearing his name, and keeping his little sister safe. She also fits the murderer’s victim profile …

It takes a while for Christy to stop fainting when she sees Beau, she even adopts a cute little dog named Killer for her own protection. And when she sees Killer happily interacting with the ghost, she knows she is not going crazy after all. Her best friend Guinevieve had a scary adventure a few weeks ago as well, and she hooks Christy up with Adam Harrison, to help her communicate with Beau and find out more.

Jed is very protective of Christy, and they become lovers, and he is not happy with the presence of Adam and the others in Christy’s house. He quickly finds out that Adam is the real deal, but he still does not believe in ghosts and refuses to believe Christy when she tells him things Beau has revealed to her.

But who will find the killer first, the police, the FBI, or Christy? The killer does not take it easy either, more victims are being found.

Another great book in an amazing series. I loved it, but now I am reading them close together, the heroes are a bit all the same. Denying there are ghosts, refusing to believe the heroine and still wanting to protect her and of course sleep with her. Distrusting Adam and his motives even when told by the “powers that be” that he is genuine. I am getting a bit fed up with this type of hero, the unbeliever who knows better.
Still, I enjoyed the story very much, and of course Christy. Christy is a strong woman, she has lost so many loved ones already, but she does not give up on living. She is good at her job, and finds joy in her music. At first she really does not believe in ghosts either, but the memories slowly resurface, and she just knows when someone has been in her house, messing with her things. But who has ever heard of a ghost making her coffee?

I liked the cast of secondary characters a lot as well. Jed and Ana, Mike and Daniel, Jed’s old partner who keeps him fully up to date in the police investigation. And Beau’s younger sister who hires Jed to find out who the real killer is and clear her brother’s name.
They live in Orlando, in a city with lots of theme parks, which means many people work in the entertainment industry, and so do Christy’s two cousins. One is a screenwriter, the other an actor. It makes for a nice background for the story, as “the gang” visits the various entertainments.

Again Heather Graham manages to make me very suspicious of one of the people close to Christy, but the truth was much more creepy and evil. I really never suspected that.

So, a great story, a ghost to love, a sweet little doggy named Killer, great characters, a mystery and a love story. What more do I need in my books? I highly recommend this author if you like your romantic suspense with a serving of ghosts.

9 stars.

There was very little that I liked about this book. That said, I did like the ghost and the fact that he often spoke with Christina. I thought this was good. It was a bit silly that Christina kept asking the ghost to leave the room. As if ghosts can be told what to do. But the rest of the book was simply silly. I did finish reading the book, but it was a struggle. The love story was dull, boring and unimaginable. I had figured out who the killer was early in the story. I kept hoping I was wrong, but sadly I was not. What did this book need? Maybe more than one Séance. Or perhaps having the ghost do more ‘ghostly’ things. Or maybe if the story was never written. All would have been an improvement.

As you all probably know Heather Graham is my favorite author. I find her novels are easy to read and makes you feel like you could actually be right there where the scenes take place. if you like romance this has it. if you like murder and mystery this has it. if you like to read about spiritism then this has it. young red head woman are being murdered. and a young police man was shot by his fellow partner thinking he was the murderer. Then a group play on a spiritism board and opens the door to a spirit. that says he didn't do it. every one says he did. did he?

Loved this installment of Harrison Investigations series! Beau Kidd just grabs me from the beginning. When he first shows up asking Christina to help him and you find out he has been making her coffee! I love the relationship between the characters and i absolutely love Killer, the shelter dog Christina adopts to protect her. I strongly recommend if you like supernatural, mystery, romance, and a serial killer! This book has it all.

An early 'Harrison' book that I found in the 'lending library' of the resort I was at for the week. I just LOVE that when it happens. A young lady inherits her Grandmother's house in central Florida and connects with her friends she met when visiting as a child. She has the 'gift' to see the dead but has buried it since her parents led her to believe it was dangerous. OF COURSE, a ghost contacts her to solve his mystery. SO MUCH FUN. Now I want to see if I can find others!

This is a great book. I wasn't even reading it in a series kinda way so its one of those books that is great by itself and great within a series too. I never saw the ending coming, that is probably the best thing of all. This book kept me spinning around in circles and jumping at every little thing, there was no putting it down.

this is the first Heather Graham book I have read and was pretty happy with it. The back cover left me questioning whether it would be a little lame but it really was much better than anticipated. My only "notes" would be that just because there is a ghost and a séance does not make it a Horror book. I believe it would be more suitably classified as a murder mystery or General Fiction.
